Veil & Casper & Sunshine

Location: Various
Skills: Mediumship

Bar Sinister...

One of the Sinisters sighed, slumping his shoulders slightly. It was unclear whether the Sinister was actually sad about Renegade being sick, his inability to cure her properly, or that Jack just wouldn't let the question go. "She has a deadly, mutated variant strain of M-Pox," Sinister finally said. "I've named it X-Pox, as in Essex Pox after myself of course for its discovery."

Another Sinister then jumped in. "It's incurable. And if we can't fix it, then there's no one else out there in the world who can," he commented. "Not even one of those nasty Hank McCoy variants could do it. Face it, sonny, your mother's body is doomed. Better to prune it away before it can mutate even further and find a way to spread..."

Renegade's (Rebuilt) Apartment...

Renegade shrugged off Moneta's apologetic look - she really didn't mind. She loved using her powers for little things like that anyways - it made her feel alive. Sure, using her powers for the betterment of mutantkind was also fulfilling, but in a different way. It was nice to just do things for fun, not because lives depended on it. She led them inside to her apartment and opened it up. Flower Child was still off elsewhere on the island and wouldn't be home for a bit, so Moneta, Mongoose, and Renegade had the place to themselves.

Most of Renegade's things had survived, so it looked pretty similar to how Moneta had seen it last - only the drawings Flower Child had made were gone. They'd been lost in the attack on the island. But already there was one new drawing up, depicting what looked like the Heroes of Genosha saving the kids of the Akademos from strange monsters the size of skyscrapers.

"Make yourself at home," Renegade said with a shrug.

Outside the Hospital...

People didn't usually think of Casper as the observant type - he had a reputation for being easily distractible. But that was the paradox that was at his core - in order to speed off topic so easily and so quickly, Casper couldn't help but notice the little things, the tiny moments. They usually sparked a new train of thought in his head, abandoning the big things in favor of the small. And here and now, Casper immediately noticed the way that James tensed up - the way James' entire body screamed we are in danger. Casper shifted his stance immediately, stepping out slightly in front of James, in order to do his best to protect him and make it clear to the world that no one was getting to his husband without a fight.

"I... I think maman can handle Danny," Casper said, trying to project an aura of calm now for James. That more or less resulted in Casper's fingers being twitchy and jittery, and him not being able to settle into a comfortable stance. "And sure, let me just think that back," Casper paused, before thinking as loud as he could the thought that James had asked him to give.

The reply then came (in only Casper's mind) - "Thanks. See you then. And got it, let James know we won't do any other telepathic calls."

"Okay, Veil says okay, and they won't use telepathy to contact you anymore," Casper explained. "So... to the apartment complex then? Maman will hopefully be there, so we can give Danny to her..."

Max's Apartment...

Sunshine paused for a moment, before blurting out. "Where the hell are we going to find a bunch of candles people aren't needing?" she asked. The only candles she could think of at the moment on the island were in heavy use, helping to provide lighting for those whose shelters did not currently have power, or acting as portions of memorials to the fallen 198 mutants lost in the attack.

Pixie snorted slightly. "I can handle getting us candles, can just pop on over to John Lewis and rummage up some," she said, referencing a home goods chain local in the UK. She didn't mention anything about paying, but perhaps it was best not to ask. Pixie giggled slightly at Harry's curiosity, before blowing a puff of pink dust into his face - and suddenly, Harry would be hallucinating that everyone in the room had turned into a Sailor Moon style magical girl!

"I guess that's everything, then," Marrow commented with a shrug, before eating some more of the marrow stew. "Can't believe you're going to casually raise the dead, but whatever. If it works, you'll be a legend. More than that, actually. You'll be a god."

Outside the House of M...

The skull said nothing. Selene had instructed the skull to deliver the presents to Luna Minor, claim her as her daughter, and ensure that the spell of transformation was completed (which it seemed to have been, given her new status as an energy vampire). Selene had also mentioned not wanting to see Luna Minor just away, explaining some worry that her daughter might turn out to be an uninteresting flop, and that there'd be plenty of time for them to chat at the gala.

Zari, meanwhile, would be feeling just a little bit tired from Andy draining her - like Zari had been doing a light warm-up before a workout - tired but alert.

Outside the Green Lagoon...

"They'll meet you back at the apartment, and James doesn't want any future telepathy," No-Girl chimed into Veil and Spark Plug's minds. Veil thought a response back to Casper, telling him that they understood and would meet him there, and then No-Girl ended the connection. "Is that everything?" Martha asked, sounding a little bit impatient. Even though she was a floating brain in a jar, she still had things she wanted to do and people she needed to go see.

"Yes, thank you," Veil said. Martha then floated off inside the Green Lagoon. Veil shrugged at Callie's question about whether or not Casper had kidnapped a baby. "I'm guessing no, since James is with him? I don't think James would be cool with kidnapping," Veil said. She was pretty confident James would never kidnap someone - Casper she wasn't too sure about. "But we should head back to Max's place then, they'll meet us there and then we can see if Max can pull off a miracle on demand this time."

“Thanks for handling that, babes.” James thanked Casper, offering him a soft smile and a kiss. “Yeah, let’s head home and figure out what’s going on. If she isn’t, we can still hear them out while we wait for her and get Danny settled in.” James suggested as they headed away from the hospital. He could still feel the lingering dread in the way the shaking hadn’t fully gone away but it was far enough that he could ignore it and focus on the looming matter at hand.

“Resurrection, huh?” James muttered to himself. Bringing someone back from the dead certainly didn’t seem like it was outside of the realm of possibility anymore. The more mutants they met, the more it seemed nothing was impossible anymore. His next comment was directed to Casper. “I don’t know how I feel about it. Like, I guess I should be jumping at the chance, right? How many people have died that didn’t deserve it? This last attack, at the hands of the purifiers, even all the infighting between mutants… But how do we decide who gets to come back? Not to mention, what are the consequences? Can a soul be hurt? Can we fuck it up, you know?” James asked, mostly in a rhetorical sense but frankly, Casper actually worked with ghosts. He might have some of the answers.

"Nope that'll be all, thank you for helping us relay the message." Callie said to No-Girl giving her a friendly smile and wave as she headed into the Green Lagoon. She wasn't so sure why James wanted to have no more telepathic contact, what if there was some sort of emergency and they needed him there. She shrugged slightly as she looked at Veil and nodded towards her friend gently patting her on the shoulder as she started to head back the way that they had came from to their apartment.

"So, who are you going ask out for the gala?" Callie asked her Veil looking over at her, for as long as she had known Veil she didn't have much of a dating life, but then again the Underground was a fulltime and dangerous job and being a cell leader was a massive workload and didn't have time for something as simple as dating. She didn't even have much time dating herself either as Callie continued to walk back to their apartment building.

Jack listened to the explanation of what was wrong with his mom, and he did wonder a bit as to why it took so long for him to just spit it out and explain it. It wasn't that difficult, that much was obvious with how he ended up eventually responding. To say the least things were a bit chaotic in general, at least with what was going through his brain on the whole subject. However, he decided to drop it for the time being, and instead go back to the whole idea that Sinister had on how to fix this situation really.

"Aside from the fact that the name that you gave the disease is a bit corny really, still just have to ask her about it really... Though at least seems like that option is going to be able to be there I guess. Not sure how this will go over," he commented with a bit of a shrug. "Um... Think I'm going to go talk to her and see what she says for the whole thing or whatever, since honestly might as well."

