Lady luck seemingly didn’t discriminate, between the sinners and the saints as the cerulean joker darted back into vantage, from another angle, preparing to hurl two further spikes of Eldritch energy at the same rosy construct. Her movements curved furiously and fell with expired exhalation, between the Beholder and her Noriam, as she circumvented the left flank of the tigress. Unknowingly aware of the druidic attempts of imparted metamorphosis, a fish swam past the big blue cat's extended paw, halting with wide juxtaposed eyes, while Koan splashed by, ignorant of the polymmorphing fiasco.

Cynthia had declared a kraken was fast approaching, all in the face of being surrounded.

"Oh shit! Hold on, girl! We got you!"

Soon, paradoxical pulses of paralysis oozed away from the clown towards the templar, in efforts and aspirations, to hopefully immobilize the gears of war.

The Kraken, seeing its prey in sight, swam forward towards Cynthia. With a flurry of tentacles, blows lashed out on all sides, hitting Cynthia for a total of 56 necrotic damage. The kraken then opened its maw, biting down on its prey for 14 slashing damage, reduced to 7 from Cynthia's rage. Two of the tentacles wrap around Cynthia, grappling her and keeping her from moving.

Seeing that the Kraken was not something to be trifled with, Jill darted forward, not fearing for her own safety. Calling on the power of the heavens, she slammed her foot into the ground as a wave of energy blasted forth, slamming into all three foes for 19 thunder damage and 16 radiant damage. "Shrug it off!" she calls out to Cynthia, which unsurprisingly was not as effective a healing word as she might have been able to use.

So... Koan and Jill have brought themselves into the fray. Cynthia charged in screaming to attack a mass of writhing muscle. The tiger had turned the prisoner into a fish and back. And a burned tongue sought to taste the blood in the waters. To battle then. Sword of shadows drawn and ready, the bloodlust in his burning eyes betraying the nature of his injuries. Death was a possibility, seeing how the great beast had attacked their mer guide. From there perhaps they would lose against so terrible a beast, far greater guardians than those they had encountered in the open sea. Of which the flailing tentacles made the warlock raise a brow at Dyn once his dark lady Koan had shrugged back from her place between them. A slight head nudge towards the gloried squid should have been enough of a jest for the beholder, surely the ego of Dyn would urge the 'perfect' being to attack an tentacular rival.

Swimming forward from tactical cover, the umbramancer rushed forward into the fray, once more the cloak billowing in the waves like the wings of a manta. Casting a quick glance at Jill who seemed to be harm and heal, commanding others at will, he wondered what she would think if he unleashed the darkness within him and show her the black feathers of his soul. Then like the Dracula of the seas, a thirst for blood and darkness in his glare. These animatronics seemed empty, hollow without the sensation of pain, how lackluster. But seeing the ravaging the kraken's tentacles did on the raging fish girl, well perhaps it did tickle the sadist's interest to feel those hooks tear into his flesh. But for now they had to defeat the templars, with what little energy he had left, a few spells still stored in his ring to hopefully protect him from his chosen opponent's wrath and save himself for the octopod. Thus a wispy dark saber slashed the construct from right to left, striking true as the blade cut across, yet the backswing was far less successful as the horizontal stroke failed to connect as the swordsman attempted to ready his guard to intervene between the next attacks.

As Noriam swam closer, it seemed the Gearforged was ready, striking out at him as he approached. However, the glaive flew wide, missing its target before it took a fatal blow, as the last light of life flickered from its eyes.

Cynthia, a bit surprised at the fury of the kraken, still kept her attention on the weaker foe before her, but with the tentacly mass holding her down, couldn't maneuver her Levinsword well enough to land a blow. There was some other emotion in her eyes as she looked back to the others. A small amount of fear, but also determination.

The remaining Gearforged had no such issues with emotion, and it swung the glaive towards Cynthia three times, hitting with all three for 24 damage, reduced to 12 from her rage. The merfolk was starting to look rough.

