Dubstepp gritted his teeth. This round of attacks managed to destroy a substantial amount of health points from his team members. His hand shook slightly, but he began massaging it quickly with his other. The musician needed to work on his nerves. The fact he witnessed the tanks take a lot of damage meant his life was not guaranteed. He took two steps back and reminded himself that he was distant enough to flee if things got too messy.

He looked over his shoulder and back at the battle. Clenching his teeth together, he figured the thoughts of fleeing the battle were messing with his character and determination. Dubstepp was already giving up without even seeing to the end. He blinked a few times; he needed to stop putting time into the dark thoughts of abandoning his comrades behind. Instead, he chose to hum a song.

Dubstepp started to become more relaxed and commanded Totoro to keep spamming his stomp. He chose to heal his monster. The rabbit was essential in helping Tower fighting off the goblin brutes. The musician wanted the enormous bunny to repeatedly stomp the ground in hopes of stalling the goblin as well as any surrounding enemies. The more hits, the better the range.

✧ ZKs66 ✧

7/09/2076

The truth was ZK wasn't doing too much during this fight. He considered himself a scout, a rogue. A skirmisher who shouldn't be involved in such a heavy fight. Perhaps after he obtained his Subclass abilities but for now, he was no more than a deadweight to the team, useful for pathing but not much more.

But spending a couple first weeks of the game while stalking the rest of the gaming group had been surprisingly fruitful. ZK managed to meet to new people, make friends and establish connections that others haven't. ZK knew he wouldn't be helpful with just a couple of throwing knives. And this fight was dragging on for some time, giving time for the Totem to activate and summon more opponents to the field.

So he decided to call in a couple of cavalry.

✧ Kven / Sven✧

7/09/2076

"Excuse me~!" "Excuse me~!"

The pair of near-identical cheery voice interrupted the fight as two additional Lancers popped out from the right side of the battlefield. For all intents and purposes, the two appeared to be identical; same items, same clothes, same Class... same face and height. The indistinguishable pair crashed into the right flank, unleashing several piercing attacks to the Goblin Brute who just crash landed back onto the ground.

"Kven,"
"and Sven."
"At your service~" "At your service~"

The pair made a quick introduction as per etiquette dictated and went back to stabbing the greenskin brutes.

"Hey brother."
"No, I swear if you say anything about that Lancer girl...!"
"Oh, I was going to say that she's cu-"
"Stop talking, more killing!"
"I AM killing!"

✧DAY 26 - Dungeon, "Endless Green"✧

7/09/2076

The Shamans have spoken true.

These adventurers were nothing to fear after all, not when they fought with such terror in their eyes, such fear at the oblivion that awaited. After the opening salvo, the amount of damage those pale-skinned humans dealt was almost negligible in comparison, and the Brutes laughed even as their last Shaman was cleaved apart by Karuu’s great sword. The blood rage was on now, and the line between life and death narrowed with each breath and each wound.

Ecstasy, that’s what it was. To die for a cause. To die with a weapon in hand. To die and become immortalized amongst their warrior ancestors.

So, as those mages in the back wove their pitiful magics to save individuals who weren’t even close to the brink of death, the Brutes advanced further, salivating and roaring into a cacophonous frenzy. Sven and Kven smashed into their flank, but the Goblin Brute that met them only chortled as their spears left shallow marks against the armor and battle-scarred flesh. More fighters to indulge in! More warriors to break!

Bursting through the fiery torment of Prome’s Fire Strikes, the first Brute reached out and drove his fist into Karuu’s unprotected stomach, folding the Marauder over before cracking his club over the child’s head. Wheeling around in the light of Tower’s Mass Aggravate, he drove his club into the Paladin’s unprotected arm. His brethren, beaten and broken but not yet fallen, countered the Lancer girl’s frenzied strikes with one of his own, driving it down onto her shoulder before he was tossed onto the ground once more. The ones beside him joined the party as well, continuing their thoughtless assault upon Tower as they swung furiously, the ground beneath Tower fracturing as the tank’s sword proved insufficient in thwarting off the attack.

Yes, they were outnumbered. Yes, they were outleveled. But that never mattered.

They were bound to their gods by the valor of their deeds and their contempt at the face of death. To waver now would condemn them to something worse than mere oblivion.

