Realistically, those "alpha" characters would be the ones who most likely survive. They are trained, efficient and mentally more capable than most. Az

Aye. In a book I read, they had a great saying that went something like this:

You're either really stupid lucky to survive an apocalypse, or you're very skilled, and very lucky.
Problem is, you can't count on luck.

In the first few months, the lucky will usually survive. They might get into a good group of survivors, people who can protect them, etc. But as the months wear on, the people who are only lucky begin falling, cause the dice have no memory. Those who live learned new skills quickly to become somewhat skilled and lucky.

Realistically, the walkers are going to be hardened survivors after 9 months of fighting, running, and surviving. The CDC group is where you will find the "Lucky" people. There of course will be "nests" of preppers, shelter-folk, out there as well.

I completely agree that you have to be skilled, smart, quick, fast, strong and everything else...

But that doesn't mean you have to be a soldier/police officer/SWAT/criminal to be any of the above. Fitness in the natural selection sense, I feel, can't be tied to your main occupation. There's plenty of office workers/toilet cleaners/coaches/shopkeepers/students/teachers/salespersons/couch potatoes/etc I know who'd make good survivors. Physical and mental traits aside, they'd have something going on the side and things like that too. E.g: There are plenty of young girls who could outpace me in a half-marathon anytime. Now that would come in handy when you're running from a horde of flesh-eating zombies. :D Which also means they could easily ditch me to them :D

P.S: Will post a flashback post soon.

Heh, never said they had to be police officers, soldiers, etc either. My character definitely isn't.

But for many people, they are either writing the easy route, trying to get the most "powerful" character they can to have an advantage. IE, their character will know more about what it is they are doing, than the player themselves; weapons operation and maintenance, survival skills, etc.

The other "many people group" as I see it, are probably the people who are just writing what they know. A lot of people in the military turn to RPGs to kill the downtime when deployed. They know how to play a military-type character, and can do it well, so some will continue to play a military-type character in game. I've known several current, and former military men who do this.

The smaller group, I think....are people like me who know more than most about firearms, weapons, etc, and seek an outlet. I'm just all hipster and hate being cliche :P

Personally I think that farmers would have the greatest chance of survival in an apocalyptic scenario.

While a person (or, in this case, character) doesn't have to have a background in the military or similar fields in order to be capable of surviving an ordeal like this, I believe it certainly helps and that the percentage of military personnel/similar among now (when the RP takes place, I mean) living people is far higher than it would have been before the outbreak.

After all, while any accountant, waitress or football coach may be a natural survivor and combatant, every soldier is a trained one. It's just logical that, percentage wise, a greater number of people who undergoes applicable physical and mental training in their jobs survives for a longer time in a setting like this, and I think it's good that the cast in this RP reflects that.

While not all characters need to be cops, military or survivalists, I'm just going to kill anyone I don't deem worthy of survival.

Starting with you.

You know who you are.

Just joking.

.....or am I?

And Anima, don't worry. You're good. Outbreak timelines would differ place to place.

In case anyone's character needs to know how to eat an orange in the context of this rp, use this for reference.

Lol. It could be metaphorical. He does like to pick people apart, know who they really are, eat them in that sense.

Or he could literally be eating people O.o

Guess we'll find out :P

With the zombie apocalypse we can never know if it's metaphorical or literal... The context makes both equally possible XD

I thought Abel is just going crazy. The shifts from scene to scene in odd ways make me think a lot of his views are distorted perceptions and thoughts.

Just my opinion.

Actually that's how I saw him too after I wrote the first scene. It was really difficult to finish my second post because I had to make it seem like that's just how he sees the world. I wanted to portray someone who isn't crazy but actually functions like that. But then every time I started writing for him, the crazy just flowed. I had him clapping and laughing at nothing before i rewrote the entire post.

He comes off more dangerous the way he is now than they way I had him.
