Guinevere Stark

Location: Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
{"When life gives you lemons, construct a crude electrochemical battery."}

The last month had been particularly grueling for Guin and the morning of February 13th was no different. S.H.I.E.L.D. had "kindly" gotten her professors to allow her to make up labs whenever possible, meaning that she had spent all of yesterday working. While she had entered college with plenty of credit, she didn't have enough of the labs to just skip a bachelor's degree and go straight to the doctorate. Instead, she essentially had four high level labs for chemical and molecular science to complete each semester. Last semester had been considerably easier, given that she was mostly acting as a liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the X-Men.

This semester had been hell so far. Her foot hardly left the accelerator as she took her father's impala all the way from New York City to Upstate New York. She was on her second energy drink of the day, with her morning thus far consisting of completing lab reports and paperwork for S.H.I.E.L.D. about progress made on the serum Beast was developing. There were moments in her drive where she was tempted to shut her eyes for a moment and just relax. It felt like it had been ages since she'd gotten to just kick back, eat some chips, and play Papers, please on her computer.

She finished off the energy drink as she pulled up to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, tossing the can aside in the seat and grabbing another can of Monster. Cracking it open, she got her things out of the car, having parked it outside, before she proceeded to head in. Guin gave a friendly wave to the younger kids at the school, running off for their morning classes. She figured that she'd find Beast in his lab as always and she knocked on the door to announce herself, before heading inside.

"I couldn't find any of the articles you wanted at NYU's library," Guin said, once she had gotten Beast's attention. "I've texted Dad about it, he might be able to pull some strings to find them but...How's it coming? Any luck figuring out how to stop this thing yet?" She doubted there was, since these things took time, but she was hopeful. The chemicals and specimens that the Brotherhood had stolen were dangerous. She had only just found out about Magneto's plan this morning, shortly after Professor X and Beast had. Beast had messaged her asking if she could find some specific journal articles that might help him, but they all were missing. There weren't any electronic copies that she could tell and the physicals weren't there either.

Cassandra Reed

Location: The Mansion

It had been a month since their mission at the power plant had failed, she spent it recovering after her injuries fighting against Sabertooth, she was sitting in the room that was assigned to them. She looked down at her arm for a moment it had left a rather nasty looking scar, but she was still alive. She had been going over the reports that she had been given from SHIELD, trying to find any other information from the places that Magneto had been hitting.

Cassandra was glad that her sister had decided to join them, aside from trading information every now and then they haven't officially worked together until now. Her sister had gone off to go and look around for something to do around the school while she worked, Cassandra decided to leave the room for a bit and see what the others were doing.

Cassandra started to walk along the halls of the Institute seeing some of the younger kids that were there heading to some of their classes, while others were chatting like things were normal. She decided to head down to Beast's lab and see how things were going, she wasn't a chem or bio major in college she mainly practiced physics, and mathematics. Then she spotted Guin as she made her way into the lab. "Hows it going you two find anything?" Cassandra asked as she leaned just outside of the lab looking over at the two of them.

Carolina Reed

Location: The Mansion

Carolina had found herself a nice little balcony at the back of the school overlooking the school grounds as she held out her notepad and a pencil on her lap. It was something that she enjoyed doing in her spare time as she always did enjoy drawing and it was also something that she was really good at doing. Carolina gave a few smiles and waves from the other kids who had greeted her, it did feel a bit weird going to another school that had kids with abilities.

She continued to do her drawing that showed the school grounds occasionally looking back for reference, Carolina hadn't been to the school very long she managed to talk with a few people there and made some friends since she had been here. Running a hand through her hair as she felt a light gust of wind go past her as she started to finish up with her drawing, setting it down into her pack and got up to her feet deciding to go for a little walk around the grounds for a bit.

Oshea Jackson and Allison Andrews

It was a long month. Every day was one of rehabilitation and solo danger room situations; his training regimen consisted of light jogging once he was out of his cast, and then light leg presses, he also focused on maintaining his core strength so his trunk muscles did not entropy while he dedicated much of his workouts to re-gaining and improving his leg strength and the muscle imbalance caused by elongated bedrest during the early parts of his recovery. Chin ups, push ups, sit ups, all sorts of light upper body workouts made sure he kept his upper body toned and in shape. When the aches weren't present or the entire leg wasn't stiff, he made use of the danger room, combatting simulated enemies of varying strength levels and power sets. Most of the time he lost--much of the speed he once had was gone as of right now. To get back in mission shape, it would take a push.

To this end, he utilized the campus grounds. For hours each day and each night he would run. At first, it was speedwalking--quite the strange sight, watching a grown man move with the ferocity of a soccer mom with errands to run on a Sunday afternoon with no end in sight--then more light jogging, until finally his leg had gotten strong enough to sustain running at cross country speeds for a few minutes. All of this was followed by a full body ice bath, R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, elevation) and working on a large painting of an Edo era Japanese farming village. It was the banality of the village and yet the underscored importance of the farmers to the society which resonated with Oshea. To the X-Men, he wasn't of much use in the field right now, but he would find other ways to be useful.