And so, driven by the cold voice that whispered in their ears to kill and pillage and deface, the Brutes continued to fight, each swing another nail hammered into their own coffin.

Summary

It wasn’t deep enough.

Blazing past the goblin brutes and sending a cloud of dust upwards as she stopped to re-assess her situation, Cecilia clicked her tongue at her dwindling resources, both for her Mana and her Health. Brute flesh was rather thick for a level 12, and the damage they dealt with their powerful swings was problematic as well. Unlike the wargs, who were largely unarmored, there was definitely a lack of efficiency in her ‘multi-hit’ fighting style. Not enough strength and skill to simply blast through their resilience. Big hitters were going to be River and Karuu then. She’ll turn her focus onto being a distraction for the rest of them.

Cecilia grinned at that, bright and excited. “Cici’s going on CC,” she called out, a golden burst of light assuaging some of her mana concerns as magical tempest built around her legs. “So the rest of you, start stealing them kills!”

A pause. Two lancers came out of nowhere as well, a pair of twins that launched twelve quick blows. “Hey, Zks, that’s a big no-no! Getting new friends to help out still isn’t the same as actually doing anything, you know?”

She stepped off, the world slowing down around her as she passed under the club of the first Brute, the Zenon Spear roaring as it smashed against the monster’s leather armor, ripping into the straps that held the armor together. Before he could respond, the cloaked Lancer’s shield glowed next with the telltale sign of an activated skill, and she charged off like an arrow from a bow, slamming the solar plexus of the next Brute with the edge of the Skirmisher’s Buckler, the blow enough to lift the much smaller creature off his feet as Cecilia performed a half-step reset. She bounced off again, a black comet within the melee that broke in and out, before the next brute in her sight found themselves with the Zenon spear digging deep into their flesh, a piercing strike that pinned them to the ground. For an instant, they were transfixed, and it was in that moment that Cecilia planted her foot against their chest and kicked herself off. Scarlet pixels trailed out of the length of her spear as she somersaulted once, and the spear shot out a third time in midair, hooking under the arm of another brute to flip them upwards.

“Welp, have fun, guys," Cecilia said, with a salute and a starry wink, "This is Cici, signing out~!”

And with that, a powerful backstep shot her out of the fray once more, to observe the chaos she caught from a safe distance.

Prome let out a sigh of relief 'That takes care of the supports. It should be easy to finish off the front line now' He unleashed another stream of fire at the same brute '...but what additional spells do I want to add to my suit? As fun as Ice would be, it might not work well with my Fire magic. Lightning sounds like a safe bet. Actually, could I upgrade my fire Blasters with Wind magic? What would that even do? Ohhhh, I love having ideas!'

“Can’t they just die already.” Willow grumbled. “Dual Cast: Chakra Magic and Greater Chakra Magic.” Willow restored mana in Cecilia and Karuu, making sure they had mana to spare. “Healing Beam.” The dim light shot out at Tower. These brutes made the mage nervous. With the capacity to shred their defenses to bits, the party would be incredibly vulnerable if another wave spawned before they could repair their equipment.

River looked around nervously, he didnt want to expend so much mana this quickly. They needed it for the boss. Suddenly two familiar blues whipped past him and began to barrage the goblins before them. "Kven, Sven, we gotta stop meeting like this." he let out a slight chuckle and then a sigh of relief. Alright, time to try to fry these goblins. "Lightning Bolt!" Rivers wand crackled once more as a bolt of Lightning shot out and struck Goblin Brute 2 right in the chest. A burning hole ripped straight through the abdomen, leaving a tape just before the pixelation took place and the brute disintegrated. Hopefully the rest would fall as easily. Using his enhanced speed, River blasted Brutes 1,3,4,5 with a Plasma burst dealing low amounts of damage and hoping to finish off in a high note. He arc'd his wand once more and used Chain Lightning, dealing double damage to the brutes but still not enough to finish them off.
"This...may be a problem. Ubi, go for brute one! Pepper, Spray them down!"

Luckily Mass Aggravate, like usual, worked flawlessly. It drew nearly all the remaining goblins to strike at him once or twice, eliciting several pained grunts and moans with each successful hit. When they were done beating him into submission, they thankfully focused on Karuu, the other primary tank in the group. As Dennis watched his health bar drop rapidly and the pain in his unguarded arm radiated out, he started wishing that he hadn't lost his shield in the first few minutes of the fight.

