Personality: Melvillie can be described as an overconfident arsehole by others. Being the heir to the Louis bloodline has gone to his head somewhat and has caused his ego to inflate somewhat as a result. Always willing to take charge and lead from the front. If you can get past his ego and inflated self-importance, you can see that Melville is a caring person who only wants to help others, believing fully in everything the Guild stands for.

Behind his ego is actually a young man who seeks validation for his power. There are plenty of times where he has been compared to the heirs of the other great families such as Salem and Aloysius. The comparison has never been in his favour. Given the age difference between himself and the other heirs, this has manifested an inferiority complex where Melville tries his best to prove to others that he is just as important. Add in a dash of family pride and the inferiority complex turns into a superiority complex.

If not being eaten alive by his own insecurities, Meville can be a rather chill person to hang with. around with. He can be energetic and anddairly carefree, preferring to go with the flow than have to micromanage anything. Melville’s lack of impulse control can force him to turn towards bad habits such as excessive drinking and the occasional use of drugs if the opportunity arises.

History/Bio: It was no secret to anyone in the magi world that the Louis bloodline was starting to falter. Centuries of De Silvia and Leighton dominance in the Guild had rendered the Louis family weak, teetering closer and closer to the cliff edge of insignificance. A desperate plan was formed; Find the two strongest mages in the family line and force them to have a child. Inbreeding was still a rather unknown science in the magi world. There had been a few cases where breeding within a family line could bolster the magical power further down the line. But it really was a lottery. If you could get lucky, combine the magical power of the parents and get a daughter out of it, then you were well on the path to success.

Fast forward 9 months later and Melville was born. The plan had failed. While Mervillie had a good portion of his parents' combined power, the fact that he was a male had dampened their chances of creating a perfect weapon to lead the family to glory. Melville had now become a salvage project. The other heirs to the great families were not born yet, so maybe the Guild Leader would have a bad night and everything would balance out.

Since his parents only came together to create a child instead of loving each other there was no need for them to stay together. In fact as soon as his mother had been impregnated, his father simply went back to his normal life. His childhood was nothing special or out of the ordinary. His magical powers wouldn’t manifest until their teens, and it was then he would finally be tested.

As Melville grew older he began to notice the two small dots on his chest begin to transform. Slowly each year their shape was different and expanding. His mother had for the most part avoided explaining the situation to Melville, deciding instead to explain everything when he started displaying his powers. His powers finally manifested just before his 14th birthday when in a fit of rage at losing a game, he made it fly across the room and hit the wall. Now that his power had revealed itself it was time for Melville to go and travel to Guild HQ to receive training. Normally magi in Europe would stay in Europe, but given his status he was required to go out to New York.

His education in magic was routine, just like any other heir really. However trouble started to brew as he discovered the truth behind his creation and what happens to heirs of the families. Born as a desperate attempt to create a weapon, failing, and then being sent to New York to serve the De Silva’s at the Guild to maintain the peace between the families. His past and future had all been planned, well before he had been born. He was the failed project that the family was attempting to salvage.

Rage ensued. A rebellious streak awakened from within Melville as he began to lash out at authority. Punishment after punishment followed, The Guild leader trying to get him to see sense. Nothing seemed to work and Melville became more and more and more out of control. After turning 20 however, Melville had finally made peace with himself and his surroundings. Realising the part he had to play in the protection of the whole world. He might not bring the Louis family to the throne, but he can make sure that their name is full of renown and fame. While he might still harbour some saltiness towards his fate, he is much more composed about it.

Personality:

Faye has a very cheerful and carefree behavior, being considered even somewhat childish. That said, her energetic, curious and rather innocent personality coupled with those aspects and the fact that she is a rather whimsical and unpredictable girl make her a person that you either love or hate. Always on movement and having a problem with both staying quiet and obeying 'orders', she can indeed be quite problematic to deal with. On the other hand though, she can be a very sweet girl, caring about how others feel and even trying to cheer them up if they're feeling down. While Faye has no problems being by herself, she also does like being around people, even being rather talkative due to her curiosity if people give her attention. She is also very easy to approach and befriend. Faye is a very truthful person, often saying what she thinks without lying, which can, sometimes, be a bad thing.

