No longer accepting new players
Summary:
- Semi-realistic low fantasy that takes place in the World of Ice and Fire.
- Characters are adventurers, triators, bastards and more from various walks of life that have recently been forced by current events to join forces.
- Moral ambiguity is to be expected from this group; they are not heroes.
- The timeline is set in the year of Robert Baratheon's entirely natural and no way suspicious death.
- Pretty much any nationality is fine, just remember that this will have consequences on how others view you etc.
- Experienced characters are fine, as are green-as-grass ones, but there are no legendary heroes here and likely no famous names. We begin low, but there is plenty of chance to end high...or dead.
- Character sheets will be accepted based on merit alone, not 'first come first serve'.
- Players will get to collaborate with me on the course of the story. We will start out during a rout in the Disputed Lands and see where it goes from there.
- Luck is finite, you write your character doing too many clearly idiotic things and they're dead.

In Character Info:
The year is two-hundred and ninety-eight after Aegon's Conquest, Robert Baratheon is dead and Eddard Stark - Hand of the King and personal friend of the Usurper - has been imprisoned in King's Landing.
Many within the Seven Kingdoms most assuredly see this as the worst thing to happen since the fall of the House Targaryen - the realm has been thrown into turmoil, battle lines are being drawn, and monarchs and nobles are preparing their levies and war-hosts - but there are also those that see this as a time of opportunity, a time to gain reputation, to show ones valour, but most importantly to amass a fortune in coin.
These are the Sell-swords, outcasts, exiles and masterless men who have not yet sunk to the depths provided by base banditry but will sell their blades to the highest bidder nonetheless; it is also with a small band of these ill-reputed warriors that tale is concerned...
Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea and in among the Disputed Lands, another war is being waged by the three-city rivalry of Lys, Myr and Tyrosh. Once more their coffers were opened, and once more mercenary companies and lordless forces from across Essos have made their way there in search of glory, blood, but most importantly payment in full!
It appears that the Myrish leadership is to blame for starting this most recent 'war' - if it can be called such a thing, the forces arrayed and coin offered making it seem as little more than a border skirmish - choosing to make advances into the Disputed Lands without considering how things may turn out; this may well be why there are no famous or infamous company names included in the battle-lines, no Golden Company or Brave Companions to be found here.
Where then do you come in?
The Meereenese Knots are a relatively recently formed Free Company, primarily formed of Westerosi but with members of all creeds and origins, their leader – who titles himself The Keeper of the Knot – being one Alon Peckledon, an abnormally rich brothel owner from King's Landing who was forced to flee across the Narrow Sea with all his wealth once Petyr Baelish caught wind of a far-too-aggressive takeover attempt.
In spite of surviving numerous attempts on his life, and being a magician with coin, Alon is a useless strategist and never a good judge of other men – men that he hired to form the Knots out of their base instincts for coin alone, and there are plenty of them.
It is most unfortunate for all that Alon and his idiocy appears to have bought them into a contract and a situation from which the Company is most unlikely to be walking away from...at least intact.
Now two armies approach one another over the fertile plains of the southern Disputed Lands, but only one will be walking away.

Out of character info:
So, as you may have guessed, we're going to be mercenaries of one type or another, Sellswords of the Meereenese Knots - independent operators that are just in it for the money; what you may have been before makes little difference at this juncture, although it may well as we progress, soon everyone shall be in the same situation and it is from there that we shall proceed.
At first, we're simply going to form up as a band and see what happens. I have a few ideas for greater, overarching storylines if this roleplay goes anywhere long-term, but those aren't relevant just yet. Focus on having your characters get to know each other, developing respect or rivalries, while fighting side-by-side and back-to-back.
If you find your own knowledge of the A Song of Ice and Fire world falling short, I invite you to use A Wiki of Ice and Fire as a resource. I use it myself, so even if it's wrong, we'll be similarly misinformed.

Rules
- Sort your squabbles out in private. If you persistently disagree with another player or they're grieving you, involve me. If necessary, I will get the moderators involved.
- No godmodding (controlling someone else's character). Obviously.
- Try to post at least once a week. I have seen too many roleplays die because people took their sweet, sweet time. And let me know if you can't post soon!
- One character per player.
- My decisions are final.
- If you've read all these rules and agree to them, include the phrase “careful now” somewhere in your character sheet.

Character Sheet
Please submit your character sheets by WEDSNESDAY, 29TH OF MAY. Post them in a hider in a comment in the OOC tab, NOT the Character tab.
Name: Your character's name. Keep it appropriate to your chosen House/Nation.
Alias and Epithets: If any.
Age: Obvious.
Gender: Obvious.
House: If any.
Appearance: A written description of your character's appearance. No pictures.
Personality: What kind of person is your character and how do they interact with others? Remember, they have already agreed to work with others in a group, so a morose, cynical lone wolf isn't going to work.
History: Describe your character's life. I don't need the exact details of their childhood, or an extensive account of all their previous adventures, but be comprehensive. Give me three solid paragraphs, at least.
Skills: Here you explain to me what your character is good at. I will decide if I think your character's skills and abilities are acceptable. Remember what I said: we are mercenaries, not the King's Guard or paragons of legend.
Equipment: What do they bring with them on an adventure? Remember, err on the side of humility. Our characters aren't necessarily poor, but they aren't rich either – otherwise why would they bother joining a group apparently named after a sex position?
Miscellaneous: Anything you want to mention but haven't been able to cover yet.
