The bates stepped out onto the street in their human guises.

“So what are we going to do on this fine morning?”

Regina lifted a hand to her chin. “We're without work again.”

Elroy raised an eyebrow. “Daytime isn't exactly the most active time for magical girls, is it?”

“Perhaps not.” Regina folded her hands together. “But everyone in beacon has fake parents that expect good grades. Most of them will be attending or getting ready for school unless there's a crisis. I can only assume our vampire friend is nocturnal as well.”

“Heh!” Elroy chuckled “So we're intentionally keeping a lower profile now?”

Regina lowered her head. “Sounds like we're giving up doesn't it?” She looked up at Elroy. “Once we find someone who can mentor us about the magical world, someone who won't also try to control us. That's when our luck will turn around.” She turned to look around herself. There were still a lot of people going to work. The roads would start to clear up in a few hours “We could split up with a much lower risk of running into something we can't handle.”

“Split up huh?” Elroy kept on smiling. “We can try that. I don't want to be on the other side of the city though if something happens.”

“Don't worry, I've already taken the liability of sketching up patrol routes for us.” She handed Elroy the drawing pad she had been scribbling on earlier.

Elroy flipped through the notepad. “Seems like you also sketched up everyone we encountered yesterday.”

“I thought it could be useful given your... unique way of profiling people. A picture is worth a thousand words. I on the other hand should be able to pry whatever I need out of their minds.” Regina turned around to leave. “Let's meet back here in an hour. If you need to get a hold of me sooner, you can always follow my route in reverse.”

“Sure thing, boss.”

And with that, the two split up.

Seems they weren't quite ready to take Veronica's deal yet. Well, they made the metal Penny requested, and she got paid, so that was all she really cared about. Just because she wasn't on good terms with Beacon didn't mean she was going to get turned into a mint dog all of a sudden. She barked for fate and no one else.

Shannon would soon see and hear a familiar aura. It was one of the auras she felt on the day of the hospital attack. It was difficult to say where the entity creating this aura was coming from, but they were getting closer. One advantage to the open field Shannon sat in was that whatever it was, she would most certainly see it coming. Provided she didn't feel it moving across the earth.

A short time later, a handsome boy in casual cloths entered the empty field. Such a broad. The wind blew through the empty plain, tussling his hair about as the boy drew closer. His hands never came out of his pockets. One of the first things to come into focus was his smile, which bordered between sincere and sarcastic.

“Whoa!” Elroy stopped about ten feet away from Shannon. “I heard something about a buffet, I was not expecting haggard cosplay to come along with it.” While this individual seemed rude and a tad menacing, Shannon's instincts told her that he wasn't here to fight.

For a while there Shannon was thinking that no one would show up. Given all the commotion it wouldn't be that surprising since everyone seemed bent of fighting one another. But eventually she spotted someone in the distance. It looked to be a boy which was a bit more rare in the magical world. After a somewhat snarky comment the host rolled her eyes slightly.

Even if Elroy had been there to fight, Shannon wouldn't have given the boy a reason to assume she would fight back. Smiling she stood up and offered a hand to shake. "I'm glad someone came, I was beginning to think everyone was antisocial. Nice to meet you my name is Shannon."

Gesturing to the things she had gathered to eat. "Feel free to take what you like. I wish I could offer more but if I'm honest I don't have very deep pockets." She shrugged slightly and waited for Elroy's response. She didn't want to entirely talk over her guest.

"You can call me Elroy, scarf girl." Elroy picked up an apple in one hand and some candy in the other. He made no attempt to shake her hand and promptly started eating. "A shame about your money situation though." He sat down. "People are either providing materials or services. The two are attracted to each other you see. That's why maids are so rampant in rich people's home's in all those manga. They're providing a service for materials. And the young kid who inherited his father's mansion gets to hang around all those maids because even though he's a talentless emo wuss, he has the materials to sate them. The material here is money." He took a bite out of a Snickers in his other hand. "I guess what I'm saying is, I don't really understand what you want. You're not just out here to feed people, are you?"

The train station was in pretty sorry shape. Being told that there were flayed unicorns running rampant was one thing, but actually seeing herds of these creatures running about. They weren't small either. Each one was larger than a draft horse. As if to demonstrate their might, three of them pushed a train car off the tracks. It had been a while since Amber had encountered such strong monsters, and she was glad she was flying overhead. Anyone without wings was hopefully approaching from the rooftops. Amber doubted there were many magical girls who could survive being in the thick of so many beasts.

But Amber wasn't here to sight see, she had monsters to clean up. The pirate fired her cannon at one of the creatures. The cannon ball soundlessly whizzed through the air before burying itself half way inside a unicorn's back, causing it to stumble. It wasn't often Amber could hit a creature directly and not take it out. However, the unicorn was visibly hurt by the attack. Amber took aim again, this time leading her shot so that she could hit one of the demonic horses in a vital area. Her second shot bounced off the flayed unicorn's head. But not before caving in it's skull first. The horse promptly fell on it's side, where it disappeared under the rest of its herd. One down... under a hundred to go.

Amber was able to maintain altitude by careful use of her water magic. After a few shots, she would fire her cannon at the ground to produce some lift. The sheer force it left her cannon was enough to make her soar upwards. Her ability to maneuver with the wings alone was somewhat sloppy. They were sails grafted onto her costume, not true wings. Otherwise, this seemed like a relatively safe way to attack. The unicorns didn't seem to have any way to attack at range, so Amber was safe in the sky.

The pirate was getting a little close to the ground, and was ready to lift herself back up to a higher altitude. However, some of the flayed unicorns had taken an interest in Amber. With a mighty jump, one dove off the ground and threatened to pierce Amber's chest with its single horn. The pirate swerved to evade, but the massive body of the monster hit Amber's wing, causing her to spiral out of controll.

“May day! May day!” Amber shrieked, nearly losing her familiar on her way down. Her landing was less than graceful, skidding across a pair of steel rails. She was able to swiftly recover however, using her momentum to tumble to her feet. Every once in a while it was nice to be small. But now she was on the ground, and one of her wings were damaged. Just a short pirate surrounded by big, intimidating unicorns.

“Any ideas Amber?”

“Well...” Some of the unicorns slowed to a stop, cautiously inspecting the grounded pirate who had been firing on them. “Just one.”

“Really?”

“Yup.” She turned her back to the unicorns. “We run like we're being called for dinner!”

Helga whistled a happy tune; she was sweeping with a broom to clean up the deck of the airship. Since she couldn't be down there with Amber to assist her in fighting, she decided she would do her best at the home front; cleaning, cooking laundry, she would make sure Amber would return from her arduous work happy. "And then she will thank me for being so hardworking, give that cute smile of hers...maybe even give me a little kiss...Aaahhh~" She spoke to herself, not expecting anyone to hear high up above the city. "Wait, does that make me a, housewife? Well, I would need to be married first..."

”Well met, former scare. Thou art friend of Sea Scare, are thee not?” Helga could hear a voice. Where it was coming from was unclear, but she knew she was the one being spoken to. ”I am Boteg. Sea scare hath talk of me before. Methinks Sea Scare is in trouble, and mayhaps thou can help her?”

Helga's teeth chattered when she heard Boteg's intimidating voice, and clutched her broom.
"What? Amber's in danger?" She looked down to the city, and bit her lip. "But how can I help her? I can't transform anymore...I'm no longer a mag-uhhh, a 'scare'."

The dragon chuckled. ”Thou art only need a pact, aye? If thou art willing to serve me, thy power could be restored, and thou mayest become a scare again.” Even though Boteg wasn't in the room with her, Helga could feel the dragon's magic in the room with her. It was as if Boteg was already anticipating her answer. “What say thee, former scare?”

Helga pondered the Patron's words with puffy cheeks. Would she want to risk her life again? Is she ready to possibly face Justine, whom she betrayed. There was only one answer.
"Ok...what do I have to do?" Helga asked. "If it's for Amber, I'm willing to fight again!"

”If thou are willing to serve thy lady, thy consent is all me needs.”

As swift as the pirate was, her enemies were numerous. After a considerable about of running, she found herself cornered against a brick wall. Her broken sails wouldn't permit reliable flight, and her cannon could only ensure a kill on one of the flayed unicorns at a time. Her opponents were cautious, wary of her power but also understood she was cornered. They took slow steps towards her, ready to dive in when they were in range.

“This doesn't look good Amber.” Sue was looking around nervously.

“Well...” The pirate swung her cannon around. “If you get out of this mess, tell 'em Shining Scale went down with love on her face and a smile in her heart.”

“Isn't it-”

“Don't pester me!”

Amber's shout startled the unicorns into initiating an attack, on all three sides, they lowered their heads and attempted to skewer the pirate. It was a troublesome scene to be sure. A wall of horses and horns closing in on all sides.

Just when all seemed hopeless for the pirate girl, the evil equines brayed in pain. They fell to their sides, hit with a powerful blow. When the dust settled, Amber saw a familiar-looking girl; she couldn't mistake her big, silly grin. "Get your hooves off my Lady! Only I can penet-I mean, justice has been served, hee hee!"

“Heh heh!” Amber didn't know why she was laughing along, but it did help her regain her composure. “Boteg, you've got some explaining to do.” she said with a smile.

”In time, Sea scare.”

There was definitely more important things to worry about at the moment. There were still quite a few of those creatures running around. “Alright Helga, let's try to get to higher ground.” Amber and her companion circled around the train station to find a way up the building. The unicorns had proven that they could be quite athletic, but it was their large numbers that made them difficult to deal with.

