First off, The Storyteller doesn't know Erudessa's current address so he can't write to her either way.
Secondly, The Storyteller can talk to Erudessa through his ring and Erudessa is capable of replying through visions and what have you, rendering letters pretty much redundant.
Finally, I didn't even mean to add that 1st sentence into the quote. I was talking about the 2nd sentence.