Even though Faye can be a bit of an airhead and easily distracted, she is surprisingly intelligent when the situation asks her to be. Due to her personality (especially with her ability, which she does freely make use of) if someone doesn't keep an eye on her, she can and will wander away to do her own things if they don't manage to keep her attention. Needless to say, despite her strong abilities, she is quite a handful for the guild to take care of, both due to her 'free' nature and her habit to use her ability almost without any self control at all, making use of it almost daily. The fact that she doesn't respond well to people being aggressive or hostile with her is also a bit problematic. It is a known fact that she can be bribed by things she is interested on though.

• Flexibility and Acrobatics: Due to Faye having trained at the gym since she was young, she developed a very flexible body, being able to perform acrobatics without much trouble.
• Dexterity and Agility: Again due to Faye's childhood having being spent mostly running, climbing on trees and on the gym, her body, albeit not suited to hand to hand combat (being rather fragile in that aspect) is fast, agile and dexterous, which is further enhanced by her light and petite body frame.
• Spatial Awareness: Mostly due to her own magical abilities, Faye developed a very keen and sharp sense of spatial awareness and sense of direction. Being able to calculate the speed, direction and altitude both of herself and things she teleport with her blink ability is an absolute necessity. After using it for so long training her magical abilities, it became almost a second nature to her, with her being able to perform these calculations in her head in only a fraction of time. That said, this doesn't help her being less of an airhead or her short attention spam though.

History/Bio:
Faye was born in London, youngest daughter of an old and prestigious family, the Haywards. While it is no secret that the Haywards aren't as wealthy as they used to be, especially compared to the other powerful families in the magi world, they remain relatively wealthy and more importantly, a family with many contacts to rely upon and a strong magi blood running through their veins. Unlike her sister though, Faye was never the favorite daughter. Since she was young, Faye always was the odd one. With an almost limitless creativity, curiosity and equally energetic, she never enjoyed doing the things her parents wanted her to make. Piano classes, studying, etiquette classes, studying and practicing magic in complicated classes... Instead she was the type of girl that liked to run bare foot in the earth, climb trees to get the juiciest fruits, chase butterflies, run and play in the rain, experimenting magic own her own & etc.

Needless to say, her parents ended up giving up in making her wear formal dresses, as they always ended up dirty, with tears and dotted with blood stains from the constant cuts and bruises Faye earned in her small adventures. Initially, her family thought it was only a phase and because of her incredible talent and potential in magic, they simply catered for her needs, putting her into a gym to learn acrobatics when she got interested on it, suggesting her to try and running in the track to spend all her energy, paying for painting and drawing classes in order to give her something to use her creativity... With the passage of time and Faye growing up though, it became clear it wasn't just a phase. As her sister grew up to be a perfect lady, educated, polite, a real socialite, even building her own connections, Faye never bothered with even going in a single ball or high society event. In a old, strict and traditional family, a free spirit like Faye couldn't grow and open her wings. It became clear for her that that just wasn't her place. Due to that, even though Faye could be a very strong mage due to her blood and her birthmark, she soon became the family's black sheep, with them favoring her sister over Faye herself.

Thankfully for Faye, the Hayward wouldn't simply abandon her just because she wasn't fit to be the heiress. When Victoria reached her teens, awakening her magical powers and showing herself to be a strong Cryomage and Faye's magic powers still not having awakened, they sent her to live in another house, a big but old house that was used as the family's summer house in Wales, instead of the main house where the family lived with the excuse that her antics and adventures would distract and hinder her sister, Victoria's studies. With that, the family saw herself free from Faye's antics. When Faye's magic abilities finally awakened though, she turned out to have a rather rare magic type, being able to blink and create portals. With a renewed interest on Faye, the Hayward family tried to contact her in order to make use of her powers. Years of distancing and not contacting Faye did take a toll though. Not wanting anything to do with her family anymore as she felt suffocated living with them, especially now that she finally had her ability, Faye became even harder to contact. After a couple of issues and problems with Faye using her abilities in public, the Guild had to designate someone to keep an eye on her. It was only then that they realized the full extent and potential of Faye's powers. She might be an odd and rather problematic girl to the guild but they figured out that if they played their cards correctly, they could use her... 'excess energy' both magical and physical, to their own advantage. Especially since she had unofficially cut ties with her family, meaning she was a powerful mage that was essentially neutral in the conflict between families.

