@TGM I'm going to drop out as well, unfortunately. I'm not feeling this as I once was.

While he can hold conversations with other people and has enough experience in conversing with others, Howard gets tired of people quickly. As he grew older, he had managed to get through each day with common interactions sprinkled in but there are times where he would just fall silent and feel the burning need to go back to his room. AMBITIOUS There's no doubt that Howard has goals and would do almost anything to attain said goals. This has caused quite a lot of conflict in his past. He would sacrifice his own health for the sake of attaining them. Once he's set his eyes on something, Howard won't stop until he can get it. There are no cutting corners for him, however, and he pushes himself to work harder for it. EFFICIENT Howard is a smart lad, his grades speak for himself, and he usually has plans for most of the things he does. Whether this is because he wants to avoid speaking with people or because he needs it to get a good grade, he often thinks hard about his next move. He's no stranger to spontaneity and he changes his plans accordingly to the wrench that has been thrown into them. He makes the most out of his days and he plans it down to the hour. | Physical Description Often found with an unruly appearance unless he makes an effort, Howard doesn't make much of an effort in his outward appearance if he isn't meeting up with other people. His wardrobe consists of button up shirts or sweaters with jeans to match up with it. He stands at the smaller side with a height of 5'5 and doesn't like calling out attention to it and it's likely one of his bigger insecurities. He doesn't hold himself with any sort of confidence; with a terrible posture in both stsanding and sitting, he's often slouched and seems even smaller than he already is. Despite this, Howard does have a rather fit body - regularly keeping up with his own regiment in the gym. Most of his muscles are in his legs, having been part of the track team for a good part of his school life. Howard has a couple of old scars littering his legs and arms, mostly from falls and tumbles that he had taken during his track years. One noticeable scar, however, is a long gash on his left leg that he had gotten due to a freak accident that robbed him of his chance to see anything more than the local competitions. Character Conceptualization Born a second son and a first generation immigrant, Howard had to learn everything fast alongside with his older brother and younger sister. At a young age, they handled important documents and conversations - translating for their parents and for the other party. Howard had little plans outside of helping around the house to make sure everything was under control. The moment his older brother could work, he became scarce in their house and taking long hours to help support their family. He and his sister worked together to help around the house, though a lot of those expectations fell upon his little sister. This left him with a bit more time than he had expected. Howard had taken great interest in track during middle school and joined the team. His school wasn't anything big or had a particularly good team but Howard found himself enjoying it a lot. For the first time, he had found something he was passionate about. His parents found no need to be worried over it as long as his grades were good. He had made a couple of friends in the team but he didn't have the time to hang out with them enough. He wasn't sure if that was just an excuse or if it was the truth, once he looked back on it. After all, sometimes, his parents were lenient enough to let the siblings go out together - so surely, they could make an exception with at least one hangout. But Howard refrained from doing so, only keeping his interactions with friends at the school or at training. In highschool, he continued track and had even gotten into a couple of competitions. He had won some, lost others. He still has the medals to prove it, though those were overshadowed by his siblings' academic achievements. Nevertheless, Howard knew what he wanted to do - if he managed to garner enough fame, get the highest records, he could eventually get to run at a more national scale. When he wasn't studying or helping in the house, he was running. And finally, Howard got what he wanted. He was going to compete in a national competition for students. Two days before the competition, Howard took a rather hard fall, leaving his leg scarred and broken and him in the hospital. For a few months, Howard couldn't run. His leg was too bothersome and he couldn't even travel too far. He found more time to himself, once again, and he picked up another hobby to busy himself - drawing. He wasn't particularly skilled at it but he put his everything into it. Perhaps it was out of pity or it was because his brother saw budding talent, he had gifted Howard a drawing tablet. He had quickly improved and by the time he could run again, Howard found himself enjoying art a lot more. He didn't come back to the team but took the occasional run as a regular hobby. He began to take commissions and earn money for himself and his family. When he had expressed his plans to take an art course, his parents immediately shot it down. After all, there was no future in it. Howard, however, was adamant to take it and tensions ran high in his own household. Against his parents' wishes, he took the exam in UCLA and managed to get in with a scholarship. Howard took his savings and moved out of his own house and moved to a relatively cheap and shabby apartment, but he didn't mind. He took on commissions as well as a part-time job to help him through his years in school. After graduation, he never got into contact with his family and he continued as a freelance artist as well as a few small-time jobs here and there. Other Information Howard can usually be seen wearing his drawing glove and he typically carries his tablet around no matter where he goes, believing that there's always a chance to gain inspiration no matter the place. While Howard keeps his social circle relatively small, he does have a social media presence in art circles. |

