It was a relief to be back in the pub. Rose didn't blame her mom for going straight for the drinks. She had seen that look on plenty of people in her time as a bartender. She hoped her boss wasn't too mad at her for dipping on her shift. Especially after she had sent him the text about potentially being in danger. Were there flyers at the bar for her? Had her friends in Kansas started looking for her? She had at least called her parents to tell them she'd be out of contact for a bit because of a lead she had on her bio-mom. Something they had wanted for her for years, and here she was now standing next to her. Red hadn't abandoned her in the woods. However, Rose had ended up there it had been an accident. And now she felt like a kid not wanting to part ways with her mom, being so afraid that if she lost sight of her she'd never see her again.
"I'll go with you." She told Red. She felt her mouth almost say mom but caught herself. She wasn't totally ready for that. Mom was Mrs. Buckner and had been since she was eight. Rose didn't ask for a drink. She wanted her mind to be as sharp as possible.
"Before we go anywhere though we all need showers and a change of clothing." She grinned. The whole group had been traipsing through the muck. Her clothes were drying stiff and gross. There was no way she was going to stay in what she was wearing any longer than necessary.

"Oh there is plenty to smile about. Such as how are we gonna get back at her for being so annoying. He didn't get why Rosalia wouldn't just drop it. It had been done and there was no undoing it. So why couldn't she just move on. Colby could have let the push into the lake yesterday slide if she had stopped being so rude. But today had sealed her in his mind as the worst. Which made sense because she had a dog and dogs were the worst. Proven by the dog bite he had on his leg.
"Oh shoot I should check out my leg make sure that dog didn't do any damage."Maddie hummed in agreement as Colby proposed that they get back at Rosalia. He didn't know how they would, but he was sure that Colby could find a way to do so. When he heard about the leg however he instantly opened his eyes and decided it was priority number one. The alcohol didn't allow for him to think too hard on the situation, having had Maddie slip his thumb under the waistband of Colbys pants in an attempt to remove them.
"Oh right, well let's see it""Ack!" Colby said. He was still on the bed and Maddie was trying to pull his pants off.
"I was just going to pull the pant leg up. He didn't bite that high." It was a bit of a relief actually that the dog had missed sensitive bits. He wiggled trying to get out of Maddie's attempt to strip him.
Maddie looked at Colby inquisitively as if he spoke a foreign concept to him. His eyes widened as he removed his hand away from Colbys pants.
"Oh… right. I guess you could just roll up the pants leg to look." Embarrassment was faintly creeping its way in him, overshadowed by a new feeling and a racing heart.
Colby laughed. Not at Maddie. He smiled his half smile.
"Drunk you is silly." Now that he was free he sat up and pulled his pant leg up. There were four little puncture wounds were the dog had bit him and it was red on the site.
"Dang that dog. But it doesn't look like it'll bleed or anything. I clean it before we leave just in case."Maddie sat up on the bed looking at the dog bite from there. Well, looking at those calfs and getting distracted before finally focusing on the issue at hand. It didn't look too bad, though definitely wasn't looking good. He got up from the bed, a small wave of wooziness hitting him as he tried to stabilize himself. He walked up behind Colby as he wrapped his arms around his waist and nestles his chin between Colbys shoulder and neck giving him a light kiss.
"You should wrap that up too. Don't need to catch an infection while out here."Colby found himself leaning into the touch. If he could purr he might at that moment.
"Yeah. Later." He didn't kiss back. But he was leaning backward into the hug.
Maddie smiled as he kept him in his arms. Swaying a pit side to side.
"If that's for later, then what do you want to do right now." As he asked he pulled Colby even closer, pressing his chest against his back and securing himself around his best friend.
Colby suddenly became very aware of the body pressed against him. He shifted a little bit.
"I uh...I don't know." He said a little flustered. Color rising in his cheeks.
Maddie loosened his grip slightly as he swung around to face Colby now. Having kept his arms still wrapped around him before finally pulling him back in, looking at Colbys eyes as he was inches away from his face almost daring him to kiss him.
"I'm sure we can figure something out.""Was there something specific you had in mind. I didn't. I just needed to get away." Colby didn't pull away. Instead he leaned ever so slightly closer. Their lips not yet touching. It would be so easy for that to happen.
"You're drunk. We can lay down till you're sober. Just rest." Colby wanted to do more than rest, but he didn't want to cross any boundaries.
Everything was firing off inside of him as Colby moved in closer. Was he teasing him? Did he actually want to kiss? Did he realize what it was that was happening? Maddie had so many unanswered questions, and all he wanted to do was kiss Colby. But he was too afraid to cross that line, too afraid to ruin a good thing. So he moved in even closer, lips still not touching, but being one breeze away from having them meet. His eyes moved downwards as he looked towards his pants.
"Well...I have something we can play with in my pants." There was a pause as he thought of what to do.
"You wanna play Go Fish or War? I'm up for either."Colby raised an eyebrow surprised at first at where Maddie was saying. It was weirdly forward for him.
"Oh I love Go Fish." He said grinning. He loved most card games honestly.