Personality: Kairo has been raised to be nothing more than a loyal soldier, one that would protect the Louis family and their interests no matter what. However, being around the political scene has meant that his blinding loyalty has been tempered with lessons on politics where he has been able to make his own opinions on things, and more importantly how to hide those inner feelings. He has grown into someone who can adapt his personality based on the current need and can go from a charming court politician to a stone-cold soldier within seconds. Biography: The Ahmedi family has served the Louis Family since they came to power and every generation of Ahmedi's since has had a member inside the Louis' Guard or as leaders of their enforcers. The family headquarters with the Louis family in Europe but has members in all of the Operational Areas to better respond to calls of assistance. All to increase the Louis family's prestige of course. The Ahmedi's are one of the only bloodlines that consistently create Anti-mages on the male side while the Female side tends to produce water or air Mages. Most of the female Ahmedi's are married off to secure alliances and political maneuvers with other magical families, some even within the power base of the other great families. Many have attempted to marry into the family to produce an Anti-mage for themselves and while it's generally successful for a generation or two, the Ahmedi remains the only family to not only consistently produce them for all of history, but to even have a tattoo that signifies them as fully Ahmedi and as such has taken it to a new level. The level of power of non-Ahmedi Anti-Mage's has also been notated.

Some would think that being born into such a family meant that he would have an easy ride, that he would be spoiled and want for nothing. Well, those people would be wrong. Kai was thrown into 'training' the moment he turned four years old. He was sent tutors and specialists whose job it was to turn him into a deadly weapon. He was trained in martial arts, boxing, wrestling, and weapons four days out of seven. Two were spent with school work, and one was spent learning the skills he'd need to be an heir that the family needed.

This routine continued for his entire pre-teen and teenage life, and he became a machine that could not only shoot, and wield martial weapons, but was extremely skilled in various martial arts. Kairo was raised with three words ingrained into him. Loyalty, Duty, and Respect and those three words defined his entire childhood. He spent everyday training, whether it be with swords, guns, the staff, or his hands. He was trained in basic tactics with other children of the Ahmedi family and their retainers and would be pitted up against the other young children. It was a savage training, and no punches were held, no mercy for the weak, and those that could not make it were thrown to the other sections of the family, barely alive. Kairo however thrived in such an environment, showing a particular affinity for the Rapier and Martial Arts. He was what was called 'Ahmedi Chosen' which meant that if powers of Anti-magic were shown then he'd be sent to the Rapid Response Teams and if they weren't he was to be placed as a spy into the non-mage world.

Now at eighteen years old, and having passed 'basic training' as the Ahmedi's call it Kairo did, in fact, show an affinity for Anti-magic, an affinity that rivaled even his own father, and was placed into an RRT (Rapid Response Team) based in Europe. The team's mission was to answer any call in that operational area (Europe) and to deal with threats posed by less than happy Mages potentially exposing the Guild. Kairo, as an anti-mage Kai was able to handle these situations quite well and most of the time could quell the fired up Mages just by appearing and activating his power for a moment. He was used to the glares of Mage's and had heard all the names they called him, including soul-sucker, honor-less cur, traitor, the list goes on. This hands-on learning allowed him to get a good grip on his powers so that now turning 22 he would be ready for his assignment to the Louis family member he would spend the rest of his life defending. A certain Melville Louis.

