Multiple circles of various rainbow colors danced across the countertop as pale fingertips delicately twisted and moved a small glass teacup in the sunlight. The chocolate brown eyes viewing the reflective colors were seemingly glossed over as if not even noticing the beauty just in front of them but that their owner was somewhere completely far away in her mind. Alison's thoughts swirled around everything that had happened this week and even before that time. She wanted to desperately believe that this place was just a dream induced by a comma and another side of her was overjoyed to be shoved into this strange land....no, this Wonderland. She would have never thought that the last trip to her grandmother's house would end up how it did.

All that could be heard from the cracked bedroom door was the shuffling of cardboard before the distinct sound of packing tape dispensing as a new box was created. A silence fell in the room once more as the wavy-haired blonde inside sat unmoving in the middle of the cherry wood floor with personal objects of her grandmother scattered around her in a circle. She didn't know how long she had sat in her knelt position but if the twinge of pain in her knees or the muscles in her legs that seemed to be begging for a position change was anything to go by then she probably didn't want to know. Alison was finally down to the last box and somehow she couldn't quite bring herself to pack it up. Every time she managed to pick up an object to start was the moment her hands began to shake, tears would build in her eyes, and the breath caught in her throat as her heart felt heavy. It was like she was losing her grandmother all over again and that Alison herself was the one throwing her grandmother's memory under the rug. Of course, that notion was ridiculous but she could not help but feel that way just a tiny bit.

She shook her head lightly, tossing the thoughts from her mind and brushing her hand under her eyes to rid herself of any stray tears. Grandmother Alice would want her to stay strong and happy, not to drown in grief so that is exactly what she would do. Alison steeled her resolve and actually looked at what she had left to pack. Most of it was clothes but she still had a range of photos, nicknacks, and the small amount of jewelry that her grandma had treasured above others around her as well.

Alison went to pick up one of Alice's rings, wanting to have a look at some of the ones she had never seen before, only to clumsily have it spill from her fingertips and clink on to the floor. She groaned in frustration as she watched it happily sail under the bed which regrettably caused her to have to slowly move from her seated position. Stretching out, she quickly bit back a wince as her legs complained loudly now about the previous torture. She carefully pushed herself up, waiting for a few seconds to regain her footing and curling the toes on her bare feet to work the blood flow back in before maneuvering around everything. Once she made it to the side of the bed, she slid to the wooden floor and glanced around until she spotted the small item she was seeking. Alison slithered her way under the bed as much as she could and reached her arm out to brush and pat around in the area of the ring until suddenly a floorboard gave way under one of her firmer pats.

Alison tilted her head, noticing the popped up board in confusion. She pulled her arm back, quickly shimming out from under the bed frame and snapping upright. She crawled over the bed to the other side before leaned down to grab the bed frame and giving it a firm yank. It was a slow process by herself, especially with the calls from downstairs about the noise but after reassuring her family that it was nothing to worry about before she set to work eagerly. Once the bed was cleared of the area, she curiously moved to the loose board and gently pried it open to find many hidden objects. "Curiouser and curiouser, why did you go through such trouble to hide these?"

She pulled out some notebooks, one even having a dried flower as a bookmark but it looked nothing Alison had ever seen before. There was a something wrapped up in an unnaturally glittery fabric that had bells attached the edges as well as other unlikely objects inside. Alison carefully started to pull out the items one by one so she could examen them closely as she did, treating each piece as if it were glass that would break at any moment.

She started with taking out the larger items from the hidden cubby or at least they were larger than some of the others and ended up with a dagger in her hand. Why would her grandma need this? It was beautiful, gold with turquoise gems embedded in certain places and worked in for the overall intricate design. The twists, turns, and colors made it almost seem festive instead of dangerous.
Alison set it aside with the journals and gently pulled out the next trinket. It wasn't as extravagant as some of the others but the leather pouch was simplistically sweet with a pull string that had colorful beads at the ends. It wasn't empty from the weight she could feel resting on her palm and opened it for what was probably the first time in a while. Inside the small pouch were a couple of coins, from who knows where but she didn't touch them as it seemed like they weren't meant to be and with that she sealed it back up so it could be placed with the others.

Alison turned her attention back to the other trinkets still nestled in the fabric, her attention instantly caught by a puzzle box. The wood was a dazzling deep purple and gold with etched designs that she didn't understand but wished she did. What secrets did it hold if any? She yearned to know what the puzzle itself would look like completely open. It was building her curiosity and would most likely be her new obsession to try and solve a little more each day till she finally figured it out.

She quickly moved on to the next few items, knowing if she dug into the puzzle box that time might run away from her and she did not want a single item missed in this new discovery. Alison pulled out three necklaces that had become hopelessly tangled and would need some delicate love and attention to undo but was not impossible. The first one was very similar to another but also completely different as it felt softer in style with the gentle fully bloomed white rose that elegantly rested on the front of the key while the other one was bold, the top a twist of brass and the neck of the key filled with keyholes as if the key didn't even know what it was too. The charm attached showed a simple lock with a heart cut out of it which could be a symbol for many things. The last necklace, however, was set apart from the other two unless you said that the heart shape was a theme from the other. It was a jeweled red heart, a crown placed on top though as if a queen among hearts and connected to the others by a simple silver chain.

After the necklaces were carefully placed on top of the puzzle box, she moved on to see what else was hidden away. Alison smiled softly as she gazed upon a spangled bobbin littered with red butterflies. This reminded her of so many memories, happy ones and the lost times she would no longer share. She gripped the small item to her chest for just a moment before closing her eyes to hold back the tears while she abruptly placed it away to look onward. A bunched up piece of black lace was tucked in the corner which was curious causing her to take this item next but when she did, a sweet smell reached her nose and she realized it was from the material she now held in her hands. It turned out that once unfolded it happened to be a mask but what was surprising is that there a deep purplish black object that at first glance almost seemed like a guitar pick but the idea was instantly thrown out the second she touched it. It was almost a shell-like quality to it and had a metal shaped spade dangling in front of it. It didn't seem to be the only small bobble hidden inside the lace as a pair of cufflinks with the suits pressed into the golden metal.

