  • Character Age: 42
  • Character Gender: F
  • Nationality: European Confederacy
  • Race: Caucasian (Celtic Brythons)
  • Position: Civilian, Theologian
  • Title: Keeper of Traditions

Reference Description:

Background:
Mistress of multiple religions, keeper of lore and mystical traditions, and voice of the people, Aria Summers has had a long-standing involvement in the ever-looming apocalypse. Unlike so many other doomsayers who would give the faith-inclined majority a bad name, Ms. Summers focused not on the coming apocalypse as a sign of judgement, but instead as the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Her life's work came to a head as her message of peace and acceptance was tested against the criticality of mass extinction.

As a result she was quite surprised when she was extended an offer to join the Arks program on the Vitae, as she had quite assumed that preserving active faith was an after thought to the scientific lot involved in its creation. As a local leader with strong ties to the community, and the ability to calm civilians, the offer was a natural one that would also naturally be met with controversy.

Player Name: Heretic

Character Name: Dr. Emilie Marie LaFavre-Stone

Character Age: 31

Character Gender: Female

Profession: OB/GYN

Nationality: Martian

Strengths:

  • Extremely booksmart
  • A problem-solver
  • Empathetic

Weaknesses:

  • Doesn't take criticism well
  • Public speaking
  • Has a history of substance use

Personal Effects: Some clothes, shoes, make-up, etc.; a picture of her family (to include her deceased husband); and a small collection of books based on her specialty, Urogynecology/Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery

Bio: Emilie was born into a small family: Her father, Hunter LaFavre; and her brother 4 years her senior, Derrick LaFavre. Her mother Alicia unfortunately passed away while giving birth to Emilie due to complications beyond control. Such incident is what led Emilie to choose her career path at a relatively young age. Even though Emilie knows that she shouldn't blame herself for her mother's death, she at the very least feels partially responsible for what occurred, but whenever she brings up the topic, both her brother and her father will shut her down instantly to prevent Emilie from going down the ugly path of self-blaming.

Despite the family missing one of the key members in their household, Emilie grew up happily alongside her brother without any major issues. She was a very bright kid from a young age like her father, who was a neurosurgeon and her brother, who was an astronomy professor. Both of them are safely tucked away in cryogenic stasis.

When Emilie was just 15, she met her husband, a guy who'd just turned 17 and was just about ready to head to the service. Emilie and Jason immediately fell in love, and even though they couldn't physically be together after Jason had shipped off to commence his training, the two of them didn't stop writing to each other. Jason eventually became a pilot, and Emilie followed him wherever his military career took him.

After they were both in their mid twenties, the couple started trying to have a baby, but unfortunately, Jason was infertile. The news devastated them, and despite Emilie's growing knowledge of the field, there wasn't really anything she could do. Things only got worse a year later when Jason was killed in action. Upon receiving the news, Emilie had a breakdown, and no one heard from her for days. It was then her drug abuse started, an issue that has been kept at bay for some time but she nonetheless faces struggles every now and then. Being that she had not much else going for her, Emilie decided to dedicate most of her time and energy into her job. It didn't take long for her to start getting noticed in the field, and when they offered her a spot aboard the Vitae, she immediately contacted her father and her brother and accepted the invitation.

Character Name: Lee “Bloody” Reynolds

Character Age: 48

Character Gender: Male

Appearance:

Profession: Chief Inspector

Nationality: Roslin Federation

Strengths:
Experienced – Lee has spent decades in some of the most hostile environments on Earth. His instincts have been honed, and he is incredibly perceptive. He is also able to read people’s basic body language and facial expressions to quickly gauge threats.

Respected – Lee earned his nickname through well-documented acts of brutal violence. While many disagree with his methods, he has proven his ability, and is well-respected.

Born Leader – From his first command, Lee proved himself to be a natural leader, able to inspire his men and motivate them to push themselves beyond what they could hope to achieve alone.

Hardened – Facing merciless criminals has hardened Lee. He can soak up amounts of physical pain that would knock down a lesser man, as well as withstanding any emotional or mental attacks.

Improviser – Fighting on the streets has trained Lee to think on his feet. He is able to quickly adapt to new situations and threat, reacting to them almost before he has registered them.

Weaknesses:
Manipulative – Years of first-hand experience with the many types of human psyche has left Lee with a extensive understanding. He often uses this to exploit other’s weaknesses and create a rise out of them, or to push them into taking an action.

Blunt – Lee is brutally honest. He speaks his mind, no matter what the emotional impact it will cause. This trait has served him well through his service, as people learn that he could be trusted on his word, but he has also left a string of bitter enemies.

