It's the ability section, we like the overall concept of the character but ability itself is the hold-up. We just don't think it's workable in a public RP due to the need to constantly quantify Joshua's attributes based not only the population within his radius but also who is within that radius due to the way some superhumans interact with his abilities. We had additional issues with his maximum being at 320x as by our math, that'd be 320 times the average human deadlift of 155lbs which over 22 tonnes. That would make Joshua eleven times stronger than our resident 'super strength' user.

The idea of a Hobo Superhuman is really cool and all three of us like it, but we'd like to see the ability be based more on Joshua opposed to external influences if only for the sake of simplicity in the IC.

That makes sense. I wanted a more fun version of super strength/durability, with an interesting weakness. In this case, he'd be weakened by being removed from an urban environment. But I can understand if the ability is too hard to keep track of, or too powerful at maximum strength.

Besides, I liked the idea of an ability intended to 'harvest' humanity being used by a good guy. My original idea was that his power, unbeknownst to him, also drained Mana. So he was a non-magic user with stupendous amounts of mana, constantly charging up a veritably limitless reserve to power a spell he didn't know how to cast.

I think I'll keep the general concept, but just change the power to something else.

Just a couple of questions regarding this new power:

-Where do the Guardians come from?

-Superhuman physical attributes, you mention a toughness comparable to steel and knife-like fingers. What other attributes do the Guardians possess?

-The Guardians have their own intelligence, are they therefore sentient?

-In the abilities, it's mentioned Josh can summon up to twenty-one Guardians but then in limitations you only say ten, is this a case of 'ten at a time and as each one is destroyed he can replace them', meaning he can replace every Guardian at least once over the course of a battle?

-"The Guardians are under Joshua's control, and so long as he's directly controlling them they're fairly incompetent fighters. If he allows them to act on their own they're much more capable, but he's unlikely to do this as it also makes them much more vicious.", I really wouldn't consider this a limitation.

-How specific is the intention to cause physical harm? If someone is mad at Joshua but not actually acting on their feelings despite thinking about hurting him, will the Guardians be summoned? If a woman slaps him across the face, does this trigger the Guardians?

Outside of those question, the durability of steel seems like a bit much when most supers in the RP have been capped at a one-tonne deadlift outside of Natalie who only has superstrength and has been allowed more. Meaning that one of these Guardians on its own is pretty powerful and able to tank most foes on durability alone, let alone in the numbers described. That's not including the other superhuman attributes which have been alluded to.

Didn't realise I left so many things unclear, sorry.

- the Guardians split off from the 'main' guardian.

- They're superhuman, but not very superhuman. And the toughness and knife fingers. That's about it.

- Guardians are semi-sentient. They're capable of basic short-term decision making, but it's fairly animalistic.

- the number inconsistency is me being a moron. It's supposed to be a limit of ten.

- I wrote it under limitations cuz it's a limit. If you don't think it counts, that's fine. I'll write it somewhere else.

- Anyone who is intending to inflict physical harm counts. If you have made the decision, consciously or unconsciously, to inflict harm on Joshua, then you count. Angry person doesn't count. The lady would count the moment she decided to slap him (although Joshua obviously wouldn't have the Guardian attack the lady for this.)

Durability of steel, but a spindly frame. Someone with 1-ton super strength should be able to shatter them fairly easily. If you want I can lower it, though. But I suspect based on your wording that you think this ability is too powerful as is?

Okay so, your answer only half answers Wraith's question. Where does the original come from? Does it come from Joshua? Does it just materialize out of thin air? Does it fatigue Joshua to summon them?

I think durability of that level works a tad differently. Something of that thinness would flex, but would not shatter.

At the end of the day, what we're cross on is that your character, as it stands, has the ability to create ten golems (which is about 2/3 of our entire cast at the moment) with that level of offensive capability and resistance to punishment. We're okay with you having one hard to destroy golem, or several easy to destroy golems (like, say, the durability of glass). Right now, the ability allows you to have the best of both worlds.

EDIT: If Josh lost consciousness, would the guardians still protect him? Or would they continue to materialize?

True, it would probably tear instead of shattering if it had the properties of steel. I should probably have had more details on the exact physical properties of the golems, clarifying things like hardness and flexibility.

Yes, the 10 golems are quire powerful. But to be fair, he only gets to do that when he's fighting at least 10 people. If you're fighting him one on one you only have to deal with a single Guardian, which is powerful but generally weaker in combat than other characters. If you think it's too powerful that's fine. But it's not like 10 golems is his 'standard' combat mode.

If Joshua went unconscious I imagine the Guardians would still materialise, but they'd be stuck performing purely defensive actions. Standing around the unconscious Joshua and intercepting attacks, maybe stabbing anyone who got within arm's reach.

Again, if you think it's too powerful I'll happily nerf it.

Actually if you fight him one on one you fight TWO guardians the way you've said it. He has one he can summon then an extra for each enemy. Just saying.

I think @Junkmail, @Hillan and I are unanimous agreement that we see the ability as too powerful in its current state. From a conceptual standpoint, the three of us preferred Joshua's original ability and really only had an issue with how it worked and the maximum output. This new ability, however, has left us scratching our heads more than not. If you wish to continue tweaking this ability that's fine, but we think it's the weaker concept of the two you have provided thus far.

I really don't have a cap in mind at this point since everything is running smoothly. The setting is large enough to accommodate a good number of players and plots and until it starts to feel crowded, I think I'll keep accepting sheets that Hillan, Junk and I agree on.