But there was no time to dwell on that.

Dennis seemed oblivious to the introduction of two new members to the fight - his attention instead was diverted to the rapid relief spreading through his body as Naomi healed him, his health bar climbing up to a much more respectable level. Dennis immediately recast Mass Aggravate when the cooldown finished and followed up with a standard attack on Brute 4.

He contemplated quickly, but came to the realization that he was taking too long. Dubstepp counted to five in his head and chose to stick with the brute he’s been fighting this entire time.

"Brother, how many of your plans to get the cute girl actually worked?"
"Shut up, I'll stab you."
"Stab the damn Goblin first!"
"I AM stabbing!!!"

Despite the verbal dispute, the twins were working in unison fluidly, like 2 arms belonging to the same person. Synchronized almost impossibly, they unleashed a set of strikes and cuts that destroyed the last Goblin Brute.

"And that's how it's done."
"Hm. Maybe if you had any humility, girls will find you more attractive."
"Hm. Maybe if you weren't so ugly girls might find you attractive. Period."
"... we are literally identical loser."

ZKs' prediction had been correct. The 'Immortal Object' status on the Totem disappeared as the last Goblin fell. Breaking out of his camouflage, ZKs pulled out his weapon and stabbed the stack of stones. There was a good reason why ZKs was hiding at the foot of the Totem without joining the fight. He wanted to get rid of the damn thing before it could spawn more enemies. Despite its rocky exterior it was as durable as wet paper, having only 100HP and virtually no resistances. It fell apart rather spectacularly.

“Uwah, seriously?”

As the fighting died down and the immortal Totem turned out to conveniently lose its immortality only after everything else ended up dead, Cecilia hopped over to the dispersing pixel-corpses of the Goblin, only to stick her tongue out in disgust. No loot at all? Not even any EXP or Renn? Prodding one of the brutes with the butt end of her spear, the Lancer sighed. That leather armor sure looked nice, and Karuu’s definitely gonna need a replacement for his stuff as well.

“Like, gosh, that was way crazier than that warg fight, right? You’d think we’d get something out of it, but no, guess this shitty game’s just gonna be buggy at random intervals.” She continued to rant to no one in particular, satisfied with taking a breather. It wasn’t like any of her non-replaceable resources were taken up, and Cecilia’s first instinct was always to rush onto the next objective…but there wasn’t another objective to pursue. Until the second room of this massive dungeon opened up, they weren’t gonna have anything to do at all.

She was going to have to get some more mana consumption reduction items soon, huh? A flat deduction like Willow’s Staff of Insight would be nice…

“So, Sven, Kven, end up skipping out on your own party? What’s up with that? Too many guys?”

River burst out in laughter as Cecilia asked the twins if they skipped out on their own team. Sure it was a reasonable enough question, but the twins were their own team. Rivers never known them to stick around for too long. Wiping an imaginary tear from his eye River began to approach Ceci "Kven and Sven in a team? I've never known them to do such a thing, well not permanently at least. They tend to be their own team and drift off when it pleases. Unless somethings changed" The last sentance was a bit of a playful jab towards the inseparable duo. River sat on the nearest ruin and let out a sigh as he examined his malabar and the state of the party. "I really wanted to get that writing down on the totem before we destroyed it" he fully reclined onto the ruin now as he glanced over at Willow, "Hey Willow, mind topping me off? We're gonna need all we can give for what's next. And hopefully...we'll find some ingredients or players willing to lend us a sheild and armor for the boss."

River let out a whistle, calling for Pepper and Ubi to him. As she flew over and landed onto his chest, River began to wonder about how they would tackle the boss and just how difficult the fight ahead may be. He sat up and let Pepper fall into his lap as he cradled her, he pulled out his staff again and looked at it for a moment. "I think I've got a decent opener for the boss ahead, hope you all like the surprise."

“Just use this right before we go in. I’ll give you the bonus right before the pull or it’ll wear off.” Willow pulled out her Ancient Mage’s Talisman and tossed it at the mana hungry trainer. “I expect that back and for you to invest in one yourself after all this.”

Willow cast a critical look over the party status window she pulled up. Tower definitely needed some attention in his health and mana. She swapped out her staff for her wand again.