Way to come on strong, Helga.

Welp, this was the the moment when Tonya was going to have to shift gears a little bit. While harassing Beacon was good and all, the bigger threat to fate was the completion of Justine's plan. The bloodicorns were clearly agents of father, and minnie would be showing up any second. It bothered Tonya a bit that she was going to have to help Beacon crush one of their adversaries, but even Tonya wasn't so dead against Beacon that she'd let Justine remove all love from the world... however that was suppose to work.

And because Tonya was in a particularly good mood, she'd help Amber avoid avoid getting pwned too bad, at least for now. While she was close to the end of her thread, there was still much she had to accomplish before kicking the bucket.

Well, how can we tempt fate today?

While she ran, Alicia was being watched from a distance. Her route was closely monitored. After all, no action could be taken while she was running in a relatively open area. But, at some point during her run to the train station, it became apparent that the quickest route was straight through a currently closed department store. The building itself was still open enough for a Magical Girl, just all the stores were closed behind metal roll-up doors closing them off with colorful signs above, her shoes probably echoing a bit as she ran through. In here, protected by the walls of the closed department store, this would be fine.

A portal suddenly opened, quickly widening from nothing at all to a two-meter diameter hole in reality in front of Alicia. It was a certain distance away, so she’d have time to stop and review the situation. With the assumption that she’d actually stop and not attempt to just run around, a girl would calmly step out of it. A somewhat tall girl, with white skin and very long straight white hair reaching her knees, a dark elaborate dress holding her body and an eyepatch covering her right eye. Her expression was blank, and with her right arm she was clutching a large stuffed bunny…

Behind her a much shorter, seven-and-a-half year old girl, whose hands were fluid-feathered wings and body seemingly entirely composed of black liquid with white color lighting up her face to simulate a face, eyes staring down at a notebook currently partly submerged in her right fluid wing. Clearly a monster-girl, a liquid harpy. Assuming Alicia hadn’t taken initiative by now, the portal to darkness they had come from would close, and Eli would start speaking while reading off her notes. Her voice sounded… defeated.

‘Name: Alicia Hayden. Affiliation: Beacon. Specialization: Light. The purifying light-specialization brings with it the side-effect that its user can tell if those they speak to are lying…’

‘… Meaning, you’ll know I’m telling the truth.’ Mariette finished, a certain triumph in her tone, her expression touched by a small smile as she looked at the girl in front of her.

‘Hello, Alicia. I am Mariette Pedersen. I wish to speak with you.’

Things were getting out of hand. Considering how many copies of herself she'd made recently, that was quite a statement. Shion's copy watched from a nearby alley as her original's would-be home base was overrun by... were those unicorns? She dashed behind a nearby dumpster as she pulled out a phone and typed up a message.

\\\There appear to be unicorns at the train station< They knocked over a train car< Apparent magical entity on site< Hiding and keeping visual< Proceed?<

Several seconds later another message appeared in the chat, made by the same account.

\\\Yes. Update at two minute intervals. Failure to update within five intervals will leave you considered KIA. Luck.

Shion's copy smiled faintly at her own sense of priorities. Sure, she was a disposable tool, but it felt nice to have definite proof that she trusted herself, a feeling that she hoped she'd get to transfer back tonight. She poked her head back out to watch the scene unfold.

Shion sat on the edge of the tallest building she had found so far, slowly drawing a map with the information her duplicates sent her. She hoped that she'd get to learn what they did in person but it always payed to be careful. The recent message about the train station bothered her, the tracks and constant traffic made it an ideal place for her to hide out at, but now monsters were ruining it. She was tempted to go there personally to get revenge but thought better of it. Instead, she sent a message to another nearby duplicate telling her to go investigate in case the one already there got hurt. She placed the map she was working on back into her pocket and laid back on the roof to wait for updates.

Another copy of hers was about to head back to her meeting place when she noticed an almost overpowering aura. Deciding to investigate, she started off in what she assumed was the direction of its origin. It took quite a few minutes of jogging and trial-and-error before she found where it seemed to be coming from. As soon as the two figures in the field became visible she stopped moving and dropped to the ground, trying to hide herself from them. She couldn't hear anything this far away, but that was less important than getting visual information at the moment. She zoomed in as far as she could with her phone and took a picture of them to send to her original self. She quickly read the posts she missed while searching before typing one of her own.

\\\Second magical entity on site< The two appear to be allies<
\\\Picture attached$ Have visual on train station$ No visual on other us$ Currently hidden on an eastern rooftop$ Will continue hiding and keeping visual$ Proceed?$

It didn't seem that she'd missed any directed at her.

\\\Picture attached% There's a strong magical presence nearby% It seems likely that it's from one of those two% Cannot confirm due to its area of effect% Avoiding approach and hiding% Planning to follow one if possible% Proceed?%

It took nearly a minute before the original Shion posted again.

Shion sat up as she looked at the pictures she'd just been sent. The train station was definitely out of the question as a base now. Even if the local magical girls were able to completely cover up the attack, it would almost certainly be either under surveillance or in repair for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, the two figures just outside of town were a source of interest, but her last three duplicates weren't close enough to send there.

\\\ "<" and "%" stay hidden and proceed. "$" move to the south side and send another picture from there. Send a new one every two minutes. Failure to do so for ten minutes will assume KIA. Luck to you three.

She hadn't even been in town for three days and it was already proving interesting.

Suwako Makiyoshi

When Suwako arrived at the train station, she had expected something far more horrible causing chaos than merely a bunch of unicorns. She felt kind of bad that she had to exterminate them.

Just a little though.

She drew her bow and began firing her arrows towards them. She made sure to keep them on their spot by binding their legs with her vines as well.

She wasn't the only one here though as she noticed another magical girl fighting them. A pirate magical girl to be exact, judging by her outfit. And she was a ranged type too, as she fired off cannonballs towards the unicorns. Unlike herself who maintaned altitude using her usual makeshift tree stump, she instead used her water magic, bouncing up and down with its force. There was also another one with her who seemed to be her partner.

Suddenly, however, the stump she stood on shook terribly, before actually snapping at the base, making the whole thing fall to the ground. It actually caught Suwako off guard, making her fall as well. However, she quickly reacted, first by summoning her loyal familiar Agape, turning him into his giant eagle form. She landed safely above him. And before the tree she once stood before could hit the ground, she commanded it to wither into dust, so that the buildings below wouldn't be harmed.

"Are you alright, Lady Suwako?" Agape asked her.

"I'm fine. Just a little surprised, that's all," Suwako replied. "I didn't expect the unicorns to actually destroy my tree. It seems they have both strength and brain inside that horse body of theirs."

Suwako then stood up above Agape. She preferred the staticness of her trees instead of moving around like this with the wind blowing heavily into her body. She had to root her feet into Agape so that she wouldn't fall off. Thankfully, the owl/giant eagle didn't mind that plants were growing on his skin.

Well, now with Agape, there was no way the unicorns would be able to reach her. And so she resumed her killing of the unicorns, raining down her arrows towards them. Usually, two or three would be enough to kill one. There were quite a lot of them however, so it would take some time.

Of course, as she did, she didn't forget about the other magical girl and her partner. They were on her side fighting off the unicorns for now but who knew which faction they were affiliated with.

In fact, she should just ask them now right away.

"Agape, chase after that other magical girl," she told her familiar. She would approach them with a neutral stance, with her bow withdrawn so that they wouldn't think she was attacking them.

For a while Shannon didn't know where Elroy was going with his spiel. Being called scarf girl didn't bother her much, she'd been called worse by worse. However once she knew what the boy was getting at she smiled. "Well the food is more a courtesy than anything. But if you want to get to the meat and potatoes then I want to talk. I got here when the hospital was under attack and I haven't really been able to contact anyone. Seems like everytime I turn around everyone is fighting one another."

"So yeah, I guess I'm here to make friends. There's something here threatening Penrose and we're better together." Putting her hands in her lap she nodded a bit. "I don't want to just drag the conversation around though so if you have anything you want to talk about feel free to take over."

Her attention was diverted for a moment. Something was moving around them at a distance. It could be an animal but they usually didn't circle. Putting a hand lightly on her staff sitting on the ground she tried identifying what was there.

Violet

Not a horse girl

Luck is a fickle mistress, even for those who are blessed with it in excess. Violet had been aimlessly wandering the past few hours, not really seeking much of anything just wanting some isolation as it were. She might have gotten all of Amber’s extroverted nature but even then she wanted to be alone from time to time.

Normally that was all well and good, but today her luck ended up with her running in to a herd of macabre unicorns. The upside however was she was already in costume as she had been traversing the city by roof, the downside was she was in she was in the ‘middle’ of the herd. She had already sent out her pulse to Sakura and was now in a dangerous dance with the dangerous beasts. Thankfully her blades, her flexibility and her exceptional luck had kept her relatively well off so far.

Off in the distance Violet heard the sounds of what she assumed was a cannon of some sort. And started making her way to where they originated from after all there is safety in numbers and her luck would only take her so far.

If Elroy noticed the stranger, he wasn't showing any signs of it.

