It's months late and in the middle of the night, but I've finally posted~!
I need no teasing to return here~

I hope some others will come back... I've also thought about it a bit and wondered if March might be a good time for another recruitment post? If memory serves me, I believe March is the month when the community Return to Yharnam event takes place. I figure there might be a greater chance of people with Bloodborne on the mind around then.

sigh Just to make it clear, I'm still here and eager to continue this story, and will continue to be so. Never doubt that, at least.

And I think that would probably be a good idea, @DrabberRogue; we could certainly use an infusion of fresh blood in the RP to keep things going. As far as I can tell from looking things up, it seems that "Return to Yharnam" officially starts March 10th, so I'm planning to use that as the date when I make the recruitment-post.
If you (or any of the others, if they are still lurking) have anything you want to be included in that recruitment-post, feel free to say so and I will try my best to accommodate it. You could of course also just say it yourselves in posts of your own in the recruitment thread; that might be a better look, to see your opinions coming from yourselves rather than through me.

You know, lately I've been thinking relatively often of the Greek myth of Sisyphos, who was made to push a boulder up a hill only for it to roll back down again each time he neared the top; doomed to eternally repeat that very same hopeless task over and over again, with no way for him to use his wits to think his way around the problem.

No one responded to the recruitment thread. Not a single one. Not even in PMs.

Shit...

Crap, I died again. A year later and I'm still disappearing for a month or two between every post...
Really sorry about that, as much of a broken record as I may sound like at this point.

I wonder if people are put off by it being an rp that's already started and seems to have lost most of its players? Even though we haven't even left the clinic in the story, a year having passed since the rp's start probably looks like a lot. I know when I'm considering joining an rp, how long its been going and how many people are active in it is usually taken into account.

On that note, are you still interested in trying to continue? The sweet, sweet hunt always brings me back, but it occurs to me that my apparent monthly loss of motivation might make me ill suited to being the only player...

Well now! Heh, as luck would have it I have actually been contacted by someone else in PM who wants to join, and who has been somewhat at peace with the idea of being the only player, at least for a while, given that no one else had been active here for... quite a while.

To that end I'm not only interested in continuing the RP, I fully intend to do so. However... I have to be honest. I always maintain that real life comes first and that it's all right if you can't always post within the one-week window I'd ideally like to stay inside regarding new post frequency (which is not even to say that I expect each player to post once a week, but rather that the RP as a whole gets at least one post a week), and that absence is all right as long as it is informed absence (that is, let us know if you're not going to be able to post for a while).
But disappearing entirely for weeks and months at a time without a word isn't going to work, especially when it happens so regularly that it's become a pattern. I've been checking you profile intermittently, and you haven't even been logging in to RPGuild. Going forward, if you want to give it another go, I need you to promise me to get better at not disappearing. Be active, and if you can't, at least drop a sentence or two to let us know it'll be a while before next post.

Oh nice! What fortunate timing~

I can do that. The main reason why I tended to end up vanishing is, somewhat ironically, because I felt guilty about lurking when I didn't have the motivation to post. I didn't want it to look like I was on the site and not doing anything.
...Kind of a weird thing for me to think now that I put it to screen and read it back.

Anyways, I'll make an effort to be logging in and making contact so I don't disappear. Promise.

Wowza. The quality definitely took a big ol' nosedive off a cliff by the end of that. I wanted to go into some more detail . . . but at least it's finally up.

As it turns out, my worksite actually has gdocs blocked on its network. My plans of getting anything meaningful done in the downtime periods were ultimately foiled by this unfortunate discovery. Of course, I did promise myself I was 10,000% going to go super saiyan and get it finished today no matter what, so I blasted out the latter half of that on my phone. I'm pretty sure I ended up destroying my janky old android's touchscreen in the process though. Bloodborne's difficulty has nothing on Lord Autocorrect.

All jokes aside, I'm happy to stick around whether I'm the only player or not. Bloodborne's pretty much one of my favorite IPs. You can expect a post from me at least once every 1-2 weeks depending on my schedule. I can respond much quicker than that in the OOC if you need something from me. I've actually a good bit of downtime at work to check-in at regular periods. Not sure that I want to make doing actual posts by phone a big habit though.

Hmm... Okay, just a couple of small things:

Race: (False) Paleblood Hunter

So which is it? I need to know that for my handling of the character, at least, even if you don't want to make it publicly known. Just as a reminder, (false) Paleblood is my shorthand way of referencing "false Paleblood or real Paleblood," which means it can reference both the false and genuine disease. I'd assume that you mean false Paleblood Hunter since you included the parenthesis, but I do need that part clarified.

Ludolf Reinhardt was born several years before the events of the Night of the Bloodmoon

Age: 34

This RP takes place about five years after the events of the game
First sentence in the OP

So, something about this timeline doesn't add up. "Several" is defined by the dictionary as "more than two but not many." In this case, however, "several" would appear to mean 29. From the rest of the CS it seems as though it's simply the word "several" that confuses me, really, because it seems to acknowledge that a long time has passed and seems to generally have a fairly orderly timeline.