Injuries – Multiple bullet wounds and countless bone fractures has left Lee with a string of injuries. While he is often able to push through the pain, Lee is far from being entirely fit. Years of smoking has also attacked his lungs, diminishing his stamina.

Personal Effects:
-Simply wardrobe containing his clothes
-Bookshelf containing an extensive collection of vintage crime novels.
-Wide array of cigars
-His trusted Revolver

Biography: Lee was born in Chicago on the 15th of November in the year 2168. His parents are unknown, as he was abandoned just days after his birth. Brought to a local orphanage, Lee was forced to grow up tough, robbed of his childhood by the brutal life on Chicago’s shadowed streets. From a young age, Lee showed a natural resilience, and a quick mind, and it soon led him to being dragged into the local police station. Chicago was run by multiple criminal syndicates, and the police were both undermanned and underequipped, so when the young teenager was brought into the station for a petty crime, he was not punished, rather offered a badge. Feeling something stir within himself, Lee took the badge. Excelling throughout training, Lee soon proved to be a resourceful and highly capable police officer. Climbing the ranks at record speed, Lee began cracking down on the crime that ran rife throughout Chicago, slowly claiming back the city. It is here that he first began to develop his reputation for being ruthless in the pursuit of justice, as well as earning his nickname “Bloody” for the brutal punishment he dealt out against the scum of the city.

Lee’s talent was soon picked up by the Federation, who fast-tracked him into their Special Branch, where he engaged in the cold war that was raging. The skills bred into him on the harsh streets of Chicago set Lee in good stead as he carried out several successful counter-espionage missions, catching spies implanted across the Federation and exacting bloody justice against them. It was this role that turned him into a renowned detective, as he continued to climb the ranks and gain notoriety amongst his comrades. He continued to excel until the Three Day War.

Following the formation of the United Earth Council, the Federation’s Special Branch was largely disbanded, the cold war effectively over as the three powers came together to face the outside threat. However the Federation deemed Lee to valuable an asset to allow him to return to the Chicago Police Department, so they created his role as Inspector, where he continued to brutally crack down on the most pressing crimes committed within the Federation’s borders. When the second wave was detected, Lee was given clear orders. He was to maintain the peace when Project Genesis was announced. As the Federation had expected, there were mass riots across all of the major cities. At the head of specially trained squads of armed police, Lee led the offensive against the rioters, bringing down the ringleaders with ruthless efficiency and supressing the panicked hordes. When calm was finally restored, Lee was assigned to the Vitae to act as the head of the on-board Investigation Branch, his exemplary record clearly marking him as a valuable crew-member.

Player Name: AtlasRize
Character Name: Echo Olveira
Character Age: 26
Character Gender: Female
Appearance:

She might not be shooting for Queen of the Runway status anytime soon, but appearance has always been important for Echo. Just maybe not the same appearance that others want to cultivate. Echo stands at a tidge over five-eight, and weighs around a hundred and twenty pounds. She's lithe and wiry, and stronger than she looks. The vibrant blue of her ear-length hair matches her eyes, and sets off the light tan-brown skin she got from a myriad of mixed ethnicities in her background. What would otherwise be the harsh lines of her cheeks and nose are softened by her ready smile, warm skin tone, and a scattering of freckles across her nose and cheeks. She's collected a number of tattoos over the years, mostly on her left arm and right side. Her wardrobe consists almost entirely of bright colors and eclectic pieces in a decidedly punk aesthetic. She keeps an image of raw, wild-child rough and tumble at all times, an image that goes with her sometimes raucous personality perfectly.
Profession: Engineer (with a promising side gig as a non-combat pilot)
Nationality: Amani
Strengths: When it comes to mechanical things, Echo is an absolute savant. She intrinsically understands how moving things work and always seems to have the answers as to how to fix them, break them, or just MacGuyver them. It was this genius aptitude for engineering that got her selected for the Vitae more than anything else.

Echo is also a moderately skilled pilot of small to medium craft. Growing up in space is a natural place to learn such things, and with her innate grasp of how the things function and respond, she takes to piloting easily. What she isn't, however, is a trained combat pilot so while she's eager and capable when it comes to piloting things around for all sorts of duties (and indeed enjoys doing so) she won't be engaging in any dog fights anytime soon. Hopefully.

Echo is also a pretty damn good musician if you've got the good taste to enjoy her style.

