@Dervish I'm assuming that for mages, a list of spells is not required, rather just a designation of the mage's ability with a specific branch of magic?

Yeah, the guy was a devout Christian, from what I remember. Can't recall which denomination it was though.

I watched a video about the Simarillion and I gotta say, it sounds a lot like the Bible in a lot of ways.

Oh yeah. Just filled with dwarves and elves and all that awesome stuff. It’s also as dry a read.

There's a section in the character sheet saying up to 7 spells. We do want to know what they are.

Is this supposed to be that section? I mean no offense, but if so, it is a little unclear. If I've somehow missed the actual bit you're referring to, call me out on my foolishness, please. :)

It is. Well, it's a history book more than anything. Just in the Lore, there's no question there is a God and angels so they treat Eru Ilúvatar and all of the mythological shit like we would treat historical figures.

He might have been catholic. *Googles* Yep, he was Catholic. I love how it effected his writing, like how he didn't enjoy making all Orcs evil since everyone can be a saved person, and he just didn't know what to do with them.

Also, to stay on topic, I'll whip up some of my character sheet tonight! Thinking of making a Breton Battle-Mage.

@Dervish Do elves mature at the same rate as humans, in this canon, and simply have extended lives?

@POOHEAD189 Yeah, I recall reading a quote of his in response to people thinking LotR was an anti-industrialization story and he replied that it was fundamentally a Catholic tale.

He also uses a lot of stuff from Norse mythology, like Elves and Dwarves (Dwarves made weapons and goods for the Aesir, which are the order of beings that Odin, Thor, Tyr, Freya, etc belong to. They made Thor's hammer, Mjollnir). Trolls are basically Jotunn, the Nazguls' winged beasts are basically the Nidhogg. Surtr is more or less the Balrog.

@Dervish Do elves mature at the same rate as humans, in this canon, and simply have extended lives?

Elves do canonically live longer than races of men, just accounts differ a bit. To keep things simplified, Orcs have a similar lifespan to humans (partially due to how they're pretty far removed from Aldmer purity thanks to basically being the spawn of Malacath), and due to their own divergence from the Aldmer, the Bosmer and Dunmer we pretty much have living for around 250 years if they're healthy, although certain individuals have lived for many centuries. The Altmer are the ones with 1000+ year lifespans because they're pretty much the closest thing to their ancestors, the Aldmer, which were created directly from the Aedra.

The only other race that is probably going to live for ridiculous amounts of time are Argonians given their near-immunity to disease and reptilian-like physiology. Seeing as crocodiles and turtles can basically live for ridiculous periods of time that far surpass mammals, it's safe to say Argonians probably have extended periods of life that surpass men and Khajiit.

@Dervish Yeah, Anglo Saxon and Nordic lore were his go to. ALSO, question. If the mages guild is destroyed, where would an mage learn magic? I'm making a Breton. Also Lady Tabris is wondering on discord, and she is going with an Altmer.

@POOHEAD189 High Rock and Alinor are both homes to incredibly magic-oriented societies. The Mage's Guild was an Imperial institution, for all intents and purposes, it would be a bit silly to presume it was the only avenue available to societies where most individuals are magically inclined. Even Skyrim has the College of Winterhold, it wouldn't be unreasonable that there's a number of institutions available to the Breton and Altmer individuals in their homelands, or private tutors.

@Dervish Understood. I just didn't want to make a named institution that didn't exist. I can just say 'school' or 'academy' perhaps. Might add a small name, though.

@LadyTabris To my understanding, that's still chugging along just fine.

@POOHEAD189 Feel free just to make up a name in the absence of information.

Just as long as it's not Hogwarts.

I actually used the Arcane University for Judena in her sheet. There's a section on the Elder Scrolls wiki that supports it as a prominent place of education just minus the mages guild. The building and it's resources are still intact in 4E202.

There's also the College of Whispers and the Synod.

By the way, I am very excited about this and everyone's characters. Blessings of the Eight Divines upon you all.
