I have epilepsy (the specific name for mine is complex partial seizures). I had my first episode at the age of 12, and I'm now 25, so I've been epileptic for more than half of my life. I've gone through four different medications and dosages and I currently take 11 pills every day. Doctors scanned my brain a bunch of times and an entire panel of neurologists reviewed those scans like 8 years ago. They couldn't determine the trigger or location of the malfunction. He told me that one of my options was for them to cut open my skull and remove part of my brain where they might be originating. Yeah, that's an option. They still don't know what triggers them, and I could absolutely have one at any time.
In light of this, I ignore seizure warnings and have about 400 hours into a game with an epilepsy warning every time you start it up (Rhythm Zone) because I stopped being depressed about it years ago and now I really just don't care. Epilepsy can go screw itself. Besides, the awareness ribbon is super cool (it has butterfly wings).
I'm hoping that I'll be able to help someone else who isn't coping as well as I am and I'll succeed in helping them overcome their fear of the permanent, incurable, inescapable, life-consuming nightmare that is epilepsy. Hasn't happened yet. If that's you, feel free to send me a PM. Maybe I can help you out.
