Southmere EMS Office
Morning

Today was the day.

Calum Pierrepont, Emi Winterfield, Rosalinda Myles, Rosemarie Neldelstein, and Samarah Deriza were likely all but strangers to each other, yet they each had a similar purpose. For whatever reasons they had, they chose to answer the recruitment call sent out by the Southmere branch of the Erusean Mail Service, otherwise known as the EMS.

However, by all appearances, the Southmere office was in disarray. Unlike the rest of the EMS offices, the Southmere branch was rustic in nature, yet despite the lovely flowers surrounding the building, it struggled to keep appearances up. Ivy had overtaken the building, which led to the paint to flake and chip. Even the very path up to the office was uneven—a clear sign of the office suffering from a severe lack of funding. Nonetheless, for as terrible the Southemere office looked, it still seemed to be bustling as smoke was expelled from the chimney, evident someone was inside.

As the group waited outside the building, chatting with others or keeping to themselves, the front door creaked open, revealing a gaping black hole of darkness inside. Within the darkness, however, stirred a shadow that charged in the direction of the door. As if the shadow sought to ambush the group, the being leapt through the opening, revealing creme-colored fur as the dog raced to frolic within the flowery garden outside the building.

Still, who did the dog belong to? It didn't seem lost, nor was it a stray, evident by the red collar around the dog's neck.

The big day that was gonna change her life had finally arisen. With a backpack and her letter with the info and adress. Emi in her good mood was strolling down the wobbly path as she made her way towards the post office. At first she had thought it would be on quite a remote place but it was not to her surprise. She had to walk the last way just to get to the building and that was a long way already. It had become clear to her that they probably did not need any vast roads to deliver the post. Maybe they did have a big airfield for their bikes. Anyhow she was excited.

The building quickly came into view revealing the old and unkept look of the putside of the building. Emi stopped for a moment and took a quick gulp. It felt kind of scary to get so close to the building. It didn't seem habited at all, was this even the right building?

The path stopped at the front door of the building. Emi shakingly stepped in front of the door and with a trembling hand knocked on the front door. No reaction. Emi waited for somewhat longer and knocked again but was let down with another no reply. Emi did not have the heroic side to look in through the window and decided to simply wait for a while. They might not have opened yet and there did not seem to be any other building nearby.

As time went by other people joined Emi in her waiting game. Apparently they would be applying for the post delivery job as well. Emi introduced herself to everyone and simply chatted for a while as they waited.

Suddenly the front door opened making Emi release a terrified shreek as she was right next to it. She stepped back and eagerly peered into the darkness. There did not appear to be anyone in the building but she was sure she saw something move. Only a second later a creme colored figure dashed out making Emi shreek even more as she moved one of her feet off of the ground in reaction. She spun and fell onto her butt into the flowers at the side of the path. In frustration she swung her arms up amd down for a moment as she visibly pouted.

"I'm so done with today!"

But as soon as Emi spotted the dog running and frolicking around outside in the flowers her entire mood cheered up. In a bliss she motioned towards the dog for a hug as she thought it was super duper cute. Emi stood back up again and ran after the dog in attempt to pet and hug it forever. They would be living happily on the flower fields till the end of time.

"Doggggyyy!"

"The workplace should be right around.. Whoa.."

Calum halted at the sight before him, lowering the missive he was reading. Well-tended flora of varying ilk and vivid colors pervaded the green fields. Atop the inclined path lied a rather crude shack, which appeared to embrace the very nature it stood on. If it wasn't for the smoke emitting from its chimney, it would be easy to assume that it was abandoned. Still, everything about it felt... natural. The morning breeze that he felt brush past his being only complemented the invigorating vibes as he walked up the path towards his destination. It was going to be his very first job; the feeling of uneasiness inching on him like a bug. Nevertheless, it was one that he had decided on.

A chance for fateful encounters. To soar through the skies. To find one's own happiness through witnessing another's smile. A simplistic, yet wholesome dream for some, even if considered childish by others.

Arriving at the end of the walkway, Cal finds a young woman; a damsel possessing ashen hair and looking the same age as him. Their eyes met not too long after, and thus a greeting was inevitable. "Good morning to you, miss! I, uh.. assume you're here for the same reason as I am?" The two made light conversation, before more figures came one after another. And by each one arriving, he couldn't help but feel a slight sense of discomfort. He was honestly expecting a more gender-equal ensemble, and this was quite the surprise.

"Erm.. I suppose introductions are in order, huh? Alright then, I'll start! Name's Calum. Calum Pierrepont. Folks call me 'Cal', so feel free to do so as well. Here's to hoping we all get accepted, yeah?"

