Quick question, if she's born in 2017, how is she 25?

Jeez. So much hate on Nexus...
It's a sass-bot. It's supposed to smash your chair with it's bot-butt for telling it to do silly things like sit in it.
xD

For a bureaucrat, Roland's seems to lack foresight. That or he's just racist against beep-boops by expecting them to be wholly subservient and versatile to his whim...like a wrench or hammer.

Isn't that basically the reason why humans started creating beep-boobs?? So that they'd have something that would do work for them on command? Or am I mistaken? I thought that is why they were created in the first place. Of course by now some of them have a personality integrated or whatever, but it wasn't always like that, was it?

Correct me if I am wrong please...

Cogito ergo sum.

Creators shouldn't get upset with their creations that they designed to have the capacity for independent thought. I could go into the concept of intelligent design, but I don't want to get too offensive.
:b

Edit: Just playing devil's advocate since I also play a beep-boop and get slightly rustled jimmies over the anti-AI tones.
Mostly in the spirit of the RP.

Edit2: I may be overthinking things. Idk how autonomous Nexus is.

@Hawlin I'm not saying they shouldn't have personalities. I was just pointing out how that was the purpose of the original idea of creating beep-boops and sure some (maybe Roland? maybe not *shrugs*) might still have that kind of sense of thinking. I have a question though. Is Luci scared of 'death' (like most humans are)?

Yeeeesssss...?
Luci is aware that they died at some point, though lack actual memory of the event. That in mind, they're wary of the nebulous void that came between their body dying and waking up as essentially a copy. It's a bit different than being 'afraid of death', rather a waking dread of already being dead in a million pieces somewhere.

Dying again is a bit inconvenient at this point as their life lost the meaning it once had, though they're lost in an existential flux of believing that, as long as they know who they are, they never truly died.

...or...at least that's whatever the android shell that thinks it's 'Lucile' believes.

@Hawlin *cries* Stop mentioning that they died!! That's Jessa's best friend right there! Shush!

They should have some bonding moments. Luci and Jessa have to be friends. I like them as friend :)

@ChaoticFox Why are you losing wifi? Are you somewhere without much wifi? Glad your wifi worked / was available for now! :)

Edit: Hey, all! I am feeling like many characters from the Character Tap haven't appeared in the IC yet. Did anyone drop out and I didn't notice? Or maybe they're just busy?? I hope the latter. Because those characters are all just soooo good. You know what I mean? This group has a ton of amazing characters somehow. And the relations already showing is pure amazing as well.

Crap, Chris is acting a little too serious. Can't wait until this mission blows over and he can just prance around the ship, throwing poisonous plants at people again.

@KahleenCuthald

I haven't seen some of the others appear. Maybe they are just busy?

Think about robots like children for a minute. Does every parent expect their child to follow absolutely every single order ever given to them? Children are creations, children's have free thought. This robot is a creation, it also has hundreds of "free-thoughts" at a single moment. One of those may be subservient, but due to consensus, it is beaten out. Free will does not always breed subservience.

@ChaoticFox That sounds awesome!! I hope you are having a hella lot fun!

@Dr Catfish I definitely agree with you. But I was just saying that it was the intention of human kind that the robots and AIs would serve in their interest, with no inconvenience. So maybe Rolands still has that in mind, that they serve the humans in the humans interest? So maybe that's why he thinks Nexus' reaction was a result of poor programming? Because he thinks the robots should all do as he pleases and do not talk back but still think creatively and get hints? Maybe he doesn't see Nexus as a 'personality' and therefore doesn't take his actions as one of personality, but one of 'programming' and therefore instead of calling it a 'lack of good personality' he calls it 'bad programming'? I am totally just rambling here. I am probably 100% wrong with everything I say xD I kind of am a lot these days.

While most robots created to serve do serve, Nexus was created... But never given directives or a proper AI matrix. It was developed as a shell for a human conscious, it developed its "conscious" as a will of self-preservation. "Life" literally spawned from jumbled code in a computer, and transferred itself into Nexus, propagating hundreds of times to create the machine as you know it.

I do see what you mean. Rolands expects a droid that will bark if you ask it to. But nexus has to run that bark command through what is basically, a committee of a couple hundred people to see if its a logical, proper action to make. And with how long the machine has researched alone, and all it's accomplished, barking is beneath it.

@ChaoticFox Amazing!! Don't lose any of those memories. Can't wait to have you back properly and see all the awesomeness Wolfe sure has to bring to the story! (Btw, German?? Man, I wanna have Jessa and Wolfe have a conversation in that language. It's my language. I am German.)

@Dr Catfish It does have to take orders though, even if it's not logical to them. And do it as best as they can. That's part of the job requirement, I would guess. It's gonna be fun to watch him and Garthar and also him and Rolands definitely. Jessa will keep her distance though xD

@KahleenCuthald

You say that, but if asked to bark, would you? You'd probably carefully consider if the individual asking was important enough, as well as if barking will advance the order-er's opinion of you.

Which is just the case here. The order to sit was ridiculous and it offered the machine a way to show just how ridiculous it was for someone that blind. Regulation keeps people in line, but it also gets people killed if that's all they will follow.

If Rolands had spoken to Nexus and said: "There's a giant parasite attacking me, help me get this thing off!" Then Nexus would have absolutely followed orders and assisted its crew-mate in peril.

Edit: Without question.

@Dr Catfish I do not think that barking and sitting on a chair during a meeting are the same. While sitting was definitely not required in his case and probably rather unusual for him, he still showed the second-in-command off in front of the whole crew and the captain and added a snarky comment that wasn't necessary. He kind of humiliated the boss in front of the whole crew. He went a little far there. He could have tried to seek a private conversation about the situation afterwards, but he chose to pull it off in front of all. And Rolands seems like someone who likes to be respected rather than joked about.

On another note: otherwise it wouldn't have been this entertaining!! It was quiet amusing to read. ;)

Gentlemen, you're spamming our OOC. If you wish to debate ethics, please may I suggest you do it elsewhere.

Yes, Nexus would be a very well-designed robot if he had a logic filter, so I do not see why he can't use it. However, it's his job to follow orders. We must also remember none of our characters are autonomous because WE CONTROL THEM! So, really, its how we want to portray our characters. If anyone has a problem with the way another RPs, is it really their place to say so? No.

So for the love of god calm down.

@Erklings25 Actually, I am completely calm. I haven't criticized anyone's way of RPing. It was a simple conversation, but we definitely are spamming the OOC. I apologize for that. I'll drop the chit chatting now definitely ;)

But please don't address me as a man. It bugs me. Thank you very much. :)