She couldn't possibly see how any more items could be inside but sure enough, yet another item remained. It was near the bottom, a brassy gold pocket watch. Alison clicked the button, letting the top layer spring open to reveal the inside which caused a sad frown to appear on her lips as the arms were moving in all kinds of directions and even the ticking noises seemed to be off. It was sad to see something so beautiful and precious broken with time, probably because it had been at the bottom or that was her assumption anyway. She closed the top gently, placing it with the rest.

Nothing else but the fabric seemed to be left so she carefully moved it out, trying her best not to snag anything. Only the tinkling of the bells around the edges could be heard, that is until something clanked out of the fabric. It hadn't been loud, it wasn't big but it still worried her and panic set in that something else might have broken. She placed the jingling material off to the side and gazed over the area to see what was out of place. There next to the hole was a lone collar with a silver bell. The collar itself was black with what she could only describe as an astronomer tracking view on the stars in the night sky. She wondered if this use to be Dinah's when the cat had been a kitten. It was the only logical reason why it would be here and would keep the cat's memory alive.

"Wonder what these meant to you exactly...."Alison spoke softly, brushing her fingers over the hidden trinkets lovingly and feeling like she had learned a part of Alice's life that she had never shared. Alison couldn't even know if most of her guesses and thoughts had been close to correct. No, she couldn't pack these ones away. They were special.

Alison stood up, running over to the backpack she had left by her shoes and began to empty it out of all her papers and junk. She shoved the things she would need back in before moving back over to the hidden items. She took one of her grandmother's old pale blue dresses and wrapped the smaller items into it before setting it in the bag. She was gentle with all the books and larger trinkets, placing them in only after she placed whatever was wrapped in jingling fabric. Once those were tucked away she gazed over the other things she had yet to pack. Alison moved some of the jewelry into her bag, more specifically a locket before zipping it up and setting aside.

She needed to get back to the task at hand after all. It killed her, a knife to the heart with each item she placed into that box but this has to be done and she would be strong.
The sound of the tape sliding over the last box was so final. It was hard to believe that she would never be in this house again after today. Alison slung the discarded bag carefully over her shoulder before picking up the box awkwardly as she tried to get a good grip on it. She should have known better than to try to carry two items at once since as she tried to adjust the box, the bag on her shoulder started to slip which she quickly grabbed which meant holding a heavy box with one hand. This caused the box to almost tumble which meant she tried to catch it and of course it lead to her clumsy self slipping.

Alison's eyes snapped shut, waiting for the sound of the crashing box, to feel the slam of her skull against the full-length mirror leaning against the wall, and to smell the iron tang of her blood in the air once the glass fell around her but none of these things happened. She didn't hear a box crashing but instead heard the twittering of birds singing songs only they understood. She didn't feel the slam of her skull but instead almost a floating feeling before a sensation of wet grass slowly seeping into her clothes. Alison surely didn't smell her own blood for it could not smell as wonderfully candied sweet as it did now.

Her eyes fluttered opened and she laid there for a moment, unmoving and slightly stunned as her toes and fingers curled into the grass below. She jolted up, glancing around with one thought on her mind.
'Am I dreaming? Did I hit my head so hard that I passed out?'
She was no doubt confused but she was also in breathless awe at the garden around her. Everything so vibrantly beautiful and smelled like anything sweet you had ever craved or maybe never knew you had craved. If this was a dream, then it was one of the most amazing she had ever experienced.

She slowly pushed herself up to a standing position and turned in a circle, taking it all in until she noticed the bag next to her feet as her ankle brushed against it. She picked it up, placing it on both her shoulders this time. Alison had planned to blindly pick a direction to go in when she spotted something familiar. She reached out her hand to touch one of the flowers since it look similar if not the exact identical to the dried one she has seen in the notebook when she was grabbed by a thorny vine.

She yanked her arm back as an instinctive reaction and gasped in pain. This garden suddenly didn't seem so peaceful and beautiful as even the flowers themselves look agitated and threatening.
"Let go of me!"Alison yelled bravely, wishing she had some shears right about now as she moved her free hand to try and pry the plant from her arm since the thorns were painfully digging at her skin, not even noticing anything else that could be a danger, like say, the other plants she wasn't focused on.


Alison readjusted her head that had been resting on her arm, gliding her gaze down the arm and to the hand that was still tilting the teacup playfully. A dark bruise wove up to her elbow, fading scratches accompanying the marks as they were starting to heal. It had been lucky for her that the doctor, Alistair, had a balm of Bandersnatch's saliva mixed together with aloes, mint, and beeswax. It was so pleasant to the smell and had helped greatly in a speedy recovery but as with everything, it would still take time. She sighed, shaking her head and pushed back gently from the counter, stretching lightly as her thoughts turned to the people she had met. Each of them were friendly, if not exuberant in their own way but something told her that their behavior was not the only ones to be offered here. Alison had heard mention of the Red King and the Queen of Hearts, the worry definitely showing more in others but it was there. It made her curious if there was more to Wonderland than first meets the eye. It was just like the garden in her view, beautiful but maybe more dangerous than it really appeared. She didn't feel like it was right to ask Eugene or even the White Queen for more details.'Maybe I should visit the twins and get a little bite to eat at the Bistro. Those twos antics have been able to keep my mind off things and make me smile.'