The state of Cynthia just wouldn't do, not for this tiger, not at all. Clearly displeased by what was happening with the woman who had decided to rush on ahead to fight some inhuman creatures on her own, Adrevz moved forward. When she stopped, she was in between Normian and Cynthia in a diagonal sense, allowing the Druid to place a paw on the other merfolk, no way she was letting her die yet. Nope. Wasn't allowed. She would much rather just eat the construct, as bad as an idea that that was, than let her companion die to the hands of creatures with no soul. Hopefully the new addition to the group would be useful, she really hadn't wanted to waste such a good spell on someone who couldn't get out of a prison, but it just couldn't be helped. As soon as the Huge paw came in contact with Cynthia, the other woman could feel some of her wounds knitting closed, a bit more energy rolling into her beaten body as Adrevz healed her for 18. She would continue to fight for now, and Adrevz would eventually have to sink some teeth into a creature or two to help everyone get out of there without dying. Well, maybe not teeth as it became very noticable to the Tiger that she just couldn't fit properly thanks to a dead body and the two with her. Letting out a sigh that resulted in a comically large bubble, she shifted back into her normal form. It was the first time anyone else would have seen it as they had only ever seen her in her tiger form, as she liked to remain in it as often as possible for ease of defense. No, now she was back to her normal self, stretching out her arms and... well... fin. It wasn't uncomfortable to be in this form, she just preferred the protection of her Tiger form, though this did allow her to use the belt she always wore.

Everyone. Just. Had. To. Stand. In. The. Way. Dyn'yer'zhead grit his teeth together and his tentacles clutched the magical cutlass with redoubled intensity. If it need happen, he would weave between his allies to find the spot from which he could act. At least, if nothing else, they had managed to fell one of the opposing guardians, leaving him with less targets to fit in his crosshairs. And so the Beholder rushed into movement, passing Jill by her right side and squeezing into the thick of things between the suspicious 'Sauron' and his now more familiar looking daughter. At the spot where the metal pieces of the felled opponent still float idly, his eyepatch began shining once more.

This time, it was not his teeth that would spark, but many of his eyes joined the patch's glow, the energy gathering brilliant white in its intensity. He called upon his magic and magic answered, the bolt of electricity striking against the wall of the hallway beyond the corner. On its way, it scorched the pile of metal with all it could, while the Kraken was marginally luckier with its tentacles avoiding the worst. Yet a few of them still ended up fried and chopped bits of it were left behind, floating lazily in the water. Dyn wasn't one to stay behind though, for he was not currently under the influence of his defensive magic. It was for the best to retreat a bit to the direction he had originally come from. The Kraken disagreed with this decision and in one jerking motion snapped its beak at the Beholder, scraping wounds onto his surface.

The forced transformation from human to fish was jarring enough for the woman, the second transformation back to human form was dizzying to say the least. The blonde woman was glad that she had managed to swim out of the cell while she was just a fish. After shaking her head to clear away the sensation, she looked to the side to see a giant squid and two hunks of metal armor, one lying on the ground as a pile, and the other standing/swimming.

She quickly studied her surroundings. The walls were too smooth, there was nothing she could use to their advantage. She wanted to swim up and help free the mermaid who was stuck in the giant squid's grasp, but she could tell that the mermaid was raging and could probably get out on her own. So, it looks like the best she could do was help get rid of the last swimming automaton. She swam up to take position near Jill, in hopes of being able to protect her in case any attacks came her way.

Once she took position, she took the rock in her hand, and then looked at the automaton. She shouted "Hey! PEA-BRAIN!" before she threw the rock at the armor. From the sound of the rock colliding with the armor, it sounded like she at least dented it. She then grasped the staff with both hands and prepared herself to fight.

The insane clown, entertained by the fray of metal and the pickle of pendulous tentacles, swam while pointing with lone index fingers and cocked thumbs, another quartet of Eldritch Blasts at the adorable Kraken, wreaking havoc on their mergirl guide. The first two measly missles rifled against the squishy thorax, while the second duo whiffed, due to the recoil from her dominant arm, exaggerated, of course, by the buffoon's bouncy dramatics.

"Aw, shucks. Missed!!! Darn it!" Her elbow swept before her like a guillotine, as if slighting an overdue decapitation.

Her soborific somber was quickly quelled by witness one of the Gearforged slain, promoting another novel notion.

"Ooh, I always wanted to be a knight."

She began to march in place, wading and staring at her mate in shadowy armor. Abruptly, plates of patchy ice began to adorn the shivering cyanotic jester, protecting her with frosty palisades recursively cascading like evergreen leaves returning to a blueberry bush in a forced autumn, all in preparation of piercing the pandemonium, with and for a playful peripetia.

