Abigail “Atom Bomb” Zebrowski

Abby felt like her joke hit and missed with the other inmates; She thought it wasn’t that bad of a joke. Taking a forkful of the gruel in front of her; shoving it into her mouth. Feeling like the odd man in this group of mischiefs. Swallowing the lump of mush before speaking again; “All we need now is a priest and a rabbi, and we got ourselves the joke of the century.” Scarfing down the rest of the gruel on her tray; feeling much better than she was a couple of days ago. She was not being given much food, to begin with; so any kind of food even if it’s slush Abby is happy to have. “Ya don’t know what a clown is?” The blonde peered up at the cannibal woman. “A clown is someone that makes people laugh and entertain them. Could be stuff like juggling or making balloon animals.

Chuckling at the clown’s joke; “That’s pretty good bud.” The blonde girl stopped herself from choking on her food. “My name is Abby.” She thought that the clown could be of use to her. Perhaps he could help her with her plan to escape. Even if he could not help her; he would be able to help her get some contraband. Her ears perked up when one of the inmates asked them if they were strong; she opened her mouth to say something but quickly closed it. She didn’t think she was very powerful. At best her powers could give someone a serious burn, or become incredibly sick. But she was not up there with people like Übermensch or Captain U.S.A. “I guess I’d say I’m capable in a fight.” Abby said shrugging her shoulders.

The guard that tried to hold onto the handcuffs held onto his hand in pain; “God damn it….” He screamed out. The other pressing the cattle prod against Ameliya’s ribcage. Sending many volts of electricity into her body. Soon helping her onto her feet; “Fuckin bitch. Ya try something funny like that again, and you gonna be put into the hole for a couple of months.” The guard took the cattle prod while the other handcuffed Ameliya. The injured guard shocked Ameliya once again. Bringing her to the cafeteria with the others; uncuffing her and sitting her beside Abby. She was given a tray of slop looking quite miserable to the other inmates. “Ya guys should lay off on her; She’s been through enough already...we all have.” This got her a smack with the bud of the cattle prod. “Shut up.” The burned-hand guard shouted. Abby spat some blood on the tray below her; “Fuckin piss ant.” She cursed with a sneer on her face.

Alfred Gunther/The Frostbite

Never One...

Without the Other

"Hehehe! He gets it!" before suggestively pointing down at his own lap. His giggles soon died off and, under his own breath, he said "Bonehead tells it better, I guess..."

With that, he shoved another slice of peach into his mouth. "By ah' way," he began as he chewed. "Who ahr yoo guys a'eeway?" His lips audibly smacked between each word. "I'uh Jack" He swallowed. "Jack Brennan. Entrepreneur. I'm a guy that knows how to get things," he lied. In Jack's mind, value was it's own protection. If Jack was good for something, maybe he wouldn't be given a hard time by the other inmates.

Alfred gave Jack a humorous wink on top of a barely contained chuckle, appreciating that he alone was able to receive the joke that the atomic woman blurted out when they had first sat around this miserable table in this miserable prison, with miserable food to boot. Add the miserable people in it, and their circus of misery is complete. Though as the Frostbite often said, many of these things, creatures of legend and myth, and criminals and killers of the highest order do deserve do be in here... but not them. The Frostbite and its host, no, its partner, only seek to destroy a council of villains, and their allied councils of evildoers that merely happened to be viciously wealthy, so that they may evade the clutches of justice with only the touch of a button. They should be out there...

"I'm Alfred Gunther, from Juneau, Alaska. And in here," he pointed to himself, "Is a cranky winter spirit that is as old as the world itself... Oh, don't you hear that? He says that you're... uh... 'more tolerable than the others'. Well, don't mind that."

Then a few more people came towards the table and sat upon the seats. There was that one known as Ameliya-

"Too fiery for my taste.", the Frostbite grumbled within Alfred's mind as the fire woman strode into view. "With that kind of attitude, she will never have a chance of escape. They will always be watching her."

"Aren't all pyrokinetics... hot headed?"

"No. My sister, the Summer Blaze, is not a fool."

Someone with a German sounding name sat down as well, asking for strength. Or rather, asking Jack if he was strong. Strong? Maybe, since he has the build. But why ask that kind of question here?

"Don't you recall, Alfie?", Frostbite once again interjected. "This one asks other prisoners about who's strong and then marks them for single combat. Truly a vain one, seeking to validate their own strength through comparisons with others."

"... I see..."

"I mean, if you want to fight, then at least have the decency to make sure it's a fair battle with both parties at full, uninhibited strength! Not like we can do that in these halls, but you get the point."

"Fair enough, Frosty."

Then there was the rotting ghoul, Randolph. Alfred made sure to gulp all the food down before the smell of rot entered his nostrils, since he knew that he would probably lose all his appetite if such an offensive scent assaulted his nose. So by the time Randolph actually got down, Alfred had finished eating, leaving only a clean slate of a tray in front of him.

A few other characters arrived in the scene. The so-named Arc Dragon, the demoness Reuyn... or was it Rueyn? Ruin? Ruyn- ah fu-

"We really talking about strength in a place like this?" She scoffed before shoving a spoon full of muck into her mouth.

"Furthermore, what kind of strength would that even refer to? The strength of one's punches, how much devastation can be brought into a given area, how much fear could be inflicted?"

Alfred dropped several icecubes into his glass of water and sipped from it. "Power cannot be measured through any one standard alone. And it is my opinion that brute strength is simply the least of all powers one can have. Ehem. Anyway. I may seem small and insignificant in appearance, but I had destroyed a whole council of sorcerers. One of the ten did escape, but the fool ran into a portal. Poor Frosty still feels unfinished about the whole affair."

Alfred was almost inclined to say something as well, but held his words until after the guard was already far from earshot. "Well that went swimmingly...", the cryomancer said, shrugging. "Try to be chill with them, if you get what I mean. That's how I got them to give me my requested spicy noodles at lunch times. It's a good break from the muck we usually get."

Kailani

”English isn’t my first language,” Was the bright response to Abigail, a colorful grin curling Kailani’s lips, visible behind the muzzle. She wasn’t technically wrong. ”Though, we never had balloon animals either. Are they tasty?”

Maybe the Borehole enjoyed interaction between prisoners, since there always seemed to be so few empty seats in the cafeteria during mealtime. Either way, it meant that their table was soon filling up. A man like a corpse on her left, a strange sweaty man who could apparently get ‘things’, the animal man who always smelled delicious but talked too many words was hanging about, a woman who's voice was like thunder and earthquakes, as well as some more human and not-so-human looking people. Including her hallway companion that always made the floor light up when they walked! Though, she curiously seemed to have had a problem with her guard. Kailani’s eyes followed the man that had brought the redhead close, watching him leave after his rough treatment of the two human females to her right. Unblinking. Staring.

- and what was that strange smell that covered up the delicious talking man?

Finally, with an inaudible snap that broke the tension in her, Kai turned back to Abby and Ameliya with that same natural rictus in place.

“Hey, don’t worry about it! If they don’t starve me to death first, I’ll definitely eat him when I can get this muzzle off.” She paused for a moment, humming thoughtfully and glanced along the walls before pointing at a particularly rat faced guard standing post across the room, escorting some prisoner no doubt. ”And him. He’s a pervert. Likes trading shifts to get camera duty all the time.” The second half of her sentence was a stage whisper, more repeating gossip and a particular warning she was quietly given than any personal experience. Apparently she looked very small for a human.

Kailani’s eyes swept along those who had filled the table once more, noting the others she was warned of. Demons, vigilantes, other cannibals. Nothing to really be afraid of! At least, she didn’t think she felt any fear? Fear was a foreign concept. Unlike hunger. Speaking of, her eyes swept along the table for a third time, this time pointedly taking in the trays of her table mates.

Well well well, it seems someone was finished their breakfast. Kailani’s gaze snapped up to meet the Alfred Gunther’s, her grin stretching even further as she leaned into the table, her crouched position on the bench bumping her legs into the edge.

“Are you done with that? Thanks!” She reached out, the cuffs jangling at her wrists as she grabbed his spoon and promptly shoved it through the muzzle without waiting for an answer. The metal crunched easily under her teeth, disappearing into her gullet in a mere moment. The young woman could almost feel the disapproving glare of her escort, but as long as she didn’t go overboard it should be fine. Next she turned to the corpse man at her left, the vigilante - whatever that meant - that was only stirring his bowl.

“Not hungry? Do you mind if I…?” Kailani gave him a hopeful look, clasping her hands in front of her in a classic begging position. And peeked around him to the woman with the voice of a rockslide, giving her the same. Vaguely, she could tell that her escort had tensed up against the wall. After all, the guard was the one who had warned her against these particular people - but he had food that he wasn’t eating and the other one was wearing a mask and couldn't even eat anyway!

Truly, that was the real crime here.

A frown stretched across Charon's features as he locked eyes with the physically fit yet no less scraggly looking blonde man.