Dreams and Goals: He wants to become a worthy heir, and a guard that whoever he's assigned to can look back on and call a friend. Hopes to see the world return to a fully peaceful co-existing world.

Some say she took to the snow so well, it became a part of her personality, making her cool under pressure and to the touch. Some say crystals form on her skin when she's in a good mood. Personality: Samira has become the reluctant mom of the Guild. The older members have moved into more sedate, office roles and she's often the oldest one out on missions, shepherding the young trainees and making sure they don't do too much damage to get detected by people they shouldn't be revealing themselves to. For someone who was the baby of her family, it's not a job she has a lot of experience at but she cares enough about her fellow Guildmates to give a concerted effort.

Because of this, her reputation around the Guild has changed a bit to that of a colder, more calm operator. One who is able to remain fluid with a situation but tighten up and make moves when needed. She doesn't flinch under pressure, having seen and heard the stories from her father about the atrocities of the wars. It was her fault her father had to kill that Syrian soldier. Spoiled magical brats whining that they couldn't use their magic outside? It was petulant whining, the kind Samira had no time for on the job.

When not in babysitter mode, Samira can actually be a very playful person. Despite the wars and actions that forced her family to flee her homeland, life in Belleville was good, and life in New York was even better. She knows she's got something special and when out enjoying herself at various music venues and bars around the city, Samira is quite keen to play the mysteriously coy stranger act to get what she wants. Which is usually entertainment of various kinds. She's smart enough to not get too crazy, and charming enough that her ventures end well more often than not.

History / Bio: The Boukhary family was a known Magi group based in the Mediterrean nation of Lebanon. It was rumoured that their bloodlines dated back to the ancient Phoenicians and that their ways with the waters allowed that civilization to expand its network of colonies to the lengths it did. If they did, they managed to keep enough of a low profile to avoid attention from the various forces that conquered the land, surviving empires and sultanates and even France. Even in the Civil War when countrymen turned against one another, the Boukhary family managed to avoid falling into battle. However, when the Syrians occupied the land and a soldier ended up drowning to death on dry land, it was time for Ahmed's branch of the family to disappear from the region. Thus the family of four fled their native land in 1996, settling in the lakeside town of Belleville, Ontario.

Ahmed passed his hydro-manipulating abilities onto his two daughters. However, while Rania grew up in Lebanon long enough to follow her father in the more liquid facets of the art, Samira was only five when she came to Canada. She was still young and impressionable. So when Ahmed decided that Samira was ready to start learning about her birthrights as a Mage, it was the middle of January. Samira had become enamored with the strange cold water that fell from the sky and settled on her nose. It made sense to Ahmed though. Boukhary birthmarks usually invoked the ocean, with waves or swirls. Samira's weird hexagon mark never made sense before the move to Canada, but as the flakes started falling, it was crystal clear that Ahmed's younger daughter was going to follow a different path.

Ahmed was aware that Guild activities were far more organized in North America than they were in the Middle East. Plus, the family had always been allowed to operate on its own terms. However, the office in New York took interest in the relocated Boukhary clan. Rania respectfully refused, choosing to remain with her family in Canada in order to continue building their new life, but Samira was intrigued enough to move to New York City to become immersed in Guild life at the age of 16. She studied and started training while maintaining her cover as a student at Long Island University-Brooklyn. New York took to her well and she willingly kept Brooklyn as her home base as she started doing missions for the Guild that had her travel to various parts of the world under the guise of being a vice president for international business at SunWolf Consulting. The only things she's been consulting on lately though is the growth of some of the younger members of the Guild and how to best deal with the presence of magic and those that want to reveal it to the world.

• Hand-to-Hand Combat: While trained in jiu-jitsu, Samira's strength in close-range battles doesn't lie with her hands. It lies in her being able to conjure icy shards to fight with that give her the edge on her opponents.
• Mental Toughness: Some shit has been seen. Even long before her time at the Guild, Samira has seen and heard things that would make grown adults weep. So she is excellent at maintaining her composure even in the most daunting of situations. Some fool made the mistake of attempting to mug her at gunpoint once. She never got his name, but she didn't have to. Tough to mug someone when the gun freezes up and then they get kicked into oblivion.
• Athletic: Samira played volleyball at LIU, although she regrets that they didn't add ice hockey to their list of scholarship sports until after she graduated. Also that they didn't rename their teams the Sharks until after she graduated. She still keeps in shape with her training and daily jogs through her neighborhood.