The property had long since been forsaken. The building sagged like some dreaming beast, shutters on the roof peeled away to reveal the swollen wood beneath. Despite her being offered a key to the place by the owners themselves, the locks were layered in rust so thick that Dawn was forced to shimmy through one of the windows. The inside of the place was hardly in any better shape, she found. A thick layer of dust coated just about everything- the floors, the furniture, the rat spoor scattered about here and there, powdered with age. As she slipped inside, tightening the respirator against her face (the last thing she wanted was to contract asbestosis from this little venture), she eyed the little art gallery of graffiti amassed on the walls.

’KATY IS A FUKIN SLUT’, declared one. Another simply said ’DREAM’ in bold, bubbly font. There were depictions of thousand-eyed monsters, of pouty-lipped women, crudely drawn genitalia. It was a shame, Dawn mused. Beneath all the ruin and the grime, the building itself must have been quite beautiful in its youth. She could see flashes of its past here and there in the faded wallpaper, in the very layout of the place- although she wasn’t here to play interior decorator. She moved on, carefully swinging open one of the doors in the place and scanning the room behind with her flashlight.

Daryl Young. That was the name of her client’s son, and the same person she was seeking now. Dawn had been provided a picture of him upon taking on the case- a young man about thirteen, just teetering on the brink of entering adulthood. There had been the telltale flush of acne blossoming beneath his skin, peach fuzz sprouting up on his upper lip. He had been wearing an old, ratted beanie over slicked up hair and a sneer, and Dawn was already well aware that, if she had been younger, she would’ve kept a careful berth between him and herself. But the her of the present saw the remnants of baby fat lingering on his jaw, the almost awkward discomfort at being shoved into the spotlight. A kid.

She could only hope that Daryl was safe, wherever he was.

Shaking herself out of her reverie, Dawn kept on the search, sweeping her light back and forth like a prison guard. It was in the third room on the right that she began to find signs of life- a few old blankets, relatively free of dust; a discarded set of men’s clothing; and, perhaps most tellingly, a can of stew, the fork resting lazily against the rim. What remained inside had dried, but was fresher than most things she had seen. There was no guarantee that this was a lead- if anything, the odds were higher of it being the residence of an unrelated squatter- but it was something, at least. Dawn snapped a few pictures of the setup, and, fingers flying, went to message Ms. Young. Someone had been staying on her property. Did any of the blankets look particularly familiar? The clothing? With that done, Dawn pocketed her phone once more, and was turning to resume her investigation when the low creak of wood caught her attention.

Her hand immediately flew to her holster, resting against the butt of her gun. The sound had come from one of the doors she had previously tried to open, only to find stuck. Dawn had been planning to try and pry it open so far, but there was no need for that anymore, by the looks of it. It hung open now, yawning wide to expose its dark belly. Lips pursed into a thin line, Dawn approached, aiming her flashlight inside to find none of the shadows giving way. Her attempts to set a foot inside led to her quickly discovering that there was no floor- it was as if, in place of a room, someone had managed to build in a bottomless pit.

Dawn had read before about an odd sort of mental phenomenon- “l’appel du vide”, or ‘the call of the void’, was the term. It was that niggling sort of curiosity you felt when standing on a cliff to see what would happen if you hurled yourself over, allow yourself to plummet who-knows-far to your doom. Or, when standing with a friend, to shove them over instead and watch them fall. It wasn’t something that was necessarily rare or present in only a few unfortunate people- it was common enough to haunt scores of people. It was something Dawn felt now as she peered into the gap, wondering with a sort of morbid fascination what it would be like to jump. How far was the bottom? For how long would she fall? The odd sort of spell lasted only a few moments before Dawn shook herself out of it, and she went to turn away from the blackness…

...Only to find herself affixed where she stood, eyes still locked onto the doorspace. She couldn’t move. With a rising alarm, Dawn tried to jerk away, only to feel herself being tugged back- dragged towards the door in a sudden gust of wind. Her fingers clawed at the frame for support, peeling away what remained of the paint before, after a few moments of struggle, Dawn was sent tumbling forth into the abyss.
The wind stole the scream from her lungs.




That had been a week ago, now, although it felt almost like years given all that had happened. Never in her life would Dawn have thought Wonderland more than a pleasant little storyland for children. And yet here she was. In a place where flowers talk, cats turned into men in the blink of an eye, and several people (along with herself, much to her mild discomfort) were seen as “special” for stumbling into the place. “Alices”, the Wonderlanders called them. Originally, Dawn had been firm in her conviction that she was dead. Dead or drugged. The whole place was far too surreal to logically believe to be real.

But as time went on, Dawn had been forced to consider the possibility that, yes, all this was real. It was still an idea she had trouble wrapping her mind around at times, but it helped that she hadn’t been the only one to “fall”, and that the residents themselves had been nothing but friendly and helpful. She had been trying to make up for their kindness by taking up a job at the tea shop, but at times she wasn’t entirely sure if what she was doing was enough.

And then there was the matter of the enigmatic royalty- the Red King and Queen of Hearts, who Dawn still hadn’t met. From what she had heard, however, that was likely for the best.

Tying off her freshly plaited hair with a ribbon, Dawn swept her hat from the table and slipped out of her room. Of course, for all of Wonderland’s pleasantness, treating the situation without some level of caution was a risky one. The sting of her leg rubbing against its wrappings served only to reinforce the thought.

The streets were quiet as Dawn made her way to the teashop, the gentle sounds of shopkeepers bustling about and animals chattering keeping the morning from being wholly in silence. A far cry from the winding labyrinth that made up Chicago. She found herself idly reminiscing about home as she entered Mr. Heginbotham’s store, but she snapped out of it upon seeing that she wasn’t alone in the store. A warm smile lit Dawn’s face as she brought her hat into her hand, hanging it upon the nearest stand before ducking her head in polite greeting.

