Hi,
I've been roleplaying for....ten years. I know, how do I continue to do this to myself. I'm not sure, perhaps I enjoy pain. Perhaps I am the lovable masochistic character we all know and love. Who's to say, honestly? I have no fucking clue. I'm just feel so damn old in this community now.
Anywho, been floating between a variety of sites since I was young, started in the very very cringy forums of chickensmoothie.com, a site that isn't even devoted to roleplay it just has it for some reason. I realized I loved it very quickly, then found reasons to hate it immediately afterwards. Storytelling is beautiful, falling in love with an interesting and powerful character is one of the greatest experiences your own imagination can provide, and being able to have all of that with friends makes it all the better, but sometimes the shit just sucks. Sometimes it sucks guys, if you didn't already know I'm telling you now. Plots don't always work, people don't always have time, things don't always fall into place. Sometimes you don't love what you thought you did love, sometimes you have to let it all fly away and move on to another tale. The community that develops roleplay consists of 3 levels, most people within it tend to blend between two at once, but you'll see these levels quite plainly. Level 1 is people who just want to play pretend with some pals. Story isn't important, rationale and logic is optional, all you need is a manic pixie dream girl and her love triangle of overly emotional teenagers and the world's your oyster. Level two is people actually starting to implement the idea of writing into it. You start to see storyboarding, character development, advanced concepts, moral challenges, and maybe, just maybe, people will stop godemoding all over your combat scenes. Probably not, but there's a chance. Level 3 is where shit gets real. The stories are important to you, the characters you invest in them are like pieces of your soul, and you're either placing them in your own magnificently manifested world or handing them very gently to someone else's (or baseball pitching the fuckers who knows it's your guy). This is where I believe I am. I am a writer, I have been writing for a very long time, and I've been told that the community here may just be able to allow me the environment I need to really do well with that. I hope to find many magnificent characters to mercilessly kill enjoy alongside you all. I hope you somehow made it through this massive tangent.
IC for ya boy's hot shit drops soon. Get hype.
Sincerely yours,
Rook