“Healing Beam. Chakra Magic.” She said with a few flicks of her wrist. It would be long going but she’d spend the rest of the walk bolstering the tank’s mana since she let it fall so low in favor of pushing out more damage from River. “Yeah, that was a nasty effect those goblins had. I think Karuu has some back up armor if I remember correctly. We definitely need to do something about a shield though.” Such a brutal fight and no experience or Renn. Willow sighed at the thought but shook her head. No time to lose focus over small things like that. They had a boss fight coming up and she needed to stay focused.

"Well, I think that went well" Prome remarked as looked over his gantlets "hummm...there might be some space right there. I'd have to put together a prototype to be sure. But yes...it looks doable." He then looked up and saw two new faces "Oh! When did you two get here?" He asked 'Drat, what were their names again? Would it be rude to ask? As willow tossed over the talisman, River quickly put the staff away and caught the Ancient Mage's Talisman. His eyes beamed at the item as he pulled up the menu for its description.
Ancient Mage's Taliman: This talisman, when used, restores 100% of your mana and 20% health of your health. Can be used twice a day.

"Oh thanks! I'll have to remember to get one when we reach the next floor...provided I have the Renn. Was really hoping for a Renn or item drop from this mob to help with the destroyed items." River swing his feet off the edge of the ruin, looking around for any more runic markings or signs. "So, this is still a game right? That means the developers may of placed some clues hidden amongst the background. Some ancient language or code to be deciphered that may give us a hint on how to beat this game...or why it even happened to begin with." With a final strong swing of his legs, he hopped off and landed on his feet, Pepper flying up and gently landing on his head. His wand flicked out "Full Restore Monster Mana." A pale blue light began to dominate from Rivers body, coalescing into a brilliant blue orb that flew into Pepper. Her mana was fully restored and she let out a playful chirp. "I'll use this when we reach the boss room, just incase I spend any extra mana between here and there. Speaking of, whatre we thinking in terms of strategy? This isn't a fight we can just rush into." he said as he showed the talisman, placing it into his inventory.

✧ DAY 26 - Dungeon "Endless Green", Dungeon Boss Room ✧

7/09/2076

After the initial campaign to access the caves was finished, all players were called to the entrance. A wall of rock with a few, large access holes were visible, which looked boarded up haphazardly as if it was meant to serve as a gate of sorts. As soon as the command input to access the next part of the dungeon was entered, the gate creaked open. And simultaneously the massive congregation of players were teleported into the middle of an open field.

You look around and realize that you are in the middle of a ring of rocky formations. It felt like large crater of sorts that served as a natural barrier. And infront of you, you see a large... settlement of sorts. There were stone and wooden structures, although the architectural style left much to be wanted. It was rough and rickety, barely held together through a few rusty nails and ropes. Whoever designed and built such a village must not have cared much about safety of its residents. Your chance to observe carefully doesn't last much longer, as you hear a deep, rhythmic thumping in the air, a thick bass sound that resonated even louder in the natural crater you are standing in.

War drums. Their steady beats was only matched by a cackle of noise that could only have been provided by a uncountable number of savages. As you stare down at the Goblin army, a message blinks up in your menu display.

This is it, we've talked about our strategy. In the case the win-condition of this dungeon is not the death of the "Goblin Warchief" or the Kill Team fails, we'll regroup at this spawn spot to retreat together.
Good luck all.

This was a surprise.

Cecilia had seen goblin villages and dens before, but this was a whole other level. A town? A capital? Hastily constructed, for sure, but the sheer size of the place was impressive in its own right. Were they growing wheat? Or was this only a facsimile of human civilization? And those smokestacks in the distance…iron foundries?

A whole town full of goblins who were disciplined, well-armored, and knew, generally, how to construct their own civilization from grounds up, lead by a Goblin Warchief that could theoretically have years of of military experience ‘installed’ within his programming.

Oh, this was going to be fun!

Oh, this was going to be fun.

Oh, this was…

Her chipper attitude melted away. Her bright smile melted away. Her sparkling gaze melted away. It all sheared off like slag against the grindstone, fiery arcs dying bright as she tilted downwards. Ninety degrees…eighty degrees…sixty degrees…thirty degrees...ten degrees, nose inches away from the ground.

“Greater Accelerate.”