_______________________________________________ B A S I C S Sex / Gender - Female Date of Birth - 08/17/1993 Ethnic Background - Caucasian Residence - Chicago, Illinois Occupation - Tour Guide, Field Museum Education - Anthropology Degree, UIC - P E R S O N A L I T Y Would-be Adventurous Despite not being all that well traveled, Roz has studied about different cultures and, through her work, visits them on a daily basis. In her heart, she's well suited for a life of adventure but in practice the most adventurous thing she does is order exotic food at restaurants - that time she ordered sannakji at a Korean place is still a highlight. In truth, she lives in her own sort of bubble, a safety net that allows her to feel as if she's cultured just because she's studied them. The idea of going to these places one day is enough to satisfy even if she knows it's more of a coping method than realizing her childhood dream was more like the delusions of a little girl with no clue. She's happy to try new things...just that those new things happen to be more culinary related than anything else. Charismatic A benefit in her field, even before Roz spoke to people about bones and cultures on the regular, Roz had a way of controlling a conversation. She's quick with wit but quicker to be enthralling when telling a story. It comes from being a bit of a theater kid in school - or so she says having never actually done any acting of note. A smooth talker, the best asset is that she doesn't speak like a con artist, she may be charismatic but she doesn't blatantly lie. Her stories might be embellished but they're just believable enough, and out of all of her fellow guides, she has the most amount of appreciation letters from field trip groups who assumed because they were going to a museum that it would be boring. Perhaps she missed her calling as a motivational speaker. Trusting, but Spiteful Roz likes to believe that people are, for the most part, good, and to that end she is willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. When someone calls in sick, she trusts that they're sick and not just playing hookey. She's quick to trust and while that might make her a bit on the naive side, she at least has the good sense not to blindly trust people who, for example, try to rope her into timeshares or pyramid schemes or something to that effect. This has bitten her in the ass, though, when she accused a then-girlfriend of suspicious activity and was told nothing was going on. Roz believed her only to come home to find her girlfriend with someone else. Roz has never and likely will never forgiven her; anyone who breaks the trust is persona non grata as far as Roz is concerned. | Physical Description There almost seem to be two sides to Roz based solely on if she's on or off the clock; obviously when she's working she can't parade around looking like she just got done trawling through back alley biker bars which is why she comes off as fairly clean cut despite her off-the-clock hobbies and lifestyle. Working Roz often sports a blazer and a skirt - or sometimes pants - and a smile that blends the line between genuine and manufactured to come off as 'safe'. Her eyes, a muddy brown, seem to brighten and come alive when she's giving tours or, really, whenever she talks about something that really takes her interest. Roz has been told she's tall for a woman, standing at just shy of a flat six foot, but hearing that just makes her shrug and wish she could've cracked that six foot ceiling. She doesn't have any tattoos to speak of but there is a horizontal scar on the top of her right arm that probably needed stitches as it never quite healed fully and there's a slight pinkish discoloration forever on her; fortunately it doesn't hurt both in the physical sense and in selling the whole 'cool girl' vibe that she has off the clock. When she's away from the job, Roz tends to dress a bit like a cliche but it works for her. Leather jacket, denim jeans that may or may not be snugly fitting, hands in pockets, black hair more windswept and uncaring rather than immaculately maintained, and really putting in work to look like someone that walked out of an indie album cover. It's difficult to say which is the real Roz as she feels comfortable in either attire, and perhaps that's the most important part. Character Conceptualization Rosalyn Ballard was fortunate enough to find her first love at a very young age and that, like anyone, was Henry Walton Jones Jr. otherwise known as Indiana Jones. Her father took her to see a screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark when she was ten and that was when she said she wanted to be an archeologist which lasted up until she was told that real archeology didn't typically involve punching Nazis and faces melting. It was disappointing, to be sure, and for a time she thought about getting into acting, but after getting cast in a junior high production of Treasure Island as Billy Bones of all characters and realizing she died ten minutes in, her acting dreams died there. Still, her fascination with Indiana Jones is what led her to anthropology and rather than become a teacher, she opted the tour guide route which is sort of like a teacher except she doesn't have to deal with kids for eight hours a day. Roz has been a midwest kind of girl her entire life, growing up in a boring suburb until the great divorce of her parents when she was thirteen. She went with her dad which involved moving in with her grandmother until her dad got back on his feet. Unfortunately he never did, thanks to being the victim of a DUI accident. What was supposed to be a temporary situation with her grandmother turned into Roz living with her mother in downtown Chicago. Her mother, a banker, tried to be Roz's friend first and foremost and Roz really just thought that was kind of lame; Roz didn't need a friend for a legal guardian. They got along well enough but it was clear that Roz was a bit of a daddy's girl and considering that they bonded over Indiana Jones and Dead Milkmen records, it was hard to blame her. Not a standout student in high school with no real extracurriculars to speak of, she still got into UIC and got her degree in anthropology. She had planned on going on a backpacking trip to celebrate but it wasn't meant to be. The money she had saved up for it since working part time in high school through to college (all from the same place, a local chicken shack that also came with the benefit of her working numerous Tastes of Chicago in her time) was used instead to help support her mother's legal fees after she did a hit and run. Fortunately for Roz, she had enough to put a down payment on an apartment and within the next two weeks not only had she moved out and left her mother to fend for herself, she had found employment at the Field Museum - where she continues to the day. While Roz certainly enjoys her life, the fact that so many of her dreams have been compromised or cancelled is an unfortunate reality and has colored her outlook even if she'll never admit it. Roz doesn't feel the need to aim any higher in terms of career or stability because she believes that if she does that it'll amount to nothing. Sure, she would've liked to be an archeologist but it wasn't like the movies. Sure, maybe she would've liked to be in the movies but if she couldn't land the lead role then what was the point. Yeah, she would've liked to do an anthropology backpack trip but why should she get to get what she wants when her mother needed her help for a little bit. Why bother having long relationships when her first serious girlfriend cheated on her. It's not cynicism, it's bitter realism that nothing she wants really works out so she takes the pleasures in other ways, such as her work and going to punk shows in crappy bars on the weekend. It's not the life she envisioned, but maybe one day she'll treat herself to a vacation. Other Information Roz was a smoker in her college days because she thought it was 'cool' and she has since quit. She thinks people are too harsh on Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. |
