As soon as Skyra woke up to start the day, she immediately regretted it when she remembered what kind of day it was supposed to be today.
“Oh greeeat… This is going to be a wonderful day…”, she exclaimed sarcastically, still with a slightly sleepy voice. She had been a bit lazy in putting on her pyjamas last night and such she had opted for a simple sports bra, with almost no support, since there was not much that could be supported, and boyshorts combo.
Skyra pulled the covers off her body, but did not get up. Instead she simply breathed in and out steadily. She had, basically, all the time in the world, as she didn’t plan on showing her face too much around all the parents in the school. Too many bad memories to handle right now.
Soon a smell would hit Skyra’s nose, a delicious smell: breakfast. Yue had awoken just a few minutes before Skyra and already she was dressed in her maid uniform and making breakfast. Unlike before, this breakfast was simpler: just toast and eggs. There was still some jam to spread if anyone wanted it, and Yue still had some freshly squeezed orange juice too. Over the crackling sound of the hotplate frying the eggs Yue heard Skyra shift in her sleep.
”Good morning Skyra. Do you want to get breakfast, or would you be having breakfast in bed?”Skyra turned to her side to look at Yue.
“Breakfast? In bed? What luxury…” She rolled her eyes.
“I’m not that lazy…” She got up and moved her legs out of the bed. With her left hand, she went through her hair and, as some kind of morning ritual, she gently rubbed her ears. For some reason, she enjoyed the feeling of somebody, even if it was herself, rubbing them.
Yue placed a plate with toast and eggs on the table for Skyra as she went to clean up the dishes. She had one more saved for Krysanthe when she wakes up. At the risk of inciting Skyra’s anger (Yue had mentally prepared herself all night in case of another outburst), Yue decided to ask the big question.
”Do you have any plans for today, Skyra?”“Today?”, she looked up.
“Nah. I’m probably just gonna hang out in this room for a while… maybe go to the gym. Probably go to the gym… definitely go to the gym.” Skyra stretched her arms and bend her whole body to the left before bending it to the right. Then she picked up one of the eggs, poured some salt on it and bit it in half.
Yue nodded her head as she put the dishes away in the shelf.
”Aren’t you going to take part of today’s events? I think I saw Sepia meet with her family earlier today.” This was the part that Yue knew may make or break this relationship. It was obvious from Skyra’s scars that her family, assuming she had one, was rough. If she’s like many faunas Yue knew Skyra either grew up an orphan or had only one parent who slaved away to make ends meet for the both of them. Becoming a hunter was simply a choice between fighting for her life or dying.
”Though I hear there’s a foot race taking place at the gym. I hear there’s an amazing prize for whoever gets first place.” Yue herself didn’t intend to take part of the race, but she secretly wanted in on the wrestling tournament. It was a guilty pleasure she had developed on her way to Vale; her parents never let her watch television before and one of the first shows she watched was a wrestling match. She was aware that the entire fight was staged, but like a martial arts movie that didn’t make the performances any less skilled. You can’t fake falling ten feet on your head.
Skyra shrugged.
“I really don’t care about all that stuff. Just fluff to make those, whose parents didn’t come or even aren’t alive anymore, better.” She shook her head and scratched her bared stomach. A large scar drew from her hip straight to her navel and back down to her hip again, just a bit higher than on the other side. In all honesty, all the scars she bore actually fit her very well and luckily, none disfigured her at all.
“I just want to get this day over with and return to, more or less, normalcy. Lessons and stuff.”She had finished her breakfast and stretched her arms out again while leaning backwards in the bliss of a good breakfast.
“I am still going to visit the gym. I’m not gonna let some stupid event ruin my workout session.” Skyra smirked impishly.
As Yue finished her dishes she thought carefully about how to proceed. Skyra was making it pretty obvious that she had no interest in family activities. Yue couldn’t blame her; it’d be very uncomfortable to see parents and siblings cheering on other students when you’re a lone child or worse, an orphan. Still… It would be nice if Yue didn’t have to go alone either.
”I… I see. Well, I… Hope you have a good day.” Yue’s face grew bright red at how lame her response was. She was suppose to be a dignified maid and she was at a loss for words. Clearly she still had a lot of training to do. As she tried to regain her composure Yue finished cleaning up the kitchen and went to her dresser. It didn’t have anything but a bunch of maid outfits, but with some time she was certain she could make a costume to wrestle in. Once she picked out the choice outfits Yue went to leave the dorm.
”I’ll be out for a bit. If you want anything don’t be afraid to call me. Oh, and wake up Krysthane too, I wouldn’t want her breakfast to get cold.” “Riiight, yes, mom.” , Skyra snarked back, but she did comply. She certainly did not want their possible new member to feel alienated and all that. But before she woke up her team leader, she quickly showered and put on her gym clothes. When Krys was still not awake, Skyra groaned a little and walked over to her bed and blew air in her face.
“Wakey wakey, leader-san!” Even if what she said was cheerful, she did not pronounce it in a cheerful way, but rather quite deadpan.
“Get some breakfast before it’s cold. I gotta go have my morning workout. If you don’t wake up, I have to kiss you…” , she threatened, not that it was something terrible for her personally, but probably for Krys. Probably. Skyra wasn’t exactly sure if Krys did like girls like she did. Whatever, it’s gotta work, right?