Time seemed to stand still for Charon as he watched the man sit at the same table he'd been assigned to. He knew this one. Körbl. One of the ones his implant had been tested on without success. Also one of the inmates he had been kept from interacting with the most. Likely due to the fact that were the two to engage the results may well be catastrophic for the Asylum. Now that the implant had been successfully applied however, perhaps the staff wanted to test how much they could trust it to reign Charon in.

'Awful lot of faith.' Charon mused to himself. His thoughts of tactics and violence and how to debilitate everyone in his immediate vicinity were interrupted. A cheerful, somewhat annoying voice rang out amongst the conversations happening around the table. Aimed directly at him.

“Not hungry? Do you mind if I…?”

He shifted his gaze towards the young looking muzzled girl. Hands outstretched in a begging posture while she eyed the plate of slop in front of Charon. Although his stone face didn't show it, he was momentarily taken aback by this. Most of the inmates, for good reason, gave him a wide berth or tried to intimidate him to fuel their own ego.

Charon's first initial thought was to dump the contents of the plate on the floor while maintaining eye contact.

After a second of deliberation he felt that too petty, even for him. Particularly with the fact that the woman was already collared and muzzled. Like a dog.

"No. I don't." Charon answered, voice deep and coarse like sandpaper.

He slowly slid the plate towards the woman. He made sure to continue his unblinking stare of cold disdain in order to ensure she did not take it as any gesture of compassion or comradery. Were the situation to change here, he would put her down without any remorse.

He looked back over towards Körbl. For such an off-putting person his question of the table's strength seemed to inspire a lot of discussion. The type of which Charon had no interest in entertaining.

Instead he looked past Körbl. Past the strange ice manipulating man, the punk looking woman, the insecure man vying for attention, the dull looking woman who had just sat down. Actually that did almost catch Charon's attention considering she'd strong armed a metallic looking man who was several times her size. But instead Charon focused on Ameliya. Having just been shocked by one of the guards for insubordination. While she, and the punk looking woman who'd attempted to stick up for her and was similarly reprimanded, seemed to move on from the incident. Charon kept his gaze focused and his hands tensed.

He wasn't ever given much warning when the guards would use him to take down another inmate. Better to be ready, just in case.

Rueyn aka The Reaper

Noise... always so much noise... Shut the fuck up, all of you.

Rueyn met Ameliya's eyes and gave a nod in return, tilting her horned redhead in hello. She noted that she seemed to have been tased recently, her hair was a bit staticky and stuck up in ways it didn't normally.

"I'm guessing you put one in his place and he didn't like that," she observed, the question mark unspoken.

She then gave a loud, demonic rumble of appreciation as the air cleared up from the unholy miasma that seemed to permeate this place, replaced by the smell of thunder and lightning, and she had a feeling she knew who did it, but she wasn't sure wether to directly thank her. Eh, she would just be herself about it. There was no need to pretend or make an attempt unless someone else did and even then she didn't trust them until she was sure she knew what the long con was, if there was one.

"Ozone smells so much better than the filth that usually passes for filtered air in this shithole," she commented, voice rumbling and distorted by the mask, then turned to look at the girl with the muzzle, who had her hands clasped together in classic beggar fashion, asking if she could have the food that she wasn't eating.

So, that's the Devourer. That's an interesting form she chose for herself, perhaps it reflects how young she really is. The muzzle must frustrate her, I could relate, once-upon-a-fucked-up-time.

"Be my guest," she leaned forward and nonchalantly handed over the tray of slop that they insisted on giving her every time, no matter how many times she dumped it into the trash or gave it away to whoever wasn't pissing her off. "They insist on giving me this shit when I don't even need to eat unless I want to. Aye, here, bet you haven't tried this yet."

In a rare moment of unexpected civility and perhaps even friendliness, she slipped a handful of cube-shaped ginger candies from seemingly nowhere and onto the tray as she gave it over to the girl. Romanov meanwhile, watched her prisoner intently, on edge waiting for the moment she might need to step in and calm the reaper before she got violent, but relaxed a little when she saw that Ruyn was merely sharing her ginger. Not entirely out of character for her (Romanov had been offered some a few times), but most wouldn't know that.

"Conversations of strength and weakness and who can fuck up who better is fucking useless. There will always be someone or a group of someones who can and will kick your ass. Save your breath so I don't have to smell it, along with every other jackass's unwashed armpits, genitals, rotting teeth, and shit-crusted ass cheeks. Even Death demons don't smell like rotting corpses. No offense, Randolph. 'Least you've a valid reason for it."

Ahh There was the Reaper that she knew best.

Rueyn ended her piece by removing her mask with her bone-colored claw-tipped hand to set it on her thigh, revealing the exposed bones and wicked, long fangs and serrated teeth. The scar that ran above her left eye apparently had been so deep that even her cheekbone bore scoring, and judging by the slightly darker color in the groove, it was an old one. She opened her wicked jaws to pop some of the ginger cubes into her mouth, the flash of a pierced forked tongue as she did so.

Rueyn had learned that this face of hers was actually an advantage in this kind of environment, and did it every so often to remind people that she was not human, not bound by human limitations and was still capable of ripping you to shreds, without her powers.

"What do you mean by...strong?" Randolph interjected. "if you are looking for strength of character I believe it a difficult endeavor among criminals... Strength of will? I will indulge my pride and claim that I would be a fine specimen of that, I've endured experiences that would break the spirit of most. Are do you mean something so simple as strength of flesh? I admit I am lacking in that department somewhat, I neglect martial prowess in favor of strengthening my mind."

"We really talking about strength in a place like this?"
She scoffed before shoving a spoon full of muck into her mouth.

Her ears perked up when one of the inmates asked them if they were strong; she opened her mouth to say something but quickly closed it. She didn’t think she was very powerful. Körbl Meier

"What's this?" Grinning, his teeth showed brightly as Körbl listened to the various replies. More than he expected even.

"And here I thought everyone had lost their spines. How quaint." Körbl blood boiled and heart pounded with renewed excitement, he had resigned to thinking there won't be anyone willing to step up after his four altercations with other prisoners. Yet there are still willing to say so.

It didn't really matter what power they had, physical, mental, magical, technological, supernatural, Körbl didn't give a single thought about it. So long one was ready to answer, it was more than enough for him.

Already from afar, movement and activity from the guards had already spread as they try to move an unruly prisoner into place. That brief distraction was all that Körbl needed as he grabbed the wooden spoon. "Then onto my second question."

"Who amongst us...is the strongest?"
Körbl this time said loudly, body readied and willing to jump into action. It's been a long time since he had gotten into a proper fight.

Frankly, even a tussle against the guards seemed tempting at this rate. The pounding in his head was reaching a crescendo and lust for battle bottled over the past few month oozed outwards. Reaching a point where it was like an overflowed dam.

(If GM wants to have guards taze/restraint Körbl, this is the chance.)

Randolph’s aura traveled with him, the stench assailing the other inmates. Though Randolph usually maintains an air of sophistication to his demeaner and behavior, he can’t help but smile a little for every person he disgusts. Some primal warmth emanates within, a instinct locked deep within the subconscious satisfied. It is a good feeling to cause dismay in others by presence alone, makes it less likely they will transgress on him.

The only one unfazed was the muzzled girl who seemed…attracted to him. Randolph heard of her, some sort of voracious alien with an insatiable appetite. He should keep his distance lest he wind up on the dinner plate for once. But on the other hand, his curiosity demands observation. What is she? The Defiler has interesting tastes, perhaps she is some sort of creation of his? Or maybe a spawn of Abhoth, one who kept its progenitor’s appetite? He noted to probe her mind at a later date, for the sake of his curiosity.

"No offense, Randolph. 'Least you've a valid reason for it."

“None taken. My kind have a different instinctual behavior to that sort of stimuli because, well, It’s no secret. I do recognize it is as alien an idea to you as hygiene is for me…” Randolph turned to the demon, trying to recall her name. “…Rueyn, right? I don’t believe I had the pleasure of meeting one of your kind, if you being a demon is true. I’d appreciate an opportunity to probe your mind, if you are willing, I’m curious if my theories bear any fruit or if your origins prove too esoteric.”

"Who amongst us...is the strongest?"

Randolph looked towards Körbl, confounded for a second. Randolph knew he had a tendency to start fights with the stronger inmates, but Randolph now realized it was a test of some sort. Where he wanted to fight his way to the top and remain there. At first Randolph was irritated at a foolish goal, his lips began to curl into a snarl. But then Randolph was distraught with introspection. Afterall, isn’t this a mirror of his own journey? The constant and never-ending road of self-improvement. He seeks to perfect the flesh, while Randolph seeks to perfect the mind.

