Background: Jo's younger years were quite enjoyable as he delighted in the great inheritance that he was born with as he was the only child of a high status family. But as he would grow, he would realize it was just blissful ignorance. He would also feel something was special about himself and his family, not just that they were the only wealthy half orc family, but unlike them, he himself had a tail and horns. These questions and more would be learned after spending most of his years in Emberfrost as he learned about what a might have inherited from his family's legacy.
The city of Emberfrost, a major city that many caravans and trade ships pass through before passing through the difficult cold climate that it borders. Here many companies are built and operate to generate various kinds of businesses to treat and assist those passing through or settling in. In the many decades that it stood, it has seen many companies rise and fall as competing companies try to out best another. His family's company mainly owned by his father Mubar Kalabak, was called the Copyist Compendium, a rather simple business of known for calligraphers, scribes, and scriveners that write and copy various things from simple texts from books to magical scrolls or tomes. It would take many years, but they would be able to monopolize their business throughout Emberfrost as they bought smaller companies and bested rival companies.
Eventually Jomakk Kalabak, would be born during the families peak in wealth. To their surprise, Jomakk was born with a tail and horns. Because of this, his parents would always keep him in their manor and rarely see other people as his parents usually met clients or guests outside than in their large manor. Inside the manor, Jomakk would always find himself to be cold, but his mother would always try to help by buying him clothes to help stay warm. Nonetheless, Jomakk always seem to find himself busy with servants, mainly Nanny Emmi who was quite an old female gnome who cared for him and taught him of many life lessons that would shape his character in the future. Other times, he would learn some lessons from home when tutors came and stayed to teach the young boy of etiquette, writing, music, and other things that a young aristocrat should know. Of the parents, he would usually see his mother, Sumada, who would gift him scarfs and bandannas wear, always telling him of how great he looks with them on and remind him to not forget to hide his tail. Since the family heavily ran the Copyist Compendium, they saw that it would be best to teach Jomakk the skills needed to run the company along with his usual lesson that they believed a boy of a wealthy family should know. Although he most lessons didn't immediately click for Jomakk, he still tried his best as he saw his parents providing him of some recreational fun from novels given for him to read or musical instruments to play with. Of those instruments, his favorite would be the flute the Nanny Emmi gifted to him for his many good behaviors.
It was then on one day that his father brought a human doctor to their manor, unaware of why, he would shortly find himself tied down to a bed and given anesthesia. Although numbed, he still tear as he could feel the sudden spikes of pain as the doctor removed Jomakk's horn and tried to quickly heal the base of his skull. He would spend a few days recovering, but after about a week, signs of new horns regrowing from the same base would appear. Thus, the operation would begin again, then again, and again. Although the Nanny Emmi and the other servants would try to make him feel better, it would be from this trauma that he felt from these operations that would start to make him wonder, why? Ever since the operations and the runes on him, the cold sensation that he felt has tremendously decreased, but still felt it linger. But he would continue asking himself, why does it continue to linger and with no clear answer?
After several attempts, the doctor seemed to be able to stop the growth of Jomakk's left horn while his mother, with a relieved expression, found particular runes that would stunt the growth of the other persist horn would have tried growing again. At this point Jomakk would reach his teenage years and with his bandanna hiding his horn, would begin seeing more parts of Emberfrost than before when he viewed the city from the windows of his manor. He began going to school with others students of wealthy families, but would get the usual strange look from others, but would usually assume that it would be from his unusual appearance. But wanting to make some friends he tried speaking to his fellow peers, those he spoke to over some time, seem to be afraid at first, but given a few days, would become very nice to him as they would play or assist with what ever he needed help with. Unsure if the new friendly attitude was was sincere understanding of him or if they were simply became afraid of his appearance and feared to upset him.
Some days, he would be brought to the Copyist Compendium to see his parents and workers at work as he learned began learning more about the business and expectations, mainly that of his arcane studies. Jomakk would ask why he must be follow in his family business to his father would often be yelled at and repeatedly told that it is what he must do as the inheritor that they could trust the company too. Although not fully accepting the such a weight, he accepted it nonetheless as his father would teach him some of his business skills, but some of it Jomakk found to be harsh and heavy than what he preferred. But again, he tried to accept these ideas as he blevied that he owned his father for his high class life of luxury that most people weren't always able to attain. But Jomakk would still grow curious about that event in his life of the operations with his horns.
