In my character's condition... I could only do an introspective bit right now. That wouldn't do much beyond bump up the post count and that's not worth it. It feels better for flow and development for the Captain to have a scene with the princess now, followed by or interrupted by the orc emissary. At least... that's what my gut is telling me.

My suggestion is as follows:

The introspective interlude of the injured fisherman should probably happen after the emissary part and immediately before Skurr wakes up, ready to interact with somebody who has either heard about his efforts or observed them directly. Since none of the PCs have taken note, it would be helpful if someone heard about him from an NPC. The most likely witnesses would be some of the wounded civilians in the chapel or perhaps the Captain's subordinates.

This interaction would give a plot link and justification for Skurr to join the Princess's personal forces, though he would be at the lowest rank as a newly recruited non-soldier. Well, that's where I see Skurr's development going right now. Without someplace to go and something to do... his story would lack drive and trail off into oblivion. Still, this isn't up to me. It's up to the "Princess" and the "Captain" to decide.

My suggestion would be that Skurr, after waking up, has a scene with Monika where she asks how the injury occurred.
Maybe from there, we can have someone walk by and overhear and recommend?

@Strange Rodent That sounds good too. It would give a chance for her positive skills to be noticed by someone who wouldn't underestimate their value. I know that both Monica and Dmitri will need places in the structure of things but I don't have a strong gut feeling for where they belong, so I left that up to others without suggesting anything.

Though, I have a strong suspicion that staying in this city would not further the plot unless we want to set up an Alamo situation. So, the Princess will need to have a destination and motive for going there. Though, the Orcs could provide a temporary haven and would have differing information regarding legends and whatnot. Otherwise, I'm at a loss for ideas there as well.

@Zaphander Just a quick mention to remind you this is a low-magic fantasy setting. There might be a few gandalfs around, but mage-knights are a bit too high-fantasy for the setting.

Low Magic it seems. While fantasy races and monsters exist, mages are rare and tend to be super old, and by no means powerful despite the time they put into it. So no guys who can casually throw around firebolts and stuff.

Everyone so far are fairly “normal” people albeit physically capable or have functional knowledge of mundane science like medicine and such.

Knowledge of how to manufacture thermite, black powder or napalm would be far more effective than magical knowledge in this setting. However, the equipment necessary to manufacture some of them would be fragile and difficult to transport.

Sounds pretty vague. If you mean “it’s my real but I won’t tell you how I did it”, probably not. Simple misdirection and sleight f hand tricks is probably okay but if you wanna pull a Wizard of Oz style gambit I dunno if we even have the tech for that.

I was mostly thinking he uses literal smoke and mirrors. Smoke bombs to escape, mirrors to distract and disorient, maybe a weak teleport.

@Haeo just came to me now, perhaps Monika could fit in through Georges. Maren may have known him before he left, and could be able to offer some insight on where he could be now/what is going on.

As a fighter type, Dmitri shouldn't have much problem fitting in on the military side, but as a suggestion, perhaps his arc could be that he doesn't feel like he fits in in this strange land? It'd be a difficult angle to work, for sure, so it's up to YM

Handheld mirrors and smoke grenades seem fine to me, (I did a brief check to make sure the tech for smoke grenades is a least possible in medieval times (it is)) but idk about magic allowing for a "weak teleport." I mean... 1. It seems like it could be a bit too High-Fantasy for this RP, and 2. why would he need a teleportation ability at all if he has the other two means of escape anyway?

I'm not the GM, but at the same time @Polybius hasn't logged in for a bit.

In my experience teleportation has never been something that could even be considered weak, even if it can only move you a few feet away. Mainly because it’s too easy to use as an excuse for being able to dodge all and anything by teleporting at the last second, and getting out of situations where your mobility is usually hampered anyways like being grappled or stuck in muddy terrain.

Literal smoke bombs and reflective stuff should be fine though. With these two things they can be quite deadly, in a knowledge is power sort of way. I think most people don’t quite understand the effectiveness of something as subtle as a flash of light to the eyes or having your vision obscured.
