I have no love for Soul Caliber (no hate either, just never played it), but that is a super cool addition. I freakin' love Nier Automata.

If your metric for quality products is 'mind-blowing' it's a wonder you play anything.

This doesn't even make sense as a shitpost.

1. I don't know what voice in your head told you that was my metric because it sure as hell wasn't mine.

2. How would I know it was nothing special if I didn't play it?

Have an espresso and take another whack.

Good thing it wasn't, then. But here, let's break this down, shall we?

1. I don't know what voice in your head told you that was my metric because it sure as hell wasn't mine.

It's not a voice in my head, it's your own voice. I know it's hard to follow posts but the train of conversation went as follows:

-Red Dead 2 is great.
-Great at being nothing mind-blowing yeah.
-If your metric for quality products is 'mind-blowing' it's a wonder you play anything.

I put forth the claim that Red Dead Redemption 2 is both great and, later, a quality product, both of which I believe to be true. Your response to the initial claim of RDR2 being great was derisive in tone and came with the implication that it's 'nothing mind-blowing' which is damning with faint praise at best and outright criticism at worst. You might have a stronger leg here if your initial entry into the topic of RDR2's subjective quality didn't also include the phrase 'nothing mind-blowing'.

You can see how your repeated use of that specific turn as well as your established apathy towards the game and its hype cycle might lead one to the assumption that your metric for quality is 'mind-blowing'.

2. How would I know it was nothing special if I didn't play it?

I didn't imply you didn't play it or even infer you didn't. But if you want me to seriously answer the question then there are a variety of ways, namely watching many of the various streams, reactions, footage, and general tip and hint videos about the game that have been all over the place since Friday.

I honestly think you have played it. I don't know why you would purchase something you were clearly down on or at the very least mildly disinterested but maybe you rented it or whatever, it's your money and time and it's yours to do with as you wish. I fundamentally disagree with you with the game being just 'alright' and I'd be happy to elaborate onto why I think the game is downright fascinating as far as AAA games go.

Have an espresso and take another whack.

I can see how someone who makes assumptions might make an assumption, but that doesnt really tell you anything about what I think, because you didnt ask. You cold read and got it wrong.

My metric for quality products isnt mind blowing. Battlefield 1 is a quality game but it doesnt blow my mind. If you want to know more about what I think, try asking next time.

And saying 'its a wonder you play anything' inplies you are shocked at the idea that I play games that I dont consider quality. But thats only based on the wrong assumption that mindblowing=quality.

Youre bad at sophistry but youre even worst at mind reading.

Maybe decaf is the answer.

We don't ask because your statement is as much an opinion as any other one you have on the subject matter. It tells us exactly what you think. "It's alright, nothing mind-blowing". That's not some kind of vague statement that demands clarification, nor does the double down on it 'not being mind-blowing'. I read what was right in front of me and used that plus historical context to come to the educated assumption that you're not super fond of the game.

Maybe I'll be interested in what you think if you weren't so abrasive about it all the time.

No, it was me making a comment about video games as a whole, dude. Just because we're basically yin and yang doesn't mean every comment in a quote train is specifically about you or I. I don't think video games do much mind blowing things in general. It's weird that 'mind-blowing' is your choice of words for this particular game unless it's a callback to your whole mockery over horse dicks from a couple pages ago in which case well done on the running gag. If you expect any game, RDR2 or otherwise, to be mind-blowing you're going to come away disappointed. That's what I meant with the whole 'it's a wonder you play anything. It wasn't some aggressive takedown or comment on your tastes in video games but on video games and the general familiarity of trend and design that they have. If it came off that way, it wasn't meant as such.

Youre bad at sophistry but youre even worst at mind reading.

Not fond enough to call it mind blowing, but you assumed that meant I didn't think it was a quality product and you were wrong. I don't what to tell you.

Maybe I'll be interested in what you think if you weren't so abrasive about it all the time.

Asking me what I think is just my advice for you to stop interpreting me incorrectly, you can take it or not.

No, it was me making a comment about video games as a whole, dude.

Well when you say 'It's a wonder you play anything' one might think you are talking about them specifically, shocking I know.

I don't think video games do much mind blowing things in general.

Cool, I and some other people do.

It's weird that 'mind-blowing' is your choice of words for this particular game unless it's a callback to your whole mockery over horse dicks from a couple pages ago in which case well done on the running gag.

This is a forum for writers, every now and again you might come across people who use adjectives that are more flamboyant or grandiose than what you use personally. Again this could have been covered if you asked.

And also my commentary on video game reception goes beyond this thread as does yours. I've spoken with and seen people and reviewers on and offline who would use 'mind blowing' or 'breath-taking' to describe a highly anticipated rockstar game. I definitely saw people say that about Breath of the Wild, Persona 5, Witcher 3 etc. I dont think my comment on possible reception of RDR2 was misplaced.

It wasn't some aggressive takedown or comment on your tastes in video games

Only because I had the foresight to not talk about Huniepop.

For the record I do think RDR2 is a quality game with a lot of polish. Just like the first one. But just like the first one, I think that it doesn't deserve the adoration it is getting for being a good 3rd person open world shooter with a fairly compelling story. It's alright but its not mind-blowing.