Miranda followed along after Ellie as she led the way into the building and over to where her apartment was. She wasn't sure how things were going to really work out. Or really how long she might end up really staying with Ellie, since things were a bit chaotic for her currently. Not to mention currently not too many people really knew that she had ended up adopting a kid. Aside from those at the sort of makeshift orphanage earlier and Ellie, no one actually knew really about anything like that.

She was truthfully putting that off for as long as possible really, it was going to be an interesting thing to say the least. Entering the apartment, she followed along, hoping for the most part that Mongoose wasn't going to cause too much trouble while they were there. "Glad to see that your place still seems to be in one piece and survived everything intact. Kind of nice," she said, giving her friend a smile as she looked around the place really.

Zari was a bit confused as to what even was going on a bit really with Andy. She seemed to be draining things of, well, something, it was a bit difficult for her to fully figure out what was going on. She couldn't help but think that what happened with the crows was actually kind of cool. It still wasn't obvious what it was that Andy had done, but all Zari knew was that the crows seemingly dropped to the ground dead for some strange instance. Personally Zari sort of wanted to poke at the crows a bit to figure out what had happened.

"That was kind of cool not gonna lie," she commented looking at the crows, "What exactly did you do? I'm just wondering a bit." Zari didn't exactly get an answer though, since Andy decided to kiss her. She was more then a bit surprised by what was going on, but she didn't move away or anything like that. However, she did notice that she was starting to feel a little bit tired, but it wasn't anything too concerning. She just found it a bit odd.

That was the million dollar question now wasn't it? The island suffered a massive attack not too far back and many were still without power while many more grieved the loss of loved ones. It was a hard time to be a mutant on Genosha, and Max was lucky enough that his place had been built up since the attack. Before he could even answer however, Pixie piped up with a brilliant solution. He had no idea who John Lewis was, but if she could borrow a bunch of candles from him without any issue then that was all the better. "Perfect, tell him thank you for me when you see him. It'd be really generous of him to lend us so many candles on such short notice."

It appeared to Harry as if everything was moving along smoothly. Callie and Veil had gone to fetch Casper and James, Pixie was capable of obtaining candles for Max, Ben's body lay on Max's bed (though they'd have to find an inconspicuous way of moving it to the tree), and they had a location. Really all Harry had to do was bring out the boys when it came time to set up all the candles to help expedite the process and then the chosen three could get on with the ritual.

There was a sense of nervousness about him however. Worry about all the unknowns and what could go wrong in ways they couldn't even think of. He wondered if Max had considered the side effects and downfalls of if this went wrong. As he thought, Pixie blew some dust at him and he blinked his eyes. His pupils went wide as he watched everyone transform into magical girls before him. "Pixie please tell me this was you and that everyone didn't suddenly become imbued with the magical power of friendship and space rocks."

Max wasn't sure how he'd felt about the comment Marrow had given. It was one thing to become a legend, a whole other to be revered as a god. The idea didn't sit right with him. "Well let's hope it's not the latter because I'm not quite sure I'm ready for godhood." He said with an air of concern in his voice before Harry suddenly started acting weird. "You ok man?" Max asked, taking a step towards him and seeing how wide his eyes were. He never really asked Pixie about her powers, more focused on her magic than her fey heritage, but the more she spoke on it the curiouser he became.

Andy felt great. She was full of energy. She hadn't expected that. She stepped back again from Zari. She let out a soft sigh. That kiss had been nice. But she had to explain what was going on. As best she could.

"It felt like I was pulling energy from you. So then I had to do something else and I directed it at the crows. That's how they died. But then I just...I should have asked. I didn't ask I just kissed you. I'm sorry for that. That wasn't why I apologized at first. It was because I was pulling energy from you. You look okay though. Even though it killed the crows."

She looked to the skull again. "Is that what she wanted from me? To kill?" She had killed before, but it had been a while. Andy certainly wasn't going to kill Zari.

Veil & Casper & Sunshine

Location: Various
Skills: Mediumship

Bar Sinister...

"Mm, yes yes, go talk to your mother," Sinister said dismissively. "But breathe a word of this little project to anyone else and it'll be your head, lad."

"And we'll just bring back a son who can listen to us better," another Sinister added with a sneer.

"Anyways, off you pop, Jackie," the last Sinister said, before snapping his fingers. Sinister had a LARGE assortment of powers, most of them from the result of his experiments on himself and augmentations he had received from Apocalypse. One of them happened to be the ability to teleport.

And so, Jack was teleported right into his mother's living room, moments after Casper and James had walked in.

En Route to Renegade's...

Casper didn't usually think about the big questions - some might have claimed that his gift of speaking to the dead was wasted on him. He didn't spend much time pondering the hows and whys of existence, how the mortal soul operated, and what implications the existence of ghosts had on the afterlife. Until he had seen Selene eat ghosts during the massacre, he hadn't even been certain as to whether or not a ghost could be harmed. "I... I don't know," Casper admitted. "It's not fair to let some people come back and leave others dead - like what if there's the most deserving person in the world who died and we just don't know about it? Or what if we start deciding that because someone broke a law, they can't come back - but what if the law was rubbish and stupid in the first place? Can we even really judge who is good or bad? Does it matter? Do bad people get to come back too?"

"But I think they can be hurt - like, Selene ate people's ghosts," Casper said. "And then Ben was, like, dazed for a while after that entire thing. I dunno if they could bleed or anything, they certainly can't eat like waffles or whatever, they can experience heartbreak - I think Ben finally got over Max and Jackie... So I think we could definitely fuck it up. Like really bad. I just don't know what fucking it up would look like."

They made it to the door to Renegade's apartment and Casper knocked - the same knocking pattern that little Anna did in Frozen. "Mamaaaaaaan? C'est moi, ton fils préfèré!"

Renegade's (Rebuilt) Apartment...

"Mostly, yeah - Flower Child's really sad about her artwork, but... She'll bounce back. Kids are resilient," Renegade said, as Purple Mongoose started climbing up the wall and onto the ceiling, running around in circles. She was babbling some sort of nonsense about being a fairy princess and needing to find her lady knight to protect her - clearly bored of the adults and wanting to do something more make-believe for a moment.

There was a knock at the door, followed by the whiny voice of Ellie's middle son, Casper. Renegade opened up the door and her jaw just about hit the floor, seeing a baby boy in James' arms. "Is... Is that a bébé?!" Renegade exclaimed, looking like she was either about to faint, scream, or cheer. The emotions on her face were changing by the second.

"Maman, meet Danny - your grandson, not the phantom kid from Nick," Casper said.

And then to add to the drama, Jack suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the living room.

"You.... What???"

En route to Max's...

Veil blinked for a moment, a slight blush coloring her cheeks. She hadn't even thought about asking someone to the Hellfire Gala. But the instant that Spark Plug brought it up, the dark haired speedster came into her mind - Aurora. Veil dismissed the thought as soon as it came though. She didn't really know Aurora. And she had never really put much stock into a dating life. She had always been too busy, first with the Underground, and now on Genosha's Quiet Council.