The exchange picked up and continued from there, up until a certain point. The slight creaking of the door made the ashen-haired Emi shriek by surprise, and the others in tandem. "Y-you're joking.. right? T-the house can't possibly be haunted.." The sole male uttered with shaky breaths, a tad nervous when Emi slowly peered into the darkness.

And, like a scene from a horror flick, it happened.

"UWAAAH!" A figure bound from the doorway, causing his body to jerk backwards by instinct. His precious brown hat parted from his head and he almost lost his footing, like Emi just did. His wide-eyed gaze was glued to the culprit; a dog. Inconsiderate to the people it had just frightened, the creme-colored furball ran towards the greenery and frolicked about. His heart was beating fast, his right palm planted on his chest and he was struggling to catch his breath.

"Man.. Not.. a big fan of.. jumpscares.. Hah.. Little fella almost gave me a heart attack! Ahaha.. Hahahahaha!" Cal burst out laughing, realizing that he likely screamed the loudest of them all; the man among the women. He bent down to pick up his fallen hat, returning it to where it once was. "Well, that was embarrassing! Let's just move on and forget that ever happened?"

He tried his best to save himself from that embarrassment. He really did.

Southmere EMS Office
Morning

Rosemarie Neldelstein rolled her eyes at how quick the sole male of the group was quick to get spooked by the old post office. There were few things that scared her, but she would never imagine anyone being nervous at the sight of a building that was worn but obviously not condemned.

“Wow. You're so brave. She uttered sarcastically, clearly unimpressed by the boy.

The blonde-haired girl felt her impatience get the better of her as she pushed her fingers against the door, pushing it all the way open as she hoped to see some actual adults at work at the homely-looking post office. The constant chattering of the boy wasn't really much of interest to her, especially now he was trying to earn some brownie points by trying to write off the appearance of the dog as catching him off guard and that everyone should "move on". As far as Marie was concerned she had already moved on because she didn't care in the first place.

“Whatever.” She managed as she walked into the building before calling out to whoever was inside. “I hope I'm not early!”

Southmere EMS Office
Interacting with Cal (@Althiel)

Summer yawned, arms stretching over her head after a long day of work. It was time for her to go home, make some hot chocolate, and snuggle into her bed with her most fluffy blanket. Then the slasher movie marathon would commence!

Getting into her bubble car, she floated away from the lab. She had to go pick up Molly and Wobbles from their pre-school, the best hamster training school in all the land. Unfortunately for her, she hadn’t been paying attention, and her bubble floated right into a pickle! Summer began to fall, the world growing big around her. It was sorta peaceful really, no noise but the horse peckers. Nearing the ground, she looked up at a giant blue gummy worm, with the face of her...grandpa?

Summer’s eyes flew open, the bright sunlight causing her to wince. Pushing off her bed, she noted to not ever drink odd juice from the cabinets again. That dream had been wierd, even for her. She smiled at the note on her nightstand, reminding her that today was finally the day for her adventure to begin again. The Erusian Mail Service! Connecting the island to the rest of the world, one delivery at a time! She couldn’t wait to finally arrive there, and hopefully get accepted.

Luckily for her late late self, she had already picked out an outfit last night, one that reflected her excitement. Brown boots, patterned tights, and a cute cream top. Grabbing a slightly burnt bit if toast, she was all ready to go. Pointing a finger in the air, she marched through the door.

“Onwards!”

The walk to the post office was short and fairly uneventful. Arriving there, she noticed that quite a few others had already arrived. Walking up to the largish group, she introduced herself with a smile.

“Dia duit! My name’s Samarah, though I’d much rather Summer, if you don’t mind. Samarah’s very formal sounding, not much my favorite sound. I guess you’re all applying too? I’m so glad! Though, there’s mostly girls here, no? That’s good too! Yay, I’m so excited!” She continued her chatter with a few of the others, not noticing the open door until she heard Cal’s scream of terror. She whipped around, expecting to find some sort of serial killer dude, or something big, buff, and scary. What she didn’t expect was for a dog to happily run out the doors, running over to the flower field. She let out a sigh, relieved that she would be living for another day.

“Jeez, don’t scream like that, haha...I thought you were getting attacked or something!” She kept a teasing smile on her face, just to make sure he knew she wasn’t trying to make fun of him.

"Goodness..."

The auburn haired young woman had to admit that if anything, the group was colorful enough. She didn't know what to expect at first; the only thing she knew was that she was older than the others that had gathered. A few frowns here and there but everyone seemed polite enough. Rosalinda Myles herself was uncharacteristically quiet for once; aside from a quiet hum, she hadn't spoken to anyone yet. Whether it was nerves or just trying to get a read on the group, she wasn't entirely sure. She wanted to make a good first impression, deciding that since she was clearly the oldest, she needed to be the one with a clear head just in case anyone needed help. It was what her sisters did for her, so it was time to pass on the favor.