“I see where this is going and I forfeit.” Randolph said, a solemn expression forming. “In a physical, and honorable fight, I don’t feel confident in my odds. But I do respect your commitment to physical improvement. I thought us inimical, but now I believe we are share much more semblance than I believed. If anyone else wants to fight, don’t let me stop you…” Randolph concluded, before having a second thought and adding“ “…besides, they might let me eat the loser.” Randolph said with a grin. They let him eat a few metahumans before, and Randolph enjoyed sampling the taste their powers gave their flesh, something like a box of assorted chocolates. One never really knows what they will taste.

Finally, with an inaudible snap that broke the tension in her, Kai turned back to Abby and Ameliya with that same natural rictus in place.

@Blazion

Looking over at the bright and cheery words coming out of her fellow cellmate, she couldn't help but chuckle at her plan to eat the guard that had gotten her ribs good with the cattle prod. She appreciated the offer. Her ribs still felt sore though as she thought about it, they were definitely going to bruise but she would not let a hand go to touch them. Not here, in front of everyone.

A smile teased at her lips though and she commented, "Might as well just eat all the guards then." With a smirk, she still faced the table but her eyes slid to look at the guards standing behind them. Maybe the thought of being digested by a small girl would be an embarrassing enough death to make that asshole think twice. Though as she watched, the old guard didn't seem to be shaking in his boots but maybe it was just her imagination she couldn't help feel like he looked a little paler.

Looking back at the ravenous girl, she just managed to catch sight of her throwing a spoon down her gullet. That got a proper laugh out of her, the laugh causing her to cough slightly as it caused her to remember how sore her ribs were. The little girl was odd but she couldn't help that she actually didn't mind her company.

Though with the sight of her eating more of others' meals, Ameliya made sure to take another scoop of the gruel just so her food would not manage to just disappear in front of her. Looking to see it was the scarecrow of a man's meal that had been stolen, she looked curious to see if he was disappointed but only instead found him staring intently at her.

But instead Charon focused on Ameliya. Having just been shocked by one of the guards for insubordination. While she, and the punk looking woman who'd attempted to stick up for her and was similarly reprimanded, seemed to move on from the incident. Charon kept his gaze focused and his hands tensed.
@Drag

Ameliya rose one sharp red eyebrow at him, questioning exactly what he wanted. Though this did not seem to create an answer though as he seemed completely tense and focused. Having no idea what his problem was she instantly thought of two reasons, and jokingly winked at him before snorting and continued eating her food. If he wanted to go at her, she would be ready.

[@IrishAngelQueen]

Quickly eating up what she had on her tray, Ameliya watched Rue with curiosity as she not only gave the girl with a black hole for a stomach, not only her food but somehow candy she had somehow managed to get in this hellhouse. That was surprisingly kind of her in this place. Her curiosity was only furthered by the sight that lay under Rue's mask.

Seeing the demon's complete face for the first time brought along even more questions with it. One was how the hell she managed to keep that candy in her mouth. Though with the sharp teeth and exposed bone gave a surprising feeling of nostalgia. Rue might be an interesting sight, but she was not the first demon she had ever met. Though she might be funnily enough one of the more kind ones...

Scraping the remnants of breakfast, Ameliya made quick work of her food. No telling when she was going to lose it after all. Especially, with a woman that not only ate every food in front of her but the spoons as well. With that thought in mind, she cleaned the spoon of the last of the food and then threw her spoon over towards Kailani. Not like she had any use for it anymore.

"What's this?" Grinning, his teeth showed brightly as Körbl listened to the various replies. More than he expected even.

"And here I thought everyone had lost their spines. How quaint."
@Restalaan

Ameliya's attention was instantly grabbed back as she looked towards the heavily chained sitting down across the table from her. This kind of talk only led to fights and fights she was too used too had more often than not meant the difference between her surviving the day.

Already from afar, movement and activity from the guards had already spread as they try to move an unruly prisoner into place. That brief distraction was all that Körbl needed as he grabbed the wooden spoon. "Then onto my second question."

"Who amongst us...is the strongest?" Körbl this time said loudly, body readied and willing to jump into action. It's been a long time since he had gotten into a proper fight.
@Restalaan

Maybe it was because today had already started off as a challenging day thanks to the asshole guards, or maybe it was because she too had not had a proper fight in a while but a bold and defiant grin grew across her face. Only the strongest survived and she was going to damn well survive this miserable purgatory.

So she stared back at him with eyes that seemed to flash with fiery light as she answered him, "Well I don't know about the strongest, but from my experience, most men do tend to burn up all the same."

Alfred Gunther/The Frostbite

Never One...

Without the Other

“Are you done with that? Thanks!” She reached out, the cuffs jangling at her wrists as she grabbed his spoon and promptly shoved it through the muzzle without waiting for an answer. The metal crunched easily under her teeth, disappearing into her gullet in a mere moment.

Alfred didn't even get to say anything when the alien woman had taken his spoon and devoured it with a terrifying relish. It wasn't even edible. Just a stale piece of stainless steel that would have caused some serious digestive problems for anyone that wasn't an extraterrestrial vacuum cleaner… but not Kailani.

"The lion, the witch, and the audacity of this bitch.", Frostbite called out from the back of Alfred's mind, eliciting a slight chuckle from the cryomancer. "Look at that! She just ate your spoon! How… how are you laughing?"

"No, I don't mind, especially now that you've already done the deed.", Alfred said to Kailani with a shrug. The primordial entity inside him raged, but he ignored its furious petitions just for once. "Go on, eat the fork and the knife and the plate and the tray, too. And the glass. Wait, no, not the glass. I need it."

Alfred winked. She was funny, at least for now. He figured if he kept to her good side, she wouldn't try eating his hand. Or would she?

Rueyn had learned that this face of hers was actually an advantage in this kind of environment, and did it every so often to remind people that she was not human, not bound by human limitations and was still capable of ripping you to shreds, without her powers.

"Oh my, scary...", Alfred muttered loudly. Demons were something that the Frostbite hadn't spoken of, not a lot at least. It could be that it had a bad experience with them, or simply have not gained the opportunity to interact with one, not until now. Maybe it just didn't have an opinion on them.

Frostbite whispered once again. "Tread lightly with demons. They are terrifying."

"I know, I can see that. Though what kind of demon is this anyway…"

"Who amongst us...is the strongest?" Körbl this time said loudly, body readied and willing to jump into action. It's been a long time since he had gotten into a proper fight.

"Maybe let's set up an arena and find out.", Alfred said with a quiet voice, the usual kind. "Though I'd prefer being able to transform into my uh… full form, if you know what I mean. Not exactly doable when there's a suppressor on my ankle. Heh. Though it's probably you, anyway. We've seen enough to know that."

Nope, Alfred didn't really think that. He was just telling Körbl what he thought he wanted to hear and eventually steer the discussion into something less of an ingredient for a prison brawl that might see his book and noodle privileges revoked.

So she stared back at him with eyes that seemed to flash with fiery light as she answered him, "Well I don't know about the strongest, but from my experience, most men do tend to burn up all the same."

"Uh huh...", Alfred slowly nodded. "Out of curiosity, I must ask. How many have you... hmmm, incinerated? Mundanes, non-mundane, how much of each?"

Abigail “Atom Bomb” Zebrowski

Abby checked to make sure that she didn’t lose a tooth while defending the other girl. “Fuckin faggot.” She cursed once the guards were out of earshot. She wanted to do something to make the guards stop hurting her and the other inmate. Even if they were criminals they were still people with feelings and wants. She desperately wanted to escape this hellhole; even if she had to murder the guard to do so. But that would be the last resort for her; she was no murderer like the rest of these inmates. She couldn’t relate to them in any way; Abby was just a regular teenager from Boston. “But your no different than the rest of them.” A voice spoke from her behind her. Turning her head to see an older man wearing a bright blue suit and a large white cowboy hat. He didn’t dress like the other inmates which perplexed her. “You don’t fuckin know me.” Abby responded with an angered look on her face. “I know you very well Abby, ever since you killed those teenagers a couple of years ago.” The man said with a grin on his face. Scolding the man that had mentioned the accident; she leaned forward with a grimace. “Keep your mouth shut about that; I don’t wanna the others to think I’m a child killer.” She whispered turning her head back to find the other inmates were frozen; She started to panic but the man from behind her was now sitting in front of her. “Don’t worry their still having their dull conversation; this conversation is happening in your head.” He took a bit of food from Alfred’s tray; popping it into his mouth. “This tastes terrible.” The man commented spitting the food back onto his tray.

Who the hell are you?” Abbi shuffled in her seat starting to feel uncomfortable. The man smiled once again; Abby could see the man's teeth were yellow and crooked. "I apologize miss. My name is Mr.Q. It is a pleasure to meet you.” Mr. Q was now sitting in front of Abby holding something in his hand. “I want to help you escape this place, and this will be instrumental to your plan.” He opened his hand revealing a passcode. It was the passcode for the doors to the jail cells. “Okay but once I get out of the doors; I’m gonna have to deal with the guards. How am i going to get past them?” She asked raising an eyebrow. The crooked teeth man motioned his hands towards the frozen inmates. “You have many friends Abby; simply look around you these are the people that will help you escape.” “If you need to contact me again; here is my card.” Handing Abby a tarot card
.

