@Superboy

I find it very interesting that you make that argument yet are involved with RPs I run that sort of have the problem of having pauses for 13-18 days, sometimes waiting on an individual player to post.

Pariah, by all conventional standards, should'a died months ago. We more or less dug it's grave up and dragged it's body along for so long that it somehow managed to come back alive again and walk on it's own. Imma say it has a lot to do with the community you've fostered. Toj, Stern, Terg and all of the rest like you so much that they wait out the dry spells longer than a pubbie ever would. It's a great thing, obviously.

But I still think you should post instead of testing your luck. =P

@Inkarnate I've dragged an RP out of a longer silence spell than that. Admittedly the frequents of Advanced section are somewhat more tolerant of that than anyone in Casual (a week of silence in Casual is usually enough to call time of death). It helps though that my playerbase has kept in touch even through those spells so we know who's really still here and who to hound about posts or, if worst comes to worst, I invoke GM powers and brute force things along.

My longest pause in a ongoing [group] RP was probably three months, to be fair. Not that I'm making this a contest but moreover that saying the fortnight pauses in Pariah Online isn't really my longest pauses.

Witchcraft. By all accounts any RP should be dead to rights by that point. But that's moving beyond the purview of this thread ...

Hang on do you even know what I'm referring to? This thread is about opinions on sub forums, in response to the earlier post made I'm saying its very ignorant

yeah a little stupid

straight up discrimination

lmao

it's not your job to police who people can and have to RP with and it's also not really your right to get to RP with whoever you want

i can refuse to roleplay with you because you have a dumb avatar (and this has, literally, happened to me) and all you could say is 'damn that blows, i wanted to rp with you so bad, but i guess i will find someone else' instead of saying 'IGNORANT DISCRIMINATORY RP POLICIES!!!'

if i deny the option of roleplaying with you, or anyone else, for any reason whatsoever, the burden of processing that insane loss of potential is on you and not the person that denied you

or you could just move on and shrug at the occurence. but calling it discriminatory is a bridge or two, maybe three, too far. this a hobby bro, not a job you need or a supermarket that needs to sell you primary goods.

edit: and yes it technically is discrimination but so is refusing to sell items to topless people, but calling it discrimination is little more than using charged words

I considered my thoughts on the matter but they're irrelevant as none of this has any bearing on the thread's topic at hand.

maybe if you posted them we could finally get the thread back on topic

some of dynamos rambling has merit, like the stigma towards the players of sections. share your thoughts on that maybe

One of the biggest RP killers is the mentality of "eh I'll post later".

If you find yourself thinking this, do one of two things:

1. Drop the fuck out

or

2. Post anyways.

This sort have seems to have gotten way off the original topic. But I'll just add some quick two cents. Now this may seem questionable of me, since I've not GM'd here before specifically. But I have elsewhere. So some friendly advice to everyone.

If you're running a campaign, aside from world/lore specific rules, here's essentially the only rules a good GM needs.

1. The GM has the final say.

2. Stay active. If somebody hasn't posted within (insert preferred time here) and haven't explained their reasoning for their absence. The GM will take control of your character, if necessary. (Which can possibly lead to that character's demise.)

And that's it.

Yes, it's a hobby. But it's everyone else's hobby too, so they kind of need active participants. If you take a week of silence and procrastination to post anything, you're acting selfishly. You've got a life? Congratulations, so does everyone else.

I don't recommend rushing posts either, sometimes you feel sick or in a crappy mood. So explain your situation. That's not difficult at all, granted I'm sure a part of that behavior comes from introversion. But literally any signal, is preferable to nothing...

The best way to resolve any problems that may be legitimate, like a member dealing with a sudden death of a family member for an extreme example. You can use temporary character control, either the GM or possibly whomever the absent player permits to take control. (that's often that's something you can set up in the CS, preferably before it happens.) If you suspect somebody has gone inactive and it feels like a ret-con to just let them vanish from the story. Make a scene where they are killed off, or disappear from the story. (If it's not appropriate genre for death.) A GM, has absolutely no reason to let one or two individual slow/dropped without a word members from ruining the campaign at large. There's literally always a way around it.

If you're a GM that encourages people take entire months to post anything or do anything productive, it's also just as easy to include that (or any possible any other concerns) and address them immediately in your OOC.

Yeah lets try not misrepresent my position, I 'm not policing shit. I'm saying RP discrimination based on someone's posting appearing in sub-forums you dont like is stupid not illegal. If you're going to push that free speech, free market libertarian meme shit, then remember that the flipside of that is people having the freedom to call out crap decisions.

In this particular case, the person who said he would never want to RP with an Arena poster actually tried to join an Arena poster's RP twice. Once before he knew, and once after he knew. Which made that whole 'sub-forum disassociation rule' seem kinda laughable.

You have every right not to RP with someone who's avatar you don't like, doesn't make it any less stupid of a reason.

you dragged an entire thread off topic by trying to instigate drama with someone that just reacted to a post, but feel free to gloss over that.

anyway insert actual topical thing here, i would give my thoughts but what i think about the subforums has already been said here by others.

How have we never wrote anything together? xD

Sure. I have an assortment of cakes and pies as well.

1. Probably because I'm a ridiculously shy person about talking to new people hnnnggg. And I also haven't been in a group rp for a loooooongggg time so that might explain it XD

2. Ooohh, yum! *steals a few and hides in the corner to eat them*

Free is mostly for people like me who arent good at writing and dont doe it much. I enjoy it because i have no standards.

Casual i try to be part of but its a bit too complex for me it seems to be the main part.

Advanced i wont even touch its way too high level for me

Arena Eh havent tried much but want to try. But can get toxic.

1X1 Good if you find a good partner

Nation rps are what i started roleplaying with tho on this side theyre way too filled with advanced roleplays and very few casual and like 2 free Which are owned by some guy i have alot of beef with. I wish this section had more free rps.