Weaknesses: Echo, like many spacers, has a streak of anti-authority sentiment that can be hard to get past. Coupled with her fierce independent streak, sometimes touchy temper, and absolute willingness to throw a punch she can sometimes get herself into less than desirable situations.

In a lot of ways Echo tends to be more comfortable around machines than she is people, and she has a bad habit of thinking the worst about those who haven't proven themselves to her. Particularly those from Earth.

Personal Effects: Echo doesn't have a great deal of personal belongings, but what she does have are all very important to her. First off is her personal set of tools. A set of high quality pieces kept in a black satchel-style bag that she keeps with her at almost all times. After all, you never know when something might break. Or someone might need to be hit with a wrench.

Secondly is her guitar. Not overly fancy, but rather rough and powerful, like Echo likes to imagine herself as being. She keeps it in tip top working condition, regardless of what the outside might look like, and she likes to play.

The pictures. An absolute ton of pictures that Echo has scattered around her quarters, stuck on up on walls mostly without virture of a frame or anything else. Echo isn't the best photographer, but she's an avid one and her living area is covered in a myriad snaps of mostly people that she feels tells the story of her life and those around her. One particular photo of Echo and four others all huddled together in an obviously happy time holds place of honor next to her bed, the only one in an actual frame. She claims to have hundreds more that aren't printed out saved digitally.

She also brought along a collection of accpetable (by her standards) attire and a few odds and ends to go with it.

Bio: Echo grew up on a relatively poor Amani vessel. Both of her parents were mechanics and engineers, and she spent hundreds of hours with them in the depths of the ships workings, learning how to fix things or MacGuyver them into working correctly.

She was only six when the aliens came in and destroyed so much, killed so many. It was from them that she first learned what true anger was. Echo learned to hate after her parents died at the hands of the invaders, and she learned to fear as well.

But Echo had first learned love from her parents, not only for herself, but for the great machines that housed and kept them safe from the deadly vaccuum outside. Echo threw herself into learning, determined to make sure that wherever she lived would work well enough to escape the invaders the next time they came, or could fight back. It didn't take long for others to notice not only her single minded devotion to learning engineering and mechanics but her natural gifts for it as well. By the time she was ten she was easily the match for anything her parents could have done. By twelve she had left their capabilities in the dust. And she never stopped or looked back.

When the time came for Project Genesis, her name was put up by the captain of her ship, and it didn't take long for those doing the choosing to agree. Despite some incidents over the years where Echo's temper got the best of her, the girl was perfect in many ways. Her skills could prove invaluable to any ship, and her drive to learn and explore all but ensured that she'd jump at the chance. Coupled with her age and physical traits, she was quickly snapped up as an excellent candidate.

Name: Anabella 'Ana' Brax
Age: 40
Gender: Female
Nationality: Federation
Profession: Former CEO & Senior UEC Official. Currently Civilian Administrator for Ark Vitae.

Strengths:

  • Intellect: Rarely will Ana find herself out of her intellectual depth.
  • Courage: No matter the odds Ana will stand tall for what she thinks and feels.
  • Charisma: She was raised to work a room, but her personal gravity and charm are genuine natural gifts.

Weaknesses:

  • Mysterious: Sometimes getting a firm grasp on the woman's true feelings or intentions can seem impossible.
  • Fame: She is never an unknown, she is never able to casually blend in. Eyes are always on her.
  • Unmilitant: While she has trained in weaponry and survivalism to prepare for this, she has precious little field experience.

Personal Effects:

  • Organic 3D printer capable of several pre-programmed food items.
  • A small private art collection, including some famous pieces.
  • Clothes and beauty supplies. Plenty of clothes.
  • Possibly used connections to secure a store of items/resources to use strategically.

Bio:

Of the people that came out of World War III better than they went in, perhaps none did so better than Atticus Brax. At the start a peon of military research and design, by the end of it, a renowned inventor and engineer that helped make any sort of claim to victory possible through his genius and obsessive work ethic. After the war Brax went into buisness for himself, using war time connections and contacts to immediately secure a source of income for his small Brax Industries. By the time the man died many years later, the small business would be on the verge of conglomerate.

Atticus' son, Charles, was already in place to continue the trajectory. Though not the scientific or engineering genius of his father, Charles Brax had a better sense of people and business, bringing more of a CEO's mindset to Brax Industries than a mad scientist. When the Cold War began to heat up, he knew how to take advantage of it, and better yet, he knew how to work with the other side. Where governments and militaries could not go, industry and buisness could, and did. Growing Brax Industries to a world power in it's own right became Charles' obsession where Atticus' obsession had been producing advacement after advacement, establishing a base from which to launch future generations from.