So, he began reading about great war generals, tactics, the use of space, kinetics. Night and day he read and trained until his psyche was cured of the growing sense of inadequacy he had begun to feel; he trained until his body once again matched the speed of his mind. But the aches were still there, and his reflexes were still not quite up to par. The days he was not training or locked in his room painting and reading, he could be found in the common area playing video games and competing with himself in a game of chess.

Allison was trying to remain positive.

Ever the ray of light in the darkest of times, it was harder now more than ever to be her normal, bubbly self. To that end she tried not to think about the impending doom of either the mutant population or the humans. Instead, she tended to practice her powers (especially her new one) as well as talking to Professor Xavier whenever possible. After all, the Professor’s own abilities closely resembled hers and she wanted to learn as much as she could in order to learn how to be helpful should another mission come up.

Still, it was always in her head. So when she was making her rounds, she noticed Oshea playing chess. She felt bad for the man who got extremely hurt during their last mission, but he seemed to be doing all right. She took a breath in and made her way over. Hey Oshea, mind if I play? I’m not very good, but I am eager to learn!”

Oshea leaned back in the chair as he noted Allison’s approach. With a genuine smile he welcome her to the seat situated across from him.

”Aight, no problem. First thing you gotta learn is how to use ya pawns, the li’l small joints” he grabbed a single piece from amidst its brethren and wiggled it around in the clutch of two fingers.
”they only move two spaces from their original spot and can only move forward or back one space after. You can use ‘em to capture other pieces by movin’ ‘em diagonal, tho’. People think the pawn is the most useless part of the board, right? But nah, nah, see they ain’t limited like a Rook or a Bishop, right? You can use ‘em as lure and bait, you see?”

He displayed the pawn’s freedom of movement and used one of them to capture an erroneously placed Bishop.

”Real easy, y’know? The pawn always gone first, but wit’out sacrificin’ them you can’t win the game. You learn that, you’ll be a master in no time!”

”The Knight is prolly one of the most versatile pieces in the game. He can cover a whole petimeter ‘round himself--he moves two up and one to the side or he moves one to the side and two up. He like me an’ Quicksilver, right? He gets in an’ out fast, and you gotta aim to get him off the board early to take away ya opps movement.”

”Boom. Boom.” He demonstrated again, showcasing the interchangeable horizontal-vertical and vertical-horizontal movement of the Knight in each direction two spaces horizontally and one space vertically and vice versa.

”Now the Bishop, him and the Knight is wild similar. Both of ‘em sorta kinda move diagonally, but the Bishop can only move diagonally. He can’t go forward or backward or side to side, nothin’. But he comes outta left field though, right? Like Cassandra and Starkette. He jus’ be sittin’ there, waitin’ for you to come in his path and BAM! Gotcho ass. He a real sniper, one hit kill for real and the best distraction you got.”

”Now this jawn,” Oshea swaddled a Rook in his hands, “she a bad one. She can move forward and backward from one end of the board to another, but she can’t go side to side. Her and the Bishop compliment each other, right? But the Rook, she ya bulldozer. She gone come right atchu wit’ no fear; s’like yew wit’ the mind-movin’ thing. She can crush anything in her path so long as its right in front of her, it’s what she don’t see that is usualy her death.”

”Not sayin’ you gone die or nothin’ but… you know what I mean..” Oshea hoped she knew what he meant because he didn’t.

He continued on, “Now, the Queen is the second most important part of the game, right? She can move wherever she wants on the board, she the one with all the power, like in a real relationship. She more like Ayita and Damon an’ nem, right? They can shift to fit any moment before em. She can take any piece on the board, she blend in. If you lose her early you done already lost the game."

Oshea had his hands clasped together behind his bald head and rocked the titled char back and forth ever so slightly, and one time he almost fell over.

"Now last and least, the King, the big dog. If you lose him, it’s game over no matter what. This here” he picked up the King, “is our Professor X, our Beast, our Marygold. One of them go down, the whole operation dead. Problem wit’ the King is he can’t do much fa himself. He can only move one space in any direction unless it mean he gone get put in check. Technically he is the most important piece in the game, but he wouldn’t survive at all wit’out errbody else.”

"That all make sense?”

Allison took it all in and thought it was kind of cute showing how each of the pieces of the game correlated to one of them. She had to admit, it was all a lot of information, but she got through it. ”Yeah, I think I got it. So when there’s a check, that means that the king can be captured in the next move right? And a checkmate means there’s no way and they lose? I remember my grandpa playing and trying to teach me when I was little.”

She studied the board, gathering all the pieces in her mind. It was always a complicated game. You compared me to the rook, but I wonder if I’m just a pawn. Something without much use other than to be there and be sacrificed. I mean, everyone at the plant seemed to be doing something useful, whereas I just kind of...was there. Other than gaining a new power, I didn’t do much.” She hadn’t admitted it to the others really, but it’s what she had been feeling since she left the plant.

