Written Description:
Sigurd wears the standard Shinra Troop uniform as depicted. His helmet has three different vision modes: infrared, night, and electromagnetic. The scarf about his neck is beige, and his uniform is mostly black with steel-colored shoulder pauldrons and knee pads. Out of uniform, Sigurd wears casual clothes such as jeans, T-shirts, jackets, etc. He is one of the handsome Shinra troops made even more popular by his performance during missions. He not only is an impressive trooper but an impressive roboguard pilot. [Reference: Pic]
Personality:
Sigurd has a boyish personality. He is confident in his skills, and if any commander ever ordered him to do something, he would get it done without question. Because of this high-speed spirit, he has made a reliable name for himself. Sigurd doesn’t ever feel like he needs to compete with the SOLDIERs because he brings a unique skill to the table that no SOLDIER can replicate and that comes with being a roboguard pilot. Sigurd’s favorite mecha is obviously his first one that he’s named, "Heavy Titan" after the Titan summon. Sigurd has yet to actually pilot the thing for there hasn’t been a situation to warrant the need for the Roboguard Units to be activated, but he eagerly awaits the day when he gets the opportunity. He has only piloted Heavy during countless hours of simulation exercises. Through simulation alone, he was deemed to be one of the top roboguard pilots in the unit. However, because he has yet to actually pilot a roboguard, this claim has yet to be proven as truth. Despite being a damn good Trooper, he often faces ridicule from the veteran pilots in the unit, and the toxicity hinders his ability to advance to an Elite Guardsman. While this frustrates Sigurd, he has learned to keep his feelings to himself. He can’t trust too many Troopers or SOLDIERs in Shinra. They just give him a bad feeling at times.
Because of the Shinra Mansion incident in his past, the option to join the SOLDIER project was presented to him on countless occasions and brought up on the lips of his peers. Overtime, Troopers from his unit opted into the SOLDIER project. Some made it and became 3rd Class SOLDIERs that he is still friends with today. Some weren't so lucky and died due to complications. Sigurd believes that he saw what the experimentation was like, and out of fear, refuses to opt into the project. Instead of revealing that fear is his excuse, he hides it behind arrogance. He has his unit believing that he is too good and arrogant to become a SOLDIER.
Besides his reputation, Sigurd is very down-to-earth. When he’s off-duty, after he cleans and cares for his weapons and equipment, and runs maintenance on his dormant roboguard, he goes out on the town to drink, party, and try to win gorgeous girls with the rest of the Troopers. He often gets into tough-guy matches with the SOLDIERs, and as much as he challenges them, and loses, he doesn’t ever feel inferior. When you’re this good without bio-engineering, huh, who needs Mako?

Background:
Sigurd was born and raised in Nibelheim, a small mountain village located at the base of Mt. Nibel across the river from Cosmo Canyon. His parents were Simon and Ashley Riot, commoners in the town that received frequent Shinra attention. During his childhood, Sigurd got to see several Shinra big-shots pass in and out of Nibelheim from President Shinra to the First Class SOLDIERs. He and his childhood buddies were influenced at an early age to join Shinra and become the best like the First Class SOLDIERs. One day, the boys had a dare to see who was the bravest. The dare was to see who could get the closest to the spooky Shinra Mansion. They had always seen strange folk going in and out of the manor. They even saw several people moved into the manor (after Kalm’s firebombing). The bravest boy was able to crawl through a hole they had dug beneath the wall at night that was protecting the property and sneak passed the guards to touch the very door of the manor itself—at least that was what he claimed he did before high-tailing it back to the group. When it was Sigurd’s turn, he was under major peer-pressure to outdo the other boy. Sigurd snuck onto the property and around the side of the mansion to one of the windows. He touched a window and made a motion to open it that he was originally hoping would fail when the window suddenly gave. To his fright, the window opened, and seeing no one inside, he boldly slipped inside.
The mansion was eerily empty, or so it seemed. There had to have been people inside, otherwise, why were there guards guarding the place? Instead of grabbing a worthless object from the house as proof he had won the dare, Sigurd’s curiosity led him further into the mansion. The memory to this day is fuzzy, but Sigurd remembered somehow gaining access to a lower floor, and when he reached it, he found people undergoing horrific experimentation. He was seen by Professor Hojo and the sight of the man had scared him into fleeing from the mansion. He returned to his friends with no proof of ever entering the mansion only the story of all he had seen. They called him a liar and a scaredy-cat. The boy who had entered the mansion before him was declared the winner. Regardless, Sigurd never forgot what he saw. It gave him nightmares for weeks, and he hoped to never see the spooky man again.
When Sigurd was old enough, he enlisted as a Shinra Trooper and was intelligent enough to test out and qualify for the Roboguard unit. While having yet to operate the roboguard he was trained for, Sigurd continues to perform exceptionally well as an infantryman.