Before Abby could say anything else she found herself back in the conversation the others were having. She looked at her hand seeing the tarot card and passcode; quickly putting it into her pocket. During her time speaking to Mr.Q it would look like she was spaced out mouthing out the words to her conversation. She turned her head towards Ameliya; “Are you okay? I fuckin hate those assholes.” She motioned towards the guards with her head. Abby didn’t think of herself as the strongest here, but she was more than capable in a fight. “I can handle myself in a fight; I just need some more juice to get myself ready.” She said addressing Körbl. Recently she had been faking medical aliments to get close to the MRI and x-ray machines; siphoning radiation for when she tries to escape. She didn’t know much about the other inmates, but there were certain ones she knew about and should be careful of. Her eyes turn towards Charon. He was one of the heroes that put her into his place, but she was sure he didn’t recognize her. After all her face must have blended in with the other criminals he fought. Abby was curious what kind of abilities they all had; perhaps they could be useful to her escape. “Maybe we can measure how strong we are; if we tell each other what our superpowers are? I'm curious what you guys can do?” She didn’t care much for the pissing contest they were having; she wanted to see if they were useful enough for her plan.

Lionel Gift

Meanwhile, while Gift was having breakfast he would notice a note underneath his tray. An interesting thing as not many people had access to communicating with him. Inside of the note was the following written in pencil.

“Dear Mr. Gift

Firstly it is a pleasure to be speaking with you; secondly I am a big fan of your villainous work. I was wondering if you would be interested in being a part of my plan to escape this place. Your help would be greatly appreciated, and you will be smelling the fresh air in a couple of days; if you accept my offer. Please get back to me by writing on the back of this note.

Yours’s truly

Mr.Q.”

Lionel raised an eyebrow at the message he'd been given. So then, there was someone in this place with more than a little bit of influence over the guards. Most inmates could only hope to bribe or convince guards to allow minor indulgences at best, such as his suits and vegetarian meals. To not only have enough sway to allow secret notes to be passed but for them to allow it to be passed to himself of all people...this Mr. Q must be quite formidable. Lionel's cell was far removed from the others, having been built specially to hold him. Ever since his first year here, where he'd nearly caused an uprising by manipulating a guard and then a fellow inmate, his security had been taken extremely seriously by the staff here. The guards who brought his meals were the same ones to escort him to the research chambers, the only time he was allowed out of his cell. They were also not rotated nearly as often as the other guards, the staff preferring to keep them on primarily only in his wing in order to familiarize them with his tricks and minimize the rumors about him. These guards were forbidden from discussing him openly, even amongst themselves. Regardless of these precautions, rumors tended to persist in a place like this. He had heard of whispers of a dangerous monster in cell XIII. He was rather flattered, but ultimately his reputation didn't matter much. Only his work mattered.

Lionel had a keen interest in any knowledge of his fellow inmates, storing up the overheard gossip, pieces of rumor and fearful murmurings in his memory in order to form a fairly accurate picture of each of his fellows.

Lionel returned to his corner of the room with his papers and crayons, which had initially been given him when he'd first arrived here as a sort of entertainment. They'd likely expected him to draw or color on them, but instead he'd found a much better use for them. He used them to amuse himself by keeping records of his thoughts on the other inmates. This wasn't particularly necessary, as his memory was infallible, but it served to pass the time during this long incarceration. He flipped through each of the papers one by one once again.

Ameliya "SHC". Pyrokinetic. This one was Worthy. Despite her quick temper she was rumored to have a soft spot for those weaker than herself and a certain moral code. She could possibly be a useful tool due to her volatile nature, if manipulated properly. However, she posed a high level threat due to her ability. Immolation was a painful death, and his own powers wouldn't be able to respawn from them quickly. Therefore, though she was a candidate for salvation, she should be handled with caution.

Körbl Meier. Enhanced physical capability and prowess with blades. This one was Unworthy and not useful as a tool. His focus on strength and penchant for confrontation made him too single minded and quite imbecilic. He would pose only a low level threat and was beneath further consideration.

Randolph "The Ghoul". Enhanced physical prowess, animalistic form and necromantic diet. This one was Unworthy, yet Lionel believed respect was due to him because of his obvious intelligence and the fact that he was one of the only other inmates older than Lionel himself. He could possibly make a useful tool, though Lionel believed manipulating him would be difficult and risky. He posed a mid level threat due his tendency to eat his victims corpses. While Lionel had never had his body eaten before, he imagined it would take several months to respawn from.

The Devourer. Alien life form with enhanced appetite and capacity for consumption. Lionel had not learned the proper name of this inmate from the guards, only the nickname. She seemed to be singularly driven by her appetite, which would make her a useful tool if properly motivated, though perhaps slightly unpredictable. She was Unworthy, due to a distinct lack of suffering. She posed a mid level threat for the same reasons as The Ghoul.

"Arc Dragon". Electrokinesis. Another inmate known to Lionel only by her alias. She was Unworthy due to a seeming lack of mental acumen, though she had potential to awaken as Worthy should she suffer greatly or overcome her inherent apathy. She would not be a useful tool due to her reserved yet unpredictable nature. She was a high level threat for similar reasons as the pyrokinetic. Lionel would likely avoid interaction with her if he could help it, as it seemed unlikely to produce favorable results.

Brock Jameson. The guards he'd overheard called him "that spider dude". Apparently his abilities had to dp with adopting some arachnid traits and being able to communicate with and, to a degree, control the creatures. He was a bit of an enigma. He had suffered somewhat, but not much. His ability was such that it could be utilized for or against society, but he seemed more content in isolation. He leaned toward Unworthy, but only due to his erratic nature when upset. He posed little threat, but could perhaps be a valuable tool.

Julia Kray "The Black Death". Possessed a touch that was quickly fatal. The exact nature of her death touch was unclear, but it seemed most similar to some rapid onset poison. She was currently Unworthy despite having suffered, as her ability seemed incapable of allowing her to be anything but a danger to those around her. Still, there was always room for improvement. She posed only a low level threat.

Mary Vincent "Iris": Kinetic Energy Manipulation. Her unpredictable and uncooperative nature meant she would not make a useful tool. She alone amongst all of his fellows had he yet to decide whether she was Worthy or Unworthy. She had certainly suffered enough, but her influence on others was widely varied. He had decided he needed to observe her in person before making his decision. Either way, she posed only a low level threat. If it came to it, she would be fairly easy to save.

Alfred Gunther "Frostbite". Possessed of an Entity of primordial cold. This was a bit of a tricky one. The man Alfred was Worthy, but otherwise unremarkable. The Entity, however, was Unworthy yet deserving of respect. The power it wielded was quite impressive and it was probably the oldest consciousness here. It would not be easily manipulated. Yet, if successful, it could be a very useful tool. Lionel hesitated to attempt salvation, but that too was possible, if difficult to attain. He would likely need help on this one. Still, despite the impressive nature of the Entity, this one posed only a low level threat. Being frozen preserved his body rather than destroying it.

Hemlock "Digital Ghost". Technopathy and EMF manipulation. This one was Worthy and quite intriguing. His abilities would make him an excellent tool, though he seemed to be difficult to manipulate due to his paranoid nature. His threat level was relatively low, though the diversity of applications of his abilities made this assessment rather fluid. It would be wise to handle him with care. He was a prime target for salvation, as his projects if left undisturbed could be of great benefit to mankind. He was likely the second most enticing target amongst all of the other inmates.

Marina Montressor "White Fang". Wolfish transformation. She was Unworthy due to her selfishness and lack of restraint in the face of adversity. She was not one to respect, but perhaps one to be wary of due to her intelligence and manipulative nature. She was unlikely to be a useful tool and was more likely to be an obstacle. Still, she ultimately posed only a low level threat herself. However, if she successfully manipulated another more dangerous inmate against him... He believed it would be best to eliminate her quickly if she became a problem. She was simply too much of a wild card.

Abigail "Atom Bomb". Radioactive. This one was probably the most Worthy of all of the inmates here. If there was one inmate he desired to save more than any other, it was her. Just the thought of her salvation filled Lionel with joy and he trembled in anticipation. She also had potential as a useful tool. Her kind nature and mild suffering made her easy to manipulate. However, she posed quite a high level threat due to her abilities. Those would require a long time to respawn from if he was exposed to them too long. Longer than he could afford. So while she was the most tempting target, she would require careful planning and flawless execution. Lionel could hardly wait.