Still leaning back in the chair, he took in her words. He never imagined someone like Allison having doubt or struggle of any kind, her cheer had seemed so impenetrable until now. Nonetheless, he could relate and he didn't have the pride to tell the others how he felt either. Inadequacy was easy to bury, it was hard to be free from.

"Everybody got a role to play, you know? If somebody think they better than the team, everybody lose. The biggest and strongest nigga can still be beaten by a li'l dude if the li'l dude got a better mind. I mean, tsh, you see what happened to me, right? I'm all types of messed up--it don't even matter, right? Plus now you'll be knockin' errbody out ya way."

Nina van Essenhout

Location: The Mansion

In the past month, Nina had tried to avoid the school as much as she could. There was no real point hanging around there (Thought they had been gracious enough to give her a room; albeit shared, but she and Cassandra were on good terms) until she had a mission to take part in, and she didn't exactly relish the thought of being around Professor Xavier. Personal feelings about the kids in his school aside, Nina disliked having people be able to rummage around in her mind. Unfortunately, super-strength did nothing against warding off psychics. Unless threatening them counted, but that was hardly an option when it came to the X-Men. Especially when they were affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D.

S.H.I.E.L.D itself had been surprisingly accommodating for Nina - not only had she been treated with respect (Or rather, they hadn't treated her like some common criminal, which had been expected) but they also gave her more free reign that she had first assumed. For the first time in nearly a decade, she could walk the streets without fear of arrest. Although she still had to be vigilant when on the look out of Valkyrie agents, Nina felt some relief in being able to just grab a quiet drink in a bar that wasn't as seedy and shady as she'd grown accustomed to for the past few years of her life. It had been good, so far... but she expected that to end eventually. Particularly when it came to the first mission.

The stakes were high for this one; much higher than the previous mission that Nina hadn't been present for, and with the way that one had been messed up so much, she didn't have high hopes for the second. And with genocide on the line, that worried her more than a bit, regardless of whether she was part of the target group or not.

Car pulling up the long gravel driveway, Nina looked up at the manor building dubiously as it grew closer. The few times she'd visited she'd seen plenty of young kids, easily ranging between 10 and 20, all just going about their life and enjoying classes. Classes that they couldn't get anywhere else because of what they were. It was good, of Professor Xavier and the other teachers to be able to give this to the mutant children, who were either runaways, disowned, or simply just hiding the truth still from their parents. But Nina knew that they were all seen as soldiers in some way too... and that's what really bothered her about this place.

Even though having only been here a few times, Nina knew enough of where to go - the way to the lab's below ground was mostly hidden from the students, from what she could understand, but she, the X-Men, and the S.H.I.E.L.D agents were privy to this knowledge. Stepping out of her car, her stiletto heels crunched against the gravel before tapping onto the stone floors of the mansion. By the look of the old car outside, Nina could guess one particular S.H.I.E.L.D agent was already present. Wonderful.

"Good morning." Nina's polished tones were heard to the three in Beast's lab following the clipping of her heels on now metal floor. "Have there been any developments?"

Marygold Isley

Marygold tried to stay calm. The fact that they were running out of time to stop Magneto, and she was freaking out. She never dreamed that anything like this would happen, not even close. This was horrible, and the fact that they didn't even know the exact makeup of what it was that they were up against, that just made it harder. Marygold headed down towards the lab. She might as well figure this out now, or at least partially. The fact that they were still trying to figure things out about the virus Magneto plans to unleash.

Down in the lab, she saw that Beast wasn't the only one in the room. Apparently Guin had beaten her there, even after speeding all of the way from her school. She didn't very much care about that, but she was there to talk about business. She also noticed that Cassandra or Nina were there, and she nodded to them in recognition. "So, what ya got Beast?" she asked as she looked over at him.

"Unfortunantly, without any idea about this virus that Magneto has been creating, there is no way to tell exactly in which ways he is using them. However, I have compiled a list of what he has taken, that is at least a place to start. Yet without that chemical formula, there isn't very much that we can do about it," he said as he handed the list to Guin who was closer to him, and knew the chemicals far better than Marygold did.

"So, your basically saying that unless we go rushing head first to try to get this formula back, we are sitting ducks?"

"Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. We need that formula, either that or prevent Magneto's plan from coming to full fruition," he said, repeating what Marygold had said. "Great, just your typical Wednsday morning here at the Mansion," she mumbled under her breath.

Cassandra Reed

Location: The Mansion

Cassandra turned her head when she heard heels clacking against the floor and saw that it was Nina and gave her friend a happy smile it was good to see her there. "Great to see you Nina." Cassandra said with a smile as she saw Marygold walking in as well, she returned the nod towards the young leader as she also asked Beast what he had so far. The virus that Magneto was planning on making was really disturbing to her, she and Guin were pretty much the only ones that didn't have powers. Which was probably the disturbing part that he was planning on killing everyone who didn't have powers like the mutants have.