“Make friends huh?” Elroy dropped his smile and remained silent for a few seconds. “Hmmm...” He set the candy back on the rock and used his free hand to scratch his chin. “Never met someone who just wanted to be friends. There's always some agenda involved.” The smile started to return to his face. “And what's this nonsense about 'dragging the conversation around' eh? That sounds like something a shy boy says to his date on prom night.” the boy laughed at his own joke. “But if you insist on letting me choose the topic to discuss, then how about employment?” he adjusted his glasses. “My sister and I are sort of on the run. We were watching the hospital brawl that you were talking about and we got attacked by a vampire girl and a maid. So we're interested in working for someone who can offer us some protection.” Elroy tossed the apple up and down without looking at it. “You'd like my sister. She likes you feeble types. And I'm sure with the two of us on your side you would have LOTS of friends! Seriously, Regina can be pretty convincing. I can say you won't have any enemies.” Elroy bit into his apple while he waited for a response.

Alicia Hayden @Flamelord and Mariette Pedersen @PlatinumSkink

Moving towards the train station. Alicia was mentally preparing herself for the fight ahead. There had not been any real indication as to what sorts of monsters they would be dealing with but that was fairly usual all things told. All she knew was that there were a lot of them, and that meant that it would most likely be a difficult fight any way. Luckily she was used to handling crowds.

Her path took her through a department store, though really she probably could have just jumped over the thing. But it wasn't that much more time wasted, and a few seconds likely wouldn't make a real difference.

It was when she was passing through though that she found her path interrupted, a portal opening up in front of her. That was too convenient to be coincidental, and she pulled to a halt to see who had made the portal and why. There was a small chance that it was unrelated and the user would just be on their way, but she found that unlikely.

As it turned out it was two people, one very gothic in appearance and the other clearly a monster girl, one of the more unusual kinds that she had seen. Her body tensed in preparation, though she refrained from her bow for the moment. They looked to be working together, and people like that tended to be bad news for the people they met.

Her gaze flickered between the two of them as the one read off some kind of fact sheet about her, the other taking apparent satisfaction in her magic specialization. “About what?” she asked after Mariette had introduced herself, indicating a desire to talk. She wasn't sure what the subject could be, but she was willing to see if it was legitimately important or not. If it was just a distraction then she could be on her way easily enough. For now though, she was willing to see what her mysterious visitor had to say.

Mariette did a satisfied little nod about that Alicia seemed willing to talk.

‘About Justine von Visceral, her actions against Beacon girls, my own involvement and about a specific girl called Janet Howell.’ Mariette kept the little smile, staring unflinchingly at Alicia, analyzing her reaction. Eli occasionally glanced up, but otherwise remained quiet looking at the notebook.

Unsure as to what she should expect, Alicia's attention was grabbed almost immediately by what Mariette said next. There was some worry about her claim to having been involved in this, though the fact she was here to talk about it either meant she had changed her mind or was about to make some kind of demand. Either way Alicia could not just walk away from it, not when they needed to learn about Justine, and about what had happened to Janet.

"I'm listening," she confirmed, waiting to hear what Mariette had to say.

Mariette looked pleased with her reaction, and began talking.

‘First, I have to admit something. Until very recently, I was working with Justine von Visceral. It wasn't an alliance, we just both had things the other needed. She made requests to me, I was rewarded for completing them. Now, I don't have anything against Beacon. I'm quite capable of simply staying out of your way, I don't really mind your ideologies or actions. I don't have a reason to commit any harm to you, normally. That said...’ Mariette stopped smiling and looked at Alicia seriously.

‘I was the one who kidnapped Janet Howell, on Justine's command. The reward... was worth it.’ She paused momentarily, to ensure she wasn't about to be shot through with this admission.

Alicia grit her teeth, fists clenching as Mariette revealed that she had been involved in Janet's kidnapping. Her brain screamed at her to attack, to haul her before the Beacon to answer for her crimes, and no one would have faulted her for that. As her powers confirmed, the girl was telling the truth. But the fact that she was here now, saying this, as well as her vow kept her in check. For now anyway, and she was silent as the girl went on.

‘She wasn't the only one I kidnapped, either. I kidnapped a whole slew of Magical Girls for her. As for what she does with them, I suspect Stephanie was her work and something similar may be awaiting them. If she's not simply feeding them to her little sister.’ Mariette continued, now serious.

‘I...’ Eli sighed a bit, as she mustered the power to talk. ‘I have the complete list right here, of all those we kidnapped, and their details...’ She said, still in her defeated tone, the liquid harpy lifting the wing in which the notebook was partly submerged.

This just kept getting better and better, at least from Alicia's perspective. Little sister? The Beckoners had not said anything about that. Perhaps they didn't know, or this was a different person after all. The fact that they had a list of everyone who had been kidnapped was very useful, but also a powerful bargaining chip for the duo who currently held onto it.

She had the feeling that she knew where this was going. “What do you want for it?” she asked, mistrust clear even if she knew that they weren't necessarily lying. But from what she had said it was clear that this would not be some kind of free handout. She clearly wasn't here out of the goodness of her heart.

Eli blinked a little in surprise, while Mariette once again gave the slightest of a smirk. She used Absolute Direction, and the fact they were in a department store meant what she was looking for wasn't far off. A small portal opened by Mariette's hand, which then went through and retrieved an unused notebook from a shelf in a nearby store before then closing the portal again. Mariette then handed the notebook over to Eli, who looked a little confused.

‘Start writing a copy.’ She commanded her underling.

‘Y-yes, mistress.’ Eli confirmed, grabbing the new notebook and taking out a pen, before turning to kneel down onto the floor opening her own book and starting to write a copy. Of course, that'd take a while. Mariette kept the little smile towards Alicia.

‘If we come to an agreement, I'll give you the copy as a gift of good faith.’ Mariette stated, then waited a couple of moments to see if Alicia had anything more to say.

"I see, that's very generous of you," Alicia noted as they began working on a copy. It was too bad that it wasn't the original, but she supposed that that might be a bit much to ask. "Is that everything you wanted to say to me? The list by itself isn't all that useful, considering what you've presented me with so far." It didn't exactly bring her any closer to finding Janet or the others after all.

Mariette stopped smiling, turning serious once again. ‘No. That was just describing the scenario.’ Mariette clutched her bunny a bit harder as she breathed in, and then continued.

‘While I benefited from the cooperation with Justine, I have no desire to see her goals of turning this world into a "pure" one come to fruition, whatever that might mean. Our goals do not seem to align. In fact, I consider it likely she wants me dead now that she no longer has need of me, both because of what I know and that a monopoly on dimension-travelling powers among Magical Girls would be highly advantageous to her. What I'm saying is...’ Mariette smirked again, her tone regaining the playful touch.

‘... I'm far more reasonable than Justine is. I have no particular intention of harming this world or the inhabitants of it, while Justine von Visceral may be about to wipe it clean. At the same time, you need the abilities that either I or Justine command to reach her base of operations. And with your powers, Alicia Hayden, you should know that all I've said I consider to be the truth.’ Mariette smirked a little wider, looking sharply at Alicia.

‘So. Your thoughts, chosen of Beacon?’ She finally asked, assuming her point to have been made obvious.

There was something about this that Alicia couldn't help but just find repugnant on an instinctual level. Of course, the two of them cooperated until one no longer needed the other. Then there had probably been some kind of betrayal that was the reason Mariette was here now. It was probably a given that she was just hoping to use Beacon for her own agenda, against Justine.

The most frustrating part was that she was right, and they couldn't do anything about it.

Asked about her thoughts, Alicia did have a bit to say to the other girl. “That's correct, you do seem to be telling the truth. I just find it unfortunate that it was apparently only worth selling her out after she had everything that she needed, when it will be that much harder to stop whatever she has planned.” But of course, that would have stopped Mariette from getting whatever she got out of the deal.

A sigh escaped before she went on. “Still, I'm willing to hear whatever agreement you have in mind, though I won't be able to agree to anything without consulting with the Beckoners first.”

Mariette made a little amused exhale of breath at the "unfortunate" part. That'd do.

‘I'm willing to ferry your crusade. Justine von Visceral said something about being ready, so action may be needed very soon, and I'm willing to make sure the troops of justice are always where they'll be needed. You might find the ability to step through a portal to the other side of the city almost instantaneously to be... quite useful. That, and when the time comes to lay seige to Justine's fortress, I'm willing to lead the way. All I need in return is a promise I won't be killed, and that you bite back your distaste of cooperating with the agent of a Horror in order to defeat the currently greater threat. That doesn't sound too unreasonable, now, does it? We both benefit from her removal and with this you can potentially rescue the captives, so there should be no reason we cannot cooperate.’ Mariette gave her little smirk again, before it vanished to her more focused expression.

‘Of course, I know you cannot make those calls. However, you'll be able to forward my suggestion knowing I've told the truth. They'll trust your word far better than mine.’ She finishes, standing where she was, while Eli's still scribbling into the copy-notebook on the floor on the side.

Alicia was not surprised by the expressed willingness, since she had basically said as much already. It would be hard to stop this particular plan if they couldn't get there after all, though she still held to a belief that they would have managed it on their own anyway. There were a lot of girls in Beacon so someone had to have a similar power, right? …..Unless they had been kidnapped already.

“I'll let them know,” Alicia said after a few moments. They'd already made an exception for monster girls, though she wasn't sure if Mariette knew about that, so if they really needed to she supposed they could make an exception for a Horror as well. The only real question would be making sure that the entire thing was not just them being used as a tool for someone else's agenda. That was not how Beacon operated.

For now though she waited for that copy to be finished. “But yes, at this point defeating Justine does seem to be the more pressing issue. Though why did you come to us? Because we have more bodies to throw at our problem?”

Mariette turned and stared down at Eli a bit before answering, the harpy rather desperately looking back and forth between the two notebooks and writing. While she knew a lot by heart, she had to ensure that she wasn't forgetting something and that it was readable...!