During the few days that he found himself free, Jomakk would spend it trying to figure out exactly why he had horns and tail. It would be slow, but eventually through years of investigating, at age 17, he would discover that he was what was called a tiefling, individuals that inherit the bloodline of people who made dark dealings with evil entities. Although he may have the tusks that he inherited from his family, he seemed to inherit other traits from something else. Afraid of what his parents may say, Jomakk would then speak to his servants than his parents. He would demanded to know more from them answers as he felt betrayed as he felt close to his servants as family since they were almost always with him when growing up. It would be Nanny Emmi to mainly inform him that his parents aren't of the morally good of the companies as they would use their magical hidden superior magic prowess to threaten others to work under them, sabotage rival companies, or kill key members of companies with their hired assassins, all in order to gain valuable information or resources and widen magic knowledge and power in the city.
Now aware of of his family deeds, Jomakk would view his growing suspicions as correct, but sadden by the knowledge that almost every happiness of his life came from the ruined lives that his parents brought. Seeing Jomakk in distress, Nanny Emmi would inform him of a way to that may be of some help. She mentions of an arcane book that his parents hid within a vault in their company building. She believe that the book contains an abundant knowledge of runes and spells that his parents gathered together that is dangerous in his the hands of his family, but could still be used for some good if in the right hands. Seeing where this was going, Jomakk and Emmi plotted. They would eventually plan to secretly take some helpful spell scrolls from the company, then with the scrolls, Emmi can break into the vault and take the arcane book as she spoke about how she has some knowledge of spellcasting. Once they have it, Jomakk could leave home with it and find someone who may be worthy of it. Was agreed upon, they would execute the plan when the time was good.
Once the time was right, the two executed their plan to near success, the only problem was that when they found the book, it was heavily sealed within a led container and chained by various arcane locks that could not simply be dispelled by usual means. Emmi told Jomakk to hold on to the book for now as they don't have enough time to solve how to open it before daylight was approaching. On that day Jomakk kept the book with him at all times, afraid of possibly losing it and ruining their plan. Once night came, Jomakk went to sleep, but was quickly woken up by an acute pain where his horn was stunted. He would then hear the sound of battle out in the main hall of the manor for a few seconds until the hall house fell silent. Fearing what may be going on, but hoping everything was okay now it was silent, he slowly stepped out of his room and over the railing that led downstairs and saw his mother on the ground and bleeding out. During this time, the area was still somehow completely silent as he saw his mother and guards trying to fight off, some assassins who were skillfully killing off the less trained guards. Afraid of what might happen to himself, Jomakk went back to his room, took what he thought was necessary, the arcane book in specific and the same flute that Nanni Emmi gave him. Once he packed everything and believed he was ready, he fled his manor. He would continue running until he reached the harbor of the city and looked back and could see in the direction of his house was stacks of black smoke and flames illuminating the night. Thinking that he can't go back now, Jomakk decided to try to sneak on board a ship to wait things out.
Once morning finally arrived, the crew of the ship he sneaked into easily found and labelled Jomakk as a stowaway, during those several days on board, as punishment, he was given various duties that most crew members wouldn't prefer to work. After paying for jumping on board, he was dropped on the nearest dock at that time, Jomakk would begin spend most of his remaining years traveling to numerous towns, playing his flute on busy streets, and finding various odd jobs in hopes pay for a room and food than surviving outside the comfort of a safe enclosed room. As weeks went by, Jomakk noticed his left horn that was once stunted, appear to grow once again and the coldness to his body would return once again too. Not sure how to view himself now that his life has drastically changed, he decided on one thing. If his parents were going let him inherit their dark legacy, he would refuse it as he now hopes to create his own legacy one different from his parents, one that Jo believes he could perform for good. This feeling would weigh on him until he eventually felt an urge one day to focus his cold energy within him and cast a ray of frost to his amazement. Unsure of the things he hold and inherited, he continues to walk forward and hopes to create his own path. As years went by he would hear about the Gaia Frontier and saw it as a place to possibly start fresh. Thus, with his own fate in hand to forge his own legacy, he would eventually arrive and find himself in the Frontier Town.