As the crew approached the kraken to take it down, the mighty foe lashed out, attacking all within range. Its tentacles that clung to Cynthia squeezed tightly, dealing 33 bludgeoning damage (halved to 16), while a pair of tentacles each lashed out at Noriam, Adrevz, and Alexis, all hitting. All three are grappled, and Cynthia is now restrained. Noriam takes 22 necrotic damage, Adrevz takes 23 necrotic damage, and Alexis takes 18 necrotic damage. In addition, the kraken's beak reaches out to strike Adrevz, dealing 10 slashing damage.

This fight was going downhill fast. "Hang on, everyone!" Jill called out, and with a burst of radiant light, the water around them became infused with healing energy, easing the wounds of each ally nearby for 20 HP. She then looked towards Noriam, offering a smile. "I believe in you!" she called out. "I see the light is still inside you. Grasp it, and break free!"

Dire tidings. This would not end well. This glorified tentacular beast had lashed out on all sides, striking with dark tendrils not unlike Noriam's own shadow lash. The tickle of the necrotic embrace, washing over the fallen Aasimar like a familiar caress. The bittersweet pain of bloody binding, caught in a tug of war, the darkness entwined like the tethering chains which bound his tarnished light. His sword arm caught like by Promethean chains, struggling to free himself from the pull as burning eyes watched Koan's cyanosis turn into the frigid frost for frozen finery freely flowing flakes armed arctic armor anticipating adversarial attacks and amorous adventures? Snow maiden to a tzar. Her spells would blast them away from afar, and his blade would reap their pitiful lives. What a team they could make, if it were not for this accursed Kraken who may devour all of them yet. The even the raging merfolk seemed to be a little worse for wear, having taken the brunt of all the attacks thus far, 'Sauron' was unsure how much fight their guide had left in her should the monster keep squeezing her in a death choke, was it a strange envy perhaps?

Yet even in the darkness, there was light. For a shadow cannot exist in total darkness. Only in the light does it take form, embodying the innate darkness behind every light. As such it was his epithet, the shadow, for there is both darkness and light within the umbramancer. Jill's healing spell bathed them all in the blessed light, a gentle presence that felt so strange to one who reveled in pain. Yet it was not quite enough. Even Jill's belief in his inner light could not break the hold of darkness, if not even his celestial guide could pull him back, then how could her agent? Gritting his teeth by and by, still the dark one wrestled with the tendrils, caught and bound by the tethers to his tainted soul.

Not yet ready to embrace the light within. Still the other aasimar struggled alone. Devil and Angel upon his shoulders. And silenced still from the injuries to his silver tongue. Was it hopeless?

The kraken thrashed wildly, decimating Cynthia's new allies. As the tentacles reached out for Adrevz, Cynthia gave a guttural shout and a protective spiritual barrier surrounded the druid for a brief instant as the kraken bit into her, blocking out some of the damage. Cynthia then flexed against the tentacles binding her, breaking the kraken's grasp on her. "It's not over! Keep fighting!" she shouted.

The Templar steps forward into the midst of the grappled foes, and spun its glaive in a wide arc. In fact, it seemed the entire top half of his torso spun in a 360, a whirlwind of blade cutting through every foe. Noriam, Alexis, Adrevz, Cynthia, and the kraken must make a DC 16 DEX save or take 15 slashing damage (7 on a fail). Cynthia and the Kraken fail their saves.

She had two options, either try to get out of the Kraken's grasp, or introduce him to some 8 tentacled friends of her own. Only problem? There wasn't much room for them it seemed and it would get very crowded, very fast, Giant Octopi had a tendency of taking up a lot of space. Then again, there was room for her hunter shark, but she rather have something that could grapple this thing that had her in it's stupid suction-cupped hold. "I am starting to like it here less and less," she muttered under her breath as she opted for the two Giant Octopi that would end up taking up the other route coming from the opposite side of the Kraken. They were squishy, but they would work as a distraction... she hoped. Puffing out her cheeks, she did her best to look towards where she wanted these Giant creatures to appear and cast her spell, using up that last of her level three spells. They were definitely going to need to rest somewhere after this monstrosity was taken care of, too many people were injured and she was not about to let Cynthia continue onward with the wounds she had received. As the Spell cast, one Octopus appeared right next to the Kraken, and then the other right behind that one, she couldn't think of any other creatures worth bringing forward. Sure, they weren't anything special but at least they had the ability to grab things as well. Luckily enough, she had a good feeling that she would get at least one use out of the things before the Kraken's next attack, but here was to hoping that she got more than that... much more. "Attack!" she shouted to the Octopi she had summoned.

