Alright, so now that there's a solid number of players and characters, I feel like now is a good time for everyone to start discussing their character relationships. Some people have already started doing this, but I encourage everyone to do it. Look at everyone else's character profiles, try to decide which characters you think could have an interesting relationship with yours, and talk to that player about some of your ideas. You can talk on the OOC or in PMs, it doesn't matter where. And I'm not just looking for positive relationships, but negative ones as well (negative relationships are probably more important in fact, since without conflict there's no story after all)

Also, I should probably talk about when I plan to start the RP. I want to wait at least one more day, since there are still some people I'm expecting characters for that haven't posted yet. I'm also noticing that there aren't really that many staff characters, and having enough staff characters is pretty important, so I'm hoping we'll get some more of them before I decide to start

So, don't mean to undermine the GM's authority or anything but doesn't the kinetic energy control basically render melee characters almost completely useless and ranged characters only slightly less so? He can, on touch, instantly and forcibly repel any large object or even people, meaning he can instantly blast away melee attackers on contact and readily weaponize things as hefty as a car. He's also essentially got a built-in gun power with smaller objects ("near-bullet velocities") and can null projectile attacks. And that's not even getting into his future powers that are presented as instant destruction for an object.

Offset by his total lack of brainpower. Were he some sort of genius it may be problematic, but as it stands, it takes a bit of concentration to actually pull anything off. It's not exactly something he can do on a moment's notice. I'd say it's also reasonable for his strength to be limited by his own physical and mental endurance - so chucking a car, while possible, is a one-time thing and he's completely spent.

As such, rapid successive strikes are the way to go with him. Anything moving fast will also take him down a notch easily, as will close range detonation of projectiles that don't actually touch him before exploding. I'd say that a lot of the characters in the RP can kick his ass fairly easily at the moment.

I can go ahead and edit the CS to reflect his endurance and planning requirements if that'd help.

Sure that sounds nice and all but it's just not at all a given in the way the character's powers are explained. You say he touches a person or car, these are the baseline examples, to launch them in whatever direction he pleases. Touch and launch. Same with Collapse and Rip, touch and break, and it really seems like he could readily pull people apart. You know, going by your own example of trying to launch someone's arm, since that limitation won't apply to those powers. Also he doesn't exactly need any brainpower to touch person and launch them or realize "I can throw things good to hurt people", especially since you say his aim with the gun-power is surprisingly good.

I'll give it a few more tweaks to get it a bit more consistency, then. For the most part I'm aiming for a healthy balance against other characters who can happily blast boulders to pieces without much thought, honestly. Preparation is pretty much necessary for anything he does, so I'll do some further editing to reflect that and possibly make a few modifications to the later tricks up his sleeve, provided I can think of a suitable alternative.

Note: Common sense applies. Every edit I'm making here increases the length of the CS and makes it flow less well despite not actually adding anything that shouldn't have already been implicitly understood. I will happily clarify the language further if necessary, but it won't realistically change the outcome of the character.

As written, it just feels like a really simple way for a character to null most anyone that has to be within touch range by blasting them into the horizon while also having a solid couple of options at range. Really it's the general idea that he can essentially completely shut down any attempt at melee by touch while having all the other uses to boot that I feel is the most troublesome, because everything else is fine and fun and can be played with and/or around, "touch to ringout", not so much. You can say what you want about common sense, length and flow but part of the reason CSes are there is to define what characters can and cannot do.

Would you be happy if I were to write it up as condensing work/effort into a slightly inefficient, instantaneous application of force that requires pre-planned intent? Something to the tune of being able to move objects almost as effectively as he would realistically be able to move them under his own natural strength - output in joules of the natural body converted to instantaneous output in joules on the object in contact.

I'm getting the feeling that you're assuming that this sort of thing can be taken far, far further than it would be possible in the IC reality.

So, just gonna shove my interest in this (spoke with the gm over pms in regards to a character idea), as I'm sort of leaning between to be or not to be on jumping in, especially since I'm coming in with two charys.

Gonna jump in on this little discussion; secondly, @Zero Hex, there are other ways this can be countered. For example, what if someone had a sword, came at him, and at the last second they feinted and destroyed him? He said that this is all offset by his total lack of brainpower which could lead him to being duped in a match. Plus, what about things that can fly at him fast? What if he has his back turn? What if he's holding onto something and can't counter? Arm's are broken? Moves his hands, they get burnt by some other force?

@Hammerman As we said, I think Freyja would be a good mentor for Ryuuto. Now, seeing as his Now seeing as his biological parents are basically just an abstract entity in his life, how would you feel about Freyja being a somewhat motherly figure for him? Like, someone he can talk to and get better life advice than “Keep getting A’s in everything and we’re cool.”

@tipssyCalibrator Akiko seems to be Ryuuto's opposite in literally every way. I suggest the role of mortal enemies. Haha.

I am chill, just having a civil discussion and presenting my point of view. It wouldn't be godmodding so much as just being generally able to trivialize melee characters on touch and force them out of an engagement combined with all the other great and fun uses of the powerset. I assume no GM would just allow the power to be used in order to, say, instantly collapse a ribcage but it's still kinda written that way and that leaves plenty of room for things to get out of hand.

That's nice and all but uh, it's a touch thing. Like, as written all he had to do was step in and touch someone, without any particular force or effort just touch, and it was an instant Team Rocket for the opponent. Is it invincible? No, not really, but being able to make melee all but a non-issue on touch isn't exactly grand. Especially for the genre. Like, it's on a lesser scale no doubt about it, but this power is part of what lets Oda treat Bartholomew Kuma as a walking plot device in One Piece.

Not particularly, just for it not to read like an instant "not my problem" button for melee that works on touch. Last edit seems pretty good on that end, maybe something about how Channelers aren't affected by full force without extra effort and focus? Sorry about the hassle, especially since it's not really up to me. I just voice my own concerns and opinions. On that note, it's not that I assume things so much that as it was written, which is what anyone has to go for, that's what it seemed like.

All your ideas are great! Now, as a true American, I will take them and almalgate them into a totally original power, and take all the credit for it! Murica!

Honestly, though, I'm trying to fill the Wavecaster niche with both my characters, since they're supposed to be the most common, but look to be ghe least common in terms of PCs. Your ideas are great, though, and it's definitely inspired me to think more!
