<Snipped quote by shylarah>
I will when I need to, but I will also let you guys know, moving forward.

I haven't read the IC yet, but I'd like to clarify a bit about Father Ilya to everyone. He's really not an asshole, just dismissive half the time. If you've got an idea, he'll listen. If you've got a deal, he'll consider it. If you want to discuss something with him, he'll at least give you his position on the matter. Y'all seem to think he hates everyone and shuns people, but that's not true. He just doesn't want to deal with small talk or doing favors for people who could never repay him. (As Inquisitors, every single one of you could possibly repay him some day.)

Also, his racism isn't nearly as overt as people seem to think. It's lightened up a lot over time, but from the beginning it was being judgemental, not hateful.

Other than that, I've had 0 objections to people's character relationships.

I figured he wasn't actually racist, but Viveca might not realize she is either. She's jealous, for sure. Not be all SJW, but he has a privilege and a luxury she can't even fathom. Plus, Mother Indira strongly disliked him at first, and Viveca likely has not yet let that go.

@Draken pfft. With Stina she'll go until her points are falling apart. It's fun. With Ilya...she might make more of an effort to keep him from countering them. I'm not sure she'd like losing to him, even verbally.

@Scout Is it racist if you hate everyone but hate some people more? It probably is. Ziotea definitely has a strong bias.

Ironically, by graduation it looks like Father Ilya is probably one of the least racist of the two war bands! Particularly since he specifically endeavors to judge everyone by their own merit now.

I also imagine that next to none of the other graduates know about Ilya's past aside from the name. Most everybody who pays attention to the topic knows the Bjornlie family businesses. However, while never left starving on the streets, Father Ilya hasn't had a cushy life since he was breastfeeding. There's always been lessons, training, and tasks. Aside from the introduction of true risk of death and dormitories, I don't think the Red Seminary was a huge lifestyle shift for him.

@Lovejoy and we should discuss Antonin and ziotea further. If you're not up for specifics I'd be willing to switch to the general stuff, but I'm pretty sure there's still gaps right now.

Plus it's a dynamic I wanna feel put more.

Phew. I hope that wasn't too stereotypical and gross. I felt Tatiana was almost too statically happy. This won't change her personality really. It's just to add some depth.

@OppositionJWonderful post! <3 your description of Tatiana walking through the city. Really made it feel alive yet forlorn and cold.

Also, that line about Galahad being "a prince or something" really got me. Almost woke up my boyfriend laughing :p

Oh and interesting development with her father. If only Astraea had been around...

@OppositionJd DEAR GODS. I'm not clear if her father tried and failed, or if her mother took him down because of it and left him to die. *flailing* ETIHER WAY, IT'S AWESOME!

Decided to take the whole prince thing and roll with it. Not exactly a prince, but son of a prominent general in a civilization that's all about its warriors is a pretty close comparison.

@lovejoy In today's random thoughts:

if fire is evil and the word itself is taboo or at least a curse, wouldn't a phoenix be the equivalent of like...the antichrist crossed with demons crossed with cthulhu on the Nope Scale? Since it's a red phoenix (or it was, wehn it was on our breastplates) we know that it must be a fire phoenix as opposed to an ice phoenix or some other sort. But it puzzles me why the Inquisition would choose such a horrific and heretical creature for the name of a warband.

@shylarah For the same reason they would choose a Seraph? An angel of fire and light?

@shylarah Because it's cool. Duh. No questions! XD

No, but those are good points. Maybe it's about irony - if Fire is taboo or overwhelmingly terrifying, then wearing an emblem representing fire would be an ironic way to be feared. Irony at its finest. Though... I don't think it would work too well.

@CollectorOfMyst I'd no idea seraphs were associated with fire. But since there was nothing specific to imply that these seraphs are fire, while the red circle/red phoenix does (red->fire, and I'm not coming up with an alternative element. Iron, maybe? But even the most out-there fantasy stories have yet to include a metal phoenix), I wonder. This is the inquisition, and promoting fire is heretical. It seems like a discontinuity of logic to use a fire phoenix. I'd accept an ice phoenix in a heartbeat.

people have used "evil/terrifying" symbolism throughout history in war. just look at medieval crests, Hoplite helmets, Samurai Masks, Painted Bombers, etc. using a phoenix is certainly not overtly out of the ordinary, just a bit weird.

@shylarah perhaps a Phoenix is a bird of pure ether? Seeing as ether has pretty much taken the place of fire in this world.

Mythical beast of incredible power beyond what should, and many debate could exist? Yup. Perfect name for one of our crack teams of super-fighters/casters.

Leviathan Warband got the short end of the stick.