“Good morning, Allison,” she said. Her accent hung crisply off her words, giving them a sort of lilt here and there. “How’s your arm doing?” Alison was like her- another “Alice”, that is- and from what Dawn had learned of her, she seemed a fairly reasonable woman. Amiable. It was something that Dawn appreciated.

Synapses firing. Colors of blue, and red. Hallucinations associated by the words spoken. Elsewhere. Elsewhere. Elsewhere. I’ve never been here before. It fades. I should go there someday. Convulsing back to life. Revitalized.

Vision of all white. A woman in a gown of white, her hair snow white. Was this heaven, despite all that he done? All that he had done to reject God. Perhaps God hadn’t abandoned him. Silhouettes. Voices of the unfamiliar.

He’d eventually have names for everybody who helped him the day he came here. He still has no reality to grasp at to associate what this place is. They call this paradise Wunderland like the stories his Mama use to read.Yet, it seemed highly impossible. This was all a death like hallucination conjured by his brain to put his body and spirit at ease.

The White Kingdom of Wunderland was run by one White Queen Mirana Blanc. He remembers her being very beautiful to him when he woke in this strange delusion. If he were to consider what an angel would look like, she was not a bad vision of an angel. In fact he prefered this vision of an angel than the demure divine ones he saw in murals and old fashion paintings.

There were twins as well, a boy and a girl. Indigo and Percival though they were also known as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. He wondered if they would be insulted by the renditions of them in the books. They looked nothing like how he remembers them in the pictures in his books. Two, large, boys, often of a meaty physique. Being a strange here he didn’t want to insult those who had helped him, so he said nothing nor asked them how they became Tweedle and Tweedle Dum.
Alistair, the March Hare, he had also met was not like he had expected him either. A doctor. Not a messenger. Not a king’s aid. A doctor. It made him nervous to say the least, his calm demeanor gave him more anxiety than it gave him comfort. Again he sounded ungrateful and he hated that about himself.

He hated that he embodied ungratefulness. He shouldn’t complain about a person’s occupation, when that occupation is the one that helped him when he was in need. He should be more grateful of the White Queen and those he had met in this White Castle.
He asked and tasked with helping out in the castle as much as he could. He took today to dust every nook and cranny of the castle. It kept him busy. He didn’t mind it. He didn’t mind what felt like an ordinary task in an otherwise unordinary circumstance. His other jobs consisted of helping out the workers, tending to the garden.

He didn’t know if he deserved this kind of forgiveness. He also wasn't so sure if he were alive or dead at current.
He couldn’t ease this guilt. Or shame. This escape didn’t feel much like an escape and felt more like a prison. You’d think he be more happy about being in Heaven or Wunderland. But the reality of the situation is he couldn’t shake this unease.

Whatever this was, a conjuration of his mind, the afterlife, or really a different world. It didn’t comfort him in anyway. It only made a squirming sensation develop in the pit of his stomach. It’s calm only made his guilt nestle deep inside of him. He tried to distract himself with a spot of dust. As if he could bury himself away in an ordinary task in an extraordinary situation.

Kat’s Garden

Elsewhere in Wonderland, a man sat in a meadow of flowers. A meadow of watercolor delight as colors blended together like an artist palette to work with. Cheshire twirled a flower in his hands, he had sat here every morning in the hopes she might come back.

He had never had a feeling for another before and only understood what the Hatter experienced with Alice with Kat. Yet, she was gone. Vanished. Not a trace of her anywhere. As if her existence had faded completely. He had always fade, but he also ended up somewhere else.He could travel anywhere he liked in Wonderland, not constrained by travel or movement, no lock, no doors, or gates could keep him out.
Yet, here he sat feeling a deep sense of melancholy. That was an unusual emotion for him. He experienced many things, but melancholy was not one that he had experienced. At least not for so long. He kept twirling the wilting candy rose in his hand. He’d wait here for as many days as it took to conjure her soul back.

They use to sit here. She’d bring a basket of goodies. The garden seemed dead without her. Cheshire sighed. He’d just sit here a little longer. Maybe this morning would be different than yesterday. He probably knew it wouldn’t. Is this what Hats felt when Alice disappeared?
He could tell right that girl was not Alice? Probably not. So many new Alice’s in Wonderland over the week. He had experienced something else, animosity towards them. Because they were not the one he was waiting for. Each day they came. Some through is twisted maze. None of them were her though.

Curse the new Alice’s who came.

He’d just sit here for a while longer.

Hatter’s Tea Shop- Mercury Cafe

Mercury Cafe had been described by patrons as a bit twisted. He had to admit the chairs had seen better days with twisted spines and legs. The wood floor had seen better days, as panels created zigzags in the floors. Tea on the tab, they said he had a problem though he wasn’t so exact on what that problem was. Behind jars of all the oddities he had found that were foolproof tested to make great tea.

Side effects were various and Alistair had taken down a few of the jars, quoting them dangerous and poisonous. Though none of his patrons had died during the consumption, so he thought Alistair is being overly worried. There was much to celebrate these days. Alice’s came from their world to this one. One of them being his Alice from so long ago.

He had many things to share her, give her, tell her. If hearts could skip, his would be doing so. Now he had reason to take this out. Dusting a jar off and placing it on an empty spot on the shelving behind him, he set out his very own leaves known as Alice’s Brew.

A lull of activity in the morning wasn’t a rare occurrence by any means. It came with the business. Sure, there were some pockets here and there that wandered into the bistro for an easy breakfast, but when half the Wonderlanders spent their mornings working their (not so literal, in some cases) tails off, and when all the good alcohol was locked up tight until noon, a large sum of their profit came from the later hours of the day.