• Outdoorsman - Gus could very well survive indefinitely out in the wild; he's an experienced hunter, gatherer, homesteader, and mountaineer.
• Weaponmaster - His magic sort of lends itself to this, so Gus has practiced with all sorts of melee weapons. Anything made out of metal, he can work with. Brass knuckles are just as good as a sword.

Magical Abilities: Metallomancy. While most mages might consider it a mere subset of geomancy, the Mallory family has quietly molded it into a specialization all its own. Gosling has taken it to another level, mixing in combat principles usually employed by warrior mages instead of elementalists, treating his magical creations less like tools and more like an extension of himself. He might not have the talent or raw power of a more prestigious mage, but he's certainly up to the task in a fight.

Personality: Gosling is a bit of an odd duck. When you hear about a loner, a mountain man, an Idahoan, you likely wouldn't imagine the personable, presentable Gus. He claims it's because he cleans up nicely, can't look anything but your best when you're in good company after all. Can't be a bad neighbor either. He's smooth, talkative, and quite clearly the sort of person who would open with pleasantries before a fight. Because it would be rude not to.
When not in a social situation, Gus is a quiet, introspective man, who looks for meaning in the world around him. That's the mountain man when he's up on his mountain after all. He enjoys those quiet moments, when the world seems to have something of its own to say, and he's willing to be the ears that listen.
In one word, he's hospitable.

History/Bio: The Mallory Family, having set up base in Idaho, is one of those mage families that tends to be a few degrees removed from the politics of the Guild, due to both distance from the HQ in New York, and the simple isolation of relatively rural living. As a family they are lacking in prestige or fame, and much like Idaho are the sort of people who might normally be just a footnote in the history books.
Well, who would have been a footnote before Gosling killed the golden goose of obscurity.

Gus grew up in the tiny little town of Magic Resort, Idaho, on the shores of the Magic Reservoir, in the Magic Valley. The region hadn't been called that when the Mallorys had arrived, as that title only came about after the 1910s, but the irony is not lost on anyone from the family. Life was simple and pastoral out there, even after his mother explained the truth of the world to him at the tender age of six. Magic was interesting, sure, but he still had quite a while before he could do anything with it, and he'd been playing wizards and knights with other kids before that anyway.
Well, what few kids there were around. Which wasn't really enough to even fill a classroom.

Living a quiet life fit Gus quite well as a youth, even attaining his magic did little to change that. The thing that he did differently than his forebears, as he grew into that second life, was reach out. He wrote letters, and with the pen he spoke to people, people who were more connected in the Guild. He was quick-witted, and even though not much happened in his little hometown, he certainly had a lot to say to people on the other side of the country.
He made friends.

As a young adult, Gus left Idaho, crossing the nation to see this world he had been born into. It was during these years of traveling that he became an agent of the Guild, having made his way to New York along the way and offered his services as needed.
That offer had taken him some time to consider, but he had seen enough of the world by then to know the Guild had a point; extreme as it might be, the world wasn't ready for magic. The world could barely handle itself without magic.

Having gained the blessing of the Guild, and seen the world and what it might need in it, Gus returned to his home state, though not his hometown, seeking out a place where he might turn his unrefined art into a blade that could keep the world in balance.
He ended up making a homestead to the north of Mackay, in the foothills of the Lost River Range; still reachable, still close to civilization, but remote enough for him to live alone and disappear into the mountains to train his magic.
He might not have the great gift of power of certain people, but he could gain endurance, strength, and skill all his own, to protect a world he'd only seen a fraction of so far.
And he would do it all in the shadow of Borah Peak.