Right! Time to guide the little ones on the right path!

Except, one decided to march in, another ran off to chase the dog, and the other girl was laughing at the poor boy who was scared half to death by said dog.

Rosie stood there, dumbfounded by the rather quick turn of events. Her eyes looked from the building to the duo still with her to the quickly disappearing body of the girl that had given the dog chase. Well, she wanted to play the big sister, so she may as well pick one and finally do something. Since one girl had decided to enter and the young man--Cal, right, he did introduce himself to...Summer? Yes, Summer--wasn't harmed, so she prioritized getting the young purple haired girl back on track.

Turning towards the flower field, she tried to remember what her father used to do to get a dog's attention. His collar means someone owned him, so he was likely trained. Taking her index and thumb, she took in a deep breath before using them to let out a rather loud, shrill whistle, hoping to catch the dog's attention and lead the girl back to the building.

"Hot, hot, hot!"

The pink-haired girl, tray in hand, quickly scrambled towards the nearby counter. In order to attract potential employees, Lillian decided that she was going to entice newcomers with her own homemade cookies, but by the time she retrieved the tray from the oven, they were just a little over done. The edge of each individual cookie had been somewhat crispy, but overall they were still rather edible.

"I hope they won't mind," Lillian uttered to herself, laying the oven mitts on the counter as she looked over her final product. She wasn't sure how many people would show up, but Lillian figured that she still had a few minutes to let the cookies cool and arrange them onto a cute, fancy plate. However, whatever Lillian had in mind was quickly interrupted by a sharp whistle outside and someone announcing their presence, their voice echoing inside the rustic building. Glancing towards one of the windows, Lillian was quick to spot a group of individuals that had been playing with her creme-colored pooch—Samson—within the outdoor gardens.

I'm not that great with time, am I? Lillian thought, offering herself an awkward smile. Trying to keep an entire post office afloat by yourself was tiring work, and sometimes Lillian found herself, either unknowingly or knowingly, running behind on schedule.

Walking towards the front door with her apron still on, Lillian came face-to-face with a short girl with a boyish appearance that had already been making her way indoors."A-Ah, forgive me," Lillian spoke to the girl, "You're not early. I'm still trying to get used to running everything by myse—" Pausing momentarily, Lillian shook her head. Depending on how the interviews went, Lillian might have some extra help in regards to keeping everything up and running. "No, that would be wrong to say, now wouldn't it? I don't suppose you're here for the job offer, yes?"

Turning her gaze momentarily from the girl, Lillian called out to Samson, whom had been bothering a burgundy-haired girl that stood off by her own. "Come here, Sammy Boy, you can play with your new friends later. It's time to come back inside."

Emi was firstly met by someone of the opposite gender, she never had been shy to the idea of genders and simply greeted the boy like she would have greeted any other person.

"Tschüss, I'm here for the job interview as well hehe. Oh, you don't have to call me miss either, Emi is fine."

The boy did seem like the formal time and did look quite fancy as well, she expected his personality as it suited his appearance. He went by the name of Cal.

Next a cute bubly girl that went by the name Summer, she did look really cheerfull and hyper about today so Emi could likely get along with her she thought to herself.

Next! A pretty girl named Rosie, she was the tallest of the girls. She must have been the populair kid on school, the classy one. Perhaps the one in the group right now keeping things together. She had not introduced herself yet to the group. The sudden whistle of the girl did catch Emi her attention however. The dog stopped completely in its tracks as it pointed its nose at Rosie. Emi couldn't stop running anymore and was about to hit the dog. Her amazing dodging skills did do the trick however resulting into another falling incident for the braided girl. The dog ran over to Rosie as Emi poked her head up from under the flowers with the top of her head covered in beheaded flowers. She stood up and did the same.

The girl that had not introduced herself yet had pushed open the door venturing inside on her own, her hair was short and blonde. Her childlike posture and short hair did make her look somewhat like a boy, Emi could at least tell she had lady like traits that did make her stand out.

With a red nose from the fall just now Emi introduced herself once more to the rest of the people that had joined after Cal.

"My name's Emi, it's a pleasure to meet y'all"

As last the supposed head of the office came out of the building came out of the building with a plate full of cookies. Emi could tell they were already gonna be friends. The dog was called back as the girl asked the group if they were all here for the job interview. Emi vividly shook her head as drool enveloped from the corner of her mouth. Cookies. She stepped in closer to the girl summer and wrapped her hands around her from the back of the cutey. Somewhat hugging her

"I hope we'll all get along well hehe."

