@PaulHaynek@Crimson Paladin@ghastlyInc

Anyone else is free to respond if they want to be there, though.

TL;DR version: vampires and sapient undead are A) unageing, and B) by nature have huge amounts of mana to throw around.

@pandapolio: To begin with, you don't really give any explanation as to why he's hanging around the Iron Roses like you mentioned in PMs. He was told to, but why?

Aside from that, one of the glaring things is his abilities don't really give any idea of what he's capable of doing, and I want to know exactly what you intended with his backstory as well.

@VitaVitaAR Sure thing, I'd be happy to answer. So for the reason he is hanging around the Iron Roses is that he was sent to observe the captain. (or something like that) In the OOC description, you talked about how many of the nobles outside, and inside, the order want the way the captain is chosen to be changed. I'm just spitballing here, but it could be that a faction of nobles finally pressured the king enough that he had to appear to be doing something. An "impartial" judge like the college could have been chosen to observe the operation of the knights, and see how effectively their new commander is running it. I am entirely open to change that reasoning, but that is what I thought of as of this moment.

As for his abilities, I was going for something akin to an elemental mage. He is adept at most of the basic elements, but his specialty is gravity-based magic. With magic, he is able to change the weight and mass of objects. (or something like that) He also has the ability to see mana particles very clearly.

As for how the backstory links back to this, I was really interested in the Witch-Queen of Orodagor in the Locations section. My basic idea is that what happened to him was that a group of cultists who dedicate themselves to the "long-dead queen" were the ones who collapsed the tunnel. They are mostly very low-powered in magic and were able to do that by having multiple people working together. When they realized their luck at capturing a mage Chrollo was trapped and experimented on. The tattoos are mostly a dark language the cultist didn't understand but didn't want to risk cursing themselves with. They managed to write down actual enchantments twice while tattooing his body by pure chance. The first one was his eyes, which gave him the ability to see mana particles, and the second was a strengthening enchantment. This strength enchantment allows him to survive the stress of using gravity magic. After his eyes began to glow they realized they had accomplished something and began to scribble whatever they could find, including the elvish words Chrollo had been studying in his journal. And then in some probably elaborate way, I don't want to waste your time with Chrollo eventually escaped.

The reason I didn't put that part in was that I had begun to get really worried that my CS was getting way too long. Though I guess I ended up writing it all anyway so... If you have any questions or changes pls do not hesitate to state them, I know I can be a bit difficult and tend to ramble so I am sorry. Thx

Okay, so there's still some things there that need more clarification or... don't match properly? For one, none of the groups involved would have accepted an unrelated mage joining the knights to judge the captain. Like, the nobles want one of their own there, the king is currently backing the knights, and the college is independent of royalty. And it's too obvious. Basically, the nobles would send someone to join properly who actually has military training etc. to undermine them that way; it's not like an independent inspector. On the other hand, the knights should have someone magically proficient around, so they could ask the college that way.

Speaking of the college,

Secondly, minor point: mana isn't made of particles. More of a pervasive (and coloured by person) glow (more wave-based than particle-based to observe). Though that's just a note.

On the abilities section, apart from not seeing why you would need to be strengthened to use particular magic (why would it be stressful?), you're going to have to give some example of what you mean by powerful mage, so we can all get on the same page on how strong that would be in-setting?

I'll number the points to make this a bit easier.
1. Sure thing, we can change it to that other reason. It would probably make sense that after dealing with so many magically empowered enemies the knights might decide they need a mage's assistance. Up to you guys though, I was just thinking of this from a different way.

2. All cool, the mana glow really makes no difference in regards to this.

3. I guess my wording was a bit weird with this one. For most mages, gravity magic is quite dangerous, because you are susceptible to the effects of your own spell. AOE gravity spells are incredibly effective for subjugating groups of enemies, but there is always a chance you get caught in it and end up hurting yourself. Chrollo has a form of resistance to his own gravity spells, and thus can utilize gravity magic with more "broad strokes". At least that is what I was thinking.

4. As for his actual power I am somewhat unsure because I am not completely sure of the strength of mages in this world. I am completely fine with you guys making that decision if you want to, but I would guess somewhere in the upper half of mages. While he still is inexperienced and has plenty of room to grow, he is currently working right under the Headmaster of the college. I would probably put him on the level of a college battlemage, but with less experience. He has the advantage of wider use of gravity magic but lacks experience in combat, as well as proficiency in much outside attack magic.

Hope that did a good job answering some questions. I am just struggling a bit to find the power scale for him because while there are a few minor mages in the knights there hasn't been much high-level magic shown. On the other hand in Tyaethe's lesson recently someone stressed that the 2 things you should never fight head-on are a well-fed ancient vampire and an extremely powerful wizard. I obviously don't want to be that strong, so I am trying to find some middle there. Thx.

Oh, I sent on the wrong tab. Uh, whoops, missed out the second paragraph:
Speaking of the college, although someone that power-hungry and outright violent might be in it, we'd rather not fill setting-important NPCs and plot details this way? That wouldn't fit with it being a rather passive organisation right now.
Pretty high ranking or experienced is fine, but top of the pile not.

The way you've described the gravity magic puts it in an awkward position? Like, if he gets the spell working, then it's either ended the fight or not working at all, and if he doesn't have the control to exclude himself, then anything affected by it would also prevent any other character from being within the area... which, again, loops back to being awkward: if it's not strong enough to stop someone, it doesn't work to make it easier for the other knights because you're also limiting their movement. Like... having the skill to actually target someone or a small area would be better by not being so problematic to use when everyone else has swords and things? xD

If you have any specifics for what you wanted to do regarding attack magic in mind that would help?
