No worries. Knew he wouldn't fly. Is there any point where you'll stop accepting characters?

@ACHTUNG

Yeah, what Vita was saying. Are they going to store the ships inside them or something?

Okay then. That'll give me time to think of a secondary character.

They're perfectly fine with their ship bodies being far away from their human mental model so really could put the ships in any place which is convenient... For obvious reasons just living them in a suitably large body of water is ideal... Though in a pinch, underwater, dry land, or even in orbit would suffice...

@ACHTUNG

Okay, okay...

1) Since the ship will usually be somewhere out of reach, what can the mental model do in combat?

2) Having a giant-ass ship equipped with alien tech sitting around will not go unnoticed by the worlds this RP will be visiting. The damage control will be immense. The Entertainer would feel that the cons outweigh the pros.

So in conclusion, if you really want to use ship girls then why not Kantai Collection girls?

  • For no.1 There's only been one proper engagement in the manga that involved mental models... Essentially expect barrier based combat and local gravity shift shenanigans... However the ship/character is still able to utilize the equipment present on their ship body... So for example the ship body might be out on the harbor and situation dictates the need for offshore bombardment support on the Mental Model's position then that's perfectly within their capabilities...
  • For no.2 That's the part that you solve by hiding the ships... Because if anything the 80 or so chapters of the manga has shown, is that the FOG vessels are extremely good at hiding, submarine or not...
  • And as for the last part... I'm just not entirely sure how the things in Kancolle work in general I mean paper talismans turning into miniature warplanes complete with pilots, I'd chuck that one as magic but I don't know if it is canonically actually magic... Yes I should be able to roleplay them fine since I have made fanfics for it but what I'm worried about is that I might portray how things work in a completely inaccurate manner...
If you're fine with it being slightly AU then yes Kancolle is a second choice...

And now, the Morton's Fork.

Either you use the ship's armaments in battle which will not go unnoticed and from there you can:
A) Come forward and face the consequences.
B) Hide and let the countries point fingers at each other, most likely leading to war.

OR

Just use purely mental models for the entire RP.

  • And as for the last part... I'm just not entirely sure how the things in Kancolle work in general I mean paper talismans turning into miniature warplanes complete with pilots, I'd chuck that one as magic but I don't know if it is canonically actually magic... KanColle's mechanics are vague and thus flexible. You are free to explain a character's signature powers however you like.

Indeed a Morton's Fork... The people in select serieses/universes who would take notice of an Artificial intelligence, reconfigurable warship armed with graviton and photon weapons and composed of nanomaterials would also very likely also take notice of a girl that can induce localized gravitational anomalies and project barriers impervious to conventional weaponry and also made out of nanomaterials...

Though at least they eat normal food...

Instead of munching on mortar shells, aluminum ore and washing it down with black gold... Oh and then eating normal food...

Yes they would but small-scale superheroics can be overlooked every now and then, especially in such worlds, while entire areas being suddenly vaporized, especially urban areas and infrastructure, is a threat to national security.

And that there is why I would preferably have the ship body included... Deterrence, It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it...

While that's going on I've decided that the backup plan of Kancolle, should I use characters from said universe I would opt for original ship girls or at least ship girl forms of vessels in WWII which have yet to appear in the kancolle franchise to give me a bit more leeway in explaining how things work... Though of course this would mean I'd have no picture of said ship girls and such will go against your prediction of such part always being a picture... Could always go the VitaVita route and draw em myself... But that would mean going through the horrors of actually drawing...

You can just say 'Her arrows turn into miniature bombers after being launched from her bow', you know? No in-depth explanation needed.

But maybe you're having trouble with the personalities in which case, whatever floats your boat dude. (I'm sorry)

I like your ardent defense to use Arpeggio characters.

Make that sheet and let's see where this rabbit hole goes.