“You run this place by yourself?” Marie uttered, looking around to see if the girl was exaggerating.

It forced a thought come to mind — How was one person and a dog supposed to keep something like the EMS efficent? When they had posted that they were taking applications they weren't kidding that they needed help. Marie didn't want to be the only one “pulling her weight” but at the same time the idea that the spotlight would be on her excited her. In her mind there was no way she was going to be rejected or critically interviewed. Without her or the other applicants the EMS would have nobody. As she mulled over the concept she crossed her arms as she went to answer the postal worker's other question as the other's behind her were too worked up about being friends than excited about doing the job.

“Right. I am here for the job.” She commented as she held out her hand aggressively. “Rosemarie Neldelstein, but you can call me Marie. Nice to meet'cha!”

Summer followed the dog with her eyes, debating whether she should join the girl in running after the dog or not. Her thoughts were interrupted however by a piercing whistle. Looking around for the source, she saw a very pretty lady in high heels whistling for the dog. Said dog ran up to her, causing the other girl to also come back.

The loud girl that had walked into the office was answered by another girl, this one with a plate of cookies. Summer slightly zoned out the majority of her words, her grumbling stomach only focusing on the fact that there was warm, sweet, chewy goodness in that girl’s hands and she wanted a piece. Nodding a bit distractedly at everything around her, she only refocused when someone came and hugged her from behind. Twisting around, she saw the blonde haired dog girl from earlier-Emi, was it?-a couple flowers in her hair. Summer smiled at her comment, eyes lighting up at the prospect of making a new friend.

“I hope so too, a chara!”

Looking back towards the cookie girl, who had yet to introduce herself, Summer gave a little wave.

“I’m here for the interview! Oh, um, are those for us?” she said, pointing gingerly at the cookies. She was very much hoping she wasn’t mistaken on that part. “Also, can we come in to the office? Or is that saved for after the interview?”

Southmere EMS Office
Front Door

Well, at least they're energetic.

As soon as Lillian had met her potential applicants, she had been swarmed by them. Some were enticed by the cookies she held in her hands, while others were more interested in coming inside for the interview. Lillian was happy that such upbeat people had come her way, but she also wondered what they would think—if they were accepted, that is—of the job once they realized how troubled the Southmere branch was. Would they cast her aside and abandon everything before it began? Or, would they stay and help out until the very end, bringing a bright future to the Southmere office?

"Lillian," Lillian replied, offering a smile in Marie's direction. Sitting the plate of cookies down on a nearby table, the postmaster reached forward, shaking the girl's hand. "It's nice to meet you, too." She continued, before another girl had spoken, inquiring about the tray of cookies. "Hm? Oh, yes; the cookies. I already have the juice ready, so if you would all follow me."

Motioning Samson to follow her, Lillian picked up the tray and led the small group down the hallway entrance and into a small waiting area with a few tables and chairs. Unlike the outside, however, it appeared that the interior had been maintained to the best of Lillian's ability, free of dust and cobwebs. Placing the tray of cookies next to the juice pitcher and some cups, Lillian reached behind herself and untied her apron, temporarily hanging it on one of the nearby coat racks for her to put away later.

"So, which of you wants to go first?" Lilian asked, waiting for the brave soul eager to take the first plunge into the world of the EMS.

Summer was approving of their new relationship as well! Yaaaayyy a new friend. Emi happily squeezed the girl into a tight hug as she put her chin onto the girl her head, a big smile was plastered onto her face. She was so cute and warm, this was gonna be her new plushie!

Off course the first thing to be spoken about with the cookie girl was what her name was off course and that they were all here for the job naturally. Emi brightly put her hand up in the air as well exclaiming the same as the two. Next up was the important question. If the cookies were for them. When a clear answer was heard from the girl Emi was sold. She stood right in front of the cookie plate with a tempting expression plastered onto her face. Her future was to eat these cookies, that was clear.

The cookies were shortly taken from her as they were lead inside. They entered a tidy waiting room, it has just been cleaned it appeared and did look rather cozy. Emi was off course already busy with the cookies again. Just like the dog her mouth was wide agape while she was wagging her not existing tail. She patiently waited alongside the saloon table for the plate to be put down and as quick as possible took her first cookie! After the first bite she was already in a bliss angling her face towards the ceiling as she closed her eyes in pleasure of the cookie.

When Lillian mentioned who wanted to be first to be interviewed she immediately poked her hand up into the air while tiptoeing. She was still munching her cookie while she tried to speak to the girl in reply. Off course she had to be first, she was the first to arrive at the building after all.

"Me me me!"