"I honestly hadn't really thought of it - you know my dating life's been pretty dry since... well, since I started with the Underground," Veil admitted to Spark Plug. "I imagine my brother is going with Legion. They're weird together, but it makes sense," she said with a shrug. She had been rather irritated with the weird psychic stuff that Echo and Legion had been up to earlier, but time and distance had caused the irritation to fade. If her brother was happy, then that was all that mattered. "What about yourself?" Veil asked, as they reached Max's apartment and Veil knocked on the door.

Max's Apartment...

Pixie rolled her eyes slightly. "John Lewis is a department store, silly," she chastised him. "But I s'pose you Americans don't have them, then. Which is a pity - they're really lovely." However, she didn't spend too much time teasing Max. She was instead mildly amused by Echo's reaction to her pixie dust. Not many people realized that Pixie actually had a bit of a mutant lineage of her own - her sisters in fact were infamous for their illusion powers, as was her horrible father. The illusions would clear from Echo's eyes and Pixie stuck out her tongue at him.

"Aww, you should've left him like that," Sunshine said with a slight pout. It had been rather funny to see Echo's befuddlement, though Sunshine likely would've pushed things further. It was a pretty minor reaction from him and she knew that he definitely had way more range than that. Echo could've at least screamed or something.

"Next time, make him think his body is rotting away to nothing," Marrow suggested, as there was a knock at the door. Marrow opened up the door, revealing Veil and Spark Plug outside.

"Casper and James are on their way. They just... have to drop off their baby."

"Wait, someone let that idiot have a baby?!?!" Sunshine exclaimed, before cackling like mad. "Oh gods this is amazing. This is the best day of my life. Casper raising a baby. That's fucking mad. James is fine, but Casper???"

Outside the House of M...

"THE MOON GODDESS WANTS A CHAMPION." The skull then stopped talking again, letting the words hang in the air. The concept of gods having champions was not really much of a thing when it came to Asgard - Asgardians would have demigod children, but they didn't usually have mortals to do their bidding. That was more of a Greek or Roman concept - and Selene did love to LARP as a Greco-Roman goddess.

Callie thought for a moment as she walked alongside Veil, she gave a slight shrug. "Honestly, same thing as well honestly aside from you guys I don't know anyone here to ask honestly. But if you know someone you should ask them out." Callie answered Veil as they made their way back to their apartment building, letting Veil knock on the door as she leaned slightly up against the side of the door. As soon as the door opened Callie came into the room and looked at the others as Veil dropped the bomb about James' and Casper's baby.

Callie looked at Sunshine as she started to laugh at the idea of Casper having a baby, which was also a little bit entertaining but it was really an actual thing. "Yep the two of them adopted a kid, not sure how that will actually turn out for the two of them though, that will be interesting though." Callie said giving a slight shrug as she looked at the others. "Did you guys figured out any other details for the ritual?" Callie asked them.

James was hoping the answers Casper offered would be reassuring but they made him more worried if anything. He doubted anyone would have any reasonable answer to the moral delimenia of resurrection but he’d hoped that because they were already dead, the souls of the people they were dragging back into a corpse would get off scotch free if anything went wrong. But when could it ever be consequence free for any of them, dead or alive. James sighed at the thought and instead focused on the now, where Casper’s mother was staring at them with hopefully something that wasn’t horror. James offered her a sheepish smile.

“Uh, you’re a grandparent now. Surprise?” James laughed awkwardly. “Hi Miranda, hey Jack. So I’m really sorry to ask this last minute but is there any way you can watch Danny for a little bit? Veil and Spark Plug contacted us while we were leaving the hospital and apparently, they found a way to bring people back and they need us and I don’t know what that entails but we haven’t had a chance to get anything besides what’s in the bag which should tide you over for a while and then we’ll come pick him up and get all the other stuff we need so hopefully it takes an hour tops but I have absolutely no information so it might take more time but I’m just going to put my foot down on more than one person right now if this doesn’t have horrible consequences like everything else we do and then I’ll just stop it permanently but that-” James shut his mouth with an audible click as he realized he was just going to go on and on until someone interjected.

“But, uh, we’d really appreciate it if you could? I’ll make it up to you somehow.”

Zari tilted her head to the side, listening to the explanation in general that Andy seemingly gave to her. Things were a bit strange in general with regards to it. That whole thing was a bit strange to her, but she figured it likely best to not really ask any sort of questions about it. "I mean, I'm fine, just a little tired, but more like I just did a warm up for something then actually tired. So yeah, long story short perfectly fine and nothing to really worry about with it..."

Her attention turned towards the skull as Andy had asked it a question, and it started going off about Selene needing a champion. Zari couldn't help but roll her eyes a bit at the skull. "Wow, total Greek or Roman thing... Asgard doesn't have the need really to have champions or normal people to do their bidding. But honestly people only ask or need champions if they are lazy and don't want to get their hands dirty, which it sounds like she is thinking like that, which is honestly just stupid and laziness."

"Wow, so nice clearly. What you want to keep everything here clearly hidden for whatever reason anyway right? Honestly anyone could get into the basement of your bar and stumble upon it. And once again you act like I'm scared or worried about dying. At this rate it kind of is getting annoying that people seem to think I'm worried about death. Kind of sad at this point, but whatever, I get the point, say nothing about it to anyone or apparently I'm just going to be dead again. I get it."

"Well, it also makes sense that you are used to some form of chaos at your house clearly. Probably have a lot of experience with all sorts of chaos and fun clearly," she said to Ellie with a slight laugh as she watched Mongoose go up the wall and going off about something, it was hard to really see how the mind of a child really worked, her attention turned towards the door as someone knocked at it. She couldn't help but sort of follow along after Ellie as she went to the door, and she was fairly surprised that Casper suddenly had a baby in his arms.

He didn't exactly have time to get too far away from Sinister, and in a blink and you'll miss it moment, he suddenly found himself in his mother's home. "Damn, people can be so annoying at times really. I am capable of walking places, but whatever. Hey mom how's it going," he said to his mother with a slight wave. Before his attention turned towards Casper and James, giving them a slight wave, before noticing the baby that was with them. "Uh... Where did you get the kid, because no offense pretty sure no one in our family should actually have anything to do with kids cause we tend to screw up a lot of things, just saying."

"Uh, hi," Miranda waved at James when he said hello, and she just kept looking at the baby that the pair had. Casper having a kid had to be one of the worst ideas ever. James, that was fine, but from what she really knew about Casper she wasn't sure if he was capable of taking care of himself at times. This whole situation had to be one of the weirdest situations imaginable. Not to mention things just got really crazy and chaotic in the span of only a few minutes at this point.

A department store? Max tried to think of what one called John Lewis would look like. Granted he'd never been one to spend much time at that kind of department store, so his mind had shifted towards the only other ones he'd known. He figured with a name like that it was similar to Nieman Marcus, or another equally boujie store that seemed to sell it all. Clothing, furniture, shoes, bedding, anything your heart desired for your home at a convenient store with an expansive catalog to choose from. He didn't vocalize any of his thoughts on the matter, not wanting to ask where she would get the money for so many expensive candles (though he hoped they weren't scented).

Harry shook the illusion away from his eyes. Blinking several times to ensure that he was seeing reality once more. It was a strange sensation having ones senses tricked in that way. Like walking around in a lucid dream, aware of the false reality being powerless to do anything about it. Forced to go through the motions until it faded on its own accord. He rolled his eyes at Sunshine as he chuckled at her displeasure of him being back to his senses. "Sorry kid. Maybe next time dont make me think I'm withering away. I'd hate to see that."

