@Inkarnate How does that work?

Eyedropper Tool is a trip. I just look at the hair, eye, or attire of the character and see what works best as their font color.

Am I the only one who actually hates the PS4 Spider-Man costume? I feel like it's got way too much going on at this point.

The main costume's white accents are ugly. But I already know based off of interviews with the developers that there'll be unlockable costumes, including the classic Spidey design and a number of others, so it's not a big deal. As long as I don't have to grind to be able to get a halfway decent look.

I dunno, I’ve gotten used to it. It’s not my favourite, but I don’t hate it either. You can bet that I’ll be playing the hell out of alternate costumes, though.

The black & white costume will probably always be my fave Spidey costume. But, I also like the Ben Reilly/Mayday Parker costume.

While I know which one you probably mean, I'm hoping for Otto's first. That's one of my favorite of Spidey's outfits in recent years.

I'll also fully accept the Raimi suit, since that's my favorite spin on the classic look.

I wanna say Erik Larsen was the first artist to change the blue in the classic Spidey costume to black... or at least made it a darker, near black...

While nothing tops the classic red-and-blue for me, I do have to admit I kinda loved his Future Foundation costume:

I came to realize that the only reason I'm so attached to the blue and red is the fact that I've seen the costume thousands of times. It's fine. It's cool. It's iconic, but I don't feel like it actually represents him particularly well. I know of no red and blue spiders. The webbing is the only detail that feels right. I stick like it, but think it's kinda dumb from a design perspective. I think the symbiote spider-suit is actually the most suitable design.

Admittedly, I've always been somewhat weirded out by the blue as a choice. Spider-Man seems like a character meant for red and black, because the majority of spiders seem to be black, with the red being evocative of black widow spiders.

Then again, it's always been strange that Batman wears a black and gray costume with yellow accents (hell, sometimes ditching the black altogether for blue) when the most common bats are brown.

Whatever. Crazy animal-themed people and their color blindness.

I never really cared about the hero's costume matching whatever animal it's supposed to be-- I mean, if we're going to really get into it, Spidey should have six extra eyes and the web-shooters in his butt, Wolverine and Batman should both be brown, and Black Canary should replace her fishnets with feathers.

Without going into color theory (which I never actually studied), it seems to be that in comics, generally speaking good guys wear primary colors, bad guys wear secondary colors. It's about the closest thing to team uniforms they get, and works really well as visual shorthand, especially in splash pages with tons of characters displayed.

Plus, I mean, people just respond more strongly to them than more natural colors-- there's a reason everything from first-person shooters to national politics divide opposing sides up into Red Team vs. Blue Team. You want something that catches the eye immediately and provokes a response? Primary colors FTW.

I thought it was a similar situation as with Spider-Man 2099 where blue was used as an accent for the black section and people just thought that it was blue, so that stuck with later incarnations.

Kind of like when Neversoft adapted Venom for the PS1 Spidey games.

Well, it's not even color theory so much as economics, as I understand it. In the 60s (and earlier), primary colors were cheaper to print. So you decked your heroes (who would be appearing every issue) in the cheaper primaries and saved the more expensive secondaries for big-time villains (so you didn't have to shell out the big bucks all the time).
