I totally agree. There is plenty in place in the Lower Ring to push this and plenty the City has to fight back to create a nice environment of political unrest that would reach all the way to the palace in the Central Ring. I would definitely be interested in seeing this character brought to life.

Who are you?

The best stickball player in Ba Sing Se. Well, that might be a bit ambitious. Let’s go with… best on my team. That works. I’m the best attacker that the Middle Ring Badgermoles have had in ages, and I’m famous for it. I love my job. I love the game, my fans, and yes, the money. Who doesn’t love money? I’ve been able to provide for me, my family, and my fiancée with everything I bring in. And they love me. I am loved. I am the perfect daughter, the perfect sister, the perfect soon-to-be wife. I wouldn’t trade my life right now for the world. I have everything I could ever want.

I’m a family woman. I have two younger sisters, a mother, and a father. But our family is growing. Next fall, I’m marrying my current fiancée and the love of my life- An Tamura. She’s perfect. Everything I’m not. Wicked smart, mostly, but also beautiful and hilarious. She gets tired of following me through my busy life, I can tell, but she’s never complained. She’s always supported me, even though she has a job of her own- working for the government in the Department of Energy.

I love An. I love family. I love my house, the little garden that runs along the front porch. My job, my teammates. I have a life that many could never dream of. But what if there was something that could ruin my perfect life? Something that would doom me and my family forever? There is. I’m a… No. No, I won’t say it. But I have a secret, and if it gets out, my life will be ruined. Everything I have worked for my entire life will fall into flames.

Is it wrong of me that I still feel compelled to do what I never should?

What is your opinion on Benders?

Evil. Monsters. The bender will never stop destroying until they are destroyed. The world will never be at peace until they are finally gone. That’s what I’ve been taught, at least. Bender is a dangerous word to say in this city, even around those you love. It’s terrifying. It even scares me a bit, too.

When I was a child, going through a box of old things in the far back of the gym, I found a tape. It was unlabelled and ancient. Later that night, I found an old video player and popped it in in my room, alone. Imagine my surprise when it was… bending. A pro-bending match, from the old Republic City. I should’ve been revolted, should’ve thrown it away immediately. But I was 12. I was fascinated. I watched and rewatched that old tape in secret for years, prying up a piece of my floorboard to make sure no one ever saw it. I had never seen someone bend before. It was… beautiful.

I’ve always been an adrenaline junkie- it’s something I can’t deny. This was just like stickball but better. Watching those tapes, doing something forbidden, gave me such a rush. I didn’t end up finding another tape until I was 15, when I finally summoned the courage to venture into the Underground with some of my rowdier classmates to find one. It cost a lot of money, but I found it. And now? Well. I still collect the tapes, still watch them. Pro-bending is fascinating. It’s an expression of violence, sure, but it’s done as a form of sport. And just watching them can’t be that awful of a crime, right?

But the other secrets I hold… those are the kinds of things that could get me killed. I’m… it’s hard to say. Terrifying. But I think I’m a firebender. Gods. Isn’t that the kind of thing that would ruin my life? Of course I would be. Of course. But I can’t be a monster if I don’t use it, right? And I don’t. But sometimes…

Sometimes it gets hard to hold back the heat.

Here she is! Still partially a WIP (as in, I might change some things), but this is all pretty permanent. I'd love some feedback, even if it's just on characterization and stuff. Fingers crossed! Also, imagine stickball as a universe equivalent to lacrosse.

@canaryrose I absolutely love her and the way she thinks. She fits perfectly in the world and even better, from what you've provided, I can really get a sense for how she feels about living in it. Her fears as a Bender but also the need to burn brightly while also trying to avoid getting killed. It translates perfectly. Wonderful addition of the sport as well.

I know you may still edit a few items but the sheet so far needs no changes. Very very nice job!

Suddenly, from no fire to lots of fire. I had to think for a minute, but I find the idea of an upper class character who isn't a "corpo" type quite intriguing. Instead, a sports celebrity. I really like the whole guilty pleasure angle with how they view bending as well. Not a rebel or sympathizer, but not a hardcore conformist either, and yet still (seemingly?) firmly in one camp over the other. She's got a nice amount of nuance from what I can see so far. Definitely a pleasant surprise I'd say.

Also it was getting a bit lopsided in the gender department... XD

@KillamriX88 Thank you so much! I'm really happy about how much everyone likes her. I didn't mention it in the CS, only lightly implied it, because it was dialogue-based and it didn't quite seem organic for her to monologue about her origins, but Chu Hua actually grew up on the lower end of the middle class in the Middle Ring. She bought her and her family into the Upper Ring with the money and status earned from sports. I thought it added a lot to her motivation and also the amount she has to lose.

Who are you?: An ideologue, a hardline revolutionary, and an unfaltering communist, Ulc Merkopa is what the Republic would label as a “highly-dangerous person” to the status quo of things. As the founder of the Workers' Union Party of Ba Sing Se (WUPB), Merkopa is best known for his work to popularize Mrovian Socioeconomics amongst the working class in the Lower Ring. Trouble has always stalked both Merkopa and his party, with the Republic brutally cracking down any form of dissent that questions the state or the status quo - especially if it shows an alternate socio-political-economic system.