She ran a hand through her hair letting out a slight sigh, there was pretty much only one way to prevent him from unleashing the virus to the world. "Well the only way to prevent him from using it would probably hit him first." Cassandra said, she wasn't sure how far along he was with creating the virus but they needed to strike first before he did. "Even if he doesn't have it completed yet, we could prevent him from unleashing it onto everyone." She suggested looking over towards everyone that was in the room.

Carolina Reed

Location: The Mansion

Carolina decided to walk outside as she walked past a few kids that were there she started to tie her hair into a pony tail as she walked down the hall and then out of the back door to the grounds out back of the school. The school was a lot nicer then Alucard was, and less creepy looking as well. She walked along towards the basketball courts, seeing kids closer towards her age playing a game and smiled softly as she watched them for a moment. Soon Carolina started to head off to the other direction of the school grounds taking out her notepad at what she had been drawing.

Some of her drawings were in color and scenery while others were just random things that she had been drawing, mostly to pass the time while she traveled. Carolina wasn't really paying much attention as she walked past the others quietly humming to herself, when she wasn't paying attention Carolina ended up hitting into someone. She yelped slightly when she fell to the ground, her notebook hitting the ground as well rubbing her butt slightly as she looked up to see that it was Damon.

Ayita Dyrkin

Location Hanson Power Plant
{"My bite is worse than my bark."}

Crisp and clear. It was a lovely day, Ayita supposed. Still it lacked the atmosphere of her northern home. The clinging chill, the sweet air. Her muscles still rolled with that unusual grace the great cat had. Each step feeling the earth and shaping it before setting her weight upon it. Tigers were remarkable, more than most forms she had taken. Silent as may be, and deadlier than a wolf by far. Her lips twitched slightly as she remembered her remark about claws those many months ago. There was no way she'd use it in battle yet. It- the tiger instinct- didn't fully bend to her will and she was loathed to be branded a monster again. Ayita doubted she would ever be able to fully trust anyone who wasn't fully an animal. Damon and Allison had both come close as she dared allow someone. Even her roommate was tolerable, even if that mostly due to the fact Ayita made sure to sleep when the girl was out or asleep herself. Keeping to the sky or outdoors in her waking hours. Humans made little sense, she had noticed due her time listening to Allison. Though there was a certain rhythm to their lives, it wasn't the steady rhythm of the natural order.

Maybe she ought to try reading those 'How to Socialize' books. The one she had poked her nose into had seemed to know what it was talking about. She'd just have to be careful not to let anyone see her reading it.

There was more going on than her mundane, social interaction problem however. There had been little news of another hunt. She was growing restless. Which could just be the tiger. It rolled restlessly within her skin, aching to be let out and sated. A predator hunted, it waited and stalked. But there was no prey here. So she was stuck pulling the tail of a literal tiger to keep it minding her. It would slumber once her mind turned to other things, but for now she grumbled under her breath. How long till there was a lead?

She was caught up in her thoughts that a yelp startled her. Enough that the six foot tall woman physically jumped into the air. Feathers nearly sprouting as she whirled towards the sound. Carolina... Ayita had seen the younger Reed about. Seemingly she had run into the taller mutant, and the 'almost snack'. Snatching the book, aiming to grab it before it hit the ground. "Make some noise, before something eats you." Muttering more to herself the not so unreal warning, her voice still quiet and shy. Thrusting the book at Carolina she didn't bother to hide the irritated expression, before continuing towards the Manor. Maybe it would be a good time to find that book on human interaction.

Damon Fawkes

Damon had been silently following along ayita. He did not really like the way she looked. The look of that any second a tiger could replace her and he would have to try to calm her down. That being said, he was at a further distance then usual. And was completely absorbed into his own thoughts. Could he actually make sure she didn't damage anyone with just his tattoos? He had confidence in them, but what if they weren't enough.

Damon shook free of his thoughts and rolled his shoulders as he went to keep walking. That was when he got bumped into. Well more like collided with someone. He winced and saw a girl go down. Along with her falling was ayita nearly jumping out of her skin and him freaking out for a moment as well. He watched her grab her book and go off leaving him with the person. He seemed a bit bug eyed for a moment until he regained his composure. Awkwardly he held out a hand to help her up.

Damon was just as terrible at interacting outside of missions as ayita was in general. As his arm had moved his sleeve had slid causing more of his dragon tattoo to be visible. It seemed to curl slightly around his arm and one spot seemed to press up against his skin for a second. Damon had ignored of that and instead was focused on what he might say after he pulled the girl up. What was a good way to do it? Say your name? what? He internally sighed. He was too quiet a person for these types of things.