Rueyn "Grimm"- Demoness Reaper. This was easily the most dangerous of all the inmates. Though her immense suffering and deeply buried kindness made her Worthy, she was a catastrophic level threat due to her soul reaping ability. Singularly among all of his fellow inmates that ability alone had the possibility of permanently destroying him. He planned to avoid all interaction with her if possible. No attempts to manipulate her would be made. The risk was simply too high. If interaction could not be avoided, placation and passivity would be the best course of action. Lionel had never groveled in his life, nor was he used to affecting a submissive demeanor. But in the face of true death and the threat to his salvation of others, he would do whatever he must not to antagonize that particular individual. She alone amongst his Worthy fellows was not a target for salvation. Besides, a demoness was unlikely to be able to be redeemed anyway. She was likely already lost.

Simone "Gremlin". Sangromancer. Erratic and utterly insane, this inmate would not make a useful tool and was entirely Unworthy. That said, from what Lionel had heard he possessed a singular cleverness despite his insanity thst could prove rather troublesome. Lionel disliked him already. He would avoid the nuisance if possible. If not, bugs like him were best exterminated. His abilities made him a mid level threat, however, and Lionel would likely need to choose his moment with some care.

Hauta "The Storm." Wind manipulation and demonic blessings. Lionel had not been able to gather much information on the past of this individual, but from what he had been able to glean he was long lived, lethal with a blade and his wind powers and somewhat haunted by his past. He was presently Unworthy due to his fearsome reputation, yet Lionel had a feeling that more information was needed. He could possibly be utilized as a tool with the right prompting. His abilities were unlikely to cause too much damage and therefore he was only a low level threat, unless he got creative with his wind abilities. Lionel didn't plan on giving him a need to do so.

Interestingly enough, Lionel hadn't heard of this Mr Q. before this note came to him. He'd thought he knew of every inmate in the facility yet somehow this one had remained unknown to him. He was a complete mystery. This was more than a little suspicious. Perhaps this was some sort of trap set by Dr. Novis? But no, Novis wasn't clever enough for that. The note mentioned "villainous work" which brought a frown to Lionel's small brow. Dr. Novis would also know better than to imply his work was evil somehow. Perhaps this Mr Q. needed to be educated on the beauty of his purpose.

Lionel turned the note from the mysterious Mr. Q over and began to write with one of his crayons in a flowing script unusual for such a childish medium.

"My dear Mr. Q,

I must confess, you have me at somewhat of a disadvantage, knowing of me while keeping your own identity hidden. This is not a feat that many can claim. I admit, I am both intrigued and impressed. You appear to be a man of intelligence and means. I see no reason to refuse to hear your plan out. I do ask that you not refer to my salvation of others as "villainous". I can see why you might perceive it thusly, however this is a misunderstanding born of ignorance towards my true purpose. I would be glad to educate you further in the future, should you desire. Now then, assuming we understand each other, I am willing to hear whatever plan you might have. As a matter of interest, I have noted that one of the guards in my wing is quite green to the facility. You may be interested to know that he suffers from a trauma in his past regarding a child who was killed, either by him or by someone he couldn't protect the child from. I thought I'd mention it in case the information might prove useful to whatever clever scheme you are concocting. I look forward to further correspondence. It is such a pleasure to have someone to converse with after all this time.

Yours respectfully,

Lionel the Adjudicator."

Lionel slipped the note back where he'd found it. The guards would return after breakfast to collect it. Lionel grinned to himself. Finally, his time would soon arrive. If this Mr. Q could influence the guards to pass him notes, then the prospect of escape was not nearly as far away as he'd thought. Oh, he'd planned on escaping soon anyway, but this new development could expedite his plans exponentially. His work was out there, not in this cell. It was always waiting for him, a comforting certainty. He could almost taste it already.

Kailani

The best breakfast Kailani had ever had was actually shortly after coming to The Borehole. The researchers had sat her at a table absolutely laden with food and let her eat to her heart’s content, even bringing in seconds, then thirds, and when they inevitably ran out of food just began piling random objects on the table. The table itself was last to go, though the researcher had stopped her from eating the chair. By then, though Kailani could never truly be sated, she was … content enough. At least enough to happily answer the questions asked of her.

Of course, the next few days she was given the absolute minimum they could get away with to test the equilibrium of her appetite. It didn’t feel that long ago. She can still hear the groan of her stomach, feel the pain of a thousand hungry little teeth in her torso, and the churning of her body beginning to eat itself inside out.

At least they don’t let it get that far anymore. Just close, sometimes.

So this morning was turning out more than just nice, it was the second best breakfast the Devourer had here! Sometimes others offered her leftovers, and one time even a whole plate since they weren’t hungry. Yet now? Now, the corpseman had given her his bowl first, prompting Kailani to beam at him despite his stare, jagged like the crunch of glass between her teeth. As he was next to her she even offered him a bump of her forehead to his shoulder in ‘thanks’ - her ‘personal’ guard made a strange face and tensed up at the action, but what was Kailani supposed to do? She was too short to shoulder bump him properly!

The small girl pulled the bowl close, keeping one arm possessively wrapped around it even as her honey gaze slid to her other target for scraps, that bright expression only increasing into a wide, toothy grin at being offered a second helping! Kailani’s free hand took the tray from the Demon - only to make a curious noise in the back of her throat at the little cubes added to it.

Enrichment cube? Either way--

“Thank you!”

The tray joined the bowl in the possessive grip Kailani had around them, and quickly acquired friends. She snatched the spoon thrown at her from her redheaded hallmate, prompting another chirpy little thanks that was half cut off as the alien shoved the spoon in her mouth greedily. Next was Kailani - while refusing to let the tray out of her arm - scrabbling to reach over and grab the other gifted utensils from Alfred. She briefly eyed his bowl and tray, but ended up leaving it despite his offer to take those as well.

“I can’t get them through.” She stated simply, and for a moment naked longing was plain in the little extraterrestrial’s gaze as she peered at his place settings. Of course, then Alfred winked and it took her a moment to realize this must’ve been a joke. It was appropriate to laugh now, yes? She laughed just to be sure.

Their conversation turned back to talking of strength, which Kailani had absolutely no interest in. Mostly since there was food in front of her that she was allowed to eat, but also since she was sure none of them were stronger than her teeth. Maybe the rest of her body, though. But not the teeth! Still, the others were working themselves up with talk of strength, so a little growl built up in her throat in warning before she focused on her plunder.

With two extra servings, utensils, and even the strange little cube offerings, the Devourer let the others talk with their words words words, focusing entirely on getting every scrap of the slop. It was honestly gone in record time, a prickly feeling on the back of Kailani’s neck like the scrape of a tree bark on her tongue - fear of the food being taken away. Maybe not by those around her, but if not them then the guards deciding she had too much. So the contents vanished, the muzzle clanking against the bottom of the bowl as she attempted to spoon the very last dregs, followed shortly by the familiar plastic and sometimes metal utensils, leaving her with the strange little cubes.

In a rare moment of thoughtfulness, Kailani picked up one of the little things and rolled it between her fingers. The little sprinkly bits clung to her fingertips, but the rest of it didn’t bend. A quick sniff too-

“It smells spicy!” A thoughtful hum, even as she popped it into her mouth.

A pause.

The tray clattered as Kailani promptly shoved the rest of the little candies in her mouth, dropping one in her haste to get them all in the muzzle. She disappeared under the table after it, ate a piece of fallen food on the ground while she was down there, then banged her head on the bottom of the table reemerging. Ow.

Out of food, Kailani’s gaze had drifted over to Abigail, taking her in. The girl was acting odd, seemingly not focused on anything but mouthing along to something unknown. Just as the little alien was considering if she could steal her utensils too, the girl came back to the table’s conversation. With a sigh of disappointment, and a grumble to herself about still being hungry, Kai finally joined the actual conversation.

“I don’t have any superpowers. That’s a human thing. Um, but I eat a bunch? Like, things you guys don’t apparently? Oh, and I breathe out oxygen. That’s apparently a big deal.” She tilted her head, seemingly considering something.

“And I’m called Kailani!”

Charon didn't betray much emotion inwardly or outwardly when the fiery red haired girl responded to his piercing stare with a wink. Normally, Inmates who were aware of him did their best not to make eye contact with the wraith-like man wherever possible. This one, the fire girl, was either much more brave, or much more ignorant, than the standard inmate anyway. Either way, she seemed to settle in line after being met with the cattle prod. Likely just choosing her battles for the moment however, Charon was fairly sure she was far from done in trying to test what she could get away with.

'Charmed.' He dryly thought to himself. She was one to watch out for, in any case.

That said, she was far from the only person at the table. It had filled with all manner of "person". Charon took note to give at least a glance at each of them, assessing the way they carried themselves, trying to place them. There was the dull speaking electric woman, the punk woman whom Charon vaguely recognised. Perhaps one of the few he'd beaten down but didn't have time to dispose of before the authorities arrived. Happened now and then in his line of work. There was the-

Thunk.