"Their baby?!" Shock ran through Max like an electric current. He stared at Veil for a moment before pinching his nose. "When I'd spoken to Casper about seeing how James felt about a future and family I didn't think he'd go off and adopt a child immediately." There was a heavy sigh before Max sat back down on the edge of his bed. "It's fine. Between James and him I'm sure the kids gonna have a great home…wait, are we going to be dealing with a crying baby in this apartment now?"

Harry wasn't sure how to take the news. He was happy for the pair, but also extremely concerned for the child. Casper wasn't exact father material, and his father wasn't father of the year as well from what he'd heard. He supposed James was level headed enough to care for a child, but hoped that it wouldn't all fall on him and have him be exhausted from it as a result. Sunshines laughter broke Harry's thoughts as he tried to contain his own. "I'm sure they'll do fine you two. So don't worry about it. Besides, they've got us to help them…right?"

Andy didn't really understand the skull's question. She was glad she hadn't hurt Zari. She felt like she could have if she had kept going. And anyone else might not have fared so well. Andy could help but snort when Zari said that the only people who asked for a champion were lazy or didn't want to get their hands dirty.

Andy didn't know much about Selene. They hadn't really talked or interacted. This probably wasn't the best introduction. She didn't like what it meant. She chewed on her lip, thinking, then said, "I am not ready to make a choice. I'd like to know Selene better, what she has in mind, and what I'd be doing. That sort of thing. Before making a choice."

"So, um, not that I wasn't totally paying complete attention or anything but... I kinda forgot the entire plan, since my brain is freaking out that I now have a kid AND my dead bestie might now become my alive bestie?" Casper blurted, pacing back and forth slightly. Ben was sitting next to his own body with his legs crossed. "So... What is it you need me to do? I mean Ben is here, I can say hi to Ben, but I feel like you want something more? I've never done this before, you know, and I do not test well under pressure... I mean I never test well but.... Help?"

Caspers pacing and anxiety was starting to rub off on Max a little. He had already had some pre-resurrection jitters but now they were beginning to crawl up his skin thanks to Caspers own feelings. He held his hand out, placing it on his shoulder in an attempt to get him to slow down or simply stop pacing. "Calm down. You're making me anxious and we don't need an anxious spellcaster when we are about to attempt to raise the dead." Max took in a deep breath and held it for a count of five before finally letting it out slowly. "I'm not asking you to do anything you haven't already done countless times. I need you to find Ben's soul, and bring him forth to us. Manifest his entire soul. We can't have any missing pieces." He tried to sound cool, calm, and collected. Not wanting to show the dangerous undertone of he'll become evil and potentially murderous if you don't have a complete soul as it might make Casper freak out even more.

"How do I know what an entire soul is?" Casper asked, not calming down much despite Max's best efforts. People never really asked Casper to do anything delicate or thorough before - people never really asked him to do anything really. He just sorta tagged along, manifesting Ben on occasion when fights happened, but no one ever went up to Casper and gave him specific instructions on what to do. And the pressure was getting to him. "Can I practice on a rabbit, maybe? Can we bring back a bunny?"

James bopped his head in time with the rock in his headphones, Halestorm drowning out Casper and Max's anxious energy. Ben's corpse was an absolute mess, the violent lacerations and bullet wounds suggesting he was in deep shit when he died, and the more he sifted through the remains, the less optimistic he felt about this. There wasn't anything physically blocking the process but between his insides being as shook up as alcohol in a shaker and the degree of decay, it was going to be a hard sell and that wasn't even involving the danger he could potentially be putting himself in here.

James peeled off his gloves once he was satisfied and popped one of his ear buds out, "Gunna be honest here guys, this is gunna be rough. Ben's insides are a disaster so before we can even start, I need some references for where everything is supposed to be. There is an argument for scooping everything out and growing it from scratch but one, I've never done that much and two, I'd feel more comfortable with a base line. Max, you think you can hunt some down or do you think you can make some that are accurate? And then…" James hesitated, seeing how Casper was already a little nervous. They could cross the details of the danger later. "A defibulator, just in case."

"Like.... Like book references?" Casper asked, uncertain as to what exactly James needed. "Or... another dead body of a person who has a pocket dimension in their stomach that sprouts tentacles?" Casper then clarified. "Or just any sort of dead body?" Casper asked. He was feeling more confused and anxious the longer this went on. He didn't want to hurt Ben. He really didn't.

"Casper, calm down - it's going to be fine," Ben said. "Just breathe and trust James. He knows what he's doing. And I guess Max does too."

As Casper continued to panic, Max was already hard at work trying to make something that could aid James with what he wanted. He waved his hand, magic flowing out of them and settling nearby James until it solidified into a game of Operation. Casper still rambling about getting more bodies for James. Without knowing it, Max spoke in unison with Ben though his tone was different, more as if he was trying to convince himself and Casper at the same time. "Casper calm down. It's going to be fine. Everything is fine. Now…let me concentrate a bit please" He puffed out air from the corner of his mouth. Blowing away a tuft of hair from his face.

His hands trembled slightly as he held them out, trying once more to create a 3D model for James to use as reference. His tongue poked out the side as he concentrated on what he was making. A model being created before him showcasing all of the organs in the order they lay encased inside a plastic body. Max let out an exasperated sigh as he saw they weren't removable as he'd hoped. "That help?"

“Yeah, it will. Think you can pull off that defibrillator too?” James asked as he pulled out his other earbud and tucked them away in his pocket. Casper was an anxious mess and James couldn’t blame him. It wasn’t like they were resurrecting some random person they yanked out of the grave. This was Ben, a person who had been at Casper's side just as long as he’d been in the grave, and even ignoring the ever growing pile of unknowns about this, Casper’s life was going to change one way or another from this. His best friend would be able to leave, have a chance at a whole new life, in a way Casper probably hadn’t ever considered. James stepped away from the body and gently snagged Casper’s arm, reeling them in until their noses touched.

“Hey, handsome.” James spoke softly as he unabashedly admired the color of Casper’s eyes. “Talk to me, baby. What you thinking right now?”

Casper's eyes were watering. He stilled slightly at James touch, his jittering pacing coming to a halt. He breathed in, before looking back in James' eyes. "What if I kill Ben?" Casper whispered. "What if I destroy his soul or.... or I don't know, break him or something? And it's all my fault?" There was a part of him that was terrified of the change this would bring, of no longer always having Ben around, but the fear at the front of his mind was that everything would go horribly wrong. People always joked about Max breaking everything he touched, but Casper had a similar sort of problem - his father used to shout at him that he could never do anything right. And here he was, being asked to help with something that had to go perfectly - and Casper didn't think he was good enough for the job.

"It's my resurrection and you're making it all about you," Ben muttered bitterly under his breath.

Max watched as James and Casper shared a tender moment. He couldn't help but overhear what Casper was saying. His words resonated within him. He knew how Casper was feeling right now, because it was exactly how Max was feeling at this very moment. Even James, who continuously praised Max's powers, viewed Max like a mistake waiting to happen. Everyone did. And he couldn't fault them either, he'd had blowouts before. Spouts of uncontrollable power. For all his confidence, it was mostly bluster and hoped that he could actually achieve what he wanted. Yet here he was, trying to do something only the elite had ever accomplished. A resurrection.