A black bolt shot by a bow. A bright point bursting through the skies. A winter storm surging over the land. The world melted around her as Lycanbane dashed through the fields, the roads, the streets, her blood roaring in her veins, her steps drowning out the rudimentary percussions of her foes. At such speed, only arcane bolts and blessed projectiles matched her. And then, in one quick thrust, the wooden shaft of the Zenon Spear flexed an almost impossible amount, before shooting her higher up, amongst the buildings of the town. There were goblins slinging arrows at her, but she was only one adventurer. Her threat was hardly anything for them to notice, not when the horde of adventurers were moments away from crashing into them.

They scattered against ramshackle buildings as Cecilia ran atop of them, her spear flickering out to sever the ropes that held the buildings together, collapsing infrastructure while she sailed overhead. Light steps carried her with grace, monstrous speed turned her into a blur in the eyes of the monsters above, and in her wake, wood and brick came tumbling down.

But they were hardly any concern for Cecilia. No, what she sought was the Warchief of the Horde, her light-enhanced eyes processing the world with three times the clarity of any normal human being.

There was nothing fun about it.

Nothing ironic. Nothing cool. Nothing exciting.

The longer it took, the longer her real life was delayed, the more resources were drained, the more lives were lost, the more that cold, black, flame chewed at her insides, filling her with an all-consuming obsession to end them all.

Her’s was the wildfire, held back by an iron mask.
“WARCHIEF!"

She never forgot. The name of the girl who's adventure ended before it could even begin.

Yo yo, I'm Emi, bleh, I mean, Marcille Moon-shadow. Wanna party up?

Willow

Health: 2700/2700
Mana: 3550/3550(+450)

As the party rejoined the main force, Willow focused on getting Health and Mana back to full for the party. Since she generated a net gain of MP on heals, she cast Healing Beam and Chakra Magic as quickly as they came off cooldown. Willow fretted over Tower’s lack of shield. Karuu kept a backup set of chainmail but Tower lost his access to his shield skill and more than once it had kept him standing in that last skirmish. She would just have to keep an eye on the tank and prioritize his healing. Maybe. Hopefully, everyone else faired better than her poor paladin.

Moments of internal crisis liked to sneak up on the girl unexpectedly and as she looked over the field of players amassed at the gate, one hit her like a truck. How many of these people, trapped like rats, would die today? On a virtual battlefield buried deep within the internet. No family other than what they made, their friends struggling alongside them. How many of them would watch those they cared reduced to shimmering pixels, tear fresh on their faces? How many of them could recover from it? She had flashbacks to the people taking their lives at the beginning of the game. How many would crack under the pressure this time?

Willow felt her chest tighten and her breathing quicken, tears prickling at the corner of her eyes. She took a few moments away from the group to just breath, in through her nose and out through her mouth. She had to focus on the things should could help; her immediate party demanded her attention and that's where she would focus. Otherwise, the work ahead threatened to overwhelm her.

She managed to get a grip on herself for strategy talks, advocating strongly for the party sticking with the main force. Maybe, she would never admit it, she pushed too hard to stay with the main force but Cecilia breaking party only made Willow voice her opinion louder. Staying with the main force would ensure Willow could hide her friends inside the bulk of the army until they recovered. Relief washed over her when they agreed, somewhat easing the knot in her chest that had been forming since the dungeon started.

This is it, we've talked about our strategy. In the case the win-condition of this dungeon is not the death of the "Goblin Warchief" or the Kill Team fails, we'll regroup at this spawn spot to retreat together.
Good luck all.

-Aramo

As soon as the message went out, time seemed to fast forward all at once. The drums were quickly drowned out by the Vanguard's battle cry as they charged and Willow readied her wand. She watched them crash against the goblins, breaking their ranks, and then the main host was off. Fire, Lightning, and Ice filled the sky, roaring from the thousands of wands and staffs before the main host crashed into the swarming horde. The goblins buckle momentarily, long enough for the vanguard to start falling back, before its shamans and brutes surged forward with a beastial vengance. She focused on healing, topping up anyone in range, and moving enemies around to keep them off balance. Shadows obscured their vision, enemies suddenly flew backwards form the fray to bowl over their allies, and light flashed from her as she watched health bars and mana from the party screen.

And as screaming and yelling filled her ears, with arrows and magic thrashing through the air around her, Willow sent a prayer to anyone listening for Cecelia to come back safe.