The little feral girl bumped her forehead against Charon's shoulder. Gratitude on her expression clear despite the muzzle concealing a good chunk of her face. Charon had actually forgotten her existence shortly after giving her his meal. Inwardly he was admittedly somewhat taken aback considering most people in Thornwood, understandably, tried to give him a wide berth much less touch him. Outwardly, his only response to Kailani's gesture of thanks was a slight raise of an eyebrow. He actually took note of her as she dined on the gruel before her. Charon's plate quickly disappearing under several others as a few different inmates also offered their food, either from not needing to eat like Charon or perhaps trying to appear tough. Regardless, it seemed the Feral Girl was the most popular one at the table.

"Who amongst us...is the strongest?" Körbl this time said loudly, body readied and willing to jump into action.

This drew Charon's eyes back onto the rest of the table.

The man who more resembled a canine spoke up first. Immediately withdrawing from any kind of chest pounding or fight that was sure to follow such a question. Any notion that it was out of pacifism or even an attempt at reform was evaporated however as he immediately added the possibility he could eat the body of the loser. Only reinforcing Charon's belief that all the dogs in this facility needed putting down. Some, more literally than others.

The fiery woman remarked glibly that all men seemed to be susceptible to being set aflame in her experience. That was true in Charon's as well. But then, most people in general were also quite susceptible to being disembowelled, as he had also discovered.

The ice man was open to the challenge provided he could change into his "Full form". The punk looking woman from earlier echoed similar sentiments that she too could handle herself but not without some "Juice". That either of them expected a proper fight would be allowed at all much less a fair one was laughable.

Lastly the feral girl, in between mouthfuls of slop and cutlery, chimed in. She had no formal superpowers. She wasn't even considered human, it was implied. She did have a name. 'Kailani'. It had no meaning to Charon, if he had it his way, it'd soon have no meaning to anyone.

Amidst all of these contrasting voices, Charon did take note of the other red haired woman. Piercing face that reminded Charon of a reptile. Confirming her non-human features, she opened her maw to reveal her rows of jagged serrated teeth. Built purely for tearing at even the hardiest flesh. Charon knew her by reputation, The Demon. He wasn't particularly inclined to believe her claims of demonhood, but stranger things had happened. Himself, for example. But that said, he knew a display when he saw it. She'd even gone as far as to shoot out her forked tongue, like some kind of on-stage performance.

'Scary.' Charon mused internally. When it came to displays used to sow fear, Charon personally preferred skinning someone alive and leaving their body behind.

But all of this was a performance in one way or another. People establishing themselves. As fighters, scholars, survivors... Hungry, in Kailani's case. Charon didn't entertain performances. He made his point and was done with it.

Speaking in his typical low, gravelly monotone. Charon's voice was likely to not even be heard among the rest of the chatter at the table. But his look right into the eyes of Körbl would be hard to miss even if the German were hard of sight.

"Were we to engage." He said, matter-of-factly, ignoring Körbl's actual question. "I would kill you. And neither you nor anyone else'd be able to stop me."

There was a cold circle of steel that pressed itself at the base of Charon's neck. His own personal Guard. It wasn't a typical threat however. The weapon itself wouldn't really do much to dissuade Charon when he began to "work". Instead the Guard reminded him of the actual deterrent he now faced.

"Fortunately for you. Unfortunately for me. I won't be able to follow through on that fact. Not unless the implant added to me is temporarily turned off. Or removed."

Charon merely clasped his hands and looked elsewhere in the cafeteria. If there was a response to his words, even from the German himself, Charon wasn't particularly interested. As far as he was concerned, all of his words, heard or not, were plain and irrefutable truth.

Instead he surveyed the rest of the room. Perhaps if an incident did occur. Staff would deem it necessary to let the wraith off his leash. Then, both men would get their wish.

Körbl Meier

"That's disappointing," Körbl said off-handedly. "But sure, do what you want with the corpse."

So she stared back at him with eyes that seemed to flash with fiery light as she answered him, "Well I don't know about the strongest, but from my experience, most men do tend to burn up all the same."

"Then let's see how bright I'll burn, come closer then, fraulein." Körbl pointed to her with his wooden spoon and accompanied by a large smile. Daring her to take the first move first.

"Hmph, perhaps the moment you can...transform, then I'll definitely come back for you."

The guards must really be lax today, if they're allowing them to talk this much. Körbl thought idly before settling back down, looks like he'll have to go empty of a fight.

For now.

Hearing Abby asking what they can do, Körbl stared at the spoon before eyes glanced towards the child that was eating everything, including the metallic parts of the utensils.

Then it hit him, Körbl glanced towards the spoon and then tray. Maybe it'll work?

"I'm merely a humble sword master...without a sword. That broke when I was arrested." Taking this opportunity, Körbl waved his hands and position himself at an angle. His tray mirroring him as part of it hovered from the table, just also enough that the guard assigned to the sides wasn't able to see it.

"It was during a fight with one of the New York heroes," Körbl smiled widely as he recalled that particular fond memory. The rush, the speed, and the thrill. He felt truly alive during that moment. "Ah, it was a great fight."

All the while, he swapped his hand of holding the spoon and rested it upwards on the tray. Pressing the tray downwards.

Then quietly, his other hand rested on the edges of the tray, fingers gripped it before he exerted his full strength downwards on it like a hydraulic press machine. Steadily and quietly, he bent its downwards like folding a piece of paper. Then flipping it upwards again in a similar fashion, he had hoped to induce metal fatigue onto that part alone.

"I was, unfortunately, lacking, fraulein, and was trounced like a sack of potatoes." Körbl drew out his story until he finally felt it soft and pliable enough that a single sudden motion would've snapped that small part of the metal. "Of course, ever since then, they placed all this...onto me."

While he pointed the spoon to himself, then to the cuffs, and shook his legs to indicate the iron ball and chain around his angles, Körbl decided to risk it all as he turned towards the omnivorous child thing.

@Blazion

"Eat a bunch? Then have this for dessert, kleines kind." Körbl flicked his wrist, and slide his tray towards her alongside the wooden spoon. Not a single stain or remaining splatter of his leftover flew off during the entire process of sliding, the spoon merely wobbled. It then precisely stopped right in front of her as well.

"Eat up, you need more vegetables to grow big." He gestured to the spoon, mockingly even.

If one paid close attention, one of the edges of the tray was cleanly plucked off, almost like it was sliced by a knife, but with how fast the whole thing occurred and hoping that it wouldn't seem odd amongst her other tray. Körbl was betting his chances that no one would notice, especially as hidden in his hand now, was a sharp piece of metal.

@Restalaan

More like they were distracted with something else. Several of them put their fingers to their ears as com pieces crackled to life before looking to the door of the mess hall. Within a few seconds the doors burst open to reveal a young woman on the taller end of petite with rainbow woven hair done up in pig tails. Her prison garb had been modified so that the shirt showed her midriff and the pants showed peeks of her legs, the scraps from which appeared to be what was holding up her hair.

“I'M BACK BITCHES!”

Iris popped to one side, then the other, then once forward before going and grabbing a tray a food. She ignored the protest of the inmate she had just cut in front of and sauntered directly over to the group stand off.

Iris was yet another of the inmates known for starting fights and injuring guards. This last round of absence from the general population had been caused by one of the other inmates making a snide comment about Rue's face being so ugly to need a mask. Iris, who happened to have been nearby, had then leaped on the man before Rue could do more than turn around. She then proceeded to try and rip the guy's face off screaming, "How's about we borrow yours then huh?!”. The situation had been made worse when one of the new guards hit her with his baton in an attempt to knock her out. The facility had gone into lockdown for several minutes until finally someone got a hit in with a stun gun. That had been two months ago and she had finally been given permission to mingle with others again.

“Heeey! What's crackin' ma homies? Randy, long time no see! Abby, how's ma girl? Lookin' hot today Amy! Hey! Even Frosty the Snowbird is here! Oh and if it ain't my favorite bottomless pit!”

She greeted each of them around the table like she would friends in a high school cafeteria. It was hard to tell if she hadn't noticed the tension in the room or simply didn't care about it. When she passed Kailani she slid a lollipop out of her pocket and ruffled the girl's hair affectionately. She finally came to rest next to Rue, plopping down with her tray casually next to the much larger she-demon and giving her shoulder a playful nudge.

“Hey boo, what's new? Give me the deets!”

Iris got a scoop of goop off her tray and instead of just eating it held the spoon a few inches above her to let it slide slowly off into her open mouth. It was only after swallowing it that she saw Korbl and his challenging stare. Charon apparently didn't exist.

“Strongman Dan! Whatchyou doin' wit all dat junk inside dat trunk huh? You pickin' fights again?”

Rueyn aka The Reaper

Noise... always so much noise... Shut the fuck up, all of you.

“Not as alien to me as it may be to others. Aye, that’s my name,” Rue nodded in reply to Randolph, locking eyes with him. “My race, as a whole, tends to stay in their own realm for the most part. Humans who think all demons are evil plague this realm, and many a demonkin has been slain simply for being a demon traveling through the realms at the wrong time. I’m willing to converse with you, I’d like to hear these theories of yours. Perhaps I could even tell you how my race came to be, if we get to it.”