Max wanted to say something to Casper. To lift his spirits and calm his nerves. Something that told him he wasn't a mistake or a fuck up or even just a junkie flatscan with a stretchy brother. But it wasn't his place to speak. James was there for him, just like Harry was there for Veil, and Marrow was for Sunshine. His heart ached for a moment as he felt alone for the first time in a long while. But he pushed the thoughts down, suppressing them as he focused on James' request. He tried to think of where to start, and when he'd finally thought he had it he snapped his fingers in a fit of excitement. His magic sprung to life and created a perfect defibrillator right before him.

“What we are attempting here is nothing short of a miracle. There is an element of risk to all parties involved, not just Ben, but if we want this to succeed, we have to accept that and put our energy into figuring this out. All three of us have fucked up and fucked up bad in the past. A demon took Magik’s soul because I couldn’t keep her alive. I still have nightmares about how death felt, how her soul was taken, how Sunshine grieved afterwards because I failed to save someone important to her. But it doesn’t mean I’ll fail here. If anything, it makes me more determined to succeed because Ben deserves a second chance to live.” James whispered back, barely even breaking eye contact to blink. “You won’t fuck this up, Casper. It doesn’t matter what anyone else has told you, it doesn’t matter what your bitch ass father told you, because I know you better than all of them. And I know not only are you loving and intelligent as hell but powerful and determined too. If you put your all into this, pour every bit of care for Ben into making this work, then I have no doubt that you’ll do perfectly. I have always believed in you even when you’ve doubted yourself and that isn’t stopping now because you are fucking amazing and no one is stopping my man from getting his best friend back.

If Casper hadn't been on the verge of tears before, he definitely was now. He didn't try to stop the tears from flowing though, letting them fall as he hugged James tightly. Somehow, his amazing soulmate always knew the right thing to say. "Okay," Casper sniffled. "You're also, like, really hot right now and should give this speech again later," Casper whispered. "Alright, let's fucking do this!" he exclaimed, stepping away from James and rubbing his hands together. "We're gonna bring back Ben! And then we're gonna go get wasted to celebrate!"

Max listened in to James' little rallying speech. He had to give him credit, he gave damn good motivational speeches. But as he began to mention Magik and how he'd failed her, a knot formed in his stomach. He hadn't failed Magik, hell Magik hadn't even died. From their perspective she had passed on and been claimed by a demon into the afterlife. In reality she had just been taken across the pond to go fight in some superhero team over there. Now wasn't the time to mention it, he didn't need to ruin the foundations James had already laid down to get Casper where he was now. But he would need to pull James aside later to let him know of just how perfect he actually is.

Max clapped his hands in an attempt to get their attention, shaking off some of the nerves and concerns he had himself. "Alright. Well if everyone's ready then we have to start with James. Because before we can do anything we need Ben's body in working order. That'll be step one." He had no full idea what he was doing, but he knew this needed to happen. They needed this win.

James snorted at Casper's enthusiasm as he turned his attention to Max. No one was getting wasted after this because no one had any idea how someone resurrected would react and frankly, James was 99.9% sure they were going to need to keep an eye on Ben. "Let me get the organs in shape first and then we'll get started." He said, pulling on a new set of gloves. James scrunched his nose as he opened bags of organs, checking and double checking with Max's statue as he did. Once he was satisfied with everything's placement, he looked at Max and Casper.

Both were eager to get this started and he could only imagine Ben was as well. Honestly, James wasn't even sure this was possible; this was a fucking corpse, not a living, breathing creature, and James hadn't ever tried to restore something that wasn't alive. And not to mention the little caveat that typically vitals between who he was healing and himself aligned but how would that happen with a God damned cadaver? He's had brushes with death before and each one left him shaking, terrified, and with his heart on the verge of stopping. Hopefully, Max and Casper could figure out how to use the defibrillator if it came to that.

James peeled off his gloves and dropped them in the trash, taking a steadying breath before placing his hands directly on Ben's corpse. It was an unpleasant experience but James shoved that down, closed his eyes, and focused. It was different that a living being. There was normally breath, a pulse, some warmth even if it was fading, but the emptiness started early. The familiar sinking felt distant, syncing up to something still, cold, and quiet, as he pushed and pushed, trying to get something, anything, to respond but it was like trying to push a mountain. There was no one to heal, no processes to coax along, nothing that suggested this was possible.

He couldn't breath. His lungs burned, screaming for air, even as he felt his heart slow down further and further and further. The familiar roar of blood in his ears dwindled further and further and further until there was nothing, nothing, nothing tethering him to the here and now. The clutch of emptiness reached into his chest, a cold and lonely feeling, and flashes of memories flickered in his eyes: Luna gasping surrounded by glass, Magik still and unmoving on concrete, Casper bleeding out a floor covered in confetti and glitter. He couldn't catch his breath, couldn't feel his heartbeat, couldn't move, couldn't think, couldn't…

He sucked in a breath as he felt a familiar connection and he chased it, pushing everything he had into that feeling. He felt flesh and muscle and bone shift and grow, sluggish at first but as he rode the high of living, it came faster and faster and faster. Dulled, pale skin darkened to a healthy hue and gashes and rot closed and healed. When he opened his eyes, the steady thump of Ben's heart under his hand gave the illusion the boy on the table was sleeping. "Well, fuck. Step 1 complete, I guess. James laughed, breathless and lightheaded after the ordeal.

Casper started to panic, able to tell when his true love was in horrible shape. He had almost screamed for them to stop when James took in a sudden breath, and Ben's corpse started to look not nearly as decayed as when they had begun. He looked more alive than Casper could have even remembered. Ben (the ghost, not the corpse) was tearing up slightly - Casper hadn't even known it was possible for ghosts to cry.

"This is going to work...It's going to work!"

"Is that me then? That's me then, right?" Casper stammered, feeling hope swelling up in his heart, so much hope it could've broken his chest. Casper didn't know how he was going to do this, and as much as he had been completely terrified less than ten minutes ago, James' speech and James' victory over death had inspired him. Somehow, while Casper didn't know what needed to be done, he could feel it - he had always been more emotionally intelligent than intellectually intelligent anyways. He focused on every memory he had with Ben - the good, the bad, and the ugly. He focused on his best friend, on how much he couldn't wait to have Ben back, on how good it would feel to finally make right what had happened all those years ago.

Blue energy started swirling around not only just Casper, whose eyes were like two glowing orbs at this point, but the living corpse of Ben Hargreeves. The corpse began to float ever so slightly off the ground. Ben's ghost was suddenly visible to everyone, as Ben was drawn into his own corpse, merging with it, the blue light growing more and more intense until no one was really sure where Ben ended and the living corpse began.

"Max, you're it!!!!!" Casper shouted. The blue spiritual energy was humming loudly, a vibration they could all feel inside their skulls.

Max stood by, dumbfounded as he watched James not only mend a broken corpse, but as his lover began to radiate a brilliant blue energy that resonated with the body of Ben. He could feel the immense power humming through him as Caspers words finally sunk in. Ben's body was placed in the center of the space, his head pointed towards an array of candles that were unlit above his head like the canopy of a tree. More candles spread out towards his feet, farther apart and in waving lines acting as the tree's root system while Ben's body made up the trunk. Max stood by Ben's left side, worry filling him as he was afraid he'd mess this all up.