It was a war!

So many years ago, that cold, mechanical voice told them to prepare for a great war, and now here it was! Years spent in wait, years spent sharpening their blades, years spent raiding and fighting and arguing and preparing! For this moment, where they will be immortalized by the flesh they rent! The drums sang the warsong of their people, emboldening their bodies and their spirits. None of them on the frontline had expected to live to see another day, and they pushed themselves with renewed vigor instead. One Brute tore through the ranks, chaining Hard Punches and Club Swings together with mad abandon until he was burnt out and ripped apart by the cowardly, armored ants. A mere Goblin managed to distinguish himself amongst his peers by driving a knife into the heel of another adventurer, bringing her down onto the ground before ripping off her helm and pulverizing her skull with a stone axe. His fate was to be beheaded by a Reaper moments afterwards. Far in the back, Goblin Archers shot out waves and waves of arrows, providing nothing more than a distraction for the Shamans that did their great and terrible magics.

From the frontlines, their call was glorious, and the disintegrating beam of power that they evoked turned men to ash, cutting a craterous swath through the ranks of adventurers, only for the Shamans to be equally crushed by fireballs falling like meteors. But though the adventurers could all kill three or four goblins by themselves, the goblins replaced themselves at an even greater rate, the war drums becoming a form of communication that allowed massive amounts of units to shift like a sentient flood. For a moment, the adventurers could hold the line, no push even harder.

But in the next, one part of the main force collapsed entirely.

They had been patient, they had waited long, but now, cloaked Goblins atop of Wargs slammed into the shield wall before letting out a grand cry of outrage. <<Brutal Taunt>>, a lesser variation of a Paladin’s Radiant Challenge that only temporarily drew the target’s attention. But rather than engage afterwards, the Warg Riders peeled off instead, pulling the tanks away with them and exposing the DPSes behind the lines. Immediately, monsters flooded in through the gap, Wargs sowing discord and Blood Boiled Brutes knocking them away.

Willow, as it happened, was simply unlucky.

The light that radiated from her body exposed her clearly as a healer, and the Warg Riders charged at her immediately, axes raised to chop her to pieces.

Conflicting emotions began to well up inside of River. On one hand, these creatures have built a home, a society of sorts, much like those of Genesis. Who was to say that they were any less human than those who resided in the town outside this dungeon? On the other hand, these creatures were the only thing standing between every adventurer and their freedom outside of this game. He closed his eyes and steeled himself for the battle about to begin. It wasnt what he had come to expect, he wanted a singular creature that towered above them, making it easy to focus fire or focus heal. But what he got...this was a war.

It was clear that this game was nothing like what hed played before, Rivers eyes opened just in time, Goblin Wargs had pulled the tank lines away and left the DPS line open to attack, Willows healing lights must've attracted a few of the enemies as the began barreling down to her. "Clear the way! Now!" River summoned his staff as he directed Pepper to rush in between Willow and the Wargs. His staff began to glow with a real aura as he twirled it and then slammed the bottom into the ground. Pepper began to go on her haunches as her body began to expand at a rapid rate.

Immediately Pepper grew to the size of a full grown dragon. Expanding across the field, pushing players back and away, and more importantly, creating a wall between the wargs and Willow. Pepper snarled at the wargs who dared charge her and spewed out a fields worth's of poisonous gas. Dark fog began to coat the area, afflicting all the enemies within her breaths reach. She quickly grabbed one of the wargs around her, flew up into the sky, and ripped it in two, letting its locals fall in view of its comrades. "Pepper! Keep an eye out for Ceci and heal as needed! Go ham!" With a massive beat of her wings, wind began to blow atop all as she flee over the battle field, spewing more poison as she went, and taking her claws against any Archers or lone goblins. She circled around the Main force's area and let down a rain of healing onto them as she ket out a massive roar. Rivers staff began to crackle as the Trainer began to barrage enemies with lightning all around, and healing Pepper when needed.

'Well...this is it.' Prome thought 'It feels...a little surreal being here. I'm not sure why though. It's not like this is my first fight after all.' His musings came to an end when he heard a familiar voice cry out;

“WARCHIEF!"

"Cecelia seems quite pumped up." He said to himself as he started unloading Fire Strikes on the monsters ahead. "I just hope she doesn't bite off more then she can chew."