Guinevere Stark

Location: Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
{"If Plan A fails, remember you have twenty five letters left."}

Guin sensed a bit of a pattern forming. With the three new arrivals to the lab, each of them had to ask for developments, giving poor Beast hardly a moment to answer. But what else was she supposed to expect from Satan Herself, Nina van Essenhout? She could've easily given Meryl Streep a run for her money in the Devil Wears Prada and she even had the shoes to match. Guin practically gagged as Cassandra mentioned it was good to see Nina, not even bothering to hide the disgust on her face for Nina. Taking another sip of her energy drink, Guin could've even sworn that it didn't taste right ever since Nina went into the room, as if her very presence poisoned everything around her.

Guin skimmed over the list of chemicals that Beast handed to her. One of them jumped out at her. "Methyl iodide...It's a common enough chemical, but extremely dangerous. It can cause mutations in the genetic code, seizures, brain failure, comas..." She wasn't sure why or how Magneto intended to use it, but she doubted it was for any sort of safe industrial process. She then looked over the list once more. "He's taken some nucleotide bases and enzymes...Tissue cultures...This isn't a virus based on something natural. It's entirely manufactured. There has to be something about the mutant x-gene that prevents it from harming a host, but..." Guin bit her lip. Back in 2002, a team of scientists made the first entirely artificial virus, designed to target humans in order to prove that it could be done. The research was out there and all Magneto would need would be someone competent enough to perform the laboratory tasks.

Taking a picture of the list of chemicals with her phone, Guin returned it to Beast and then finished off her energy drink. "Without the virus itself, we'd need someone who was already infected and survived to get their antibodies from in order to make a serum to cure it...Hitting Magneto before this thing is even created is going to be the safest option. We know where he is and the team has been training all month. Pietro can get us in before Magneto even knows we're there."

Oshea Jackson

"Gotta enjoy life and appreciate rest, we mutants don't get much of it these days."

Location: Xavier's Mansion, Courtyard

He had heard through the grapevine he would be rooming with Quicksilver. Quicksilver, of all people! Who mandated this buffoonery? Did Professor X secretly hate him? Put me with the fool who snapped my damn leg in half, yeah, real smart. There was some sense of irony in all of it, though; maybe this was the world's way of telling him that he should see his 'enemies' as friends. They were mutants, moreover, and the world hated them both equally. It made them brothers; no, too strong--unintentional acquaintances. They did have similar personality traits, after all. As he laced up his Nikes to prepare for his daily run, he couldn't help but get lost in his thoughts again; the zipping pain from his healing leg fell to the back of his mind.

They really must think I'm some type'a fool out here. What, just 'cause nobody talks to me they think it's fun to mock me? Put the two speedsters together, it will be fun to see them rip each other's throats out. We all hate Oshea, yaaaaaaay!

Obviously this was not the case, he just had a habit of over-reacting. Things were always much bigger in his mind than in real life, he concocted elaborate schemes he thought would work because of their unorthodox--and this was usually the reason he ended up worse off than necessary. Just like the time he tried to rob another kid for his lunch money with a slingshot and got jumped. Flashbacks of getting stomped out still gave him headaches to this day. Part of him did wonder if the universe was plotting against him, though.

He supposed he could be in a much worse position. Allison's words lingered in his mind as well,

You compared me to the rook, but I wonder if I’m just a pawn. Something without much use other than to be there and be sacrificed. I mean, everyone at the plant seemed to be doing something useful, whereas I just kind of...was there. Other than gaining a new power, I didn’t do much.”

For all of his rehabilitation, and all of this waiting, he was also beginning to feel boxed in. He knew vaguely that Magneto was plotting something more devious than the world had ever seen and he didn't know how much help he would be in the grand scheme of everything. This ragtag team of young X-Men he called his compatriots were spirited, compassionate, and ready to save everyone they could; they had even gained some field experience together. But with all of their improvement as a unit, Magneto was pulling something together that was far more complicated than simple moves in a chess game. People were not chess pieces, and one could not merely undo the loss of thousands of lives--if it ever came to that.

He began his jog. It was a slow and steady pace from the Courtyard all the way around the school grounds. Word was there were some new X-Men around, another of the Reeds; the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were here to stay, and there was even a new teacher. He wondered how the rest of his teammates were feeling, Ayita in particular. Of those who generally avoided him because of his impulsive ways or his excessive energy, she was the one who tended to avoid people in general. That and Oshea always found her shapeshifting excited a primitive and boyish reverence for nature that he otherwise only expressed in his art. Like it or not, Oshea would make a point in the upcoming days to break that shell she had.

He kept a healthy pace, and stopped within the space of five minute intervals to ease the pressure on his healing leg. He wondered where everyone was, did no one like studying outside anymore? It was then that he saw Damon, Ayita, and Carolina who appeared to be in some sort of awkward conundrum foreign even to Oshea; this was, of course, something he enjoyed and figured he would make his way over.

Allison Andrews

Location: The Mansion
{"It could be worse, I guess?"}

Allison was struggling. While she continued to try to be a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dreary time, it was taking a toll. There was the fact there may be the extinction of the human or mutant race on the horizon. She could feel the tension inside the Mansion itself. Everyone was on edge. There was little she could do, but she continued to smile and try to cheer people up. She had a feeling she was being more of a nuisance than anything, buy it was her nature.