‘Partly.’ Mariette answered. ‘But it is also that you have something other Magical Girls lack, something Justine killed Victoria Reales for trying to establish. You have organization, focus and order. All very useful when trying to fight a war.’ Mariette turned to Alicia once again as she said.

Well, Alicia supposed that that also made sense, though this being called a war did not exactly bode well when it came down to it. This whole thing was to prevent the war before it happened, right? Or perhaps there was yet more going on that Mariette had decided she did not need to know. If that was the case then Beacon would have to stay on their toes. "I suppose you have a point there."

Mariette nodded, and then went on to the next order of business.

‘Now, in order to establish contact with me...’ Mariette suppressed a smile of slightly childish joy. She was going to finally have a...!

Absolute Direction. She found one swiftly in one of the nearby hardware store. She turned her free hand (one not clutching a stuffed bunny) to hold its palm upwards, and a portal opened above. Down fell a cell phone from a shelf, and Mariette grabbed it while maintaining a little smile. ‘I do not usually carry means which to contact me, but I'll make an exception for this agreement. Allow me to just find out what number is connected to this phone...’ With a bit of childish excitement, she pressed on the phone...

‘Er, mistress?’ Eli looked up as Mariette got an inconvenienced expression when she likely either ran into a code-screen or maybe phones in stores aren't charged, or something. ‘I-it doesn't work like that. You buy a phone along with a, um...’ Eli couldn't use "cellphone subscription". ‘... A number that is linked to the phone first after it's bought. The phone on its own is useless. The number is bound to the person and identity, put in a list phone-companies have, and is kept even when the person switches phones...’ Eli explained, though she wasn't an expert on this either.

Mariette held a blank face of thorough displeasure. She held the phone out on the side, dropped it into a portal, and then the impact of a cell-phone hitting the bottom could be heard from a nearby trash-can. Mariette then slowly turned to glare at Alicia.

‘... I'll come find you again at a later time.’ She said, unable to hide her displeasure from her voice.

What came next was unexpected though, and slightly amusing. She wasn't sure what she had thought would happen as the portal appeared, only for a cell phone to fall through it. That glee Mariette displayed was almost cute, if it were not for all the facts that otherwise surrounded the girl.

The experiment seemed to end in failure, leaving Alicia to look at the duo in confusion. "Why don't you just get a burner phone?" she asked then. Sure, it wasn't as fancy as having a regular phone but if you just wanted to call people then it would suffice (She didn't use one, but had heard other Beacon girls talking about them before. Apparently they were big in some tv show.)

‘Burner... phone...?’ Mariette asked, frowning and clearly not knowing what it was. She turned to glare at Eli, and the harpy could but flinch and raise her wings in the common gesture "I have no idea!", before going back to copying one notebook to the other. Mariette frowned more, and turned her glare back at Alicia with her one visible eye. ‘... Where would I get a...’ She started, but then stopped what she was asking. Being belittled by her lack of knowledge was not part of the current plan.

‘Very well. Obtain a burner phone for me. I will seek you out after you have had a chance to converse with Beacon about my proposition. I will not show up somewhere where I might be ambushed by others of your organization. In how long should I reappear?’ Mariette asked, before turning somewhat, indicating that she felt she had said most of what she needed and would rather be on her way now. Meaning if Alicia had anything else to say, then she probably should say it now.

Eli was frantically trying to get the pages written down, realizing from her mistress' motions she didn't have much longer. Mariette's recent spot of annoyance had taken a serious toll on her patience.

The confusion provided Alicia all the answer that she needed as to whether they had considered that or not. “Yeah, it's a kind of prepaid phone, so you have a certain amount of minutes already loaded onto it. Then once it runs out you just dump the phone and get a new one when it runs out. It was big in a tv show recently...” she trailed off into muttering, trying to remember what it was.

Somehow it ended up becoming her responsibility to get Mariette a phone, which she ceded to with a sigh. She'd see if Beacon would shell out for it, since they weren't that expensive. “In a couple hours, I'd say in the afternoon,” she replied when asked about time. “I assume you'll find me?”

Mariette listened to the explanation of what a "burner phone" was, and nodded slightly. Then, the matter of finding Alicia...

‘As long as you don't vacate this dimension, finding you is a simple matter.’ Mariette assured her, before turning around away from her. A wide portal opened again, though this time under her feet. She was standing on a different floor somewhere else, for the portal was pressed against the floor on the other side.

‘Done!’ Eli gasped out and jumped back onto the floor covered by the portal next to her mistress, leaving the copied notebook on the floor, breathing out a bit as she looked towards Mariette and then to Alicia, slowly calming down after panicking.

‘... Oh. But one more thing.’ Mariette noted, turning around once again to face Alicia. ‘During our deal, it turned out that Justine had an ace in the shape of a Magical Girl in her service, in case she ever needed to neutralize me. Although I can ferry you around, I cannot join you in battle. For as long as Sonia stands by Justine's side, I cannot touch them. So, if you ever see the girl called Sonia...’ Mariette gave the slightest of a smirk. ‘... Removing her from the picture may be to your advantage.’ She's simply going to comment.

That was about what Alicia had expected so she was not going to make a big deal of it as Mariette said that she would find her rather than them having to arrange a meeting spot where they could confer on what the results of the discussion were.

As the girl prepared to leave Alicia stepped over and picked up the notebook, glancing through it to make sure that Eli had indeed made a good effort of copying everything down. It seemed like it, and she closed the notebook and held onto it as she turned to watch the strange girl depart for wherever she was going next.

"I'll keep that in mind," she replied with a nod. Not that she guaranteed she would go around trying to kill people simply because it benefitted Mariette. She still had the feeling that Mariette was just using them like she had tried to use Justine, and if they could avoid blindly going along with her agenda then she would be much happier. They would just have to see what happened.

Mariette was satisfied with that. She was just about to leave, considering what to do next, when another thought struck her. After a moment's consideration, she voiced it.

‘There was a girl that wanted me to help her go talk to or stop Justine, Lily Hanson. I declined her at the time because I had no reason to help her, but maybe I'll just send her to you if I'm helping against Justine anyway.’ She's wait for a reply to that, but was definitely in the mood to get going.

Alicia's gaze narrowed, the name familiar. That was the one who had been talking to Penny before, wasn't it? She had wanted to speak to her anyway, so what a fortuitous coincidence that this was how things had turned out. Though she also found it a bit frustrating that once again it was people outside of Beacon who were proving so much more successful at getting to the bottom of this and solving the problem than Beacon itself was.

"Please do," she replied simply, allowing Mariette to be on her way. She was going to have a busy day, it seemed.

‘Very well.’ Mariette acknowledged. ‘For now.’ She made a small, abstract wave, and then to Alicia's eyes Mariette and Eli sunk into the floor before the portal closed. What actually happened was that Mariette lifted the portal on the other side with her powers, extending the distance from the floor Mariette was actually standing on to the other side, giving the impression she was sinking into the floor. Regardless, the effect was the same. Shortly, Alicia stood alone in the department store, Mariette having completely disappeared.

Alicia looked around as Mariette vanished, making sure there weren't any other surprises waiting in the wings before she did anything else. After a moment she sighed, releasing a breath she did not know that she had been holding with Mariette's presence gone. Tension unwound, and she was back to her confident self once again.

Holding on to the notebook, she was quick to resume her journey to the train station. She'd handle this first and then let the Beckoners know about this meeting. Hopefully the monster attack was under control by the time she got there, but there was only one way to find out. With how busy things were shaping up to be, she certainly hoped so.

Janet and Justine von Visceral
@Ariamis

When Janet awoke, she found that she was chained to a wooden crucifix in a dimly lit stone chamber, her arms spread to her sides and feet tied up to the central column. She was wearing a stylish black dress that accentuated her form in a risque manner with the top of the dress extended with a fishnet layer, yet also had cute accessories such as red bows on her skirt and a frilled choker around her neck. Janet soon realized she was in a castle dungeon of sorts, with cells in the hallways around her, and what looked like a standing coffin at the far corner of the hall. It was stylish, with a symbol of a heart with bat wings adorned on it's lid.

Then, the coffin moved in it's place, and Janet witnessed as the lid fell down, revealing Justine von Visceral; she was sleeping with her arms crossed until her eyes opened, and she gave a wicked smile.
"Aah, Janet, you have woken at last. I have looked forward to spending time with you...privately," she spoke in a sultry tone as she stepped out of the coffin, and slowly walked towards her.

Having finally got her barings Janet tried to get free herself from the bonds but that seemed to be a fruitless endevor. Still gagged she was unable to transform to make use of her magic. What did this girl want with her of all people? Forced to watch she glared and hoped to gain a little more information as Justine continued.

Justine gave a little giggle.
"Oh ho, resisting until the end: as expected of a Beacon. Brilliant light that beckons for the true path...Well, I know of something far better."
She went right up to Janet, and placed a hand over her cheek, gently caressing it.

"You see, I require someone who knows how the Beacon works, knows where they scheme and plot. Not only do you fit that description, but this presence...You are a pure magical girl. You don't blindly follow Beacon, do you? I can see it in your eyes: you know how cruel and unforgiving Beacon can be. How it treats you like a dog without caring how you feel. But we will change that. Yes, the two of us can change the world..."

Justine looked deep into Janet's eyes, and she felt like her vision was turning blurry, as if a bloom filter was placed over her eyes. Whatever the magic was, it was slowly starting to affect Janet's consciousness, her charismatic voice ringing in her head and her touch on her cheek burning like fire.

