Lilie wasn't really surprised Max declined, but she was surprised Salem did. Aside from Aaron, she thought Salem would be used to going to parties. But if he didn't want to, she wasn't going to push him, and they could hangout anytime anyway. Maybe it was for the better--that way she could spend more time with Aaron. No, that was mean, it wasn't for the better...but she wasn't going to deny it was convenient. But they'd be in a group setting so it didn't matter. Then again, the Revel had been a group setting, too.

Realizing her thoughts were scattered, she hummed to herself as Maddie made her comment, shaking her head lightly. It was wonderful, but she felt like she was getting ahead of herself. However, she frowned a little towards the end, confused. Aaron had mentioned he was busier than usual, but the way Maddie talked about it struck her as weird. How did she know about that? Well no, maybe he mentioned it to her? That wasn't weird, they seemed to get along. Or maybe she just meant being a Sinnenodel mage in general.

Before she could ask, Aaron returned to make an announcement. Her eyes widened at his expression--he looked like he had just been through the ringer! But he was gone for what, ten minutes? What could have happened in that time? Speaking of that, it was also time to go--so there really wasn't going to be any chance to ask what happened since he was in full butler mode again.

But she honestly couldn't stop herself, already standing up. "Are you okay?" She asked him, concerned.

The Sinnenodel couldn't train a dog out of its kennel if the realization only came to him in this moment. Of course Ben would be a fool to take his words literally despite his eyes shifting to the count at his words. He had also overestimated the Astorio; it was clear as the calm surface on a lake that Victor had just as much socialization practice as Countess Marivaldi. The division between the four was horrendous and no doubt Count Sinnenodel was having his fun manipulating them to his leisure. How embarrassing, Ben wondered what Her Highness had in mind to bring these four nobles together. To think his father was convinced the Eves were the laughingstock, he would have keeled over in shock were he witness to tonight.

The conversation had been all over the place yet to the end Aaron had been the one to suffer the brunt of the damage. Why was that? Ben initially thought it was flaunting his mage above the others but his treatment was puzzling. Victor and Count Sinnenodel definitely both thought he had an ego problem, but having met the mage away from the noise, it didn't come off as that way to him. There was something more to this that he was missing but he couldn't think of what. That little look he gave Eris had also caught him by surprise: complimenting Aaron was the wrong thing to do?

Ben was all too glad to leave and he was more than eager to return to his quarters. For one, he needed to have a long talk with his mage about the relationship between herself and the countess. For another, he needed to reconsider his position. If the countess was a lost cause then was allying himself with the Sinnenodel wise? Or was it best to cast aside his father's wishes and act on his own sooner than planned?

The blond vampire waited until the rest had stood before he would. He couldn't believe that he was again agreeing with Count Sinnenodel again; he too hoped their next gathering would go off better than this one. At least Chaend would be a touch more interesting with that in mind. He gave the host a slight bow as was customary and reached into his jacket's pocket before presenting the count with a small envelope. "I thank you for this opportunity and sincerely look forward to the next," Ben said. Who knew how things would change next time. "A token of my appreciation, as you will." Less a token and more a promise fulfilled of course but that wasn't appropriate to mention in public.

Aaron stiffened a little more when Lilie approached him, concern plain on her face. Damn, he was that transparent, was he? That would be one more point in Varis’ upcoming lecture, no doubt, not that he’d be wrong to criticize it. He must have been as white as a sheet, and no one wanted a ghost waiting on a party.

“Of course,” he murmured, trying to comfort Lilie by painting on a thin smile. “Just a long night, that’s all. I’ll take it easy soon, I promise.” He lied through his teeth, but snuck her a wink for good measure, before quirking his chin in the direction of the hallway.

“Now, if you’ll meet me at the door, I’ll fetch your coat for you," he told her at a normal volume, offering a dip of the head and a gesture to the hall. "Have a pleasant evening, Miss Dionne.”

A long night? But he was fine until now! Well, that wasn't entirely true, Aaron was a little different in the kitchen, too. But he was talking to everyone before, and he was maybe nervous, but he wasn't like he was now! A long night, he said, like he didn't already know about this sort of thing! Lilie wasn't completely stupid, Aaron looked like he was going to pass out any second! Even as the thought crossed her mind, though, she knew he wasn't going to say or admit anything to her. Anytime she tried, he usually either changed the subject or insisted he was fine.