She still remembered her talk with Oseha. She still felt like she could contribute more. She wanted to explore and learn, but with all going on she also didn't want to be trouble.

Things were changing in the Mansion. They got some new people in and new room assignments. She was rooming with Jubilee and it was pretty cool. They often chatted about shopping or cute boys (they both had crushes on the same boy. Who is it? She'll never tell!).

Allison made her way to Professor X's office. She didn't want to bother him, but she hadn't had any other time before this. So she knocked on his door, waiting for him to probe her mind to see who it is. "It's me, Professor. I just want to talk, if that's all right."

Nina van Essenhout

Location: The Mansion

Although simply nodding in Marygold's direction when she entered, Nina offered up a warmer than usual smile to Cassandra at her greeting, indicating the feeling was mutual. Although Nina never let personal feelings get in the way of work, it was unusually pleasant to be working with someone who actually liked her - and that she liked back. It certainly made putting up with Madam Stark easier, that was for sure.

However, as Guin spoke, Nina listened closely. The idea of a completely engineered virus made sense; it would narrow the chances of mutants getting infected tenfold, if not more. And of course, it gave a flair of theatrics to whole affair. If there was one thing Nina had discovered about Magneto while looking through old case files and news reports, was that he liked to do things in a dramatic and sensational manner. Inventing a virus from scratch to unleash it upon the worthless humans sounded just like a Bond Villain plot... she could even imagine him sat in a large leather chair, stroking a cat in a sinister manner.

"It can cause mutations in the genetic code..." By that, Nina could only guess it could cause cancer, but without knowing the carcinogenic properties of methyl iodide, she couldn't guess. "Unless Magneto is planning on using that to his advantage... why kill all the humans when you can turn them into more mutants?" She pondered silently to herself, frowning a bit as she thought. This wouldn't be a new plan, but simply a new method. For all the world knew, everyone could have the potential to become a mutant... it just took a certain something to make that happen. Such as a man (or rather, mutant) made virus.

"Getting to him before the virus is completed would be our best bet, though he'll like expect it." Nina agreed with the others, examining the list of chemicals quickly. While no expert in biochemics, she knew the properties of most of the chemicals on the list. "However, I don't think we should be taking the Maximoff boy with us." Looking back to Guinivere, Nina folded her arms across her chest. "He shouldn't be trusted so easily. After attacking your group with his sister - and severely injuring one of your friends - he suddenly decides to jump ship and help us out? It's only been a month since this happened. What's to stop him running back to Magneto and betraying us like he did him?" While looking at Guin as she said this, it wasn't Nina's aim to direct this distrust towards her. She simply knew of her... affiliations with Pietro in recent weeks. "And don't tell me that the Professor can trust him because of his mind-reading. Xavier isn't infallible, and minds can always lie."

Marygold Isley

Marygold was kind of getting annoyed. Nina didn't trust Pietro, saying stuff about only knowing him for a month, and Guin probably wanting to argue about why he could be trusted. As usual, she was stuck in the middle of two people, and she has about had it. Unlike Nina, everyone else seemed to trust Pietro somewhat, at least no one has made a complaint about him yet, though that might be because he did save everyone's lives before he joined the X-Men. From what she knew, Nina didn't trust anyone though.

"Alright, we should strike Magneto before he completes the virus, that part is obvious," she said, and turned to look at Nina,"You may not trust Pietro, but several of us do. He saved our lives before he joined us, not after, and I don't like your lack of faith in the Professor's judgement at all. He accepted Pietro here, so he is fine with me". The fact that Nina seemed to be the only one who voiced her opinions out loud was still a little annoying. The least she could do was to just address the issue now and be done with it.

"So, with that out of the way, we need to gather everyone together. Looks like we've got work to do. We need to stop Magneto, before this virus of his is released. I'll let the Professor know though," she said as she turned her back and walked out of the lab. She was headed to his office, since she didn't know whether or not he would be talking with anyone, making her not want to bug him via his telepathy.

Allison
"Come in Allison, don't be shy," Professor Xavier said with a smile as the door opened. "Now, what seems to be the trouble?" He was fine with anyone entering, they hardly ever had to knock. He rolled his chair back behind his desk as he said this last statement, and motioned for Allison to take the other chair.

Everyone Else
You are free to continue with your current interactions, since several of you seem to all be in the same area except for those interacting with Professor X or Marygold.

Cassandra Reed

Location: The Mansion

"True he could be expecting us to come now, but we cant wait until he strikes first." Cassandra said, as she looked towards Nina as she started to speak about her distrust of Pietro. Cassandra had mixed feelings of the boy, but Guin seemed to have taken a liking to him rather quickly she has kept a close eye on him from time to time. But then again he could be trusted since he had saved them all a month ago back at the plant, they all could have died then. She knew Nina's heart was in the right place Cassandra ran a hand through her hair and sighed slightly.