"You want to serve me, your dear, precious Mistress...You want to devote your entirety to your Lady..." Her touch began to flow with dark magic that swirled around the two. Black bubbles also floated around them, giving the scene a romantic, if horrifying, atmosphere.

Despite the disorienting effect that Justine's magic had, the Spark given to Janet by the Beacon came to life as she focused on resisting the influence. Even though she at times had disagreements with how the Beacon did things it was clear to her that Justine's intensions were less than pure. Contact alone made that clear enough. Janet's defenses were not quite equiped for the influx of dark magic. The two magics warred for supremacy. The lone light in the darkness was close to being snuffed out.

"Just give in to it, Janet...There is no need to be afraid of the dark, for it gives clarity, and peace..."

Justine sensually whispered to her ear, her lips creeping closer and closer to her neck, causing her to feel the vampiric girl's breath. She was patient, and willing to slowly break down the Spark over a long period of time, like she did with Stephanie when she was turned into her loyal little suicide bomber. But, Justine learned from her experiences, and was prepared; the dress Janet was put to wear was drenched in corrupting magic, isolating the Beacon's influence from her and making her vulnerable to her temptation.

She looked as Janet's struggle weakened, and then her lips parted to reveal two sharp teeth.
"Become mine, Janet~"
In that tender moment, she seductively bit into Janet's neck, like a lover's kiss; she felt a faint, dull pain of her vampiric fangs piercing her, followed by her corrupting magic seeping into her until it enveloped her whole being.

Already losing, and having been weakened and isolated for however long she'd been out, Janet's constitution folded. The corrupting magic consumed her and Justine's suggestions took root. Her mind was like an open book to be rewritten and the magic flooding in could do what it willed. Going limp Janet stared blankly and uttered the faintest whisper. "...Y-yes...my...Lady."

"That's right...Your Lady is right here, granting you sanctuary..." She quietly spoke as she stepped back, and with a handkerchief daintily wiped her lips.
"Now then, let us unleash your potential, Janet! Release your feelings hidden in your heart, and take your true form!"

She lifted her arms, and dark magic coalesced in her palms into orbs, followed by her directing the magic into her, like a beam of darkness. Showered in the umbral magic, she then began to transform.

No longer resisting Janet gladly complied and accepted the magic directed toward her. It was more than her ordinary magical girl form could take and as more flowed in her body began to shake and quiver. Her body seeming to lose structure and collapse she slipped from her bonds and fell to the floor. Even though she didn't fight the changes the process was still rather intense and painful. The dark magic was destroying her body. Crying in pain and writhing on the floor she began to transform. Her flesh was melting, transitioning into water from head to toe. Though perhaps toe wouldn't be right. Janet's legs were losing form, dividing and becoming tentacles. Over her head a bell of water began to form. The imagry her transformation implied before had become her new form as a full monster girl.

Breathing heavilly from the transformation Janet inspected what had come of her. after a few moments a smile spread across her face. The red of her iris contrasted the pure blue of her body and looked wild and crazy. Lifting herself up she turned to Justine and bowed slightly. "Thank you, thank you my Lady! I cannot repay you enough for freeing me from the clutches of The Beacon." Though she just bowed she dropped down and clutched Justine's hand tightly.

Justine smiled widely upon seeing her new servant rise, the mark of Visceral shining brightly red on her chest, forever claimed as Justine's.
"Yes..You are perfect. Simply perfect! Haha...Ha haha..Ooohhohhooohoooo!" She laughed while holding the back of her hand to her mouth.

Elated that Justine was so pleased with the results of her corruption Janet shivered with excitement. "What will you have me do my Lady?" Her eyes flashed with a wicked gleam. She could not wait to fulfill her Mistress' plans.

"All in due time, Janet. All in due time..." Justine spoke, and turned around, stepping confidently away. Beneath the graceful composure of a noble lady lied the most vicious smile, her fangs bared as she held back another bout of laughter.
This will be the beginning to a pure world...

‘…’ Mariette and Eli stood in an abandoned apartment. They had pretty good check of which apartments they could randomly enter by now in Penrose. This one would be sold and bought in a few days, but until then, they could use it for short stops. But, right now, the apartment was unimportant.

‘Was that… wise, mistress?’ Eli asked, the liquid harpy standing by her side.

‘What?’ Mariette asked, her tone strict and with no nonsense.

‘We just admitted our sins to Beacon. We’ll be on their list now. And they have a list of all the girls we’ve captured, which they can give to their loved ones, and they’ll know we did it…’ Eli continued, her tone a bit unsure.

‘If Justine can brainwash them, it is to our advantage that the world knows who not to trust. Each girl on that list is a potential enemy. By giving them the list, we remove one of Justine’s advantages. Her soldiers will be known.’ Mariette tells, explaining her logic.

‘… Very well, mistress.’ That was all Eli could answer with. … This would have been when Deni came with some upbeat comment that Eli could then continue with, and there would have been a sense of fun. Now… there was none of that.

‘Now, I have to ensure I actually have the abilities that I’m selling.’ Mariette said, focusing. … Though, at the very least, Mariette was talking more now, Eli thought.

Suddenly the whole apartment bent. First the walls and themselves bent inwards to a point, and then the world changed and the walls were spat back out, looking exactly the same as before, but outside, all the sounds had stopped. Going further and further away from the apartment, one would find that the city became less and less detailed, until finally everything would turn out… a bit odd. That would be the Sprawl. A place you shouldn’t visit, a place you shouldn’t wander or you might not be able to find your way back to your home dimension. That is, unless you’re the agent of a dimensional horror, like Mariette.

The ability she had used was Overcity Shift, banishing a section of space into the Overcity. This was normally to be used to seal a target in a world where they could not escape, or to have a dramatic battle somewhere where unrelated would not be affected and the damage would not be seen after they had finished. In the “real world”, the apartment remained as it was, with the small hard-to-detect dot of a wormhole in the middle which was the Overcity entrance to this space.

There are other exceptions than herself, and all places in the Overcity wasn't entirely deserted, but there would be no way for Mariette to know until she actually went there. If she suddenly ran into something unexpected, her following reaction might differ, but assuming nothing happens, the following happens.

If Lily Hanson was to be believed, the castle of Justine von Visceral lay within the Overcity. Now, Mariette was in the Overcity. This… was merely a check. “Could I find it?”

Mariette walked over to the window, gazing out into the city, across the limit of the Sprawl. It would be… beyond it, wouldn’t it?

Absolute Direction. Firstly, checked for belongings of the captives. Georgia’s weapon, or clothes if she was untransformed. Other such belongings she knew those she captured had. If that turned out unsuccessful, then perhaps looking for Minnie’s revolver. Other such possessions she remembered on Justine’s servants. Or, if all else failed, just look directly for Justine. The key was if several of the things she was looking for was in the same direction, if she could feel them in here or all.

If she could confirm that she knew where to look with Absolute Direction, that would be it. Her business here would be done. She wouldn’t actually try going there. But… she wanted to confirm that she could if she wanted to.

Alicia Hayden

Holing on carefully to the notebook that she had received from her encounter, Alicia found that there were no more interruptions on her journey to the train station. She had plenty to focus on, but now she could focus on the monster problem that they currently had.

Arriving, she winced at the devastation that she found there. There was some sort of horde of demonic horses rampaging about and causing mass destruction. As she had expected though here were already girls dealing with the problem, though they were fairly uncoordinated in doing so.

Well, it was better than nothing.

"Time to get to work," she said to herself with a nod as she came to a stop on one of the awnings directly above one of the platforms. A nod was given towards the nearby girls who might be aware of hr presence before she summoned her bow. "Star Seraph, blaze!" Mana flowed into the bow as arrows of light formed. She nocked the bow, arms raised as she pointed it into the sky. Like at the hospital glyphs of burning light formed in the air, presumably visible to those nearby. She wasn't sure if the horde saw, but at the moment she did not care.

After a moment she nodded to herself, and released. The arrows rose before being caught in the glyph where they were magnified by the magic therein. It created a veritable storm of arrows that would fly down into the attacking horses and hopefully thin their numbers a bit. She knew where her specialization was, and she would put it to good use.

Scout Winters, Lily Lightning,
Alexander Shields , Anaya Hathaway

(@Majoras End@Ariamis @Card Captor)

"Dont worry bout my ability, I always save some mana incase I gotta heal someone." Scout reasured Suwako, calling her familiar back to her shoulder. "Anyways, you go on ahead. Ill see you later, Suwako. Maybe." She said, walking back to her motorcycle and driving back to the main road.

The next day, Scout had chosen an apartment to stay in, and was driving to a nearby clothes store.

Something's up. Maura suddenly spoke up, suprising the young witch. What now? I just got here and already I got caught up in a fight, so please tell me its just normal monsters.. She internally sighed, but perked up when the lesser force had explained about the train station attack going on. Revving up her vehicle, Scout went off course and through the quickest route set on the motorcycle's GPS.

Unbeknownst to Scout, another magical girl was also driving through the city on a motorcycle; Lily Lightning, with Alexander Shields as a passenger behind her. She zoomed through a traffic jam with skill, slipping through the cracks with a couple of hops, and was soon off.
"Seems like a lot of people relied on public transport to get here," Lily mused to herself. She saw a mysterious girl driving towards the train station too, a lot faster than was the speed limit; Lily smirked. "I'll show you who's the real speedster around these parts!" She shouted, and sped up, approaching her from the side.