  • Appearance:

    • Upper left lady
  • Name:
    • Haruna
  • Sex:
    • Female
  • Franchise:
    • Aoki hagane no Arpeggio
  • Special Abilities/Powers:
    • At the core of each FoG vessel is... well a core, that contains all the processing and communicating systems, memory as well as multiple plugins including that of personality and emotions. With every core is almost always accompanied by a culture of nanomaterials directly under the control of the core, which can change their properties to that of any other material and thus they can be used to assemble the various things a fog vessel might need, first and foremost is their ship body and mental models... Almost every weapon and tool a Fog vessel employs are also made up of nanomaterials and thus they can reconfigure a piece of hardware into something else should the need arise...
    • The next important aspect of a fog vessel is the wave force armor which essentially stores the energy of anything meaning to damage the fog vessel instead of allowing the energy to do harm... This energy is then stored to be released at a later time or be used to power certain system components... It's important to note that if the stored energy saturates the dimensional fold integral to the system then it cannot absorb the energy of any other attack until it releases the stored energy... This armor can be projected by the fog vessel's ship body and her mental model and also serve as utilitarian tools as panes of f the armour can be brought into existence to serve any number of uses, including personal shields and stepping platforms...
    • The third aspect is that of their extensive use of gravitic control via their graviton systems. Effects can range from small disturbances in latent gravity all the way to sea splitting Moses style rift on the ocean...
  • Equipment:
    • Technically she doesn't have any because all of tools and weapons she uses is part of the nanomaterial culture her core controls...
  • History:
    • A fast battleship of the fleet of fog which has experienced much in the way of human interaction with a design child called Osakabe Makie. These interactions eventually lead to them developing a close friendship with one another. Among other things she has lost her ship body in a battle with I-401 and have also engaged in combat with the Japanese ground forces, nearly letting her own emotions take a hold of her. Afterwards follows an adventure with Makie, Kirishima and to a lesser extent, Maya since only Maya still has a ship body to put to sea among the three fog vessels. They eventually end up meeting with Japanese officials following tumultuous happenings behind the scenes of both humans and fog...
  • Personality:
    • "Curious, analytical, calm and predisposed to communicating with people" Describes Haruna pretty well.
    • She is among the most human like of all the Fog vessels with mental models due to her extended contact with humans.

  • Appearance:
    • She's the lady on the lower right of the image above...
  • Name:
    • Kirishima
  • Sex:
    • Female
  • Franchise:
    • Aoki hagane no Arpeggio

  • History:
    • She assaulted Yokosuka with Haruna and was also sunk in the process, suffering the worse of it since she basically lost all her nanomaterials and were reduced to her core. Though this was allievated a bit when Haruna lent her some nanomaterials for her to form a makeshift body, a teddy bear named Youtarou. Aside from a few differences owing to her being a teddy bear, her history is intrinsically linked with that of Haruna and Makie...
  • Personality:
    • "aggressive, loud, cynical and impatient" Describes Kirishima which looking back at her sister, is almost nearly the polar opposite...
    • She does display human like characteristics, although that's a bit more questionable since she has spent bout ninety-five percent of the franchise as a teddy bear...

VITA IS MY SENPAI!

EDIT:

I might actually just throw in Makie in there as well...

I'm not updated with the series but aren't their ships destroyed? Only their cores will be taken then if that's the case.

As of the moment, yes their ship bodies are still unaccounted for but as of the chapter 76 and up It is confirmed that FOG vessels can rebuild their bodies since Takao (which was sunk) very recently just got a new ship body as a present from I-402... Incidentally Takao is using it to keep Haruna's "flotilla" on edge, Essentially just Maya commanded by Makie...

Would actually make for a good mid season upgrade...

... I'm kind of stuck now.

I know what I'm doing with Rem(waiting on @PKMNB0Y to free up Goldibanne) more or less but if I'd know that the fantasy one was a stealth mission I never would have sent Youmu there.

@VitaVitaAR

Well, it's not stealth-stealth. It's more like "Don't catch the entire country's attention about who you are and your motives."

Also, Youmu blends right into that world so she should be fine unleashing some of her more potent abilities.