Casper and James had played their parts better than could ever be hoped, and now it all fell to Max to bring it home. A shaky breath escaped him as he summoned his soul staff and began to infuse it with magic. He raised it up high, slamming it down into Ben's center hoe Pixie had instructed him. At first nothing happened. The room was silent save for the humming of Caspers powers and the now raspy inhale of Max as he worried he'd messed it all up. He closed his eyes, letting out a smooth and calmed inhale. Imagining how his powers would flow through him and into Ben, tethering his body to his soul. He thought of the symbolism and why he'd chosen this space, Pixie's space, to perform the ritual. A hollowed tree in complete privacy as if made for this exact thing.

Max thought of Yggdrasil, the sacred tree of the Norse and its other moniker The Tree of Life. A symbol of Life, Death, and Rebirth and whose roots extended through the realms. As he focused on his powers, and how they would meld with the space around him, all the candles began to light in a golden hue before flickering to match the same blue of Caspers powers. It started with one candle, then another, as the canopy of the makeshift World Tree began to come into light, flowing towards Ben's body who now radiated with Casper and Max's powers before the light extended and moved into the roots of the candles below his feet. Rebirth. Max let out another long and steady breath now laced with cosmic magic as it flowed between two lungs and into Ben's giving him the breath of life.

James had often wondered when he met God, what would he feel? Now in the presence of the love of his life and his best friend, James imagined it would feel much like this. Watching death and life bend at the command of mere mortals was both humbling and exhilarating, both awe inspiring and terrifying. He nearly teared up as, despite all Casper’s hesitations and doubts, the blue of Casper’s power engulfed him and Ben alike, bringing soul and body into one. Confidence looked amazing on his man and not the facade he put on in the morning and wore like armor. Casper looked like he realized he was powerful and James never wanted Casper to doubt it again.

And Max. Honestly, while their daily lives drifted a little further since Genosha, James never stopped thinking of Max as his best friend. They’d gotten into this mess together and they’d get out of it together too. James held firm to that belief even when Max drifted to the Hellfire Club and he was so god damn glad he did. Seeing Max in front of him, slowing down, keeping his panic under control, refocusing and bringing his full range of skill to bear was a goddamn masterpiece, a far cry from the startled boy who thought no one saw him accidentally make a pillow with his crush’s face on it. He almost started crying, pride and love and plain wonder wetting his eyes, but they had a mission. He could cry later.

They’d played their parts: a body to live, a soul to bind, and the magic to do it. James reached out, gently touching Ben’s hand where he still floated in a halo of light. “Ben?” James called softly, unsure how he’d adjust to a permanent physical form so connecting just in case something went wrong.

"Come on, buddy - open those gorgeous gorgeous eyes for us," Casper asked, the blue fading from around him and around Ben. He could feel it deep inside - that Ben was no longer in the Void, that he had found his way back to the living. A stupid grin spread across Casper's face. Sure, it was a little weird that Ben was more or less a teenager (Casper hadn't questioned it when Ben's ghost seemed to age in the afterlife) - but he was just so happy to have his best friend back. The fears and worries that had been eating away at him were absent, at least for the moment.

Ben coughed and opened his eyes. It had been an intense rush of sensation, like stabbing himself with all the adrenaline a hospital could supply while competing in the Olympics and belting out a song all at once. Every bit of his being felt fried beyond recognition. He had forgotten too the sounds of his own body - the feeling of having blood pumping through his veins, the rise and fall of his chest as he breathed, the little tingles going up through his body that began at his toes.

Ben started coughing profusely. He opened his mouth and tried to speak, only to find that he couldn't really. His mouth was as dry as a desert - maybe even drier. Ben held up his left hand, and folded down his pinky and thumb. He tapped his index finger to his chin. He knew Casper didn't know sign language, but maybe either Max or James did? Ben was in desperate need of some water.

It took a moment, mostly due to shock, but Max had recognized the motion Ben was making. He took enough ASL in school to get a few words, nothing that he'd consider himself fluent in. One of the few sentences he even knew how to sign was The boy is drinking water. The sign brought a smile to his face, a stupid dopey smile. "What? The McDonald's wasn't enough?" he teased as he twirled his wrist counterclockwise and a large glass of water appeared in his hand. "It's good to see you buddy. Like, actually see you." Max offered the glass of water towards Ben, giving James a bit of a look as he saw his hand on Ben.

He wished he could know what he was feeling. How his vitals were, or even his mental state. He desperately wished to know the full outcome, but all he would know for now is that to an extent it worked. Ben didn't seem like a homicidal mutant with a missing soul so far. He realized they were starting to crowd around Ben a bit. "Um, Should we give him some space? Let him drink and breathe before we all tackle him into a group hug he so desperately deserves?"

James let out a sigh of relief. They'd actually managed to bring someone back from the fucking dead. When Max first explained it, he could barely wrap his head around the idea but here they fucking did it. He let Max figure out what Ben needed bit shook his head at Max's suggestions. "I'm going to stay in contact with him until I'm sure he can stand and function fine. I'm still not 100% convinced we succeeded with a perfect success."

Ben gulped down the water desperately, only to cough. His throat felt like it was full of sand. His body had been reanimated, but that didn't wash the taste of death out of his mouth. Everything felt stunningly vivid and yet sliding out of focus, like looking through 3D glasses at the movies and then suddenly taking them away. The weight of his head felt weird and unnatural as he turned to look at James, trying to reassure them all that he was fine, that he felt great - only for Ben to suddenly lurch and begin to vomit up maggots. Most of the maggots were dead, likely killed by the embalming fluid used. Other gunk was coming up with the maggots, litering the floor of Arbor Magna.

"Oh my god, this is so gross..." Casper murmured, feeling a little queasy himself. He was naturally a bit squeamish, especially when it came to his best friend VOMITING MAGGOTS! Casper closed his eyes, doing all he could to not puke himself. "How nasty was the water you gave him, Maxie?" Casper then asked. It was unclear whether Casper genuinely believed that it was Max's fault or not.

The vomiting ceased and finally Ben spoke. His voice was soft and broken, sounding like a smoker on their deathbed - but it was him all the same. "Ugh... McDonalds..."

The room was filled with the dim glow of blue light from the candles. No flames, only mystic light that remained after the ritual had ended. There was a bit of nervousness in the air as everyone seemed to wonder just how successful it had all actually gone. While Ben seemed to be doing fine, he suddenly lurched forward and began to vomit up dead maggots and other things. Max's stomach dropped immensely and then tried to bounce back up with such force that he himself thought he might vomit. The lights suddenly flickered and ceased, illuminating the blue glow from the room. "Ben. That. Smells…rancid" Max tried not to look, afraid he may throw up. "Listen I heard ghosts liked McDonalds ok?"

Veil & Casper & Sunshine

Location: the Carousel
Skills: Mediumship

The island was aglow in light, a technicolor daydream underneath the Full Moon. The Hellfire Gala had been put on by the Quiet Council to foster a sense of community and togetherness, to allow the mutants of the small fledgling nation to feel connected. Saucier, the finest mutant chef in the world, had personally overseen the catering - food was present from every culture on Earth, and even some food from beyond the stars had made it to the celebration, thanks to some crafty teleporters. Dazzler was booked as the main entertainer for the night, with Lila Cheney, intergalactic superstar, opening for her. Almost the entire island was in attendance, spread across the MASSIVE venue - the outdoor carousel of the island, where gigantic platforms like mushrooms threatened to scrape the sky. Fireworks brightened up the sky regularly, the entire affair a feat meant to boggle the senses. Alcohol was flowing and thanks to designer Jumbo Carnation, everyone looked fierce. Bonfires raged, bathing everyone in warmth.