Rue actually enjoyed such conversations, but in a place like this, filled with the kind of creatures and beings as it was, they were sorely lacking. She rolled her eyes so hard she could swear she saw her own brain when Meier asked who amongst them all was the strongest, forevermore exasperated by what she saw as a pointless goal. She stood by what she said about there always being someone stronger than you, the fact that the motherfucker was locked up right now should be proof of that but no one ever said you could successfully educate a rock. Oh wait, that was an insult to rocks, at least actual rocks didn’t actively seek out fights to the death without a care for anything other than increasing their own strength.

“Are you fucking serious? Count me the fuck out,” Rue replaced her mask with a snarl and narrowing of her unnaturally colored eyes, the scar on the left side crinkling with her expression. “I’m not subscribing to this pointless pissing contest just to get myself locked up in solitary. On second thought, that might be nice, actually. Maybe then I could pretend everyone really did just die in a hole to leave me in peace.”

She then laughed at Ameliya’s comment about most men burning up all the same, appreciative of such humor and deadly promise, and also at Kailani stuffing the rest of the candied cubes she had given her into her mouth. Another reason why she ended up liking females better was how they would sass you sass and the fact that some of them didn’t even know they did. Something about a woman being sassy, bad ass and maybe even a little crazy made Rue want to purr.

”Maybe we can measure how strong we are; if we tell each other what our superpowers are? I'm curious what you guys can do?

Rue furrowed her pierced eyebrows, the dark blue studs gleaming in the light. She wasn’t going to just give away how strong she really was, surely the others wouldn’t be so open as to outright admit the whole truth of their abilities? Eh, even if they did, it was their funeral if someone found their weakness and killed em.

“I can’t do as much as I used to outside of this shithole with all of these dampening cuffs on,” she rumbled darkly. ”But I can still rip a man apart with ease and disappear into the shadows, two of my favorite things. Especially if I just killed someone and then disappear. Mmm it’s fun.” she left out the fact that they usually deserved it somehow. Let them think of her as cold blooded monster, ruthless and capable of a heavy amount of carnage even without most of her supernatural abilities. She didn’t want anyone trying to use her. She was done with that bullshit.

Rue noted the action that was too quick for normal eyesight as Meier chunked off a piece of the metal tray and hid it in his hand, something she doubted anyone else saw and made a mental note to stay the fuck out of this one if it came to an actual fight. She was in no mood to get her ginger candies revoked so soon after she just got her ration of it for the next two weeks. Rue was tempted to get up and leave right then and there, but decided against it when she heard a familiar voice above all the others, one that actually made the Reaper give a rumbling churr in response to it, pleased at the arrival of the new person.

The red headed demon smiled under her mask as a young woman on the taller end of petite with rainbow woven hair done up in pig tails appeared, wearing the usual prison outfit whose shirt had been rtorn or cut to show off her midriff and whose pants showed peeks of her legs, the scraps from which appeared to be what was holding up her hair. Iris was a loudmouthed, crazy ass bitch who liked to start fights and Rue actually kinda liked her.

Especially since her recent lockup had been the result one of the other inmates making a snide comment about Rue's face being so ugly to need a mask and Iris, who happened to be nearby had then leaped onto the inmate before Rue could turn around and violently remove his tongue from his for uttering such words.

Rue had merely watched with great pleasure as Iris did her best to rip the guy's face off screaming, "How's about we borrow yours then huh?!”. Two months of good behavior and they let her out again, Rue was pleased to see. She wanted to say something to Iris about it, as they had never previously spoken much before then, and Rue felt Iris deserved her respect for immediately punishing the asshole on her behalf when she didn’t need to. Even crazy people had reasons for doing crazy shit and Rue wanted to know what Iris’s was.

Rue looked over at Iris with a wink and another smile under mask as the smaller female gave shoulder a playful nudge.

“Hey boo, what's new? Give me the deets!” Iris was chaotically herself, as always. Rue happened to love Chaos. “Strongman Dan! Whatchyou doin' wit all dat junk inside dat trunk huh? You pickin' fights again?”

“Doing his damnedest to start one, it seems,” Rue told her, offering her a few candied ginger cubes. “They let you out on good behavior? They didn’t appreciate your attempts at demasking the skin from his face, or so I heard.”

Rue heard quite a lot in this shithole. Some of it useful for possible escape and leverage against others. Most of it was useless posturing and pissing contests. Like the one that was trying to get started at these two tables.

"Then let's see how bright I'll burn, come closer then, fraulein." Körbl pointed to her with his wooden spoon and accompanied by a large smile. Daring her to take the first move first.
@Restalaan

Ameliya raised an eyebrow at Korbl's words. What in the hell was going through his mind. Did he have a death wish? Her hand flicked out, a little flame dancing upon her fingertip. Well, one thing was sure, she did not like him aiming such a pathetic and on top of it wooden tool at her.

"Uh huh...", Alfred slowly nodded. "Out of curiosity, I must ask. How many have you... hmmm, incinerated? Mundanes, non-mundane, how much of each?"
@The Man Emperor

Just about to send over the flame to the wooden spoon and get rid of such rude pointing, she actually heard a question that made her stop and contemplate. Her hand closed and the flame left with it as she thought out loud, "Hmmm 142 contracts, and I believe 96 requested for the target's death"

She then shrugged nonchalantly, "but if you mean outside of my work, well I didn't keep count."

The argument with Korbl was not forgotten but she no longer cared enough to set his implement on fire. There were more interesting things going on. Leaning back on the bench, Ameliya held herself up by putting her arms behind her.

@Eviledd1984

"I burn," Ameliya said out loud and then chuckled slightly, that had to be a really obvious thing right? Especially if anyone else had caught sight of her little flame a moment ago.

@Blazion

Looking back to here the eat all you want buffet killer replying, Ameliya mused slightly. Seems like she finally had a name for the small girl, not that that would really stop the nicknames she had been coming up with.

@Restalaan

Hearing Korbl call himself a humble swordmaster, Ameliya snorted out a laugh as she watched him go on his grand speel. Humble my ass, Ameliya thought to herself as she half-watched him go on about fighting heroes in New York. Looked like she hadn't been the only one who had gotten sloppy around those supes.

“I'M BACK BITCHES!”
@Klumsykrow357

Ameliya's head perked up to the familiar voice. Thank goodness for the break from the talks about strength, and any thoughts about how many of them had gotten on the bad side of the so-called superheroes.

“Heeey! What's crackin' ma homies? Randy, long time no see! Abby, how's ma girl? Lookin' hot today Amy! Hey! Even Frosty the Snowbird is here! Oh and if it ain't my favorite bottomless pit!”
@Klumsykrow357

A smile played at the side of Ameliya's lips as she watched the rainbow whirlwind make herself at home at the table. She wouldn't lie, it was nice to see Iris back in all her chaotic glory. It looked like meals were going to be more a lot more entertaining now.

Alfred Gunther/The Frostbite

Never One...

Without the Other

“Maybe we can measure how strong we are; if we tell each other what our superpowers are? I'm curious what you guys can do?” She didn’t care much for the pissing contest they were having; she wanted to see if they were useful enough for her plan.

"Hmm, how do I say this…", Alfred leaned back on his seat, scratching his scruffy chin.

The Frostbite whispered. "Tell her everything. I want to see how she reacts!"

Alfred mentally sighed at the words of his companion… symbiote spirit. It was proud and full of itself, if nothing else. "I'm a cyromancer, that much is obvious from the ice cubes that I've been dropping into this glass of water. That's just the tip of the iceberg though. I'm conjoined, united with a primordial spirit of winter. I can let it out, transform into a phoenix of ice. In that state, I… it can fly around, freeze things to death. Frostbite is what I call it… since that's the only name it would tell me. Either way, it can be a bit cranky…"

He looked down at the power suppressor on his ankle, sniffing. "With this on, I can't transform outside my cell. Would be nice to stretch my wings elsewhere… I hope so one day."

Surely enough, Alfred let out a rather tamed chuckle at Kailani's antics, noting how she had absolutely no discomfort shoving those pieces of metal and ceramic into her mouth. He swore he could hear what sounded like the grinding of a hundred buzzsaws and welding machines from inside the alien to cut through the stainless steel… but a second of analyzing what was reality and what was not told him that was just his imagination.

"It really is just your imagination, but there is a grain of truth in it.", Frostbite spoke with a chilling whisper that was at the same time rather comforting. It was as if the cold nature of its voice soothed Alfred's ears and mind. "That thing can eat literally anything, save for raw energy, perhaps."

"She might try to eat my hand."

"One does not bite the hand that feeds them."

"Ehhh… sure…"

Were we to engage." He said, matter-of-factly, ignoring Körbl's actual question.