Biting down on her lip, she couldn't help but look over at Maddie. She seemed to know him better than she did, and that bothered her more than she wanted to admit. Despite her reluctance to let it go, Lilie felt like she didn't really have much of a choice. Maybe it just wasn't any of her business and she was just letting her feelings get in the way. As she slid her hands into her coat, she couldn't help but look up at him, like she'd get an answer from his face. Her mom always told her that everyone could see what she was thinking on her face, but it always felt like a one way street type of thing. Argh, why couldn't she read people?!

Still, she didn't want to go causing him any trouble. Throwing on a small smile, she gave him a nod in understanding. "Thank you," She huddled her coat to her, at a loss for what to say for a second. "...take care of yourself."

As was par for the course, Max was extremely blunt with his answer. Giving no other reason besides he just truly didn't wish to be there. Salem tried to fight back a small, biting his cheek to keep it from happening as he almost chuckled at how the mage acted. Had he answered first it would no doubt have highlighted Salems answer a bit softer but in either fashion Max was still Max. He thought about inviting Max over for Moons Mirror, but in all honesty there wasn't much of anything for them to do. He didnt seem the type to just sit there and drink tea while enjoying others company, nor did he think he would care to play a game of chess or the like. Salem struggled to think of anything the metal mage would be enticed by besides knowledge and if possible he wished to pick his brain about what it was that was going on between him and Aaron. Or Varis and Eris, it all seemed rather messy yet extremely interesting which meant that Aaron wouldn't dare reveal anything to Salem unless it was a lie.

For a moment Salem wondered if Lilie knew anything about it, but given her reactions during the discussion she was most likely as clueless as he was. Something had happened in the practical that clearly affected everyone in the room, and after The Revel incident Salem truly wondered how in control Ryner was in this school. A small voice in the back of his mind kept yelling at him to stop, not get involved, and to recall the investigation that was created the last time he spoke out with the truth. Granted that voice was immediately silenced as tossed aside. Aaron's announcement had pulled Salem out of his own thoughts and it was then he noticed how weary Aaron looked. Perhaps now that the night was winding down and he was in a room full of acquaintances he was free to drop the act, but even so it didn't seem like him to do so. Salem however wouldn't press on the matter, especially if it meant he could leave. So he got up, allowed Aaron his final task as he awaited his partner to leave, catching Lilie before she left. "Hey mind if we walk back together? I know its not far but I feel like we hardly had the chance to speak back there."

Nerve-wrecking. Landar's ballsack, this girl was trying to test him. A room full of fucking nerds was the last thing that would make Maxwell Alderman nervous. Was that what she thought he was? Some insecure little shithead hiding behind fifteen coping mechanisms of being offputting because strangers are scawwy? Did she know who his vampire was? She was lucky they were getting kicked out, quite frankly, because any further conversation with Madison was bound to end in disaster.

Speaking of disasters, Lilie was back to simping in record time. Yes, the Retriever probably got yelled at and yes, he looked tired. That was par for the course, what the fuck was she so worried for? They'd always been on each other but this was a new level. Or maybe Max just hadn't been paying attention previously. No, this was definitely new. Ugh, they probably had some ugly moonlit makeout session like one of Eris' corny romance films and now they think they're being subtle. Horny fucking animals. Whatever, it'd be good blackmail if Aaron ever got too difficult with him. And surprise, surprise; Salem jumped in for sloppy seconds. These people were getting too predictable, though Salem might've just wanted to talk about... what the hell did Eris say they were up to? Illegal basket weaving or something. As long as that hippie wasn't chasing after him, he didn't really care.

Max stood from his seat and made his way to the exit, if only to stretch his legs while he waited for Eris to finish whatever inane mingling he was wrapping up. As tempting as it was for him to just walk home on his own, Eris talking his ear off on the way home and then getting a bedroom door slammed in his face was far more manageable than Eris throwing open said bedroom door upon his return and leaving Max with no escape. The mage took a haughty pose as he passed Aaron, peering down his nose at the blond in the briefest of acknowledgements, as one would any hired help.

