@Zelosse
Since I left Catherine's backstory pretty empty and vague, I was wondering if it's OK that she was an elementalist terrorist that broke out of her organization and became a crime lord? A young wind elementalist who was convinced of Elementalist Superiority, enlisted, and used as a weapon against non-elementalists. However disagreements with the leadership would cause her to leave the militant group only to then use her natural talent, cunning, and charm to build her own little criminal empire until she was finally taken down by Kano and other teachers. She sold Kano intel on elementalist terrorist groups for amnesty. She's more-or-less reformed and plays along quite nicely, but she has a strong desire to nurture independence in her students rather than discipline, believing that everyone has a right to be selfish, within reason. It also explains her calm confidence and potentially snobby nature (which has yet to be shown). Maybe some of the other teachers still fear and/or hate her, since she gives elementalists a bad name.
@Zelosse @Stern Algorithm
You can bet that Kano would have made use of Jordan's unique talents in taking down Catherine and bringing her around to the good guys! However unlike other more predictable teachers, Manilow would probably have found Catherine to be quite alluring, if obviously a bit on the dangerous side. Whether anything came of that depends on what you would think Stern, but I mean hey? I find it pretty fun when the mentors in stories have histories, especially with each other. ;) ;) Nudge, nudge.
Not to be needlessly grim, but Kano lacks the required humanity to believe you were capable of forgiveness.
To summarize the punishment: stripped of your second soul and thus your connection to the wind, then exiled if not outright killed. Information or not.
Im not saying you cant have done what you said but make sure Kano isnt the one who caught you.
@Zelosse @Stern Algorithm Ahem... *points not so subtly at himself* A certain gym teacher could have vouched for her...
@Kalleth Never let Kano know what she did. Or that you tried to save her.
You'll both be served the same fate.
Ok, coming back to this conversation, Catherine was not taken down by Kano, instead, she was betrayed by someone in her organization and, having lost everything and left for dead, has a chance encounter with Jordan. With nothing left to lose, she spills her guts and, after finding out that Jordan works as a teacher for the draconian Kano Hargor, fully expects to be killed on the spot. Jordan shows mercy and helps Catherine back on her feet, ultimately convincing her to become a teacher like him. Catherine probably found solace in Jordan's companionship, if you know what I mean. While she is on friendly terms with him, she is a bit ashamed of her relationship with him as it reminds her of her lowest point in life, and she has since put some professional distance between herself and him. This doesn't mean she won't tease or flirt with him on occassion, but she needs to feel like she's the one in control and not emotionally dependent on him. In other words, she likes giving Jordan the Blue Balls :P
Her 'villain' name was Breathtaker, and her true focus is vacuums. Her signature technique is creating a vacuum around a victim which causes asphyxiation, disorientation, and pain as the liquids and gases in the body try to evaporate in a pressure-free environment. This is followed by releasing the vacuum, resulting in an implosion that is like getting hit with a cannonball. This process is called cavitation, think
Mantis Shrimp.
Is this acceptable?
