SuperPower Rules And Guidelines


Just as a little guide for anyone who needs it, these are the things to keep in mind when creating a superpower set.

1) These characters are not justice league level. No literal gods, No Teleportation or Time Control, No Magic. Aliens are fine, mutated 'monsters' are okay. When trying to gauge your power level think somewhere around Marvel 'Street Level' heroes and non Omega level X-men.

Also look at the rouges gallery, if you think your character could probably beat them without trying very hard then they are too OP my dude.

2) If you're going to have multiple powers they should compliment each other. Being super strong and super durable makes sense. Being super agile and having super spatial awareness makes sense. Being able to summon comets and also talk to elephants doesn't make sense. And if you are going to insist on a very strong power you will need some VERY significant weaknesses to balance it out, you want to think to yourself 'what's a way that relatively non powerful opponent would have a chance against me?'

3) Think of the character first and the powers afterwards. Your character is person in Maximum city with a life, a job and mostly regular interactions on a daily basis, you are not a super hero 24/7. You are also not a hardened war veteran (unless that is your specific background). You will also have insecurites and mental hangups about what you do. Don't expect to be supernaturally brave in every situation and be able to always think rationally under extreme stress. You are a person underneath the cape.

4) Try and keep powers fairly simple, the need to stand out is understandable but its how you use your powers that makes you interesting. Having something like plant based powers may seem mundane, but maybe if you use them to give yourself a coat of wooden armor and weapons, it suddenly becomes interesting! Don't be using powers that will have you spending more time describing how they work as apposed to what you are trying to achieve.

Welcome to my next super-large project, and 2nd Sandbox RP. Maximum city, home of the meta-humans and all powerful. There will be no linear plot to this RP, it is a living breathing city with its own small problems and big problems which will be added to and grown as the RP goes on. Your character will be a super hero (or super vigilante) and will live a double life with a secret identity. You will also have to hold down a way of receiving income lest you have you turn to crime which would then make you a target of the superheroes!

This is still under construction, let me know your ideas for your characters, but I need to work a few systems in before anyone can be approved.




Update: 0.1 Also everyone, right now I'm working on the rogues gallery, a collection of super villains who are known to the city, and a few human criminal syndicates too

I find she is a little more powerful than she needs to be.

Technological manipulation is an extremely powerful ability allowing the user to basically create whatever they need, I'm almost tempted to set some hard limits for it. This combined with a very strong power like elektrokenisis which some heros only have on their own makes her too strong

Also getting headaches due to stress is a weakness but it doesn't justify the raw power she has. Also is the samus picture a rough outline of what her suit looks like or is it accurate? because I will need moee details on it being a major gadget, along with the cannon etc.

I could remove technology manipulation, as agreed, its a pretty dangerous ability, and pretty powerful. I did try to make the character balanced enough, I could also make the technology manipulation limited to just moving around stuff she's personally made, but not allow her to make stuff on command. Or change to machinery manipulation, since its more specialized, compared to technology manipulation. I tried to keep electrokinesis as low as possible, given some of the antics that could ensue from someone having a more offensive version. Samus picture is a rough outline, though I could change it to an unarmed design that just enhances strength. What kind of more details do you need for the suit and cannon? Push comes to shove, I could borrow from the villain variant of another character I'm doing, and use some of their equipment, as that takes a bit more inspiration from an old villain a friend plays, and who I've fought in the past.

I wasn't sure what would be deemed "too strong," so I went with what I was used to, or worked with in the past. Thanks for the constructive feedback. I could also shift electrokinesis to fire manipulation instead, or wind. Though that's less synergistic than electrokinesis with technology. Any other feedback you feel is needed, or?

Hmm, my character idea was someone who had a technologically advanced, microbial civilization living in him, inhabiting him like a species would inhabit a planet, essentially turning him into a walking, human, star fortress, akin to a power suit, but this might be a bit too redundant with respect to @DocRock's character. I'll try to come up with something else.

I mean, I don't see an issue with us having similar ideas. Besides, yours is different enough to work. But hey, if yours doesn't work out, I've had an idea I'm working on the backburner for the All-Verse project. You could make your OC be from my idea, whenever I finish it. And it gets approved. I'm just happy to be able to interact with new folks and all.

@Duoya This is a cool concept but it needs a few changes.

The main one being 'turning anything he touches into a card' I dont need to tell you how busted that power could be. We should always avoid using the word 'anything' when it comes to super powers.

What does he actually do with these cards? Do they explode when they are thrown like gambit or do the have some other properties? This must be explained in great detail if its his primary ability.

Also what is his super hero name?

Your character has clearly had a lot of effort put in but is way way way way too strong having 5 major element manipulation powers and multiple animal forms, I cant accept this submission.

I think if you tried to power down this character it would change them too much so Id ask for you to simply submit an entirely new one if you still want to take part.

I think when going with a 'power suit' character you want to keep the 'super powers' as linited as possible. For example Iron Man is already one of earths mightiest heroes without any natural superpowers so multiplying his strength giving him the powers of Electro or Pyro would seem somewhat over the top.

Maybe you dont need 'manipulation' at all. It could just be machine mastery or machine genius. And your super power could be something as modest as being a loving battery, being able to pour eletrical power in to machines you are using.

Also we will need an official super-hero name.

I would just note that while a healer character is great, you're not nessecarily going to be part of a team so first aid powers could be fairly limiting when crimefighting solo.

Clayface/Venom powers could absolutely become quite OP so there would have to be hard limits set in to transformation abilites. But looking forward to what you have.

Would solid matter be a better descriptor word? Turning something like fire or just energy into a card does seem a bit broken.

He is able to reverse the effect on the card at any time, allowing him to turn it back into an item. So essentially it gives him a much bigger 'carrying capacity,' and he's really good at moving things.