As such, the early hours of the day also tended to be the most generally boring, unless they made the joint decision to go out and use the prime upkeep time to pester the Alices or their fellow Wonderlanders. Which they did, admittedly. A lot. However, with the recent influx of the former, all that kicked aside work had crept up on the Tweedle Twins like some sort of drooling, slothlike beast. Or a Patchsnag. Probably a Patchsnag, if they had to put a beast to the description.

Monster comparisons aside, it was still a lot to get done. Indigo sat at one of the tables, head bowed over the checkbook and receipts and looseleaf paper scattered across the warm wood. Behind her, Percival was dutifully scanning the stock of booze, the ingredients, testing the instruments and appliances and whatnot. Everything that needed to be replaced or replenished, he quickly scribbled down, then moved onto whatever needed to be checked next.

“Okay,” Percival said after a few more rounds. With a grunt, he plopped down into the chair opposite Indigo, legs stretching out to rest on the table- then immediately slipping back down before his heels could even kiss the wood, clacking against the floor and settling there. Had just cleaned the thing, after all. “So. We’re almost out of riesling, and we’re running sorta low on the whiskey. Need to get our hands on some more honey, too.”

“Hmm.” Indigo glanced up at her brother out of the corner of her eye, then squinted at the mountains of paper before her. “Think we can cover that easy. Anything else?”

“Should probably brush up some on our chicken stock. And flour. Maybe a few more batches of eggs, but ‘sides from that, we’re actually doing pretty good supply-wise.” Percival stretched, bringing his arms high above his head, then letting them fall with a thunk. “How’s the cash?”

“No trouble there, either.” Indigo grinned. “Even with all the stuff we need, I’d say we’re still gonna have a nice little bit of extra spending money this season.” That was one of the upsides of Alices popping up- the inevitable boom in business that came with them. Not many knew what was safe to eat in Wonderland and what wasn’t, and there was usually at least a few with a taste for alcohol. A taste that seemed to only grow stronger with all the “weird shit” they saw- to quote one of their guests that had long since gone off to who-knows-where.

The two exchanged some customary hi-fives before settling back, working in tandem to clear the table, replace the mess with fresh sheets of paper, then set out to write the inventory requests.

It was the usual pace of things. Even with the appearance of the latest batch of Alices showing up to shake the boots off Wonderland (especially Eugene, who seemed particularly fixated on a certain blond), work still needed to be done. Life crawled on forward.

Even if both of them would’ve been happy to be doing literally anything else at the moment.

For a week now, Luka Young had been walking through a dream. It felt so real, lacked that slow floaty liquidity of sleep, but nothing he had experienced could possibly have been real. Sooner or later he would wake up in a forest stream, soaked to the bone looking at his friends’ worried faces, with only vague memories that he would rack his brain trying to understand. He would get up, get home to dry off and withstand his parents’ interrogation, and he would continue his life, getting high and going nowhere.

At first, his dream was alien to him, an unsettling departure from reality. It was too bright, too colorful, just too much. Soon enough, though, he found comfort in the odd beauty of it. He started to see it less as a creation of random neuron firings in his drug-addled brain and more as what it really was: Wonderland.

Wonderland, with its vivid colors, gorgeous views, and its people, who didn’t look at him the way most others did.

He wasn’t sure he even wanted to go home.

These were the thoughts that Luka tried to dismiss as he strolled through Wonderland’s streets. He was thankful that he somehow managed to bring his belongings with him when he crossed over. He still had his beloved iPod and his headphones, which were currently situated around his neck, softly serenading the quiet morning.

The music was a welcome distraction, but Luka still found himself drifting back to his last night in his old life.

Campfire. Conversation. Hallucinogens.

Tactless comments. Sudden anger. Departure.

Warmth. Buzzing energy. Laughter.

Breathing. Reaching. Twistingtwisting

Running his hands through his hair, Luka shook himself out of his recollection. Seeing the gaudy colors of the Whimsy Moth Eatery, he picked up his pace.

With a spring in his step, he swung open the bistro’s door and greeted Percival and Indigo.

“Mornin’, guys! How’s things?”

The door of the bistro jingled merrily with Luka’s entrance, although it seemed to take both owners a moment to register that it had even made a sound at all. It was Percival who had looked up from their frantic scribbling first, a wide grin stretching across his face at the sight of their guest. “Well, look who it is,” he crowed. His hand flew forwards to jab at Indigo’s shoulder, only for her to smack it away before it could connect.

Smirking a little to herself (more than a little upon hearing her brother’s mumbled curse), Indigo turned, seeming to visibly pep up.

“If it isn’t Luka!” She hopped to her feet, sauntering over to swing her arm over their guest’s shoulders. She liked the kid. Had picked up a job with them not long ago as a server, and wasn’t half bad at it. Made a good test subject for new cocktails and snacks and whatever, to boot. “Can’t say it’s been a helluva party or anything, honestly. Been working around the shop since the sun came up.”

“You mean ‘sitting around since the sun came up while Perc gets all the hard work out of the way’.” Percival leaned back in his chair- dangerously so- and threw his arm over his forehead with a dramatic groan. “She’s been working me right down to the bone, here! It’s inhumane, Blonds! Downright cruel!”

Indigo rolled her eyes. “Yeah, cause y’know just how backbreaking counting supplies can be. Not like I’ve been slaving over the finances or anything, here.” She gave Luka a hearty smack on the back. “Blonds and I know what a real day’s work is around here, isn’t that right?”

“Oi.” Percival propped the chair back into its normal position, making a face. “I did the finances last time, didn’t I? Have a right to complain, here.”

“We’ve been trading off the job since we got the bistro, Perc.”

“Exactly!”