The recent developments had been... interesting. Dyn had expected them, there was no doubt about that. After all, he had deliberately avoided getting grappled by moving back a bit. What he had not expected was that nearly everyone else would be dumb enough to rush forward into the creature's waiting tentacles. For all that it was worth, this thing was no real kraken. Much too small. A spawn at best, though that meant they would not need to bring an entire fleet of pirates to do battle with it either. There was no need for a hasty retreat. After all, how could the perfect being be seen running from a stunted marine creature?

The crystal decorated eyepatch Dyn'yer'zhead used as his arcane focus glimmered once more as his magic began flowing through it. The Beholder's sonorous voice that always accompanied it speaking in its own native language rang out in the water as he ordered the opposing monstrosity to cease all movement. The magical energy shot off from his focus and embedded itself to the deepest reaches of the creature, flashing out along its surface and freezing every muscle of the would-be kraken. The Beholder grinned. That should tip the scales.

The blonde may have been a little overconfident in moving to the fray. With her cloak that projected another image of her, and a shield, she thought she that she would have been able to avoid the tentacles. Sadly, that was not the case. She found herself in the tentacle's grasp. Just when she thought she was going to be devoured alive, the tentacle seemed to stop and twitch. She took the opportunity to pull herself out of the tentacle. She looked to the side, and noticed that the aasimar was in terrible shape. Considering the beast wasn't moving, she figured that nobody really needed her to help them out. So, the best she could do for now, was give him one of her healing potions.

She took the flask off of her belt, and pulled it out from under her cloak. She handed it to him saying, "Here. You look like you need this more than I do right now!"

She then moved back to swim adjacent to the beholder. Unless she could find a weakness or somehow use the environment around her to fight back, she wasn't sure what else she could do to help. Her staff was probably not going to help against that automaton. She wanted to be of help right, especially since they just got her out of that prison. For now, she needed her cloak to get itself working again. Now would be a terrible time to get careless.

The brawl beckoned her.

In the buffoon’s humming sight whirled a rhapsody of tentacles and blades, all professional temptresses tormenting her lover and Jill’s acquaintances. Ersatz, from curling pin-ups on the more than damp cavern walls to the ragged stalagmites in these unmined quarries, breathed of crude improvision. The crew of the S.S. Lady Slipper, unbeknownst to the lesser blue bard, had already made their fortunes, while she and Noriam had made.

Out.

Now, it was her time, frigid with the stunning beauty of pain and the heat of battle, spouting and repeating a phrase with a click of her heels.

“Like Rilauven. There’s no place like Rilauven. There’s no…”

To prove her worth.

She skated like a dwarven wraith fit of elvish ancestry, stiff-necked, but dressed in slippery ice, redolent with frustration, vanity, and doom. Like a waning cigar in the night, her feet quickly slithered up to the Templar, waving her rapier like a relay runner’s baton.

“Hey, chrome dome!!! Wanna hear a joke?” Not waiting for a gauged response, the frosty clown continued. “Why was the Werebat scared to fly outside?”

She reflexively paced away, back to the enemy, only to allow a natural and dramatic pause to the jest, but the yarn was ruined by an interrupting blow. Luckily, the Agathysian armor intercepted without much an ado.

However, a quick pivot and an about-face soon revealed that her punch line had no recipient, as her eyes haphazardly gazed at the Templar prone and unconscious.

“What the???" The whimsical rogue stomped her feet out of frustration. "No fair.”

Like a restless bee, glazed nostalgic, searching for the to and fro, Koan became suddenly relieved in realizing the Kraken, seemingly listening to her.

“Phew. So, and you Touchy-Feely, what do you think?”

The cerulean geisha again waited, but her audience didn’t even waver a consideration, perhaps paralyzed by the fear of ruining the pun. No longer patient, the rapier rumbled with a booming verve.

“Sheesh!”

As the comic felt cheated with the tough crowd, she swiped gingerly, but missed out of sheer angsty weariness. The next scored with the blade skewering deep into the baby titan.

“Cuz every cloud has a silver lining. Come on, people.”