The same generational mindset didn't hit Charles until his early forties. Though late to the game, it wasn't very hard for Charles Brax to find women that were interested in helping him establish family. Only problem was, he didn't like any of them, and was more than content to be lonely than force the issue with the wrong person. However content he was with that scenario, it wasn't one that lasted. During a deposition in a lawsuit he discovered a lawyer as sharp on the inside as she looked on the outside. She only turned him down six times, having no interest in appearing to be digging for Brax gold when she herself made more than most men she knew of.

As content as he was to wait, Charles Brax was just as aggressive when he found what he wanted. Over time he wore Eleanor down with patience and friendship and kindness, the only gift he ever gave her was an engagement ring--he knew she'd throw any other gift right back in his face. Though a happy and close match, the couple would only last twenty years, and two children, before it ended sadly. No matter how hard Charles Brax pushed the medical arms of the Brax business empire, there was nothing that could be done to save his Eleanor from a mix of genetics and bad luck. Fortunately for the two children, it had been enough time to have Eleanor instill in them everything that made her, and Charles, great people with good hearts.

And better yet, as Eleanor liked to say, "deep souls."

Anabella was the oldest, and much to her mother's delight and father's agony, from her earliest days it was clear who she took after: Atticus Brax. Curious, restless, fearless, and wildly independent. From her father she gained an appreciation in his worldview; a world of buisness that truly ruled the world, no matter what governments and artists said, the place where the Brax family could do the most good while gaining the most success. To Charles, wealth and the capacity to do good were one and the same.

From Eleanor, she gained the appreciation of just the opposite: that love and compassion weren't dulled by a lack of resources, if anything the inverse was usually true. She learned to love art, and music, and that those with the most must in turn do the most with those with the least. Both as a matter of humanism, and as a point of practical survival: the more they the masses saw you as a force of good, as another human soul not a callous capitalistic leach, the less the odds those masses would come and tear your house down and destroy everything you worked so hard to gain.

The common theme between both parents? Survival. To Ana that always meant survival of the Brax dynasty. She was raised for it; brought up going all over with her father, meeting with leaders of various governments and industries, closed door diplomacy whether in boardrooms or private clubs or in government chambers. Schooling in various parts of the world, even a few years spent learning on Mars. Then her father's right hand in business until his death, and taking over the mantle of chief philanthropist from her mother after Eleanor's death. Ana Brax was born for it, raised for it, destined to it. Nothing could stop that.

Until the Three Day War.

Everything changed. The daily botherings of business were left mostly to her brother and son, Ana and her own husband always on the move, throwing every hour of their lives and every resource they had into making the United Earth Council a reality, into doing everything that could be done to ensure survival. When her husband grew weary of the effort after three years, Ana all but dismissed him back to help their son and her brother. She helped negotiate the Articles of the United Earth Council, played a central role in striking conciliating concessions for Mars, and even helped drive what remained of Armani to the Genesis Project. Her personal, physical, inclusion in one of the Arks was a shock to many; most of all her family. Her brother stayed behind to take over all family ventures, and most painfully of all, her son refused to join her and her husband--the cost of neglect from a mother more focused on humanity than her only son.

Béla Kovács, Psy.D.

The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts.

Profession: Clinical Psychologist

Nationality: European Confederacy

Age: 38

Gender: Male

Appearance
Like many others chosen to fill the Genesis Arks, Bela carries a sort of tiredness with him carried since the Three Day War, and it shows in the crease of his brow, the rigidity in his neck. He carries himself with an air of purpose, but is without a sense of-self importance - his presence is noticeable, but only just, as his demeanor is more subdued than commanding. His body language and posture is of someone who is deliberate and controlled, yet there is something svelte and feminine about the way he walks in the Vitae, swifty placing one foot gingerly in front of the other. But there is a real stiffness to him - a crook in his arms which are usually tucked into deep pockets, a slight gauntness about his face. So it goes.

As many of his colleagues, Bela dresses very predictably - always some neutrally colored twill pants, a crisp, cotton button-up of some sort, and generally a woolen sweater. The only exception to his bland manner of dress is his worn, leather dress shoes, smelling faintly of turpentine. There is a hazelliness to his hair that might have been quite attractive at some point; and he is, though his external appearance is otherwise unremarkable. Bela is of medium height - around 5’8” - rather lanky, and sports a generally trim beard.