"Please don't" Alexander groaned

"Hi there! Nice day to go all out, right?" She waved to the girl with both hands as the motorcycle turned and adjusted speed without her input; Ixion was fully capable of driving on his own.

"Huh- WHOA." Scout looked over at the duo to see their cycle driving it's self. Yep. Definitely another magical girl. she thought before looking over to Lily. "Yeah! It's a lovely day to maybe take a train, per say?" Scout replied, tilting her head to the side in curiosity.

Lily smirked; after she had encountered magical girls hidden in public, she began to develop an eye for unusual behavior common to them. Reckless driving was one of them, and she was guilty of it as well, not that she cared.
"I wouldn't go there unless you got magic powers or something with all the monsters running around! I know, cause I'm a magical girl! You wouldn't happen to be one?" She giggled, and made a hand sign to make a pit stop at a secluded point, like an alley.

"Haha, isnt that ironic, cause thats why im heading over there!" Scout chuckled as she slowed down to go behind Lily's motorcycle. "But I digress, if ya wanna really know if I am a magical girl, then lead the way."

"Ok, but don't blame me for going too fast!" Lily shouted, and laughed as she accelerated. It didn't take long for them to reach the vicinity of the train station, where one magical girl was already engaging the bloodicorns; unicorns with flayed skins, crimson red with sharp horns and meaner attitudes.
Lily made her motorcycle jump, and then leapt off it to land on a wall, running up it to a nearby rooftop; if she could follow her there in a fast time, she would know she meant business.

"Gah! Dammit woman, can you drive like a normal person!?" Alexander yelled "try to keep your passengers in mind before pulling stunts like that! I could have just made a ramp up their with my magic!"

"HA! Wouldnt count on it!" Scout could already tell she was gonna like the energetic magical girl, as she herself quickly floored the gas pump to catch up with the duo. "Theresa, can you fly ahead to the train station? Ill catch up!" She asked the familiar flying beside her. She could tell that the owl nodded as they flew away and ahead of the witch. Once she arrived at the station, Scout mimicked Lily and slowed down beside the second motorcycle. "Yo." She said, lightly waving till her atention was turned to the monsters. "Would you look at that..edgy unicorns.."

Lily waved and bounced in place, smiling widely.
"Wow, aren't you a slowpoke! Just kidding, you're actually quite good!" She looked towards where th girl pointed, and saw the monsters.
"Geez, those are gonna leave a big mess behind. Looks like it's up to us to clean up!" She flexed her skinny noodle arm, and placed her other arm over it.
"But before that, I'd like to introduce myself! Name's Lily Lightning! And that boy over there is Alex! We fight together."

As if on cue, Theresa returned to Scout and landed on the girl's head. "Neat. Call me Scout! The owl resting on my head is my familiar, Theresa." She said, with her familiar taking a bow.

"It's actually Alexander" Alexander corrected "but Lily insists on just calling me Alex, and it'd be too much trouble to get her to stop, so I put up with it." Quickly placing a forcefield on Scout (and Theresa too, for good measure) he put a bit of distence between him and the girl. Once he was far enough away, he made a five layer barrior around himself and summoned two clones. Since he had already put up forcefields on himself and Lily (because he knew how Lily drove), he was able to skip that step, and pump magic into his two clones so that they could boost Lily.

"What's wrong with Alex, Alex?!" Lily asked, a bit ditzy. She pouted when the magical boy ran off.
"Geez, he always does this! Oh well, I'll bop him for it later."
She turned towards the other magical girl with a flick of her heel.
"Anyway, I'm glad you're here to help, Scout! Haven't seen you here before, so you must be from outside Penrose. Did all the drama here draw you in?" She summoned her bow in a flashy manner; catching a small bolt of lightning that struck from the blue sky, and made a pose with it.
"My Little Pony, you ain't a cutie!" She joked, and began shooting at them.

"In a way, yeah." Scout replied, walking to the edge of the rooftop in a crouching position. "Things were settled back at North Dakoda, so I didnt have alot to do when it envolved monsters and such." She aimed at one of the bloodicorns and shot at it's head. "Then one day, my patron, Maura Natalie, got info about a rogue magical girl and the abundance of monsters here. So I took a quick plane ride to a nearby town and rode the rest of the way here." Scout sighed as she reloaded her rifle. "And she wasnt kidding. Five minutes here and I already got into a fight with..I dont know, six other magical girls and a demon gorilla?" She said, continuing to shoot at the monsters.

"Yep, sounds like Penrose alright." Alexander snorted as his clones began boosting Lily "I've never been magicly active anywhere else but here, but I've heard a lot of people talk about how things get crazy in Penrose. Hell, I'm not sure how magic is still secret anymore. Not to long ago, there was a fight on the roof of a hospital! A fucking hospital. At this point, it stops being impressive that people can cover this shit up, and gets into scary territory."

"Wow, sounds risky." Scout said, looking over at Alex with concern. "Please tell me it was an abandoned hopsital, more or less closed."

"It didn't look abandoned. That whole fight was a mess; a crazy bitch tried to punch a hole in my chest, and some Beacon zelot tried to kill Lily, just because her berserk form gives her some monster looking traits" Alexander grumbled "on second thought; maybe saying she was trying to kill her is a bit much. She did, however, seem willing to let her die."

"Yeah, it was terrible of them to do that!"Lily replied as she launched another barrage of arrows into the herd of bloodmares.
"The Beacon are bullies who pick on anyone who's not in their clique. They even hunt girls with fluffy ears! Can you believe that! Sorry, I'm still angry about that. But yeah, lots of crazy girls here. Try to watch your back here; they might come after you too."

"Noted. My patron doesnt trust Beacon anyways." Scout responded, activating her focused assault ability to shoot one of the bloodmares dead. "Yes! Got one!" She exclaimed with a quick fist-pump.

"By the way; where did these things come from? Normally, monsters just seem to be wandering around aimlessly, attacking whatever they find. This however, seems far more organised. Not only is the train station a pretty important place, but they came with a shockingly large force." Alexander shook his head "This can't just be another random monster attack. Somebody planed this. But why?"

"It's just like at the hospital, so it must mean-AAAHH!" Lily ducked down as a red streak quickly swept past her. She looked up, and her eyes widened; it was a bloodmare, flying on bat wings. Soon, it was joined by others of its ilk, forming a murder of them.
"Hey, that's cheating!" She cried out, and and transformed her weapon into a staff. She then began casting magic, hurling lightning bolts at the evil equines.

"Wait what- OH SWEET NIGHTINGALE THEY'RE AIRBORNE!!" Scout yelled as she stepped back and started firing at the winged bloodmares, her tree like tentacles growing out of her back. "Crap, I think killing one provoked the rest, my mistake!"

"Wonderful" Alexander snarked "now there's flying murder horses! I really wish my powers were more attack oriented. I really want to punch one of those things in the face. But no, all I can do is stay safe inside my bubble, and make sure that everyone's shielded while strengthening Lily. Hey, Lily! You need to punch one of those things in the face for me!"

Meanwhile, a young girl with a white umbrella was watching over the chaotic scene at the train station. "Peculiar..." She said to herself. A spirit beside her asked what she meant. "The monsters...They're controlled..." She told the spirit. "This was planned from the begining..but what for...?" She asked before lightly sighing. "Guess we'll have to see what happens..." She then sat down at the edge of the rooftop she perched onto, her legs dangling over the far down street.

When Mariette performed the shift, and traversed over the veil between worlds to the Overcity, she found herself in a strange, yet beautiful landscape. The ground was made up of an endless pattern of interlocking squares, alternating in colors of black and white. Some of them were just bleach or darkened dirt, while other squares were firm and hard as stone. The sky was shimmering with a storm of shooting stars, and one could see galaxies with the naked eye. There were also ruins, some built by human hands, others by unknown means; as if they drifted and coalesced from different rivers of time and space. Far in the distance, Mariette saw the shape of something colossal move in the horizon, as if a mountain was walking; magical creatures live here too, but whether they were friendly or hostile was a mystery.

Mariette's Absolute Direction drew her to a certain direction, no matter what the focus was; it was clear that there was a way to find what she sought. And then she saw it; far away in the distance, the giant was consumed in what looked like a smoke cloud, rising high into the sky. Mariette saw the shape the cloud took; a fungus. She had to brace herself for the shockwave that soon hit her, like a giant wall of wind that almost knocked her off balance by the sheer volume of it. She then heard something strange carrying in the wind; it was a woman's laughter.

It seemed the bloodmares were capable of transforming, as not only did they grow wings to attack Lily and her group, but the ones Amber and Helga fought also changed, turning more spiky and plated due to bone growing from their flayed skins. Like wheels, they spun around, trying to ram into the two girls.
Both groups then heard a mocking laughter, familiar to some; riding on top of a bullet train arrived a magical girl dressed in gothic lolita fashion; she had a clock for an eye, and an oversized revolver in her hands.

