Civil War (comics version) is one of the worst stories ever written. The movie version is much better, but I’m not a huge fan of big hero vs hero storylines

I wasn't a huge fan of Civil War, as I feel like even with the different viewpoints of the heroes it got reaaaaal extreme. Especially in the final fight where only Cap eventually went "Wait, what the fuck are we doing?"

Injustice is a different matter entirely.

The movie version is hot garbage. I'm not saying the comics version (especially the sequel) is great comic book literature, but at least it has better moving parts and concepts. But yeah, it becomes a disjointed mess quite quickly. You want to know the best version of Civil War?

Don't @ me.

The movie is great. The comic storyline mischaracterizes literally everyone into terrible ragefueled monsters, but that’s what you get when Mark Millar is involved

Not everyone. I liked a lot of the more interpersonal conflicts (She-Hulk, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, etc.) and some of the more tongue-in-cheek moments. There's a lot of heart and spirit there, but I can't argue that the main "meat" had a lot of the issues that you say with the mischaracterization and whatnot.

The movie is a five-second scuffle that doesn't really understand Civil War beyond a passing reference or two. It was much too soon to do it.

I mean, the movie one is a *different* Civil War. It’s not the same story.

MCU Civil War is a great story, but its connecting narrative thread to the comics is "heroes fight each other," so it's hardly an adaptation. That said, comics Civil War is a bloated, mischaracterized mess, so it's probably for the best the MCU did their own thing. (And they barely have secret identities, anyway, so they lacked the proper -- what's the word? -- framework.)

I just don't like that it uses the name of a comic book event and mischaracterizes it. It's the movie equivalent of clickbait. Plus it made Spider-Man a sidekick.

It is a story that is FAKE AND OVERRATED. Hmph.

That someone else made. It's no coincidence that the best parts of Spider-Man: Homecoming are AFTER he loses the suit.

For real though, after reflecting on our own events what's your favourite crossover event in comics? Or likewise, what's your least favourite?

But anyway, if you're gonna talk about Civil War blowing a reference, can we talk about Zemo?

WAIT! PUT THE PITCHFORK DOWN!

MCU Zemo is a great character. He's exactly what their story needed. I'm not saying Zemo was bad. But, by calling him Zemo, it's likely that we'll never get a proper MCU Baron Zemo. You could've called that character anything -- hell, Flag-Smasher might've made as much if not more sense -- and lost nothing. That, to me, is a bigger tragedy than throwing away a story title.

You wanna talk a great crossover event, one that not only successfully mashed two franchises together, but basically made a franchise of its own that lasted throughout the height of comics' hottest period (and some shitty movies that killed the idea dead)? And also just happened to spawn my favorite video game of all time?

Boom, baby. Fucking boom.

EDIT: Also, a criminally underrated crossover gem from the 90s was Robocop vs Terminator. Frank Miller back when it was still okay to like Frank Miller, art by Walt goddamn Simonson in top form, and a story that is just absolutely fucking bonkers. Go dig that one up some time, it's a hoot.

I think I've mentioned it before, but Archie Meets the Punisher had no right to be as good as it was.