The two seemed just about on the brink of another argument, speaking with their distinctive rapidness, before they suddenly seemed to remember that they had company. Rising from the table, Percival joined his sister in tossing an arm over Luka’s shoulders, taking the side opposite of Indigo to do so. “Anyway,” he said, “what brings you around, Blonds? Coming in for work?”

“Or for some breakfast or something?” Indigo chimed in. “Can’t officially sell you some wine or anything if that’s what you’re looking for, but I do have a few things whipped up you can taste test for me real quicklike.”

The burning wood crackling in the fireplace was the only audible sound in the throne room. The castle had fallen silent; servants had retreated to their quarters, horses had been brought back to the stable for the night - even the mice seemed to have calmed their squeaking as they scurried down the corridors. Golden candlesticks burned low and gave the room a warm, glow. Seated in a large throne in the middle of the room, the Red King was absentmindedly drawing circles in the air with his wineglass. The man's pale skin was quite the contrast to his dark, ebony hair hanging loosely around his face. His eyes were fixated on a spot on the floor, but his gaze was empty. The Red Guards, the king's personal guards, had been dismissed for the evening. The corners of the room seemed almost naked without their usual red placeholders standing by.

The creaking sound from rusty hinges broke the silence as a door from the servants corridor slowly opened. Emerging through the doorway was a small, well rounded man with a worried look on his face. He treaded carefully towards the king, craning his neck at the throne, which was facing the opposite direction, trying to catch a glimpse of the king. His mood was known to be unpredictable, and the man seemed aware of this.


"E-excuse me, Your Grace..." He stuttered, stopping a good distance from the throne. He took a deep bow, before resuming with a shaky voice. "P-pardon the intrusion, My King. To disturb you at this hour, oh sire, I am t-truly sorry. So very sorry." A brief pause occured once again as the man fidgeted with the hem of his shirt. "It's h-happening again. All over Wonderland - there's b-been spotted several of them! The e-exact number is yet to be obtained, b-but there's more of them than ever before. You t-told us to come straight to you if this should happen, day or night, so... Again, g-great apologies, sire."

"Is that so." Slamming the glass down, the Red King stood up, a wicked smile tainting his lips. With determined steps he closed the distance between him and the servant swiftly. He grabbed his hands in his own gloved ones, bending down level with the man. "Well, what are you waiting for? Wake the others at once! This is what you've been preparing for ever since the last of them disappeared, right? Get to it!" The servant let out a small yelp, quickly covering his mouth at the release of his hands, before he disappeared back through the door he came from.

Ah, so we shall meet again, dear Alice.

"One little, two little, three little idiots..." Pale fingers tipped with blood red nails grazed against the edges of large jars, all full to the brim with a clear liquid. Floating inside were unmistakable organs, arteries and veins ripped clean from its' master. The clicking of heels against tile worked in tune with the feminine voice as the woman made her way to the very end of the wooden shelf. The jars, too many to count, were all lined up in an orderly fashion for her viewing pleasure. As she reached her destination, she slid a newly filled jar onto an empty spot at the end of the counter. Nails etched along the glass as the woman purred with satisfaction. "Welcome home, deary." With a slight giggle, she leaned forward and placed a loving kiss upon the glass. A red lip stain was all she left behind as the woman walked out of the cell.

It took several moments for her to reach the belly of her castle. Looking around at what was once the ballroom, Amorette let out a short groan. She was always happiest while on the hunt, yet that emotion always tended to fade upon returning to her empty nest. Bringing up her left hand, her fingers smoothed over her scarlet curls. The tips of her fingers brushed over the modest tiara nestled within her hair. It was the only object she had left of her childhood royalty. The thought quickly turned her thoughts sour.

With a quick shake of her head, she dropped her hand and scoffed. "I just need something to ease my boredom...and wine. Lots of wine." Amor sauntered into her room and over to her floor-length mirror. She studied her reflection, causing a smirk to tug at the corners of her mouth. The woman was always quite pleased with what she saw. Pale, heart-shape face, deep blue eyes, plump crimson lips. Slim, womanly curves, ample chest, tight waist. All adorned with the very best fabric in all of Wonderland. She was definitely a sight to behold. The dress hugging her body was a deep candy apple red with a high slit all the way to her right hip. The very top curved around the back of her neck and nestled around her abundant cleavage. A pair of jet black heels were strapped around her feet.

Once satisfied with her appearance, Amorette turned and headed out of her castle. Maybe she would see what the twins were up to- besides, Indigo always made sure her favorite wine was fully stocked. It would also help to secure a solid alibi once her masterpiece was discovered.

It didn't take her long to arrive. Strolling into the building, her brow raised in interest towards the young man. An Alice. It took a large amount of self-control to hold back the snarl nipping at her throat. Amor slid her attention from the vile creature to the bar keeps behind him. Placing a hand on a slim hip, she smirked at the duo. "Why, if it isn't my two favorite humans."

Just as before, the door gave a cheerful sort of tinkling, and just as before, both twins’ heads turned in tandem to see who it was, eyes alight with curiosity. Upon seeing who it was, exactly, who had come to visit, the pair shared a sort of measured look between themselves before giving Amorette their usual easy grins. The queen’s flash of malice hadn’t gone without notice.

“Your favorites?” Indigo chirped. “Aww, Queens. Just going and buttering us all up. We’re touched.”

“Makes us feel all fuzzy inside,” Percival said. “Right in here.” He lifted a hand, thumping it against his chest. “Right in the lungs.”

The two split apart, Indigo taking her station behind the bar, Percival hopping into one of the chairs and gathering his neglected viol- fiddle up into his arms. “Not that we’re torn up on you dropping by or anything,” began Percival.

“But you should’ve told us you were heading our way,” Indigo added.

“Would’ve spiffed up the place some.”

“Maybe set up a few balloons here and there. Really class it up around here.”