"HELGA" She dramatically called out, and the train whisked right past the station, only to suddenly move in reverse. The magical girl. Jumped on top of the train station, and posed like a ballerina, leg raised high.
Helga grit her sharp teeth, and her shoulder slunk in an agitated fashion. "Minnie!"
"You stupid beast! You know what the price for betraying Mistress is! Give up, and accept your punishment!"
She twirled her revolver in her hand, and juggled it alongside another one she summoned. "I know! But I'm done working for a crazy witch like her! She never cared what happens to us, don't you see? You're just another pawn in her game!"
"How dare you insult the great Lady Justine!" Minnie snapped back.
"I had a faint hope you would repent and answer to your crimes yourself by coming willingly, but I see it was futile! I shall orchestrate your doom!"
"No, I won't let you!" Lily cried out, and and drew her bow.
"Hah, is this what you betrayed us over? A bunch of misfits pretending to be major players. They are nothing but extras, spouting asides and never achieving a true performance in their lives! Let us end this charade!"
Her revolver transformed into a conductor's baton, and she twirled it around. At that moment, human-sized pocket-watches sprouted from around her, and they spewed out mechanical doll minions like hoses; soon, the entire block was crowded with them, and they took their bayonetted rifles to bear as they charged with unseen skill, dodging attacks while quickly surrounding them.

Amber had gone back to using her cannon as a giant water pistol. The bloodicorn's bony armor made them very resistant to the magical girl's physics based attacks. She pointed her cannon at a bloodicorn flying over head and fired at one of it's wings. As large as the creature was, the powerful stream of water tipped the flying bloodicorn until it dove out of the sky and landed on top of a bunch of it's companions. “Stay away from the ship!” Amber joked as she continued to fight them in this manner.

“Um!” Sue squawked. “What's that!?”

Shortly afterwords, Minnie showed up. Minnie was still talking to Helga when Amber decided to speak. “Whoa! Cute outfit!” She turned to Helga. “Don't worry, Helga. I won't hurt your former friend, too much.” She wrapped her arm around her waist. “I've got a plan, just try not to get wet!” Amber was not capable of full flight with one broken wing, but she was capable of stabilizing herself for a high jump. This sent her straight over the incoming watchmen and onto the train. The landing was rough, but she managed to land on the train without dropping her cargo. “Heh.” Amber released Helga. “Watch my back, you can leave Minnie to me.” She whispered an order to Sue, and she promptly flew off. Amber leveled her cannon with Minnie and started to talk. “Alright Miss. High-and-mighty. You've got until the count of Ga-hah!” Amber fired a weighted net at Minnie. The weights at the ends of the net spread as they left the cannon, causing the fully open net to zoom towards the baton wielding magical girl. Amber was ready to follow up with a stream of water, regardless if her first attack hit or not.

Meanwhile, Sue flew up beside Lily. “Hey!” Sue perched herself on Lilly's head phones. “Amber plans on soaking the place. As a lightning specialist, does that help you at all?”

Tonya didn't consider herself a smart person, but even she knew that bluff wasn't going to work on Minnie. She prepared to use her gravity magic to soften any incoming blows.

Mariette

‘… Hm.’ Mariette gazed over the endless checkerboard pattern and over the stars and galaxies in above her head, and the ruins swirling among them. The beauty was not entirely lost on her, but she wasn’t in a state to appreciate them. And, way off, there was something larger. Yes, the Overcity was a place where Magical Girls could duke it out without fear… but perhaps they were risking something more? Regardless, that was not the intention of tonight’s visit. For now…

‘…’ Oh. No matter what she looked for, it was all in that direction. There was no question, then. She had a direction for what she was looking for. Then all she needed was- ‘…!?’ Mariette blinked a bit and frowned as the fungal cloud took shape, enveloping the giant. There was something that absolutely resembled, but…? … Oh, damn.

Her tentacles emerged, one wrapping around a surprised Eli, and the others etching themselves in the floor where they could find soft enough dirt, as the shockwave reached them.

‘Ih…!’ Eli made a cry of surprise, while Mariette bit together as the force grabbed at their bodies, but she held firm. It wasn’t comfortable, the force could have blown her over hadn’t she braced for it. And… the woman’s laughter in the wind…

One thing was clear. This place was not necessarily safe. With that, Mariette grabbed into Eli and with a swirl, Mariette reversed their Overcity Shift and the two were sent back into the apartment they had left. With that returned the feeling of normality, of the world she had come from, of this boring apartment. But…

‘Wh-what was that!?’ Eli asked, alarmed. Mariette had no reply for her. Seemed like this… could be dangerous indeed. Instead, Mariette made her decision.

‘Eli.’ She commanded.

‘Ah, yes!?’

‘There is a battle going on. Go scout it. Justine may be involved. Find out what you can with your Third Eye. Do not get involved, but unlike previously, it is alright to take protection with other Magical Girls should you somehow be targeted. Investigate those who partake in the battle.’ Mariette told, her voice cold.

‘Ah…’ Eli shivered a bit, but nodded. ‘Yes, mistress.’

‘Good. I’ll send you a bit closer.’ Mariette told, and then a portal opened beneath Eli before she had a chance to respond, and Eli dropped down wordlessly.

Now, then. Mariette breathed out with a sigh. It was time to commit to another little thing she had to do.

Eli

‘…’ Eli hit a rooftop some ways off from the trainstation battle. Far enough away that there shouldn’t be a risk of someone at the site noticing the magic of Mariette’s portal, but still close enough that Eli could get there quickly enough. … Things had started to move so quickly, Eli hadn’t had the proper time to readjust herself, after that happened to Deni… … … … …

She shook her head, knowing her mistress depended on her. Cloaking herself with Darkness magic, as she always did when scouting, Eli started leaping from building to building with her harpy-wings helping her glide, heading towards the battle and intending on finding a rooftop from which to spy…

This boy liked to poke fun, and were she still male herself and less experienced she might have been more defensive. But the power of friendship helped keep that in check. That said she realized she didn't have to be so formal around Elroy. Hopping up to her feet she grinned and shrugged. "Well I suppose I do have some kind of agenda in that I want to protect the people of Penrose. Might sound cliche but I do love my job even if it is technically coerced. I just believe that it's better to make friends than enemies when at all possible."

Glancing around it didn't seem like anyone else was going to show. The other person didn't seem to want to reveal themselves but she wasn't going to press to make them known. "Okay then, looks like it's just us for now." She gathered the remaining food items and packed them away. Taking her staff in her right hand she whirled around next to Elroy and hooked her left arm into his right arm. "Shall we go meet your sister then?" Her timidness seemed to have vanished all at once though there still wasn't any hint that her willingness to cooperate wasn't genuine.

As Shannon had predicted, Elroy didn't mind her more outgoing attitude. “Alright scarf girl.” He said while starting to move. “Let's go for a walk.” Elroy had finished eating his apple and threw the core with all of his might. It landed beside Shion's clone, who was hiding in some tall grass. Elroy appeared to still be entirely unaware of her presence as he walked arm in arm with Shannon.

Regina hadn't been searching for very long. There were a lot of mental signatures around this time of day. The ones leaping along rooftops were of some interest. Regina didn't know where they were going, but she assumed they were headed towards some big monster fight. Her aura may have gone unnoticed because they thought it was in that direction. It didn't matter. None of them would be willing to ally with her in a state of such urgency. You didn't have to be a mind reader to figure that out.

She picked up on Elroy's mind and instantly looked to the streets. There he was, walking with Shannon. That outfit made it painfully obvious that she was a magical girl. Had Elroy found them a patron? She immediately used a shadow to get down to street level before reverting back into her human form. As soon as she stepped out of the ally she was hiding in, Elroy spotted her.

“I win!” The incubus said with a grin. “I found this scarf girl in my travels. She's all about making friends and protecting people. And don't let her cool exterior fool you, she's quite timid. Definitely your type.” He pulled his arm out from around Shannon's and lightly pushed her towards Regina.

Regina sighed, but didn't back away from their potential friend. She eyed her carefully, biting at her thumb nail as her eyes passed over the woman. Regina wasn't sure how reliable this girl would be in the long run, but it wasn't often they found someone who could tolerate Elroy's attitude. The temptation was to transform again so that she could look into Shannon's mind, but there was no reason to revert to such aggressive tactics yet. This was a potential ally after all.

“Hello, I'm Regina.” She looked away from Shannon. “I'm sure Elroy has already told you a little bit about me, as well as our situation.” She hugged herself gently and looked at the stone magical girl out of the corner of her eye. “I would like us to be friends, but our situation has made it difficult for us to work with just anyone. We have needs tended to, at least for the time being.” She closed her eyes with a sigh. “We have no patron, nothing material to offer. But we are capable fighters that can fight on you or your patron's behalf. While we cannot control our auras, we are very difficult to pinpoint and can move around the city very quickly.” She opened her eyes again. “But we really need a source of coins and protection. Just a place where we can sleep without worry. If you could provide either of those, or know where we could find such things...” She turned her body to face Shannon again. “I believe an alliance, and even friendship, could soon follow.”

While Eli scouted that, Mariette had another business to attend to.

She lifted a hand and gathered her power. It took a little longer than her other portals, on account that her destination was not of this world, but soon enough a portal opened to her interdimensional apartment. From apartment to apartment, Mariette treaded.

The apartment was as boring as ever. False windows out to a false city gave a false sense that it was a part of a larger world. There was a table in the middle, with three chairs around it. A fridge, a cabinet, a cooking area for whatever they needed to eat. A couple of places to sleep, in case. How she greatly prefered Joe's place for that. Here was closer to Asengav's core of power, the whispers were louder, and it became much harder to relax. Asengav had given this to her as her safe place to relax in, yet it simply showed how little the Horror understood about what allowed a human to relax. Besides, Sonia had already proved this place wasn't safe.

In one corner lay the crystal she had been given by Justine, since she had thrown it there after their most recent meeting. It could stay there, Mariette would eventually have use of it, but she was wary that perhaps the Visceral could spy or eavesdrop through it. No conversations about their recent actions could take place close to it.