Surviving on a combination of donations and hard work as a self-taught mechanical & chemical engineer, Merkopa is forced to push his mental and physical limits to the test as he juggles his duties between radicalizing the working-class, doing regular production work in the Lower Ring, and caring for his daughter. Given the expenses, Merkopa has little currency to himself by the end of it all. Thus, Merkopa spends little on himself - merely the bare essentials to keep his needs met.

Your boss fears you! Not only him but the boss of that boss - his director. The factory managers, the executive, and every single corporate man and woman fear you! They’re scared of your ability to think beyond their corpo-propaganda. They’re afraid of your power to fight for your rights. They don’t want you to think! Why is the factory so dirty and dangerous? Why do we have no healthcare? Why do we have to work so long for little pay? Why do we have to struggle so much for so little?

I ask. Who is the backbone of society? You - the workers! Who creates the steel? Who creates the clothing? Who creates the food? Who creates the shoes? It’s all the workers. We make everything, but who gets to decide how and what our product goes? Your boss! Not you. You don’t have a say in your labor. You don’t get to choose anything. If the “Republic” is what it says it is then why can’t we pick our affairs in our own factories? We run the damn thing!

Why can’t we use our own steel to make good housing for the people? Why can’t we use the clothing to cloth the unclothed? Why can’t we send the food to the hungry? Because of the greed of the corporates. They don’t care about your livelihoods. They only care about the profits they make! We work hours, from dawn to dusk, while they steal from our labor. Those corpo-pigs are exploiting us!

We, the working class, should be able to not only decide what we do with our production but also what to do in government! A government for the working-class - not for the greedy corpos and corrupt politicians.

What is your Opinion on Benders?
What do I think of the Benders? Well - that’s quite a complex question. Like anyone else on this planet, they’re people. And like people, it would be wrong to merely segregate or do great harm to people based on their differences. It is no different from profiling far-Southers, far-Northers, Easterners, etc, and then committing action based upon their racial stereotypes. I don’t think Easterners would enjoy being gunned down because of a racial theory or belief that states they’re extremely aggressive violent people who can’t contain their hot-heads or internal viciousness.

Don’t you think the Republic will Come after You?
Haha. I have never been on their good list - always on their naughty list. I do not think the Republic values my work. More so after I organize worker riots, sit-ins, and violent clashes with the RSF. The Republic already has their opinion on me - notwithstanding my current views on Benders. You should see all the publications on me. The Middle Ring is likely abuzz with the news of the so-called “terrorist” of the Lower Ring. The “demon” that will kill you. Its a lovely read, if you have that kind of sense of humor.

Inner Thoughts of a Child

“Hi, my name is Odila! I live in the uhm, Lower Ring. Everything here is very ugly and nasty. And I don’t like the smell here. If I don’t wear my gas mask outside then it hurts my throat and eyes a lot. Dad always tries to make the best out of everything! He lets me sleep in a comfortable bed every time. But I feel bad because dad seems to always sleep on the floor. He’s always in pain because of it. I don’t like to see him in pain….

I get a lot of stuff from dad. A lot of food, clothing, and other things. Snacks and food are always good! Noodles, fire-flakes, and other goodies. My clothes are also comfortable - very soft and it fits. But I don’t see dad buying anything for himself. He always wears that same-old shirt and pants and never eats anything new. Hhm - I miss mom. I don’t know what happened to my mommy. Dad tells me that mom is fine but it has been a while since I last saw her.

And oh, I know a lot of math! I know my multiplications, division, expressions, order of operations, and a buttload of stuff - dad taught me. My reading and writing are ok. Dad says that I should practice more with my books. But I don’t really want to.”

I personally appreciate the idea of an older character to shake things up! My unsolicited and next to weightless opinion is that so far his "who are you" section tells us a good bit about what he does and how he thinks, but yet not a terrible amount about who he actually is. Maybe wait for the actual GM to chime in before I accidentally steer you wrong, though... Just my initial impression.

Basically what I'm saying is that it reads like one of his soap box speeches that a person could go up to, but that person wouldn't really know much about the guy beyond that, and I'd imagine for CS purposes we might want to dig at least a little deeper.

Also, Exit, I realize in my boredom I've been getting very chatty. Feel free to tell me to shut up... >_>;

@Dog I like the fact that this is the very real result of what the Republic is creating and why I appreciate characters like this. I believe it is still a WIP? So far it's looking great and I can't wait to see it when its done. Other comments aside, if it were the final submission I would agree with sentiments on the "Who Are You?", but you've got three days worth of time to make @KillamriX88 stop talking.

That's my fault for not being very clear with some of my instructions, especially the NPC part and how much I wanted. I thought I knew exactly what I needed to start the game, especially after having run it before, but every time I do and people start coming through, new eyes tell me what I'm not seeing. Thanks for expanding on his lore!
