<Snipped quote by SleepingSilence> I still have no idea what that game is supposed to be about. The only thing I've even heard about it is people meming the part about a talking gun to death in regards to writing/comparing it to High On Life.

It's an isekai that had an unfortunate trailer a couple months ago that has now saddled the game with a reputation of being 'cringe Marvel humor' (even though that says nothing) which is a weird talking point in a game that is ostensibly a bland open world rpg with moderately fun magic based combat and traversal mechanics. It's the kind of game that a couple generations ago would come out to little fanfare and be forgotten but then a couple years later would have people calling it a hidden gem.

The comparisons to High on Life is that, much like High on Life, the talking companions don't ever shut the fuck up. It's worse in High on Life because the guns, knife, and enemies all create a maddening dirge of Justin Roiland humor but in Forspoken it's a lot of quippy jabs between the protag and her haughty magic bracelet. So pick your poison, really.

I'd suggest looking at videos of both before buying either.

Both have what I find to be very grating dialogue. High on Life is a lot of the weird "quirky" rambling shit that made Rick and Morty popular. Forspoken has a lot of sort of too cool to care, bland back and forths. Like that whole "they can fly now? They can fly now!" bit from whichever of the newer Star Wars movies that was in.

High on Life is near constant blather so it shouldn't be hard to see if it's to your liking or not. Forspoken has a ton of videos and articles about its shit writing so it shouldn't be hard to suss out if you'd like it or not.

Ex: High on Life - Language Warning, a lot of swearing
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IWqLmQbicR8

Ex: Forspoken - Cringe Warning, extreme cringe, maximum oof, much seethe
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rhkQE6NKS6E

That said from the early long ago ingame footage Forspoken did look to have fun traversal. I'm not interested in trying it, but maybe a sequel or future game by the creators. After they hire some writers. I hear Poohead is available.

Bango, I hear you saying, it's not that bad.

You Can Tell Forspoken To Shut Up (And Other Important Settings)

Some of the other accessibility and Ease of Use options are nice though.

High On Life is probably a better game but it is also way unfunnier and more annoying and has worse writing. Forspoken is just so bland that people have to latch onto 30 second clips from the first hour because that's the only thing of note. Both games have jokes that land and Forspoken is probably funnier but it all depends on if you think subpar Joss Whedon writing (who is already a shit writer) is funnier than rambling improv shotgun approach style.

Both are emblematic of why video game writing is pretty universally reviled and for good reason but neither are like so bad because of the writing alone

Come on now. Even Kotaku is pointing out that you can turn the chatter down and several reviews point it out.

It's bad.

I said it had more jokes that land, that doesn't mean I said it was good.

Both games also have options to turn down the chatter.

Meh.

Hopefully they build on the traversal and fix the dialogue if they do a sequel. It also ran into issues with it being an "open world" game with a lot of "You have strayed from the path, returning to start point" type messages.

I'd love to see something like another Shadow of Mordor using more of Forsaken's quick traversal. If they could combine the careful sneaking of Shadow of Mordor/War or Assassin's Creed with the speed and maneuverability of Forspoken that would be cool.

Forspoken's story seems lame and reviews have mentioned the main characters lack of interest in exploring the world as an issue...but if they take criticisms to heart a sequel could be pretty cool, assuming MC is still stuck in the fantasy world at the end of the game.

If they did like a "it's been four years and I'm still here" type of deal. Have her fighting whatever enemy or perhaps she's the ruler putting down whatever rebellion or expanding borders. Seems like a potentially interesting scenario. What becomes or Isekai 21/22 year old New Yorker when she can't go home and has all this power.

If they hire competent writers.

What my eyeball zones in on:

High on Life - $59.99.
Forspoken - $69.99.. for basic edition, $94.99 deluxe.

Already thought High on Life's too short for that price tag and passed until it's on sale and so far I'm not filled with confidence on Forspoken.

I want to trust Bethesda again. But Fallout 4. Let alone 76.

>Forspoken also requires you to have a PC designed to fight God and nothing else, at least if you want the bare minimum of 60fps. Because yes, to get that I should have to buy a damn RTX 4090, which just came out like what, only a few weeks ago?

>I'm sure that none of those overheating issues and potential shortages-to say nothing of the price tag-will be conflicting factors whatsoever. Nope, not at all.

The games closer to release I'm more interested in are Atomic Heart and the Resident Evil 4 Remake, though I feel the latter didn't need a remake.

Good thing Redfall is by Arkane who only put out bangers and games that are fun but are forgotten in two months like Deathloop!

Full honesty I never played that or any of those games it looks very much homework copied off of...but I do have a lot more faith in Arkane.

The only one I know of is DeSmuME. I played through Heartgold Randomized on it. It worked well enough, though there was the occasional visual glitch, though from what I've heard it's mostly from the game, not the emulator.

I recommend MelonDS [or its Libretro core if you're into using Retroarch.]

Tends to do well and handles a few edge case issues I used to have with DeSmuME like DSi and wifi emulation better. Both are good / servicable though.