Thankfully, the two Octopi that had been summoned by the Druid seemed to head her call to attack, as the first quickly lashed out shortly after Koan attacked the great beast. With a quick strike, the sea creature lashed out at the Kraken at first, only to soon have it wrapped in all 8 tentacles, holding the paralyzed creature in its grasp dealing a total of 24 damage and initiating grapple. Sure the Kraken and the Octopus were the same size, but the Octopus had more legs, and therefore more coverage as is completely secured the creature in its hold, rendering itself useless unless it wished to release the creature. That was ok though, because there was a second and it took the time to lazily move over the heads of the others, tentacles occasionally brushing against a head or a shoulder... (pretty sure there is a joke some where in here about an octopus looking like a beholder or a beholder looking like an octopus, but lets not tell Dyn'zer'head about that). Once in position, this Octopus also lashed out, though it was clear it did so with much more force than the first as the crack of the tentacle rang out under the water dealing 22 for max damage but does not grapple. Maybe Adrevz should have been more specific and had it attack the construct? Not that it mattered, because the creature lazily floated back to it's position behind its counterpart, as if it knew there just wasn't enough room for it's dangling tentacle-y body to just float above them all should it decide to grab onto the Kraken as well. Sure, they weren't exactly smart creatures, but instinct telling them there just wasn't room to strangle their prey worked just as well.

How very anticlimactic. He had only just forced the creature to cease and now it already collapsed, its paralysed muscles losing their strength and flopping idly within the water. Bubbles formed in front of Dyn's mouth as he mimicked a snort and looked around himself. The 'detachment' that had wandered into the clutches of the mini-kraken was looking rough around the edges, with the exception of the octopodes that had arrived via druidic magic. Now, in most cases Dyn would not have cared much. They were serviceable and Jill was not among their numbers. But while he most certainly could press on, he felt his power had increased. And to best facilitate that, a brief or perhaps even slightly longer respite would be in order.

Oh, and his daughter was among those who had been on the receiving end of the beatdown. That was a matter he would also have to consider.

He swam to the side of the de jure captain and poked at the lifeless corpse of the creature his magic had held in place just a moment ago. The touch of Tradewind didn't bring up any surprises, so all would be good for now. "Dead it is. Threat is dealt with", he declared and took a look further down the corridor. With nothing visibly crawling, swimming, floating or otherwise approaching them, he turned back around and addressed everyone of the group. "Now, we shall take a moment to recuperate. An exhausted pawn is a useless pawn", he made his call and began making his way back to the room of treasure they had passed a while ago.

As he was passing Adrevz, the merfolk daughter of his took to swimming on his side for a moment and they exchanged a few words. She wanted someone to take a more thorough look at her new bracelet as she had chosen to use it. Dyn himself would have done the deed in a heartbeat if he had the tools for it. After all, there would be no better way of knowing for sure what it was than doing so. But lacking the pearl, that would fall upon the other spellcaster with said ability. And that would leave him with more time to scribe some of the new spells into his spellbook. "Jill, could you spare a moment? This item might need a more thorough look", he requested.

As Dyn garnered Jill's attention, she nodded and withdrew the pearl from her pack. "It will take me a few minutes, but I can gladly identify it. I will need to take the necklace, of course." Jill retrieved the jewelry and began concentrating on it, humming a tune to herself as she leaned against the wall of the cavern, floating lightly in the water. About eleven minutes later, she began to get a more complete picture of the item's properties, which she shared with the group.

This was a Necklace of Elemental Fury (requires attunement by a spellcaster), and each bead contained a spell effect for a different element. There were seven orbs in the necklace: Red for Fireball, Orange for Melf's Acid Arrow (as a level 3 spell), Yellow for Lightning Bolt, Green for Stinking Cloud, Blue for Sleet Storm, Black for Vampiric Touch, and White for Spirit Guardians. As an Action, one can pull one of the beads from the necklace and cast the spell appropriate for the color bead. At dawn each day, up to 1d6+1 used beads return (in order of the colors listed above). If all seven beads are depleted, roll 1d20. On a 1, the necklace turns nonmagical and loses all properties.

The blonde watched as the Beholder paralyzed the Kraken, and allowed Jill to go in for the killing blow. The blue skinned woman had also taken care of the automaton with ice, and she watched as both enemies sunk to the ground ever so slowly. She kept her eyes on it warily, as though expecting it to pop back up and attack again as though it had pretended to have died. But thankfully, that didn't happen after a few moments. She turned her attention to the beholder and Jill as he handed a necklace over for Inspection. She listened quietly as Jill told everyone what the necklace was and what it did. Apparently it was something that the blonde wouldn't be able to use. That was a shame.

As everyone seemed to be settling down for a rest, she thought that this was a good chance for her to speak with them. She swam up to the beholder, mermaid, and Jill, and she spoke to them and the other members of the group, sincerity clear in her voice,