Percival leaned back, plucking out a few strings. “Anyway, what can we do ya for, Queens? Gonna take a guess and say you didn’t drop by just so you could bask in our charm and devilish good looks.” He grinned.

“Don’t kid yourself, Perc. Got as much “charm” as a dead slug. And the looks to boot.” With deft hands, Indigo swiped one of the bottles from the shelves without so much as a passing glance and thunked it onto the countertop. Chateau Margaux. Amorette’s prediction of the wine being in stock was right on the nail. “Guessing it’s the same old again? Hit me if I’m wrong. Don’t actually hit me, but just- tell me if I can drink it or not, here.”

"10:00, tend to the garden, 11:00, assist the maids, 11:30, check on Ross, 12:00, combat practice..."

Mirana was going over her schedule, in a bit of a rush, really. After more alices started to arrive, she had to make sure to focus more on keeping them safe, and to focus more on her combat training in case she had to fight any one of her stepbrother's soldiers, or really, him in general. Yet with one of said alices staying at her castle, Mira wanted to make sure he was alright during his stay, even if he wished to do more around the castle, it didn't seem right.

With a sigh, Mirana stepped into the garden. Whenever she was stressed, she'd always go there to calm down. Walking over to a bush of white roses, she cupped one of the flowers into her hands, a light smile on her face. The rose then appeared to be stained in blood, turning the petals red. Mira quickly shook the thought out of her head, as the rose appeared normal once more. "I really hope I can get some rest soon..." she said, bringing a hand up to cover her eyes, before looking down and crushing the rose in her hand.

"What are you planing, Rex...?"







Ten years in the asylum.

Ten years Morgan had to endure through various means to cure her of scitzophrenia, ten years she had retreated to her own "Wonderland", and fifteen years since she had witnessed her family's death with her own eyes. Morgan never fully recovered from that event, the fire, the blood, the cleaver in her hands, it was just like yesterday she had killed whoever had taken her family from her. But Morgan knew she had to move on, so on the day she was deemed cured, she was planning on what to do with her life.

Yet that didn't last long.

After she left, Morgan ended up falling into a well chasing a stupid rabbit, but she didn't hit the bottom. Instead, darkness was the only thing she saw, as she fell for what felt like forever, until one by one, there was light. Lanterns of different colors and shapes illuminated the hole, revealing a wooden interior, with different furniture and instruments(?) either sat on tree branches, or floated beside her. Fireflies and other glowing insects flew past Morgan, when a myriad of blue butterflies started to fly around her, changing her outfit to a more vibrant and familiar dress, the apron stained with blood.

Then everything around her caught on fire, burning away as she finally hit the ground, a bit of a rough landing. "Ow..." Morgan groaned, sitting up as she checked the back of her head for any bleeding. Somehow, she was fine.

"Okay, I seriously doubt that a well of all things has another world inside it." She muttered under her breath, standing herself up. Looking around for a moment, she decided to start walking, hoping where she wanders to may have some answers as to where she is. "Maybe this is all in my head. Yeah! Maybe I'm just having some sort of a coma and I'm still in the well, slowly bleeding out of my fractured skull cause of a damn rabbit. Yeah, sooner or later, I'll wake up in a hospital." Morgan talked to herself while she walked, cursing the animal that soon might have gotten her killed, until she noticed a structure in the distance. A red castle.

"Oh, finally, some sign of life!" She sighed in relief, yet something seemed off about the castle. It could've been her instincts telling her not to trust the place, but she wasn't taking any chances. So Morgan checked her apron's pockets, and pulled out a combat knife. "Nice, still got my knifes." She said, before walking to the red castle, a tight grip on her weapon.

Delicate hands dug into the earth, soil running between her fingers as she searched for the bottom of the root and pulled at the unwanted object. A single weed resting in her palm as she placed it with the others, in the pile she had created for them. The candy roses would appreciate the gesture even if she couldn’t get to the whole garden in one go and she wasn’t who they really wanted. It had been so long since Kat’s disappearance that the garden had been in quite a stir when she had arrived to help, only Chess could seem to calm them. He grieved like they did for the loss of her. The garden had at least accepted Willow, showing kindness for her efforts for them but most were not so lucky anymore such as that Alice which arrived here a week ago.

It was why Willow had decided to stay at Kat’s home. This way, she could keep everything in good shape and it would be exactly as the other woman had left it if she worked hard enough. Willow would only use the guest room during her stay and wouldn’t have to live at the castle which was more awkward now then it use to be. Kat had always been welcoming to others and knew that she wouldn’t mind. Chess had even said she could when Willow had asked but she knew he hadn’t been completely alright with it. It was why she always stayed away from that section of garden in the mornings as he needed some kind of normal. He needed this time alone. She just hoped that one day, his waiting would get an answer.

A soft frown made her way to her face as she thought of how Chess must feel, her bunny ears twitching a bit under the bandana that was currently covering them and holding back a flood of white fluffy hair that spilled down to her mid back. Normally it would be in a bun or ponytails to try and tame the marshmallow fluffiness that was her hair but when gardening she found a bandana was the best way to go. Willow brushed her hands on the gardening apron, pushing herself up as she start to gather her supplies before looking up at the sky with a raised arm to block the rays. Amethyst eyes glanced to the positioning of the sun and figured that it was probably still early enough to get some breakfast but the twins place might be packed at this time of day. She was well stocked on tea so a trip to Mercury Cafe wouldn’t be needed yet but maybe Mira might need something delivered or to be checked up on.