Wait, wait, wait. Weren't you making a point about Fab making assumptions and THEN make an assumption on who she's talking about?

Also, also, it being a good 3rd person open world shooter with a fairly compelling story sounds pretty damn good in my opinion. A lot better than "just alright". What more do you want from a game, exactly? xD

She literally quoted pinged me saying 'mind blowing' and wrote:

I'm guessing you have a more reasonable idea of who she was really talking about?

Also, also, it being a good 3rd person open world shooter with a fairly compelling story sounds pretty damn good in my opinion.

You have an opinion? That's great.
My opinion is that it's just alright.

@Dynamo FrokaneAll my points were is that if you're gonna call someone out on something, maybe don't do it, cuz that's hypocritical, and my second point is that you describe the game one way but then call it something else. It's just that the tone of language doesn't add up.

We (Pronoun)
used in formal contexts for or by a royal person, or by a writer or editor, to refer to himself or herself.

Not fond enough to call it mind blowing, but you assumed that meant I didn't think it was a quality product and you were wrong. I don't what to tell you.

Yes, because generally quality and enjoyment go hand in hand. Should I have said 'video games'? Probably. I forgot that semantics is the thing in these encounters.

Asking me what I think is just my advice for you to stop interpreting me incorrectly, you can take it or not.

Again, the history of you getting abrasive or coming off that way when things are discussed tends to make people not want to engage with your opinions as anything other than a sideshow. You state an opinion that is just seeped in enough broad-strokes and then act like the fault lies elsewhere when your words get taken at face value. You put forth an opinion. A counter opinion, albeit one that was 80 percent tittering about a simple spelling error, was presented and instead of opening a discussion the same opinion was stated. "I think thing isn't that good" "I disagree" "I think thing isn't that good"

Well when you say 'It's a wonder you play anything' one might think you are talking about them specifically, shocking I know.

I guess it's too much to ask that people look at entire sentences instead of specific phrases. But then this is RPGuild where no one reads anything unless they're tagged.

Cool, I and some other people do.

Oh, cool so it is a metric you use!

This is a forum for writers, every now and again you might come across people who use adjectives that are more flamboyant or grandiose than what you use personally. Again this could have been covered if you asked.

You put forth the claim initially, the burden of proof is on you. Which is of course a way of saying why, when the door was open for you to make your opinions known outside of the broadly specific 'it's alright, not mind-blowing', did you not attempt to elaborate upon your view? It's a forum for writers I would've thought a chance to write would be relished. I could've asked and you could've said something more substantial.

Sure, but you weren't talking specifically about other people and their reception, you were talking about your own. Your use of 'mind-blowing' in this context wasn't some response to views not even expressed in this topic, it comes off as your own thoughts and metrics for what makes a game better than 'alright'. If someone in this thread had said "Red Dead Redemption 2 is mind-blowing!" then yeah, sure, whatever, but you're the only one in this thread to make that assertion.

You see now why someone would reasonably think that 'mind-blowing' is a metric you value in game critique.

Only because I had the foresight to not talk about Huniepop.

Mate, at this point I just mention Huniepop and your love of it for goofs.

For the record I do think RDR2 is a quality game with a lot of polish. Just like the first one. But just like the first one, I think that it doesn't deserve the adoration it is getting for being a good 3rd person open world shooter with a fairly compelling story. It's alright but its not mind-blowing.

And I patently disagree with this statement while not discounting your opinion on the matter. I think this game is in the same vein as Breath of the Wild and The Witcher 3 (my own thoughts on those games aside, I mean in terms of comparison and design decisions) and it's almost amazing that a game with so many baffling and clunky control systems and choices (why isn't there a hotkey to open the map and why is the menuing so counter intuitive, as examples) is still so gripping and fascinating. It's so fundamentally different from the first game in terms of actual systems despite the trappings being familiar on the surface. It's almost laboriously slow with no easily acquired fast travel, the default movement speed is a gentle walk, there is so much animation priority you'd almost think it was a Japanese game, and yet it's an incredibly rewarding and immersive world almost in spite of itself and the more Rockstar-ish tone of its side encounters.

It's a fascinating game.

No, I was speaking for myself. I said that the game wasnt mind blowing but it was alright. I can enjoy an alright game, and I can think an alright game is quality.

I do think some games are mind blowing, I dont think all quality games are mindblowing.

I didnt contradict myself.

You can give me reasons why you came to a wrong conclusion about what I thought about the game, and thats fine. But it was still wrong. The adjectives I used are not the same as yours, as much as you like trying to draw a character assesment from my other posts you are never going to know what I mean unless you ask me. If you dont want to ask me then fine, but you're gonna be wrong.

@Dynamo FrokaneAll my points were is that if you're gonna call someone out on something, maybe don't do it, cuz that's hypocritical

So who was she talking to/about when she pinged me, quoted me and directly said 'you'?

@Dynamo FrokaneWhether she was talking about/to you or not has nothing to do with my point. My point is what you said was hypocritical. Nice strawman though ;)
