@Fabricant451 DmC's combat was no worse than Devil May Cry 1 or ANY of those piece of shit darksiders games.

Devil May Cry 1's combat was miles better than DmC's combat. DmC turned the combat into a flow-interrupting game of match the colors.

the colour matching thing doesn't come up in combat as much as you are trying to imply, and the variety of weapons are more interesting than what Devil May Cry 1 had.

Devil May Cry's combat is functional and flashy but hollow. It's literally the Ready Player One of combat systems.

Variety doesn't mean shit if the combat system surrounding it is dull as drywall, nor does variety mean anything if half the arsenal is useless outside of specific instances, aka color coded enemies that exist solely to limit the combo potential and interrupt the flow that is intrinsic to the Devil May Cry design. Dante in DmC is slower and the gameplay isn't balanced around its systems. DmC is about crowd control and mashing while Devil May Cry was more about killing solo enemies - that's why the puppet enemies were like paper and the harder stuff came at you in groups of two or less. DmC realizes this which is why your 'style meter' is less about actual combos and more about just doing damage. It's a bad combat system for people that like Devil May Cry but a good one for people who thought Agni and Rudra were too difficult because oh no two bosses at once.

DmC fundamentally misunderstood the entire point of its namesake.

Using the sword spin to hold an enemy in place while you swap to the gauntlets to launch into air combo juggle with the shotgun, or shifting between Devil Trigger for further mobility or even just taunting to both continue a combo and fill the Devil Meter is hardly 'hollow'. It's not as flashy and mechanical as the later games, but having easier inputs and fewer weapons doesn't make it any less rewarding. Devil May Cry was solid, DMC 3 enhanced it, and DMC 4 perfected it. Even with its dated mechanics, DMC 1 is still a better combat system than DmC.

Ninja Theory is functional and flashy but hollow. That's their entire design philosophy. "Look pretty and do little else."

I think I spent the most time with either Dynasty Warriors 3, 4, and 5. A lot of good memories, atrocious voice acting (which steadily improved) or not. Honestly, I think my favorite Dynasty Warriors title is probably Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires over all of them and that's a side title.

5 I didn't like so much for whatever reason, except for Ma Chao because Ma Chao was a goddamn tank of tanks. Never played 3, I almost rented it once but at the time I was a very focused kid who had a very focused desire... that was Dynasty Warriors 2. Lmao, I don't even know why. 4 is the one I probably played most tho. I wouldn't mind a 4 remake with awesome graphics simply because there were more battles. Still. DW2 speaks to me... probably because of that vibrant coloring for uniforms. BRIGHT BLUE. BRIGHT RED. BRIGHT GREEN. God I love it. *goes to play DW2, yes I do have it laying around here*

Hm... What else needs to be said here. Ah, yes...

And goddamn, let me tell you. You beat Lu Bu and think, fuck yeah, I've beaten the motherfucker of all motherfuckers in this game. Buuuttt then you get to He Fei on the Wu Campaign and you remember Zhang Liao being not so hard to beat but sometimes a little annoying.

But nooooooo, in He Fei he's the friggin' second coming of Lu Bu the destroyer of controllers. Gives you that +10 Attack when you kill him too.

Need I also point out the HORRIFYING nature of ARROWS in DW2? Ah, what a game. What a game.

The appeal of musou gameplay has never been killing a million dudes for me, though it's certainly nice. They're just there to built meter for what I'm really supposed to be doing; criss-crossing the battlefield completing objectives, dealing with unexpected complications, and putting out fires (sometimes literally, freaking Wu.) It's what makes a musou game you want to replay. You don't just want to win a battle, you want to figure out how to win that battle perfectly.

It's probably just me but I think Tokyo Mirage Session #FE is a bit underrated the battle style is just a flat out ripoff of the Persona games though the story is pretty clever it's a bit hard to follow

Ninja games are underrated. I hope Team Ninja don't follow From Software in the vein of abandoning a cool game with ninjas (DOA/Ninja Gaiden & Tenchu) to soley focus on the Dark Souls Gravy Train (Nioh). There are literally more Dark Souls Clones then there are Dark Souls games at this point, I think we can give it a rest and maybe give some of these older series a chance. If there is a market for the 96th open world zombie game, then there is a still an audience for ninjas.

And I miss Armored Core too, that series needs another shot.

@Dynamo Frokane I've seen conflicting and mixed opinions. Like some people seem upset that the game didn't take a hard stance and that is somehow worthy of knocking points off. I've read that the part where it's a game is generally enjoyable and fun but because of the whole "We're not really taking a side and the writing is pretty bad" it's lesser because of it.

But I wouldn't exactly expect an Ubisoft game to be the one I'd look to for woke political themes in a video game.

Ive finally started playing Far Cry 5 and the game has PLENTY commentary its just not the kind of commentary people wanted after seeing the boxart.

'Woke' lefties saw a few white dudes sitting around table with a flag and some religious symbolism and started jozzing their pants about how fun it would be to shoot and hunt down 'trump supporters' and then when the game didn't deliver that particular angle, its "The game is cowardly and apolitical playing it safe".

Im just assuming these people were all born in 99 or something, the game has commentary and IS about the right wing, just not about the mouth breathing MAGA crowd that people love to hate. If they knew anything about Ruby Ridge, David Koresh, or right wing anti-government militia groups spurred on by the turner diaries and hyper anarchist ideas. Then they would see they have the commentary they want. But it seems like just because the enemies dont have Ted Cruz voting pins on they cant recognise any statements about the right at all.

The cult also has Scientology and Jonestown shades to it, but I guess Jonestown was in the 70s so its considered irrelevant, and scientology is a meme because Tom Cruise is sooo kray-kray. This is the problem with the 'woke' generation. They have formed their education about the world on trendy articles and dont know shit about the climate they live in beyond the last 5 years.

Underrated: The Whole Jak and Daxter Franchise, especially II and III. Hands down my favorite games of all time.

Underrated: Full Throttle. In fact, the entire 'point-n-click' subgenre has pretty much died and only a few specimens survive to this day. The only kind of 'point-n-click, adventure/walking-simulator' game that I can stand are some Telltale ones and Life is Strange..

What about Syberia?

Ok, the only recent game in that series is Syberia 3 and that....wasn't great, but it wasn't really worse than the first 2. They were just smaller-scale fixed-camera indie titles so the obtuse/easy puzzles with no middleground, and abysmal voice acting that was more forgivable then, than in a crowdfunded multi-platform fully 3D game that looks like Mass Effect Andromeda.

I must agree with you on 'Syberia'. I am not a fan of those games if I must be honest, but your points is valid. Mass Effect on the other hand... ew.

The new God of War doesn't have QTE kills so it's better than the others by default.
