When you find yourself in fantasy quest or some sort of squad. What kind of character type do you find yourself playing?

The Stoic Badass?
Plucky Leader?
Rouge Wild Card?

I'm a GM 90% of the time so I can't really answer this.

I prefer to be the huge, enthusiastic bruiser. You know the one; The guy that screams while he bashes skulls in and rips things apart: And loves every minute of it. Sometimes it's just fun to play a character that's mostly braindead: Friendly enough, a very effective comrade, but their solution to everything is PUNCH.

I do sometimes like to change it up with a more intelligent or streetwise character; Speedy rogue types, more focused on technique and quick thinking instead of brute force. With a supportive charisma that occasionally backfires with horrible or hilarious results.

Though it wasn't asked, I dislike playing mages and other magic-using sorts for the most part. I'm huge on melee combat; I love writing about enemy fodder being brutalized by a huge brute, or outplayed by a street rat. As cool as magic is, people tend to be picky and bitchy about it even in PvE situations, so it's not worth losing the creativity brought on by just being physically capable of a lot of feats.

honestly i usually end up playing whatever the story needs. i do like thief characters. maybe like a healer or support char that has a bunch of tricks or some kind of long range fighter. my chars, despite not being front end fighters, are typically daredevils used to push the plot further along when no other character will anyways.

My characters are usually the healer, but their archetypes tend to vary. I really like to play characters with criminal or somewhat "dark" pasts that are looking for redemption. In the least edgy way possible, that is.

I'm typically drawn to the same characters as Ink said, although I try to keep my palette open. I've played my fair share of holy paladins and meditating druids.

I play all kinds of characters, I guess the type I find myself playing the most recently is the very stern leader character. Like they probably have charisma caped, but it's less that they're physically attractive and that they are just socially dominant individuals. They might come across as an ass hole, but it's just because they take the well being of the party very seriously. This character is typically a mage, be it cleric or wizard. Definitely an older sort of dude. You don't find yourself doing what he says because you like him, but because he seems to know what he's doing. You feel like you could take down a god with him at your side.

Then he turns around and talks about waifus.

I might be a Gm nearly all of the time but that doesn't stop me from playing PC's. (Honestly to me a Gm should get to and not just have to be the Gm. Why I love randmonization, it allows me to Rp as well as Gm without giving me a central roll that I have to play. I get to still kick back and just enjoy how the story unfolds.)

For me, whatever floats my boat at the time. Might be the strong female who keeps things moving, might be the the quiet unassuming guy with a checkered past, tank, healer, bard, comic relief, intellectual, or even the crazed one who makes no sense. Just whatever tickles my fancy. Right now in the various Rps I am in I have everything from a Southern Belle turned hooker who will do anything but prefers farming, former naval officer turned agriculturalist who leads but rarely speaks, Prim and proper Royal turned Circus performer and tiger rider, a long winded flowery and dapper medical man, crazed redneck mommas boy, Severely scarred gypsy bard who hates singing, a slightly insane german man who has no filter and refuses to carry a weapon, and a dice tossing proper lady who never really answers a question directly and enjoys her pipe. (To name a few.) - So yeah, whatever pops into my head.

Amusingly this is the fourth time today I have encountered this question by sheer coincidence. That said I may as well keep with the theme and elaborate on it. Unsurprisingly to many, my usual archetypes revolve around being the "wise old man", at least in the sense my classes are often druids, shamans, or some sort of priest or cleric, something with general combat ability but potent spellcasting and magical prowess. Usually these rely on the powers of nature, most often plant and animal though elemental as well. Where devoted to more combat I edge toward the ranger or huntsman, a master of the wild and animal-friend as well as a figure of many knacks. However, the "green-knight" or champion of nature is perhaps my favorite rare archetype, a mixture of paladin and ranger. Where possible I take on bestial motifs or characters, at the most extreme playing mythic animals or more subdued with people who affiliate with them such as the shaman who takes on various personas of the embodied ideal after consorting with them.

Subsequently, this often ends up being some mixture of the Wise Old Man, the Great Father, the Magician, and the Hero, depending where things fall. If left wholly to my choices? I play out the "Great Beast", the "Feral Druid", the "Savage Priest", or the "Champion of Nature". This oft involves being a bit bloodthirsty in combat, mixing claw and fang, with magical addition. Magic for the sake of magic always feels like excess and almost exclusively have I ever been at odds with the bardic or roguish types alongside the high and mighty wizardly sorts. There is also some underlying tone of the arcane I tend toward being at odds with or knowledge, let alone power, for its own sake; self-powered divine spellcasting, soulcasting. or psionics are much more to taste.

The dashing, yet infuriatingly obnoxious smart-ass. Typical agile, regardless of role. Rogues, Archers, swordsmen, acrobats etc.

Lancer, 3rd class support that somehow has found the time to get involved with everything. Occassionally makes mistakes that somehow moves the plot forwards faster than a success.

Also, puns.

Oh I love these kinds of threads! :D

So, my preferred role would be a tank, essentially for the same reasons @Superboy pointed out, but I can elaborate a bit, lol

I love creating and playing the role of a strong female character (or male, which I've rolled as well). However I don't mean just physically strong, but intelligent, and an iron will to boot! All that without looking like a supermodel in skimpy armor on the battlefield. Generally, I don't like playing weak characters, but those who can fight for what they believe in and carry a large, sharp sword to back it up. Perhaps it was my upbringing, but my parents didn't raise no milk drinker! (Even though I'm short and practically weight nothing...)

I guess I've played the tanky archetypes in most games, starting when I was like 9 and my dad intro'd me to D&D and was all like "Here, you'll love playing a barbarian because no one will want to get in your way!" Well, I was sold from there on :)

Support, usually the debuffer or the buffer. I like teamplay so I like hexing the enemy and buffing my allies. Also, the medic.