Is Ludolf's caretaker and/or his adoptive sister (for lack of a better term) characters that we would be familiar with, or also your original creations? If so, if you have any further details on them feel free to write me a PM so I can maybe use them in my plotting.

Other than that everything seems to be in order. Mostly I just need to ascertain whether Ludolf is a Paleblood Hunter or a false Paleblood Hunter, and then the character is accepted.

My apologies. I wasn't aware of the shorthand. He's intended to be primarily a false Paleblood Hunter for now.

I see why that may be confusing. I used "several" for lack of a better word because I wasn't entirely sure how many years passed between the Cainhurst Massacre and the Night of the Bloodmoon OOC. It's never really been clarified canonically; I wasn't sure if you had specific plans for the timeline between those events. I did some research on it and most estimates range between 10-30 years before the events of the Bloodborne. I had to make sure my character was older than that as well to have memories related to it. I ended up going with I thought an ideal age might be (6-7 years old) and worked from there.

This is definitely mutable as well. I don't mind making him older or younger as necessary to better fit in with the working timeline. I tried to relax on using hard dates/specifics/locations as much as possible so as not to accidentally trod on any plots or outcomes you had in mind.

These are all original creations. They are somewhat inspired by some we encountered in-game (Arianna and Imposter Iosefka, specifically), but these are all non-canon with their own goals & designs. I'm happy to hit you up in PM and talk more about them. I was going to write a lot more about the specific relationships and what went on between them but it was pretty hard to do on the phone (and the same thing above about being leery with canon material or inadvertently messing with future planned stuff).

Oh, it's not Ludolf's age I took issue with; that seems to fit pretty well with the timeline. My only issue, as I concluded at the end of that paragraph, seems to be that the use of "several" in that context is confusing and misleading, because it would typically be used for a smaller number. To me, at least, "several years" would not be 29, but rather 3-9 or so (with bias towards the lower-to-middle of that range). It's one of those nebulous terms that don't really have an exact definition aside from "not many," where "many" itself isn't exactly defined either. Still, I would probably say that 29 years is closer to "many" than it is "several." It may just be me, though.

And no, your character doesn't interfere specifically with anything I had planned... not in a destructive way, at least. I mostly wanted to know more about the two background characters for plotting, as I said, as living "relatives" - even if not actually related - are always worth keeping in mind for the GM; all interpersonal connections are, really.

Now, with that little bit of confusion out of the way I think you're free to start posting IC. Do you want me to write an introductory post "placing" your character into the scene, or do you want to do that yourself? You can use this post as a pretty close descriptor of what Ludolf will see when he awakens; the post was originally written for another player character, but that player only ever posted once IC, so I feel that it's not too much of a stretch to say that the character relapsed into coma immediately after waking up.

My apologies for triple-posting, but there's something I wanted to bring up with you guys that I have been pondering for a great long while but haven't been able to decide on: the name of the country in which the game takes place in. Yharnam is the primary city and the current seat of power and likely to always have been its capital, and I'm personally pretty confident that at some point, (some of) the country was (part of) Pthumeru, though it obviously isn't recognized as such anymore. But none of the lore actually names the land.

So since it didn't feel right for me to just think up a name on my own, I wanted to ask for suggestions. What do you think the country should be called, at least for the RP?

I've always thought of Yharnam as more of a standalone city-state than as the capital of a larger country. A lonely, isolationist metropolis sequestered away in the mountains, having forgotten the position it once held as the capital of Pthumeru.

If it's to currently be the capital of a country though... I dunno. Yharnam has weird naming conventions and I'm bad at naming things. I'm fine with whatever y'all come up with.

It's quite all right. The beauty of (false) Paleblood Hunters is that the memory loss from metamorphosis allows them to be as fleshed out as you want them to be; they may remember a lot and/or be from Yharnam, or they may remember nothing and be from a foreign land, essentially leaving them as much of a blank slate as the player character from the game.

There's nothing in particular that stands out as problematic, so the character is accepted. That said, would you mind if I offered a little constructive criticism? It's okay if you would prefer that I keep it to myself.

Most things I generally won't comment on, like minor typos (like accidentally writing "taunt" instead of "taut") or small grammatical errors that aren't necessarily confusing, but what catches my attention about your writing is the general lack of flow between your sentences. When I read your CS the sentences felt somewhat disconnected from each other.

Am I making sense? I hope I am. It's nothing terrible, it's just something I noticed.

@Dark Jack Complete sense. I'd like to think I'm a half decent writer but I'll admit that describing physical features in a good, cohesive way is not my forte (same goes for personality). I'll try to fix it up a bit later today and make it look a little more readable. Thanks for the tips!

One question to add, how should I pop into the game? Am I going to wake up at the same clinic where the other woke up or a different one?