"Mmm... Indubitably... Have a good evening, Mister Starag, hmm, yes," Max tittered with the most obnoxious nouveau riche accent he could manage, "Send my regards to the constabulary and the good senator... mmm, quite." He dropped the voice soon after with a flat glance in Aaron's direction. "Miss Dionne, pfft. You're such a cornball." Was he still a bit mad at Madelton and taking it out on Aaron? Maybe. Did Aaron deserve it? Probably. Max clicked his tongue with a cheeky grin and turned away from Aaron before he took up a spot near the door, casually crossing his arms in anticipation of Eris' exit.

Amaris Marivaldi

Interacting with: Benjamin @Bert Macklin, Eris @Hero, Victor @ReusableSword, and Varis @Achronum

Having found herself swept up in her own moment, Amaris hardly noticed that a fresh glass of blood had been placed before her. She’d been counting them down like minutes to her escape, longing for the opportunity to run back to the safety of her own room. By her count, this glass would belong to Astorio’s ‘troublemaker’, assuming Varis continued his pattern. While she wasn’t sure it would quite be her taste, she would at least try it to be polite. After all, she was relying on Victor to help toughen her up, she couldn’t very well muck that up when they had barely gotten started.

As she gently lifted the drink, a thought occurred to her that Aaron had been present for most, if not all, of her outburst concerning Cassandra. This realization caused her to groan internally, mentally kicking herself for her slip up. Amaris had been trying to keep her interactions with the nobles, and Varis’ plus one, to an absolute minimum while the boy had been present in the hopes that the Sinnenodel would find less opportunity to harm the mage for show. Still, it seemed that she alone was not the excuse he needed for such a vile outcome. Eve had gone for a barely veiled insult which was likely more than enough fuel to the fire, yet she couldn’t be sure Victor’s thoughts on the matter didn’t make it worse. What did catch her by surprise was the look the Count shot Eris, a sentiment extended to the fact the actor had said anything resembling defense of the mage at all. Perhaps the pair were not quite on the same wavelength as she had previously assumed, either that or they were putting on a show.

Of all the opportunities presented, however, it would seem the nail in the mage’s coffin would be some sort of mix up in the blood schedule. One sip from the glass in her hand was enough to verify Victor’s observation. While she might not have been able to predict what the Astorio mage’s blood might have tasted like, there was no denying the quality of what had just been served. The Starags had been raised under the careful hand of the Noila’s for generations, so it was all but a guarantee that Varis’ royal gift would meet such lofty expectations; well, at least in that particular department. Yet, she couldn’t help but wonder how much of the original taste had been muted by Varis inability to properly care for a mage’s mental health.

Thankfully, it wasn’t long before the group was given their cue to leave. The Countess rose along with the rest of the group, leaving an empty glass behind as she waited for her mage to be summoned from their gathering. She would need to have a chat with Maddie concerning the arrangements for extended contact with Aaron, but more than that, she needed someone she didn’t outright distrust to calm her nerves with. It would be an understatement to say she was less than thrilled at the realization that this was going to become a more regular thing but she wasn’t exactly in a position to refuse.

Well, I’m certainly looking forward to the season. Hopefully attendance won’t impede Chaend activities.” There was a part of her that was hoping she might be able to use the holiday to help her in her petition for access to the restricted archives, but that was a thought for another time. For now, she just had to focus on collecting her Maddie and putting as much physical distance as she could manage between her and Varis’ horrid idea of entertainment.

December 7th, 7:25am - The Sinnenodel Dorm

Varis stood after Aaron finished apologizing, smoothing out the wrinkles in his clothes, with a disappointed hum. It was his mistake, he mused. He ought to have the boy grovel next time. That should make the silly mage sympathist cry and everyone else at least uncomfortable. He’d have another chance. All he could do is hope his dramatics painted him in the light he needed. Only time would tell. He gave Ben a dip of his head and took the offered envelope and tucked it away. “You proved yourself a delightful guest, Count Eve. Hopefully we can get together again sooner than Chaend; we’ll have plenty to discuss once your new books arrive. I’m looking forward to your thoughts.” Varis walked the group to the door, where the boy assembled the rest of the mages. It really was a pathetic collection next to the boy but even the white haired pollutant shone in comparison to the Spellman mage. None of them had spoken out against the Queen to her face so he supposed they had a waft of potential.