"I'll go and get suited up, and meet you guys at the professor's office." Cassandra said and turned around as she started to head out of the lab and started to make her way towards the assigned room she had been using for the past month now. Cassandra found her bed and knelt down pulling out her case containing her gear.

Carolina Reed

Location: The Mansion

Carolina was stunned for a moment as she looked up at Aiyta as she grabbed her notepad that had all of her drawings in them, then she shoved them back into her hands and watched the girl walking off. She hadn't really talked to the woman that much other then knowing that she wasn't that sociable, then her attention turned towards Damon as he held out a hand towards her. Carolina blushed slightly and smiled as she took his hand and stood up, dusting herself off.

"Thank you." She said with a soft smile as she made sure that her notebook was still intact, then her attention turned back towards Damon. "Carolina Reed, I uh think you already know my older sister Cassandra." She said as she introduced herself and held out her hand towards Damon.

Guinevere Stark

Location: Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
{"Don't worry, zombies eat brains! You're safe. You don't have anything that even remotely resembles one."}

Marygold may have headed out and settled the argument before it began, but Guin was still pissed. Plastering on a fake and cheesy smile, Guin took back the list of chemicals and folded them up, sliding them away. She didn't care that Nina knew engineering science--she didn't want her help with this. "You know what? You're absolutely right! So I think we'll also need to get rid of the dirty untrustworthy skank," Guin added, faking a bit of a grimace. "It'd be fair, since we have no evidence that we can trust said ho and for all we know, this is just another elaborate ruse to steal classified information to give to the friendly neighborhood terrorists because of good intentions."

Guin then raised her now empty energy drink can to Nina, as if offering a toast, before storming out of the lab. Considering her opinion of Nina, that had been a relatively tame rant. It could've been much worse and likely would've been, if time wasn't of the essence. Guin made her way towards the room she shared with Marygold on occasion, having stashed her S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform and other gadgets there. It got a bit annoying to have to constantly take the things back and forth from NYC. The drive was starting to become more and more irritating by the day.

Heading into the room, Guin let out a bit of a huff. If it wasn't for S.H.I.E.L.D., Nina would've been rotting in a jail cell. She couldn't help but feel strongly about this, since it was a family matter. Her father would've felt the same way had someone done to her what Nina had done to him. Besides, it wasn't just anyone that made the Stark Industries 'Enemies List.' All individuals and companies that would have a reason to hurt either the company or a Stark was put on there. Most of the enemies had been made by Tony.

Changing quickly, Guin sat down on the bed for a moment, tempted to close her eyes and go to sleep. It was only morning and it already felt like it had been a long day.

Damon Fawkes

Damon watched Carolina stand after he hefted her up with ease. He noted the blushing, but had no idea why she was blushing. Was the situation that embarrassing? He had no idea and it was confusing to him. He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck at the thanks and shrugged in response, though his sleeve probably moved showing more of the dragon tattoo on his arm. A tattoo that was probably still coiling around him with an odd lively sort of energy. He was clearly not going to be saying much now. He pulled his hand away and tried not to look too awkward.

Damon gave a slight nod at the introduction. He inhaled and decided to introduce himself back...it was only polite. "Damon Fawkes" He looked at her hand before taking it and shaking it. He then released it and dropped the hand. He wondered how much social interaction he could handle. Probably not a ton today.

Ayita Dyrkin

Location Hanson Power Plant
{"Oh, my. Live prey."}

Ayita had not gone more than a handful of feet before her now alert senses caught sight of Oshea coming from the direction she was intending to head in. The shortest route away from this girl and people in general had turned into the route that was sure to have her run into people. The amber eyes woman bit back a snarl. Oshea was not deserving of that. She was merely on edge after having been startled, something she rather disliked.

Taking a glance back to see if that route was clear yet, noting Damon's lack of words. He wasn't one to talk much she had noted. Not to the level she was, but someone who wasn't so involved with incessant chatter of the school was nice to be around. Glancing at the speedster, she did wonder what he had to say. Her wound was definitely on the mend. Still it was scabbed over, bound up in bandages and healing secretly. Oshea, however, was slower than usual. The predator inside of her noted this, and saw a wounded bit of prey. Not to eat. She was sated, and had no desire for that. But to stalk, pounce and bat about. Slowly, she moved adjusting herself to more fully see and move towards Oshea. Her steps becoming a slink as she felt her body tense for the pounce. Ayita swore she had the phantom limb of a tail twitching back and forth. Watching Oshea with a oddly interested look, completely out of character for her.

Oshea Jackson

"Predator, prey--ain't no real difference when they both locked in a cage."

Location: Xavier's Mansion

A feeling always crept over him when he felt he was being watched. Most of the time it was just his paranoia, but he grew up around predators who knew how to thrive in broad daylight, those who stalked city streets with the most evil intentions dressed in modern lingo and deed: hustlers, boosters, drug dealers, pimps. The skin of Man and the skin of beast blend together too well. He approached the group with a steady pace, only to be swarmed by the same sensation as before; it grew stronger with each step until he saw whose eyes had been stalking him the whole time. Either Ayita was truly apex or he was beginning to lose his mind; how could he hardly manage to spot her though she was right in front of him? Maybe he was beginning to a step in more ways than he imagined before.