Alfred shrugged as the death threats were thrown around like candy in a children's party, except that the children were not children at all, but rather were a motley assortment of superpowered criminals that would kill and destroy at a whim. And there wasn't any candy in here… well, someone told him he smelled like mint. Who was that again? The cryomancer could hardly remember. Memory was a fickle thing when one's own mind is divided, theirs and at the same time not.

Ah, right. Vikky, one of the guards assigned to his cell. She handed him mint candy a few times as if only to prove that point. Frostbite said that she was probably some college student that couldn't find a safer job to pay off her loans… poor girl.

"Hmph, perhaps the moment you can...transform, then I'll definitely come back for you."

"Might be quite a while, then.", Alfred replied, spinning the glass that he was holding. "I hope you can catch up when I'm… flying."

Now the question was answered. "So the answer is 'yes'." Alfred nodded, flashing out a small penguin sculpture made from ice in but an instant. He gazed upon his creation, applying finishing touches where he saw them fit.

"Hmm.", Alfred looked back at Ameliya. "We both have quite the body count, but yours is undoubtedly higher. I count ten sorcerers, who had shackled Frosty to their will for centuries, and a few dozen of their cohorts and guardians as casualties of my… ehem… crusade. There are more in the list…"

“Heeey! What's crackin' ma homies? Randy, long time no see! Abby, how's ma girl? Lookin' hot today Amy! Hey! Even Frosty the Snowbird is here! Oh and if it ain't my favorite bottomless pit!”

"What in the ten thousand years of horrible, deathly existence did she just call me?"

"I call you Frosty too, though."

"You're the only one that's allowed to do that!"

Alfred shrugged. The entreaties of the Frostbite were quite constant, but he wanted something or someone to break up the tense mood that all the strength talk had created on the table, and the arrival of Iris did just that. Her manner of speech reminded him of old friends, some of whom can no longer be counted amongst the living. Damn the Cabal…

Kailani

It was fun, in a way, listening to the others talk about themselves. Then again part of Kailani’s good mood could directly be attributed to the amount of sustenance on offer to her, the low rumble in her stomach that seemed like a constant companion quieted for … at least an hour, probably!

It was never enough.

The alien’s eyes were drawn to her left again as the corpseman spoke, voice low and scraping - teeth against rock, crushed to pebbles. He was hard to hear, but the weapon being pressed to the back of his neck was much more obvious. The seemingly ever-present rictus on Kailani’s face widened, showing her teeth locked behind the muzzle as her gaze moved to the guard ‘warning’ the man beside her. Only when the guard stepped back, when the vigilante’s own attention moved from Körbl, did she go back to listening to the latter man’s story. It even ended in the best way - with another piece of food for her.

“Thanks, Körbl!” She chirped, immune to any mocking present in the gesture. The last remains of food were scraped out, followed by the spoon - which was neat as it was wood, and instead of crunching beneath her teeth it splintered.

Then just as many of the guards and other inmates’ attention was commanded, so was Kailani’s, even as she absently picked up one of the trays and tried to get the edge of it through the muzzle - a futile task, considering a spoon was about the largest thing able to get through. The sight of the exuberant and colorful woman was a surprise, but not an unwelcome one. Though, the noise the Demoness made at the entrance was distracting. It was almost familiar - a low rumbling trill nearly that reminded her of her own species. Kailani’s teeth clicked together in a poor imitation of the chittering her true form was so proficient at, this mouth too stiff to be able to accurately recreate it, though she managed a bit of a rumble in her throat.

Yet as soon as Iris got close Kailani’s attention was diverted to waving eagerly, taking the offered lollipop and even leaning into the hand ruffling up her dark hair with what could almost pass as a purr.

“My favorite Iris!” The small girl returned at the greeting, tearing into the offered candy. Crunch went the bright rainbow bit beneath her teeth, the stick following shortly after. She couldn’t help but eye the little cube candies the demoness offered Iris, but didn’t dare just take. Even if they were spicy and delicious.

She was still hungry.

Always hungry.

The others were talking amongst one another, some responding to Abby, others having their own private conversations. Most everyone was finished with their food however, and she had pilfered almost all of their utensils. More surprisingly, she wasn’t stopped from doing so, or taking the offered food. Most of the time the Borehole liked keeping her on portions - maybe they were feeling generous today, or … or were trying to foster relations between inmates? Honestly, that would explain Iris’ presence - she seemed to know everyone.

Well, if that was the case…

Without a word to the others at the table Kailani stood and moved on to the next, sparing a moment as she passed to grin widely at the guard who had threatened corpseman. Her nose brought her to the next gathering, the smell not unpleasant but different. She slid into the seat next to a metal man, a brief thought crossing her mind on how he would crunch deliciously.

“Heya! Are you-” He stood up abruptly, a snarl twisting his features.

“Can a man not get peace to eat here?!” He grabbed the tray and stomped off clear to the other side of the room, leaving Kailani to look after him puzzled.

She was going to eat his fingers, given the chance.

Rather than chase, Kailani let it roll off her back for the most part and instead scooted further on the bench towards the woman he was sitting next to, only for her nose to twitch as she realized this was who the strange scent was coming from. She sniffed the air once more, tilting her head as the equally strange noise registered from the woman next to her. It reminded her of her collar, on the occasions where it lit up on her attempts to change form. Burning flesh and twitching limbs. Yet the smell of burning wasn’t present, just that faint noise. If anything, the air was … pleasant. Clean, like the outside.

The alien inhaled deeply, her exhale slow and almost peaceful. Was it really from the lady next to her, almost as small as she herself was? It had to be, right? Testing this theory Kai leaned over, almost mimicking her position to headbutt the corpseman's shoulder, only to jolt as a familiar crackling sensation flashed across her face. She jumped in her seat, leg hitting the bottom of the table with an audible whack.

"Oww." She rubbed her nose through the muzzle, giving a little side look. Despite it, after a moment she drew her legs up to her chest to throw her arms over in a relaxed position on the bench, grinning wide and cheerful to the quiet woman but making sure not to touch again. Even she knew a warning when it happened!

“Hey! You smell delicious.”

Her guard was going to have a heart attack before the day was over.

Randolph grew impatient. Körbl was instigating fights and yet no one took the bait. Randolph excused himself obviously, termination is not something he is planning on in the near future, but the others seemed only to exasperate the situation with words and not actions. This lack of conflict makes it unlikely there will be a corpse in Randolph’s near future. A suggestion he did not like as he was tired of the meaningless food he was given, corpses whose greatest secrets were trite gossip and pointless drama. The last time he had a metahuman for dinner was…. About two years and seventy something days ago, a luxury he rarely gets unfortunately. Their taste tends to be… intoxicating.

‘Calm yourself…’ the thought entered Randolph’s mind. ‘Now is not the time to throw away the goodwill built up with the fools running the place. Patience has worked before and it will work again. Look for opportunity…’

“Ya na kadishtu, Ya hai kadishtu…”
Randolph muttered under his breath, words engraved in his mind to remind him of his goal.

Maybe we can measure how strong we are; if we tell each other what our superpowers are? I'm curious what you guys can do?

A reasonable query. A curiosity to pass the time perhaps, maybe trying to guess weaknesses, or… looking for a group? Must be planning something…. something important enough to require assistance from…villains. An untrustworthy lot. Perhaps she seeks a few people to throw under the bus in case something goes awry, or maybe she is desperate. There is clearly an ulterior motive to this, but something tells Randolph this is the opportunity.

“I would have thought you’d heard rumors at the least… but I eat the dead and experience the memories held in flesh repast.” Randolph said, a little annoyed at the idea of someone not knowing what he does. “Not so much a superpower though, just a thing my kind does but I suppose I should not fault you for not researching into something you probably did not know existed prior to meeting me. And don’t worry, my food is not much better than yours, they make sure I don’t learn anything…useful. My talents are wasted here as the knowledge held within this flesh are only relevant on the outside.” Randolph ended, clearly expressing his displeasure of being held within these walls. He was about to turn his thoughts to something else before he recalled something else that was relevant. “Oh, I suppose I should mention I am quite a bit stronger than just about any Human and I am adept at making tunnels. If only I could get the opportunity to tunnel my way out of here…possibly bring others along.” Randolph said quietly, taking a bet on what Abigail was aiming for.

“Glad to hear it, I look forward to exchanging information and hope it will be illuminating. Conversation is a perfectly valid substitute to consumption when the corpse dares to be alive.” Randolph said jokingly, punctuating it with a laugh.

“Heeey! What's crackin' ma homies? Randy, long time no see!...”

“Hey... It’s so GOOD they let you out.” Randolph attempted to hide the displeasure in his voice. Randolph was careful, reserved, passive. But Iris was forceful, unpredictable, lacking inhibition. The difference in personalities were vast, and though Randolph had no ill will towards her, he felt…uncomfortable around her. Still, she has not done anything to Randolph, so he will give her the same respect as everyone else. Even if it is difficult.

“Well, it’s nice that you are here… I suppose” Randolph dropped to a whisper at the end. “So you going to catch us up on what you’ve been doing or…?
