@Exit Hijacking El Dogo's question to ask: when the RP starts, who will be controlling these NPCs? I'd guess us, but I don't want to assume one way or the other and get too carried away with my devious plotting.

As an addendum to that, since this is the first RP I've been in with a mandatory NPC which makes me a little squirrely about the topic, can we have like minor "faceless" NPCs in our posts. For example, ya boi goes to work and I have his boss yell at him...?

Apologies if this is already actually explained somewhere and I missed it.

@Dog To the character, important enough to leave an impression. Many of the NPCs already created are family members or someone who works closely with them. They tend to have some influence on their daily lives and so are worth mentioning. As for power, I'd leave it up to your discretion and if I feel like it's too reaching, I'll let you know.

@KillamriX88 So the reason I added the NPC section was as a way to help players build a world around their character. I think it helps to cement your ideas in the world. It also tends to help open up more avenues for me to move the world around everyone. One of the things I will be doing, after I've gone through and selected which sheets we're keeping, is going around and asking if you'd like to pilot the NPCs or if you'd like me too.

As for other NPCs in the world, they can remian nameless/faceless. Not every corner of the world needs to be filled in, and judging by those who've submitted characters, it doesn't look like it will be a problem when it's not.

Edit: I want to add that I don't expect everyone to be playing two characters. The NPC is our tool to use as needed.

How loose is Republic control in the Lower Ring? If its extremely weak then I have ideas.

Lmao, it's an unusual day when I'm not playing 2-3 characters at a single time. Mind you, in this case, I'd definitely be sparing with a character like his mentor since, you know, doing otherwise kinda defeats the purpose of my "main" being a novice bender...

But good to know. Sounds like business as usual generally speaking. Now I wait impatiently for judgement day.

It's weak in so far as control is established mostly, only, through the RSF. There is fear of Republic punishment for falling out of line and that is what is ultimately keeping people complacent. Of course given how corrupt the Lower Ring is and how undermanned the RSF are, they typically won't interfere violently or in force with something that isn't Bender related. It becomes very problematic, however, for any criminal or civil unrest elements when the full force of the RSF is brought to bear. They can quickly subdue any threats within the walls and if things get out of hand for any reason, this is typically what happens. Beyond that, the bare minimum is used to keep the population happy. It wouldn't take too much for a man to rally others to his cause. It may not last long though.

There's also enough corruption thread through each of the rings that if someone higher up wants things moved or shut down in the Lower Ring, it can happen.

You're also playing two characters already, in a way. Still really like how you set that up.

Can I assume Republic agents are watching/attempting to catch Merkopa?

It would depend on the waves he's making, and considering he's showing up in publications or being talked about as a terrorist by those in the other rings, I think it's a safe assumption.

@Exit I was thinking about it, can I add to my character sheet? I want to add two small things in my extra area. Growing up with participating in mixed martial arts and knowing how to use a synergy gun (specifically a pistol), if that is optional.

The martial arts is fine. Again, this will stay fairly basic for benders and is really just a difference of being punched versus blocking a punch with the opportunity to counter (and your ability to make it look pretty).

As for the gun, given that Katakuri not only resides in the Upper Ring but is also probably seen in circles of power, I'll allow him knowledge on how to operate a synergy pistol. He of course will still need to get his hands on one if he wants to carry it around in our story. This cannot be done without my approval.

Thank you. I'll add these minor things to my character sheet. I was not thinking about him starting off or really carrying one. I was thinking more of having that knowledge for potential situations versus actually keeping one on his hip 24/7. I feel like carrying around a weapon would be a red flag especially in the upper ring.

Edit: I added those two updates to the character sheet.

With the mixed martial arts, I was thinking about the life of the character before finding out that he was a bender.

3 fire, 1 water, 1 air, 1 earth, 2 non, it appears that fire is the popular element for this rp

I almost went with fire as well, for a wanderer that spends a lot of time in the hot desert, but air felt more fitting for a free spirit

I like the element your paired with your character. I agree it fits really well.

And I was actually expecting at least one more for air so I'm surprised (again).

I think our Water, Earth and Airbenders explained why they went with their element but maybe the others can chime in and humor my curiosity? Why Fire and why did some of us choose to go without an element?

I thought I was the only one going for fire so… fuck me I guess? xD I picked fire for Chu Hua mostly because of her personality. She tends to be impulsive, she’s a bit of an adrenaline junkie, and can be hotheaded some of the time. I feel like thats at odds with the other fire potentials who seem to both be pretty cold and analytical. The two sides of fire! I was thinking Earth but felt like fire fit her far more.

While I was building Katakuri as a character, I was extremely split between water bending and fire bending. When I think of a fire bender, I think of someone who has some type of anger (cold or hot) along with being dedicated to those who they care about. I feel like they are extremely dedicated to family and goals and they would do anything to reach goals and protect their families (at any cost).

When I think of Katakuri, I envision someone who tends to keep a "face" in public. Someone who appears collected, organized, and ambitious for what they want in life. While he is very goal orientated, I feel like family, friends, and things he cares about are higher than his true goals (depending on the situation).
Socially, I feel like he is going to be a character that tries his best to look like he is in total control in and out of public (no matter the situation). This might allow for times of frustration when he cannot claim an answer to an issue. I feel like he is going to be a character with cold and stern anger. Maybe a character that is more on the emotionless side of the spectrum when in basic conversations and socialization, though it is a shield to protect his feelings. Though, he will learn over time to loosen up in front of people and allow himself to show how relaxed, playful, and how much he cares for other living things.

That's the reason I decided to go with Fire bending as his element.

@OddApproved That makes sense! They’re practically opposites on the fire spectrum, haha.

It was a difficult choice at first till I started thinking of what I truly wanted Katakuri as a character to be.

@OddApproved That is an incredibly deep way to look at it. And honestly, I really like how you and @canaryrose took to building your characters from two side of the same idea. There was a lot of thought put into the relation of the element to the character and it shows in both sheets.