Aside from the celebrations of life, there was also room for death - for mourning - at the Hellfire Gala. The Carousel was a truly massive venue and it was not far from Hellfire Manor, where Reeva lived. The steps of Hellfire Manor had been filled with holographic cube-like images of the 198 mutants lost in the attack. Candles and flowers and food and other offerings surrounded the images, as people went to say goodbye to their loved ones one last time and pray that they would see them again.

The party had been going on for a few hours now, and Dazzler was in the middle of her set, singing her latest hit - Hands On Me. Renegade had left the party not too long ago, taking home the kids so they could get some sleep (Flower Child, Purple Mongoose, and baby Danny). Though Renegade wouldn't admit it, she was feeling pretty exhausted herself - the X-Pox was making it harder for her to keep going.

The Mutant Underground family was currently seated at a table that was actually a mushroom, with all of the add-ons and guests making it so they could barely fit all the way around it. Casper was practically in James' lap though, which did help - he had to keep his legs crossed with his poofy pink dress to keep himself from flashing the rest of the group (they had already had a few close calls). "So... It's weird that you're not dead, Benny. Almost as weird as the fact that you're like, what, twelve years old now? So you have to go through puberty... again?"

"I'm seventeen, asshole," Ben muttered, rolling his eyes. He was having a bit of a hard time adjusting to being alive again. The first few days, all he had wanted to do was experience everything and do everything. Now, it was hitting him just how much everyone had really moved on and he had stayed still - that and he had almost completely lost his filter, since for almost two decades Casper had been the only person capable of hearing him.

"So rude, what would Mother say?" Casper said with a fake gasp. Ben gave Casper the middle finger and got up from his seat - he was wearing a leather jacket, hoodie, and dark pants - and then went to sit down on the other side of the table. One of Marrow's bones jagged him in the side as he sat down too close to her and Ben winced. "Shit. Keep forgetting I can't just go through things," he complained.

"Watch it, ghost boy," Marrow warned. "I don't need your blood on my brand new fit."

Sunshine giggled slightly. Whereas Marrow had on essentially a black unitard and then bone spikes everywhere, she was in a flowing green dress embroidered with wildflowers. Some of the flowers were braided into her hair. She felt like a fairytale princess. Had anyone pointed that out to her though, Sunshine would have hit them. "Maybe it's past your bedtime," she teased Ben. "You seem pretty cranky."

"I'm fine, if everyone would just stop!"

"Leave him alone, guys," Veil chided, taking a sip of her drink. It was a specialty cocktail they were serving that night, using some flavors that Veil could not even begin to describe - as they were straight from the Shi'Ar galaxy. The drink was staining her tongue blue with purple spots, something that she'd find out later in the mirror. She was wearing a pink suit with a black crop top. And as expected, Veil had gone alone to the gala - she hadn't asked anyone out.

"We need a new topic then," Sunshine said, before a mischevious grin spread across her face. They were at a party, just hanging out and having fun - it was the sort of thing that she loved about Genosha, the freedom for them to just... exist as people. "Let's play fuck, marry, kill. Max, you first," she added, before facing the wizard. "Magneto, Doctor Strange, and Captain America."

"Ooo, me next, me next!" Casper blurted out eagerly. He loved this game.

"I don't... I don't know this game," Legion admitted, looking at Echo and feeling confused. David was the dominant personality - for now, at least. "I don't think any of those people would let Max fuck them?"

Callie Johnson

Location: Genosha, the Carousel

Callie sat down next to Veil she wore a dress with a vanilla white color and a bunch of floral designs all over it, she looked slightly uncomfortable wearing a dress for once. Which was something that she rarely ever did wear, she usually preferred some kind of leather jacket and jeans and some boots as well to. But given that it was a formal event that most of the Quiet Council members agreed with, she leaned back slightly with a glass of wine in her hand as she took a sip of it as well as some of the food that was at their table. Seeing Ben alive and well was actually nice, which gave her hope that they could potentially bring back members of the Underground again.

"So how does it feel to be alive and well again Ben?" Callie asked looking over at Ben as he moved away and sat down close to Marrow, as she leaned back slightly and listened to the music that was being played by Dazzler was pretty nice as she looked over at the scene around her. Everyone was pretty much there and enjoying themselves seeing the bonfires out in the distance as well to, she thought for a moment as she stretched out slightly, like Veil she didn't go with anyone either Sunshine decided to break the ice and start a game as she looked at Max.

Andy sat at the table next to Zari. She didn't know how she felt about being at the gala, but she had been watching her mom from a distance. She was trying to deduce more about the woman. Andy didn't know how she felt about the mom part. She had had no idea her whole life, but apparently, her mom was some super powerful witch. Why hadn't she looked for her? She had so many questions.

Her attention was brought back to the conversation when Sunshine asked Max for some 'fuck, marry, kill' choices. She blinked. She did wonder what Max would say. "It is more about what Max would want to do. Honestly, sometimes the choices are impossible no matter what." She explained to Legion.

James shook his head at the turn in conversation before he rested his head on Casper’s shoulder from his perch on his lap. He wasn’t ashamed to admit he was tired-- he’d underestimated how much effort it was to get the festivities before the gala established and take care of a child (and a Casper) that seemed to have a sixth sense for when they’d finally fallen asleep. He wouldn’t want it any other way though; he already had a full photo album of Casper and the baby because they were so cute together. They'd already had him for three weeks… time flew when you were trying to figure out how to keep from killing a baby, he supposed.

"That was too easy. Max is going to marry Strange, fuck Captain America, and kill Magneto." James laughed. Max would immediately do anything for more magic and this would get him in Strange's world easy peasy. Then he'd have a round with America's ass which left Magneto to take the worst option. James didn't know anything about Strange to say if it was the best arraignment but it seemed the most likely for the subject.

Max had just gotten back towards the table with a second helping of food. He was determined to try out as much interstellar food as he possibly could. His powers allowed him to traverse earth (or midgard) as frequently as he'd cared to so other countries' food didn't quite appeal to him at the moment, but his powers currently couldn't allow him to travel beyond the stars. Something he would need to work and if he ever got time to train under Strange. His current course consisted of Asgardian dishes, boar and goat meat, with a healthy side of vegetables and máni berries to balance out all the savoriness.

Max had taken Sunshines route of just going with the Genosian flow and throwing the rules for drinking out the window. He'd brought a large stein filled with mead, wishing to get the full Asgardian experience. He'd taken the seat Ben had just emptied, giving Casper a bit of a glance as if to ask what he'd done. Max had spotted Veil's drink and eyed it before looking at his. "Awe damn. I must've missed that one, where'd you get it? Also agreed, let Ben have time to adjust, besides I'm only 19 Casper, wait how old even are you?"