The White Queen was sweet and cared for all those in her kingdom but often forgot to take care of herself. Willow did not deserve forgiveness and still felt strange around the other woman but checking on her helped ease her guilt. It must also be more stressful with all the Alice’s that had arrived. Not all Alice arrivals meant joy for everyone. Willow was sure that Mira worried about their protection from the other fighting forces of the war. She didn’t really trust the new Queen Of Hearts as anyone to take up that mantle must be as horrible but Rex would never harm an Alice. That was one thing Willow even knew for sure.

She untied her apron and pulled it off before taking her supplies to the shed. It would not take all that long to get to the White Castle if she took the cobble stone path and with that she placed her hands behind her back, walking with a little skip in her step as she enjoyed this fine morning. It was so sunny and it felt so nice with just a slight breeze to ward off too much heat. It seemed like this was the start of a fine day so far and hoped it would only get better from here. Heck, she might even go visit a certain someone today if he wasn’t too busy. He could always be on a mission though which was understandable. After while, she made her way up to the beautiful gates that held a pristine ivory castle with dazzling gardens that could rival Kat’s in some ways alone. Her head instinctively nodded to the guards, when she actually was too lost in thought to notice them guarding the gates. Willow was already wondering into the castle, heading for the throne room which was silly as even she knew the garden was a better bet here. It was a different royal that was mostly found in the throne room.

Warm rays of sunlight was shining in though the dirty windows of the library. Not a sound could be heard from the inside. No signs of life at all except for a cup of tea with a crumbled biscuit laying next to it. Layers of dust covering most surfaces made it seem unhabituated. The other half of the biscuit could be found by following a trail of crumbles towards a large, wooden cabinet, door slightly ajar. "Wha- That noise- Who-" Both doors burst open as a man leaped outside. Not so much leaped as stumbled, tripping on a blanket that also came tumbling out with him. He steadied himself on a nearby table, regaining his balance, before making his way towards one of the giant bookshelves.

"Shh, shh, shh. Hey, what's the matter now?" A gentle voice cooed. "Was mister Heathcliff bothering you again?" He sighed, and mumbled. "That guy really needs to get some stuff sorted out…" Nimble fingers pulled out a book from the shelf. "Let's find you a nice, new home with better neighbours than that." He cradled the book in one arm, the other hand running along the spine of rows and rows of books. "Too rude. Too cushy. To dead, yuck. Too opinionated. Too sweet." He came to a halt. "Ah, this might do…" Squeezing the book into the row, the man smiled to himself. "Seems like a good fit to me. Let me know if you disagree, now." He skipped back to the counter with the teacup and tossed the biscuit into the air, before capturing it with his mouth and humming gleefully.

A little mouse, who'd just finished cleaning the floor from crumbles, came crawling up the man's leg - all the way up to his shoulder. It whispered something in his ear, before giving him a deep bow, disappearing the same way it came from. The brunet took a deep breath. "What would I do without you little scouts." He leaned back in his seat, staring up at the ceiling. "So the Alice's are back, huh. I always miss something important during my naps…"

A loud yell was rumbling through the Red Castle. "No! No, no, NO! This is all wrong." The red monarch was facing an empty wall, hands clenched in fury. "This was supposed to be garnet and you imbeciles have painted it what? Mahogany?!" He touched three fingers to his forehead, taking a deep breath. Two workers were standing a good distance behind him, holding their paint brushes behind their backs, trying to hide their trembles. With a whirl, Rex turned to face the two men. "You must think I am a fool." Slowly, Rex moved towards the unlucky two. Speaking in a thoughtful manner, he continued. "Yes. That must be it. You thought I would not notice the difference. Correct?" He shaked his head as a haunting laugh escaped his lips. "I do not tolerate mockery." He spat. "Guards!" Five red guards entered the room, the nearest ones gripping the two workers. "Consider this an opportunity to reflect. Reconsider." Rex turned towards the wall again, the smell of fresh paint still in the air. "Now get them out of my sight." The monarch waved his hand in a tired fashion. The workers were put in shackles and dragged down the hall in complete silence. There was no point in pleading - a fact they knew all too well.

"What am I supposed to do." He sighed to himself, once he was alone in the room. "I do my best everyday, but they still try to ruin my hard work." Rex walked closer to the wall, staring at it for a few seconds before a clenched hand collided with it. A grimace formed on his pale face, but no sound was made. "What a waste of air."

Rex rubbed his sore hand absentmindedly as he walked down a pathway in between the blooming flowers in the royal garden. It was a beautiful day with sunshine, birdsong and buzzing bees bumbling by. Although the monarch seemed completely unfazed by it all. He kept his eyes on the ground, furrowed brows as if deep in thought. Further and further into the garden he went. The greenery had a calming effect on his nerves - not that he would admit it to anyone, mind you. That's when he noticed something. Or rather - a somebody. The king lifted a hand up to his forehead to block the sun and squinted his eyes. "Who goes there? Speak up." He demanded in a loud, clear voice. Not threatening, yet, but with an obvious hint of annoyance.

Luka didn’t even try to hide his grin as Percival and Indigo greeted him. He chuckled at the twins’ bickering, feeling comfortable in a way he rarely did. Moments like this were the ones that made him almost forget about his old life; when his outgoing mask stopped being a mask at all. It hadn’t been long, but he was already starting to consider this place home. More of a home, at least, than his parents’ house.

He shook himself out of his sentimental feelings quickly. He had come for work, but food was a tempting offer.

“Can I say both? I’m gonna say both.”

Luka didn’t recognize the woman who entered the restaurant, but from her dress and the way she carried herself, he could tell she was someone important. He tried to put on his friendliest face, but the look she gave left him feeling intimidated. Like an ant before a god.

The twins referred to her as “Queens” and everything fell into place. Their easy demeanors put him at ease, though, and he took a seat at the bar, not bothering to remove the headphones still playing music from around his neck.

“Anything you’ve got for me to taste test, I’m ready for it!”