His thoughts tensed as he drew closer to the shifter; it didn't take him long to see what was present in her eyes--the Hunt. She was stalking him! It was no literal stalking of course, in his present state she could surely capture him if she wished; this was to be a strategic exchange. Oshea knew he could make no erroneous moves here and each word he chose had to be the right ones, or she would shut him out completely--and frankly, he was tired of everyone avoiding him for whatever reason. If all of Oshea's dalliance in books of war taught him anything, it was this: in dealing with the quietest of friends--or enemies--it was best to invite them in. The prey can lure the predator if it makes itself appear weak. He was excited, perhaps too excited, to engage in this game of tug-of-war he had been constructing in his mind.

How am I gone start? She look like she's starin' into my damn soul, bro.
"Start with the weather", his conscious replied to itself.
Lame shit. Need something she might be interested in.
"She hates everybody, son. She prolly ain't even got no interests." his conscious retorted once more,
You wildin', I got this; got suhn perfect.

"Ayita! Aye! You know, I never got to say thanks for savin' me an' all that. The wolf thing was nice, you know? You did real good out there--better than me, shit. Hah!"

Too light? Maybe too light. Try for somethin' more direct next time. Don't seem like she enjoy small talk.

Allison Andrews

Location: The Mansion
{"Here it goes.."}

Allison entered and scanned the room. She always felt a bit at peace here. Despite how powerful the Professor was, he always seemed to be calm and collected and made others feel the same. She couldn't figure out if it was due to his powers or just his presence, but either way it was impressive. She took a seat before him and waited a beat before she spoke.

"I guess I'm just...going through a bit right now. You know me, generally optimistic and fun, but I find it hard to be like that with the current threat looming over all of us. And on top of that, I can't help but continue to feel like I am not providing much for the team. I can't fight and my gifts are great, but the last mission kind of showed me I have a lot to learn. It's just..frutrating, I guess."

Nina van Essenhout

Location: The Mansion

While typical of Guinevere to be so short-sighted, Nina had expected better judgement from Marygold. It was dangerous to give trust too easily, especially to someone who had worked with the likes of Magneto. As for Guinevere's petty rant, it was ignored with a light tut of disapproval from Nina. Immature behaviour like this only solidified Nina's opinion of her - too young, and too inexperienced to be involved with dangerous groups like the X-Men and S.H.I.E.L.D. Not bothering with a comeback, she simply followed Cassandra to their shared room; not just to change, but to have a word with the far more mature woman.

"I hope you know I'm not saying all this just to start fights, Cassandra. The point had to be brought up by somebody eventually." She said as she entered the room behind Agent Reed. A small part of Nina had been bothered by her own crimes being brought up, but with Guinevere, one couldn't really expect much other than emotion-fuelled nonsense. Perhaps it was shame, more than anything, but Nina's shame at what had happened nearly a decade ago never really faded. Someone bringing it up an attempt to be bitchy wasn't really going to do much to make her feel worse than she already did.

Leaning against her dresser, Nina made eye contact with Cassandra. "She's letting her emotions get in the way. Not just about me, but about Pietro. We have to be ready for him to betray us, just as I would imagine - and hope - you and S.H.I.E.L.D are prepared as well in regards to me." Again, a spark of annoyance appeared within her at being compared to Pietro. Although both criminals, what he had done seemed just a tad more serious than data theft. "The fact that he saved your lives could be a double-bluff to gain more trust. Not to mention the fact that if he and his cronies weren't attacking the plant in the first place, it wouldn't have exploded." Turning now to the few belongings she kept in this room (mainly her mission clothing), Nina began to change.

Her get-up was durable, black, light-weight, and enough to put up with a good bit more damage than her regular clothes were. Kevlar here and there would protect her from bullets, because while her body was pretty tough, it wasn't exactly bullet-proof. An old scar on her shoulder was enough to ensure she remembered that.

"I know you and S.H.I.E.L.D likely have some plan for dealing with him if he goes rogue, but Guinevere and the others need to be at least dubious around him. While I hate to sound sulky, if I'm to be dis-trusted after a crime of theft nearly ten years ago, he certainly shouldn't be trusted after assault and terrorism after only a month." Charisma and likeability were undoubtedly good traits in a person, but when it came to things larger than oneself - such as, the whole of the human race at stake - these things should be put aside, and logic and trust had to be held in higher regard. That was Nina's opinion, anyway; seemed to make sense to her.

Finishing by tying her hair up into a tight bun, she clipped a knife to her belt. As of yet, Nina had had no training in firearms, but they weren't really her style anyway. If she gets close enough to a person, she didn't need a gun to incapacitate them.