His remark didn't go far as Sunshine changed topics to a game, targeting Max as the first victim. Somehow she'd arranged the perfect trifecta that would seemingly get Max in trouble. He stammered for a moment as he tried to think to himself. "Well James I can't kill Magento, he's been through too much and I think that'd actually make me a villain. But I also can't exactly turn down America's ass. So…fuck Cap, marry Magneto, and…kill Strange? No. Well. Maybe. Idk. I can't fuck or marry my mentor. Harry was sitting down next to Legion, sipping on a flute of champagne. While he wasn't as engrossed as Casper was, he still liked to show his affection in small ways. His leg crossed over David's under the table at the ankle, keeping them close without showing too much PDA. he never was one to have overly large displays in front of others unless it was for drama or show. His eyes followed the conversation between Casper and Ben as if he was watching a tennis match, following the ball. A part of him wondered if this was how it always was and now they were simply getting to hear both sides, or was Ben more irritable now that he had more senses to focus on.

It was difficult to say either way as Harry had never experienced death, the closest being when he was in the Astral realm with David some time back. He had been curious about how they'd actually managed to achieve it, but felt it too rude to ask Max, James, Casper, or even Ben about it. He'd also wondered if they should alert Ben's revival to the woman they'd seen back at his grave. His thoughts were broken when David had spoken up, Harry took a sip of his champagne again as Andy answered it to some degree. "She's right. It's not about what's plausible but more so about what they would like to happen, sometimes for better or worse." He said as he tipped his flute towards Max to show off how some choices weren't easy to make.

Zari wasn't entirely too sure what to really expect from the whole Hellfire Gala. It seemed like a typical big party though, and that was something she figured she could deal with. Of course, it had taken a little while for her to get her outfit for the Gala, considering she very much hadn't come with much from her own reality. However she did manage to get something that was very reminiscent of traditional Valkyrie armor, which is what she was wearing now. And since her sword easily could go with the outfit, she had it actually appearing as a sword sheathed at her side, and her horn hooked to the other.

Of course, she currently also had Mr. Eyeball and Mr. Jaws both nearby too, since it was a bit of a party anyway and she wasn't going to leave them far away from anything. They were more or less floating around her a bit, sticking close by to her to make things easier. She was a bit confused by the game or whatever that Sunshine proposed and what she was asking, and Zari tilted her head to the side, "...I'm still kind of confused by the game or whatever or the point of it..." she ended up commenting, Mr. Eyeball started beeping a bit at her, and she rolled her eyes a bit, "What? Might as well ask!"

Jack found it a bit strange at times to currently be in the Carousel, and Ben was suddenly back from the dead. Though from what he knew, Ben more or less wanted to be alive again, and honestly in his case he couldn't exactly blame him. He'd been dead for a long time, and had more or less just been able to converse with Casper, so was that super surprising really? It probably would get annoying having to only be able to talk with Casper who for most of that time was probably high out of his mind.

He decided to ignore the game or whatever that was going and turned to look over at Callie as she had asked Ben about what it was like coming back from the dead, and he was wondering how things were like for him. Especially considering that he'd remember coming back and everything associated with that, whereas he had a very different experience with coming back from the dead. Namely he remembered none of it really, so he was curious how things would be for him.

Miranda was a bit grateful to Ellie for taking Mongoose off somewhere else, it made things a bit easier for her in the long run. She wasn't fully used to taking care of a young child still, so a brief break from her could be a bit helpful. Right now she had more or less been wandering around the gala, alone really once Ellie had left with the kids. There wasn't too much for her to do currently, aside from that, but a thought crossed her mind, and she started to scan the crowd looking for one person in particular.

Eventually, she spotted Erik in the crowd, he wasn't that hard to miss really, he did tend to stand out a bit. They hadn't really had a chance to actually talk for a while, especially since at times it felt like he was avoiding her, and because of that strangeness, she had ended up staying with Ellie for a bit. She made her way over and eventually stood by him, "Hello there," she said calmly with a slight smile and a wave. Figuring to try and be upfront about things and at least say hi to him or something. Though overall she wasn't sure what she was even going to really say to him beyond that.

Veil & Casper & Sunshine

Location: the Carousel
Skills: Mediumship

Mutant Underground Table -

Ben huffed slightly. He missed the part of being a ghost where people left him alone when he wanted to be left alone - except for Casper. But he had gotten so used to Casper's constant Casper-ness that it didn't phase him as much. "I really don't want to talk about being dead - I'm happy to be alive, but if everyone could just stop pestering me, that would be fucking fantastic." His table manners weren't the best either - once again, he was out of practice when it came to socializing with people.

"Like I said, cranky," Sunshine repeated. She could emphasize a little bit with Ben - sure, people were pestering him, but they just wanted to talk to him. And he had just come back from the dead - people wanted to talk about it, it was the most interesting thing about him. Give it some more time and people would start asking him about other things. On her part, teasing was how she showed affection - calling Ben cranky was Sunshine's way of saying I care about you.

"You should never ask a lady her age," Casper said, before putting the fingers of his hand under his chin, in a way to look cute and innocent. "But I'm a slut, so I'll tell you - yours truly is thirty one years old~." Had he been able to speak with a sparkle emoji, there would've been one following his sentence. Casper's attention though immediately shifted to Max's answer to the game -

"You gotta fuck Captain America, everyone knows he has a star spangled bubble butt!" Casper looked around the table, expecting to see people nodding their heads in agreement. "He's def a bottom. Maybe a power bottom, but a bottom anyways. Now Stark? Stark is a top. I'd let Stark blow my back out any day - with your permission of course, babe," he then added, slinking an arm around James' shoulders.

"...I'm so out of my depth here," David admitted nervously. He had spent most of his life in one institution or another. In some areas, he was extremely naive - and this happened to be one of them. Ordinarily when he got nervous like this, someone else would take over and run things - but tonight, he was doing his best to be present for Harry.

"You're fine, Davie," Casper told his brother. "But our little bro? He's so quiet. Why are you being so quiet, Jackie? What's your answer? Me, I agree with Max. I bet Erik is fucking wild in bed too though. Old men know things. And you cannot convince me that he's not a little fruity."

Veil shook her head slightly. Casper was derailing things a little bit, but she also didn't care. Her Shi'ar cocktail was taking the edge off and giving everything a pleasant buzz. "When you're done defending yourself, it's at the Shi'ar tent - it's called the Gin Crimson," she explained. It was a pun on the name of a not-so-secret Shi'ar society, the Kin Crimson - with famous member Erik the Red, who was not Cyclops, despite Cyclops at one point pretending to use that name.

"Huh, wonder what she wants..." Marrow then said, noticing a woman dressed with an elegant, witchy headdress walking over towards the table - making a beeline straight for Andy.

"Darling, won't you give Mummy a kiss?" Selene asked, grinning wide. She then shot a wink at Jack. "And don't think I've forgotten you, handsome."

House of M Table -

Magneto glanced up from his seat at the table, seeing Miranda standing near him. Polaris had been sitting with him at the table earlier in the night, but she had gone off with some of her friends, dancing the night away. It was only him at the table reserved for his family, the House of Magnus marked with a glowing M on the surface of the table. He certainly looked the part of an aristocrat, dressed in white with gold finery. Rather than a helmet, he wore an elegant top hat. His mind was open to whatever telepaths were present.

While they were both members of the Quiet Council, Miranda had been avoiding him - and the feeling was mutual. They had been on-again off-again for ages - Miranda had helped to raise some of his children. But this, this felt final. This felt broken. "Moneta," Magneto said, his voice even. "If you've come to deceive me, I'm uninterested," he added, not rising from his seat.