Strengths
Mindful: Conducting himself with great care, Bela is very considerate in his dealings with other people and is not quick to engage in conflict. He is composed and methodical, and communicate well with others.
Doc: Kovacs has ample experience as a psychologist, and his clinical interests include cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
Cultured: With a well of knowledge relating to literature, history, philosophy, and the arts, Bela has the capacity to give those interested quite an earful.

Weaknesses
Irreverant: Bela holds most government-associated superiors in disdain, and is particularly distrustful of those in military positions. This can lead to considerable strain on his interpersonal relationships, given the personnel of the Vitae.
Withdrawn: With a great deal of survivor's guilt and a good mix of existential dread, Kovacs sometimes uses his method of mindfulness as an emotional crutch. And in doing so, represses and ignores what he actually feels - so at times he seems very emotionally withdrawn and ingenuine.

Bio
After the madness of the Third World War, Bela grew up in the shadow of the fall of the European Confederacy. Back when culture had meant something, his great-grandfather had been a composer in Debrecen, which had flourished in the mid-21st century as a cultural capital in Hungary despite the encroachment of Russia. Supposedly, it had been a beautiful city - beautiful in August, when musicians would perform in the open-air gardens for polite groups that savoured the scent of flowers in late summer. There was unspoken hope at the beginning of the War - before any real talk of proceedings had even happened - that Debrecen would remain unscathed, regardless of what had happened. In February 1945, the cultural capital of the German states had been firebombed in a display of unrelenting brutality, creating a small vacuum in Eastern European cultural and artistic heritage. The destruction of a cultural landmark with such little strategic significance would be remembered.

There were words, and sometimes pictures which pieced together a memory of pre-War Europe. There were smaller cities in what used to be Hungary that survived in the governmentless states after the war. The cities in postwar Europe had gained some semblance of normalcy by the time he was born, nearly one hundred years after the start of the Third World War. Reorganizing and rebuilding infrastructure. New passages of trade and communication materialized amidst the rubble - life would have to continue. Cultural memory having disintegrated, especially with the loss of language and elder generations, recollections of the past were scattered. Bela was taught to speak and write in English, and the Hungarian he knew was a facsimile of the real thing. As were the memories, clumsily handed down to him through a scattering of recollections: from his mother, a description of the speckled, rotunda-like village churches; from his father, a description of the flower festivals, and of the narrow style of rectangular windows that characterized the fortresses, the small houses, the town buildings. There were many romantic images, so much so that the image of prewar Europe was perhaps more idyllic, more beautiful than it actually was.

They persisted. And though the authentic memories of Europe had all but been decimated - physically and digitally - there still existed deep histories, memories of Europe before the Third War entirely. Bela spent his adolescence ferverously consuming what culture he could, the culture that had existed before. He read of French philosophers and ancient castles and looked at the paintings of the Peredvizhniki. He learned that Russian novels contained every facet of life, but Czech novels did too - but were substantially shorter. He dreamed of the PreSocratic mode of living, felt distraught that Marcus Aurelius had lost 7 of his 10 children. He obtained a copy of Seneca’s On the Shortness of Life for a girl that later broke his heart. This is how he grew up.

Bela had been in his first year of University amidst the Three Day War, studying literature. The War had dramatically changed what society had come to value, and again any semblance of culture was eschewed for practicality, as the times called for. Bela studied cognitive science and psychology, then. He would become a doctor and somehow contribute to the harried mess that had been the United Earth Council as society pivoted to focus fully on scientific progress and technological advancement. Likewise, Bela was quickly churned out of the educational system with a doctoral degree in psychology, all in record time. And though the depth of passion wasn’t quite there, Bela more than excelled - and why not? Humanity had already been contemplating its own problems since the time of Plato, and the thread of thought that had first emerged more than two thousand years ago seemed novel again in Bela’s retelling of it.

There were questions that himself and his colleagues had puzzled over, which had probably been answered in a different form long ago, though no philosophical predecessor of any of them would have ever contemplated their specific frameworks. While Bela acted as a traditional clinical psychologic, this sort of contract work through the university was certainly interesting. How should relationships occur, given a controlled population and other logistical problems (quite complicated, though a mathematician after Hall might disagree)? What was the best type of therapy to combat concerns with identity and existence in the modern, technologically-driven world? These were the sorts of questions Bela occupied himself with while the world spun out of control and culture went to shit.

It was with a feeling of resigned acceptance that Kovacs accepted his post aboard the Vitae.

Personal Effects:
Some clothes and well-worn shoes. A fountain pen and a small set of journals containing memories and thoughts. An electronic notebook containing a library of novels, journals, and images. A scratched-up, silk eyemask.
