....well, now I have to see this movie. In fact, once I track it down, we're doing a Google Hangout and we're all watching this movie.

Damn kids with their Snap-chats and their Drake music and their Tide pods. Back in my day, your internet access depended entirely on whether or not someone was using the phone, and we liked it that way, dammit!

A friend convinced me to make an account for that two years ago so we could watch some stuff together over a call. I think I used it with them four, maybe five times, in the month that followed. Haven't touched it since.

I still have the "free" AOL discs somewhere. A decent amount of them. And my floppy discs are in the bottom drawer of a cabinet ten feet from me.

You aren't a millennial. Also no. Because you're a teenager.

The line there is so murky.

Well, there's also the issue of time. I've got a full-time job, a circle of friends whom I try to make time for, a side career (well, at this point just a hobby) as a semi-professional actor, and about a dozen other interests and hobbies vying for my attention. If I'm going to start carving chunks of my days out for a dedicated project, it either needs to be something I know will be profitable or enough of a passion-project that I don't care if it bombs. And as much as I love reading comics and writing fanfiction, I really don't have a whole lot of inclination to sink that much time and effort into a medium whose audience has already shriveled to a fraction of what it used to be.

Cool stuff, anyhow. If I weren't tired I'd respond more. Probably will, elsewhen.

<Snipped quote by Nightrunner>

While I understand where you're coming from, you still are dramatically underestimating the expenses required for even amateur webcomics. Ignoring time invested, without artistic talents of his own or someone willing to work for free while still being 100% reliable, Andy would need to hire someone to do the art. Which is a serious investment without a guarantee of return. And that's just the most superficial, basic obstacle. While venturing forward on your own and flipping the bird at conventional, mainstream publishing is all well and good - a path I fully support - it is not even close to being a financially secure decision.

Sure.

Kids these days will never know the struggle. Like having to wait until your pictures came back from Kodak to know if they were any good. Or missing an episode of your favorite show and just having to wait for the next time it airs, and who knows when that would be. Or realizing you've already played all the good games at Blockbuster. Or trying to watch the scrambled pay-per-view channels to see a distorted and fuzzy image of boobs for half a second and having to just make that work.

The line isn't all that murky, really. You were born after the start of the modern internet age (1995). Your entire life has existed in the era of the modern internet. Those who fall into that category have gone their entire lives under the influence of the internet. Thus, they, and you, are generation z.

And thanks for the continued, meaningful conversation with that last response.

In other news, I have a migraine and will be going to bed shortly. Tomorrow you can expect the post to be finished sometime prior to my D&D session.

What a time the 90s was.

Not that it really matters, I guess, but I'm ditching the third-person/first-person switch-up thing that I'd been running with to differentiate between Bruce Wayne and Batman. It was getting a little tiresome, and I prefer to write in Bruce's headspace when given the chance.

I didn't necessarily always have access to the internet though. I didn't personally have any machinery with internet access until I was twelve. I actually spent most of my pre-teenaged years reading books and playing offline games, watching DVDs and going to the library once a month for fun. I mean, sure, I'm slightly younger than most of the cutoff dates, but... eh, that's really all I got. As I see it, I'm kinda like Luke Skywalker: Last of the old/First of the new.

And thanks for the continued, meaningful conversation with that last response.

Did you want me to tell you I thought you were wrong? You had valid points. I obviously thought that these things could be worked around. I imagine he could literally draw stick figures until he acquired the attention of somebody who can draw forealz. Besides, making comics for money is a losing game for the most part. It looks like it would always be a passion project, even if you are "successful" (Kirkman, Vaughan, Lemire, etc.).

Discord > Skype

Once Microsoft bought Skype it got progressively worse and worse. I've tried to get some of my friends to get into Discord but they refuse because they're stubborn bitches.

Yeah that was exactly the turning point for me as well. Once Skype was owned by Microsoft it just became a burden to use. Thankfully my friends introduced me to Discord and I've never looked back.

I stopped using my skype when my account got compromised and I had to do convoluted authenticators to even log in to it. People still contact me on it from time to time when I log in to my e-mail account, though.
