“What brings you to Starkhaven?” is the first question most hear when they stumble into the strange town off the coast of Maine.
It’s a good question. The only way into the town is by ferry and its population mostly keeps to itself. But for someone down on their luck, Starkhaven often seems too good to be true in the world they find themselves in. For the last one-hundred-and-eighty-two years the historical society, in league with some of the oldest families in Starkhaven, have offered refuge to families nationwide through a raffle. A raffle that when won, families are offered a vacation to the quaint Maine town with their airfare spent-and-paid for. For many, it is a breath of fresh air from their lives.
Two weeks in a cozy little small town where they will be greeted by the Mayor and afforded lodging in a quaint New England Hotel? Why not? Unfortunately, most who get the infamous invite to Starkhaven soon realize that what the town is after isn’t new clientele or residents. It is playing an entirely different game. A most dangerous one. Of those asked to participate in Starkhaven’s most illustrious game and win the greatest prize of all, well, nobody has ever won it. Starkhaven has always won, one way or another.
Could you or someone you know be the first to win it all?
This RP is:
Hunting Grounds is a survival horror RP with some supernatural tones added for flavor. Ultimately, it is a collaborative story influenced by stories of unwitting tales of survival and small town horror-based conventions. Flavors of Alan Wake, The Most Dangerous Game, ‘salem’s Lot, and others can be referenced as the kind of tone I am going for, but not unilaterally.
In this case, characters will not be expert survivors or former Special Forces operatives. Such concepts would not be permitted. I am looking for everyday people who live in the United States, particularly in urban areas with not a lot going for them to where the allure of maybe starting fresh or having the freedom away from their urban sprawls would be the only convincing they need. If a character has so many obligations it is likely they would not take a gift horse in the mouth, they probably would discard the ticket or give it to someone who does. Just keep that kind of thing in mind when looking into character creation. Additionally, as a survival horror RP you will be under attack, hiding, and running eventually so by applying you understand your character may die or be seriously injured through GM events. Beyond that information you are free to apply for the character you want.
I am looking for writing partners in this experiment to have the ability to string together sentences in a descriptive fashion, whether it is in small form or long form. Collaborative posts may be required to string coherent discussions together and I will be hold you to standards people hold to me. Communicate about posting absences/pauses, state your preference in how you’d want your “turn” to be passed over; stuff like that. I’m not a hardline GM when it comes to deadlines, but I will have reminders and do hope to have us to have somewhat of a pace.
With all of that said, defer to me for further questions and fill out this sheet below to show your writing level and commitment to character concept.
Your character sheet should look something like this:
With the sheet application out of the way, I will use the bottom space to add in any additional rules and information blurbs you might need in the future. Still getting back into the swing of RP after a month of fuckall, so take that as you will.

This RP is:
- An open RP for application.
- A group RP that mixes slice-of-life and survival horror beats to create a hopefully entertaining experience.
- A singular, narrative design that starts off with a micro-sandbox until the first day ends and the game begins.
- Of writing expectations; somewhere in the longform, descriptive prose. No one-liners.
- A communally built experience where input is taken in the process for the greater good of the RP.