“You’ve all been delightful company. Take care getting home.” Varis bade each of them farewell. As expected, Eris stayed behind probably to discuss whatever superficial, inane judgement of each of the nobles he’d passed but Varis had other things to deal with at the moment. His attention turned to Aaron and his expression fell flat. “Clean up and then I expect you at my feet in the parlor. You have five minutes.” Varis snapped, returning to his seat in the parlor. He fixed Eris with a steely glare.

“I have been trying for 32 years and you choose this night to finally decide to have some taste.” Varis grumbled, crossing his arms. “And of all the bloods in the world, a Starags. How in my Lady’s name was I supposed to even guess that?! 32 years of work and contemplation, down the drain without a care in the world. I don’t think plant boy can top this.’ Unbelievable!”

Maddie stood at Aaron’s announcement, relieved. It was… nice having the opportunity to hang out with everyone but it was incredibly tense and all she wanted now was to hide in the Marivaldi dorm and take a long, relaxing bath. And she had to admit, she was a little curious how things went with the vampires. She doubted it went well; since they last saw Aaron, he looked like he’d been through the wringer. She offered him a sympathetic smile as she followed him to the door. “You’ve been a gracious host. Thank you for having us.” She told Aaron, her attention immediately going to Amaris. She offered her vampire a genuine smile, small and subdued but happy to see her nonetheless, and fell into step with Amaris as they finally escaped the Sinnenodel household.

December 28th; 1:02am

“We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for an emergency broadcast. Authorities discovered Count Varis Sinnenodel’s personal vehicle smoking on the edge of Astorio territory. Authorities believe the Count was on his way to discuss business for the green energy company Green Vision Inc., whose subsidiaries include Emerald Sun and Seafoam Turbines, when he was suddenly caught in a blitz attack from the recently growing Red Hand terrorist group. If authorities determine this to be true, this will be the terrorists’ first attack against a high ranking noble.

The Council dispatched Princess Nox Noila to handle the investigation. Her team has yet to make an official statement but a source close to the investigation has leaked that they have found the remains of a vampire little more than a quarter of a mile away. The area was scorched and burned around the remains, making the investigation believe Count Sinnenodel managed to survive the initial attack but was unable to escape his pursuers.

Lady Sybil Sinnenodel released a statement shortly after the discovery of the vehicle.

“I have no doubt that treachery was involved in this attack but it is too early to determine the fate of those involved. If it is indeed my heir, the Red Hand will reckon with the consequences of my attention. This slight will not go unpunished.”

Date: December 31st; 12:07am

“Our next story involves the recent attack on Count Varis Sinnenodel, heir to the Sinnenodel household and Chairman of the Board of Green Vision Inc, one of the largest clean energy companies in the recent decades. Earlier tonight, Lord Salazar Marivadli approved a seven year lease of all power facilities in Marivaldi territory to the energy giant. Lord Marivaldi said that while he is optimistic about the two houses working together, this is still only a trial run.”

A video of Lord Salazar Marivaldi, outside the Marivaldi estate dressed in his Council robes, plays in the top left corner.

“Tonight, we’ve laid the groundwork to explore a developing relationship between the Marivaldi and Sinnenodel families and illuminate a future when the divide between our philosophies closes even more. While Green Vision Inc still has to prove itself capable of fulfilling the promises it’s made tonight, I have no doubt they will succeed as they have done so since their inception.”

The camera returns to the vampire broadcaster.

“Since taking the position of Chairman of the Board just under a decade after the official announcement of his position at Lady Sybil Sinnenodel’s side, Count Varis Sinnenodel has rapidly and aggressively expanded the reach of Green Vision Inc, bringing the once Astorio held Emerald Sun and the independent Seafoam Turbines under their umbrella, and consolidated all other Traditionalist held energy plants into a single renewable energy giant.

His aggressive business policies have often rankled even those who consider him an ally and have left a growing number of political enemies in his wake. We reached out to a number of those disgruntled and confirmed in both families that there was an incredible amount of vocal dissent against the proposal.”
