The only thing I would want future gens to take from this game are a more realized open world (none of this gated zone shit) and the ability to just always be able to pay someone to teach my Pokemon moves and having the ability for them to swap moves on the fly no hassle.

But as this is GameFreak I assume the next gen Pokemon game will carry over nothing and disappoint everyone all over again

Damn, I'm a fuckin prophet

Honestly, I'm surprised they went for Spain. Of course it is an interesting choice for a Pokemon region and I can see why they picked it, but in the last three generations we've had two European-themed regions, Kalos and Galar respectively. Kind of feels like they're only interested in the US, Europe and Asia (or more specifically Japan, but that one is obvious choice since Pokemon is Japanese). Why not put a region in South America or something. Hell, if the region is in South America you can do a whole thing with Mew since it was originally found in Guyana according to the Kanto games.

Theyd have to either learn about another culture, they already know the US and Japan pretty well and can largely extrapolate for others. It could be pretty cool and I'd be interested in seeing more games set in fictional or real world South American countries, but America/Japan is a pretty easy target and Generic Euro country isnt much harder. Give them funny hats, an accent, and a misplaced sense of superiority and you're done.

I think there's also sort of an issue of recognizability.

Everyone knows America. Everyone knows Japan. Everyone knows England. Spain and France and maybe like Ireland/Scotland/Place Where Folks Wear Kilts and Drink Beer, they're fairly well known. Brazil isn't widely known enough for anything kid friendly enough for a Pokemon game. Maybe I'm just ignorant but I don't think a lot of South American countries are.

Maybe Pokemon Cuba. That could actually be really cool. Actually I'd be down for a game set in Brazil too. They'd likely lean heavily on Carnival, but if they put some effort into it it could be pretty cool and maybe it could teach folks something about Brazil.

@BrokenPromise Thanks, you don't have to if you don't want to tho.

Don't tell me what to do, nerd.

Anyway, haven't played much Black Desert. Between my RPing habits, Lost Ark, and my other hobbies, I'm probably not going to take this one too seriously for a while. The interfaces take a bit of getting use to, but it's nothing that people who play a lot of MMOs won't adapt to quickly. I can't really say much about combat, but the few hours I spent playing the game were fun. But the character creator is still the best part.

So just for fun, I decided to see if I could take an anime face claim and make it into a character.

I liked my first attempt. The eyes are almost spot on, but I do need to play around with the hair color to get it looking a little closer to the reference image. Unsure if I'm going to go for the cat ears or not. It is possible to get cat ears, but this is a miqo'te from FF14, and their ears are angled strangely. If you're curious about cat/fox girls, someone made an Ahri inspired character from League of legends.

This is actually the same class. You have quite a bit of control over what the hair does, but there are some limitations when you try to do crazy stuff with it. It's kind of hard to explain.

But maybe you're not into cat girls or anime, in which case I'm both appalled at your lack of taste, but glad I've met someone who doesn't have the same mental disease I do. Someone else did one based on Keanu Reeves, and by that I mean John Wick.

Kinda meh, I know.

...so Elden Ring is probably the easiest time I've had with a Souls-like and I've been playing them since Demon Souls (or if you count it, King's Field).

But it do be fun.

On another note I wish I could just sit down and immerse myself in a good rpg, that'd be nice if I had time to do but it feels like I never have enough time. I guess that's why I play roguelites. :p

Im doing what I always do in Dark Souls games. Running around at very low level in dangerous areas trying to bang my head into the wall until the wall breaks. The fast travel options definitely make it a lot safer to do this.

No getting stranded in Blighttown this time around.

I do not think Elden Ring is very good in the same ways I do not enjoy BOTW. I find myself just searching for the experience I like only to find that that experience is now 5 minute straight path caves with some of the lamest bosses they've ever had and then it's back to the least interesting world this side of a Far Cry game and it just makes me wish that it wasn't open world because Limgrave is fucking lame

I did write a rant about Warframe sucking at "making its game hard". And how my interest in Elden Ring has grown substantially. But this is shorter.

Also, I was going to laugh at the Horizon Zero Devs (and a guy who helped create the worst Battlefield) whining about the latter's success. And how its now frequently topping the steam charts and beating Lost Ark in its 24 hour player count. (A game that just had to ban/remove millions of accounts for being bots.) So it's only made me root for its success harder.

But instead, I provide you with deals.

itch.io/b/1316/bundle-for-ukraine

It's literally hundreds of terrible games (and other random shit) for ten bucks. But Baba is You is one of them. So there's that. Still good for nine days.

Also, because New World was mentioned at some point. I found a video that shows how much of a shitshow that became.

And Hbomberguy's new video is entertaining if you have three hours to kill.

I'm not looking to start shit or anything but I just want to say that the discourse on Elden Ring is insufferable from all sides but especially from the Fromsoft fans who have an us vs them mentality and the Sony people who are mad that their good ass game only got an 89 and not a 92 or whatever. Both those games are good! Both offer wildly different experiences! One is not better than the other because of lack of icons or whatever! Elden Ring does have some bad and unfun design and UI choices and that will always be the thing for those games because that's their choice and you either are on board or you aren't! Horizon isn't a game that will make someone a fan of that kind of open world even if it is the best of its contemporaries by a wide margin! Neither game is perfect, both are good!

Video games can still be good but the bird app kills nuanced discussions!

Elden Ring was never going to fail but also it isn't the one that will make non fans into fans because I know like four people who followed the main path and got hard checked by Margit who decided to fuck off because it wasn't fun and they didn't get it.

And thats fine. The games aren't as niche as they like to think but they are still for a specific audience but that specific audience will absolutely make sure you know how much they love those games.
