The Story So Far!
It is the Forty-Second Millennium and the glorious son of the God-Emperor has returned to bring order to a fractured Milky Way - in this time above all others the Astra Militarum (known by many common soldiers as the Imperial Guard) is entirely necessary, recruitment from specialist worlds, such as Mordia, Krieg and Tallarn, only increasing as time goes on and the Emperor's currency is shed in earnest from one side of the galaxy to the other.
In this case it is the world of Vosmarth, a planet of Hive World designation, and inhabited by the descendants of colonists from a thousand worlds – most recently (at least in the last couple of centuries) by refugee Cadians, leading both to a significant population of purple-eyed hivers and a section known as 'Cadia Town' on the lower levels – that has been slapped dead in the middle of the Munitorum's sights for a fresh tithing and a harvest of fleshy tribute.
So it is that the First (1st) Vosmarth Regulars, a double-sized regiment containing those from all walks of life – from the lowliest underhivers to nobles from the upper spires – it driven through the process of forming something like a battle worthy formation; eight months basic training, the issuing of Cadian-pattern arms and armour, the forming of a command structure and the installation of members of the commissariat to keep order and discipline.
Some members of the regiment may well have had experience in the planets PDF, fighting desert-dwelling raiders and bandits, maybe even the odd Ork infestation, but as far as the wider Imperium (and their unmarked regimental banners) are concerned they are as green as any regiment in the Militarum.
Along with several other regiments, under the command of Colonel Photios Mahlah and his officer cadre, the First are a weeks warp-travel away from their first assigned deployment...a week away from what for many of them may well be their last.
Congratulations, you're in the Guard!
The Vosmarth First Regulars to be precise, or to be even more precise the 4th squad of the 3rd platoon of the 2nd company, under the leadership of freshly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Valpuri Tasi – a no nonsense woman that will brook no infractions in her formation.
For eight weeks, after being willingly or not dragged away from your home in Vosmarth Prime Hive, you have survived basic training under the observation of the commissariat and Drill Sergeants. Now, along with those of your 'countrymen' enlisted alongside you, you wait in anticipation to be flung into the meat-grinder of war and blood yourself properly.
Okie dokie, firstly welcome, now I'm going to try and make this as short as I can.
I have no rules (minus the obvious ones commonly used throughout most role-plays) apart from notifying me/a co-GM of either an extended absence or if you intend to leave. This is simply so I can carry on and know who is where and so on and so forth.
Right...
The only other thing is probably initiative, meaning the initiative of players; while not an entirely sandbox experience, I do like players to think for themselves. I shall be guiding things along but 'in the field' so-to-speak I do find it acceptable for players to forge ahead, as long as it doesn't damage the overall plot.
For example, you're in a village and get ambushed – now I'm happy for their to be as many enemies as you wish to kill, for the players to pretty much defeat the enemy as they see fit, and to ultimately carry the day, so long as they don't carry it beyond that.
If in doubt about what you can and can't get away with, just ask me. It makes things much easier.
On the issue of Character Sheets, I don't want any, however what I will ask is for each player to just post up the basics of their character in the following format;
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Former Profession:
Rank:
Specialisation:
That's all.
Almost everyone will also be starting as a simple soldier, though some may have a little more experience than others. The highest rank is likely to be Sergeant, so if you'd like a higher rank (not that it will make much difference IC), please give me a message.
I believe that's it (for now), so if you do have any questions or queries then feel more than free to ask.