In the corner opposite of it, stood Asengav's great mirror. Her one gateway to Asengav's dimension, and her way of contacting him. Which was what she was going to do now.

Mariette wandered over to the mirror, lifting a hand and placing it against the mirror. She was going to start transmitting her message to her master, that she wished to speak with him. She'd then be made to wait, because Asengav had no requirement to actually grace her with his presence until he saw fit to do so. It was reasonable that he may be expecting her to contact him after what just happened, his tentacles had been burned, but perhaps he'd leave her hanging a bit just for the principle of it.

Regardless, Mariette now stood with a hand on the mirror, focusing her call, considering the words she'd say...

"Mirror, mirror, on the corner..." Mariette heard a voice, and one she knew all too well.

"Who is the fairest in the betwixt border?" A giggle then ensued, and Mariette saw the crystal glow. The flaming eye projected from it's side, staring directly at her.
"I must say, it was quite rude of you to throw away my gift to you, Reflective...No...We should be on first-name terms now, Mariette."

The moment she heard the first tone, Mariette stopped sending her message. ... Asengav would have noticed and understood. She hoped, anyway. Regardless. She slowly turned and faced the source of the voice, the flaming eye coming from the crystal in the other corner. She saw no need to reply to her addressor's words, merely glared back. And as much as Mariette would have wanted her look to be blank, her brow frowned and body tensed up a bit, her look nothing short of hostile.

The eye blinked. "You must be furious, with the way your eyes look. I suppose that disgusting slime of yours held more value to you than I expected. Well, we can't all choose our slaves, I suppose. And it seems the other one is missing...How bold of you." Her tone was polite, yet that only sharpened the insults.

‘Bold, Justine? For Eli missing from my side?’ Mariette scoffed, ignoring the rest but replying to the last bit. ‘They are my scouts, not my bodyguards. Now that one of them have been stolen from me, the other will need to double her efforts. Each second by my side is a second not gathering information for me, therefore wasted. I have no need for constant companionship.’ She told, her tone sharp. She wouldn't deny being riled up, but she prided herself on her ability to remain focused.

"Hmm, that may be so...But is it also true of them? We live in a dangerous world after all..." Justine sounded like she enjoyed the banter. "Anyway, I would like to share a little secret...Or should I say, I already have?"
A sound of clinking ceramics and a sip then ensued.
"A little leak has now happened you see, and your veil of secrecy has been lifted. Now, the magical girl community knows of Mariette Pedersen the kidnapper, complete with a description of appearance and abilities. Now you have no allies, Mariette. You are all alone."

... So, either Justine is talking about when Mariette herself spoke to Alicia, or something has happened beyond her own knowledge. Perhaps Amber. Regardless, it was something she had already accepted when she had chosen to speak with Alicia. But for the fact that she had no allies...

Of all the people her mind could wander to... She thought of Violet and Sakura, who had somehow managed to befriend her. She thought of Sue, who had offered to care for her. And she thought of Lily, who had so dearly wanted to connect to her. It wasn't much, but that mere fact, made the slightest smirk appear on her lips for the briefest moment. There are things you don't know, Justine...

‘And?’ Mariette let the smirk vanish, raising her chin a little. ‘I am the agent of a Horror. From day one, I never expected to have any allies. I never needed them. I was always alone. The difference is that now they know of me, which in some ways make it easier for me to move. After all, who could catch me? My scouts have searched throughout the world for Magical Girls, I know what they're all capable of. I know a grand total of two Magical Girls that could ever catch up to me. I'm speaking to one of them. I have nothing to fear from the common ones.’ She told, her voice confident.

A silent moment passed.
"Is that so? Well, it will be an entertaining display when the Beacon comes after you. They surely have members capable of finding you, so you can only run." Her voice was showing a slight change to a less composed one.
"You will know fear, soon enough."

‘...’ Oh, she was aware. There really was a difference in pressure, knowing there were people out there that now knew of you and wanted to hunt you down. But... ‘Perhaps, Justine. Then again...’ She had to restrain a little smirk.

‘Are you not in a similar position? They learned of Stephanie. Helga had her body destroyed. People unknowing of my connection to you sought me out to try to have me ferry them to your base. I shoed them away, of course, but knowledge about you is spreading as well, through sources I do not know. Beacon surely will have learned by now. I know you have your collection of followers, but...’ Mariette tilted her head a little, looking at the eye curiously.

‘Other than those, are you not alone as well? Will they not come hunting for you, too? What's so special about me being hunted, then?’ Mariette asked, honestly curious as to what Justine's answer to this might be.

The answer was a bout of laughter, noble yet unnerving.
"My dear Mariette, you are a fool for thinking you can play my game; I will always be two steps ahead." Another sip happened, this one a bit longer.
"I have no concern for the Beacon anymore. In fact, I should thank you for it, Mariette; without you I might have had to work on my plan for another decade. But now, nobody will be able to stop me. This world...shall be one with purity..."

That was roughly the reaction Mariette expected, but it was nice to have it confirmed. It was a little distressing how little she seemed to worry about the forces of this world, but... Hm. Mariette regained her neutral look she preferred as she watched the eye...

‘... I couldn't convince you to wait a little, then?’ She asked. ‘I simply need to achieve my goals, then you can have this world. I'll be jumping to the next world where Asengav needs me. I feel like you owe me at least a little for that, since you killed my underling. You'll be ahead of schedule, either way. When I'm done or die, feel free to make this world "one with purity", if you feel like. I won't care anymore. What does that mean, anyway?’ Mariette asked, holding an expressionless face as she looked at Justine.

"Tsk tsk. I did no such thing. How impolite of you to accuse me, Mariette. Also, like I've said during our meeting, your objectives matter nothing to me. But if you are desperate enough to survive, then there is a way out; surrender, and swear yourself to me." Another sip, and then the sound of ceramics clinking, as if the teacup was removed.
"So what will it be, Mariette?"

So, Mariette was aware she was at a bit of a disadvantage. Asengav was investing in many worlds, Mariette wouldn't know how many. It felt like Justine may have more support from Father than she herself had from Asengav, putting her at a distinct power disadvantage. But...

‘That I cannot do, for I already serve a master.’ Mariette spoke with an unchanging tone, meeting the eye steadily. In her mind, even at the price of death, she could not go against Asengav. ... That this was the result of being Mind-Bent to be eternally loyal to him, was not something Mariette was aware of in this case.

Another silent moment, only accentuated by a sound of tapping fingers.
"An expected answer. I did consider this a foregone conclusion. Well then, I suppose that...You have outlived your usefulness. Farewell."
The eye projecting from the crystal began glowing, and shortly after, so did the crystal itself.
A strange sound started emanating from it, as if it was gathering energy. The glowing accelerated, until-

Mariette listened intently to the foreboding words. Upon confirming that she would likely be in danger she was prepared, quickly reaching behind her and touched Asengav's mirror, a powerful artifact of portals, which immediately opened while she let herself fall backwards through it. Her tentacles, faster than her own fall, gripped her and threw her through into that same apartment she had entered her dimension from. As quickly as she could, she swung her hand and the portal above her swung with it to direct itself upwards rather than at her, for she didn't trust that she could close it swiftly enough before she landed on her back in the apartment.

An explosive force pushed rapidly out of the portal, bright red energy shooting out like beams of searing fire, up into the ceiling of the room Mariette escaped to. The ceiling started to crumble, and chunks of it fell on top of Mariette; while she survived, she definitely didn't escape unscathed.

Mariette, with a start, realized that perhaps indoors hadn't been the best of choices as the beam cracked the ceiling. She opened another portal above her as a shield while she defended her sides with her arms and curled up, while the debris of the ceiling crashed down. Considerable weight crashed down on her sides, from the piles, even as she was spared from straight above her. Also, dust had been thrown all over her. With a bit of a peeved expression, she crawled out after the dust had settled, brushing a hand over her face to escape having to cough.

Well. How nice to have been right about Justine's future intention to kill her.

Once Mariette managed to pull herself up again, she saw through the portal that the dimensional apartment was utterly wrecked, scorched beyond recognition; if she had stayed inside, she would have perished.

She carefully gazed into the interdimensional apartment. Okay, wrecked. It didn't matter, being in there was a death-trap, now. The entire point of it was to keep her safe, but since Justine could reach in there anyways, it instead became a prison with no escape. Looks like she wouldn't be returning. But...

There was another reason she hadn't closed the portal. She focused her power, and instead of using the mirror to make a portal she made a portal of her own, bigger, behind it in the apartment. Then she dispelled the portal on the mirror itself, grabbing it with her own arms to lift it out. The frames had been completely destroyed, but by making it a portal she had saved Asengav's mirror from being destroyed as well. All in the little victories.

Mariette sighed as she put down the large frame-less mirror onto the floor. That was probably the first serious effort she had needed to put into actually lifting something herself in... ever. She'd made Deni do it in the past. ...

First she quickly portalled herself into one of her numerous apartments that she knew was empty in the city, to escape those who'd come looking to see what that sudden noise had been or if anyone had sensed the magic. Then from there...

She placed the mirror aside and collapsed in a chair. She needed to relax a bit. ... Then contact Asengav again. ... This had all turned way too intense for her liking. It would have been so much easier to accomplish her goals if there hadn't been another dimension-travelling Horror-girl wanting to achieve her goals in the area. Now, she was truly at war with Justine von Visceral... ... ...

Mariette settled, leaning forward with a frown into a thinking position as she considered her next move in this game Justine thought her a fool for trying to play.
