"Don't mind the faint glow of the soup, it means it's good."GENERAL INFORMATION
Name: Solace
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Race: Sollan
Origin: Edren, A town near Chocobo Forest
COMBAT INFORMATION
Class: Bard
Weapon: Crossbows and a war drum.
Solace carries a small repeating crossbow for quickly discharging bolts(unable to operate drums while shooting with this).
He also carries two bigger crossbows for more powerful bolts, sacrificing firing speed for accuracy and power of individual shots.
The war drum Solace possesses can be mounted in front of his abdomen so that he can operate his crossbow with one hand and beat the drum with the other.
Inventory:
Cooking utensils and various spices.
Various tools and ingredients for improvising crossbow bolts.
Materia: [Currently two max.]
-Slow Prayer: A Materia that allows its user to imbue healing properties to the food they cook. Simpler cuisine tend to be easier to imbue said properties, having Solace resort to making tea and vegetable soup for healing purposes.
Limit Breaks:
-Crook's March
Solace enters a trance-like state of flashbacks and anger, channeling its energy into his war drum. Violent, fast beats motivate his allies in combat and distract his enemies.
In this state, Solace is unable to operate his crossbow, only able to thrash out his limbs for self defense. Gaining injuries can interrupt and end this state quicker, but the remaining rage can be delivered with his crossbow strikes.PERSONAL INFORMATION
Appearance Details: A man who usually hides his face with a mask, covered in travel attire that protects him from rough weather and hostile entities. He carries a bag full of luggage, somehow managing not to explode into a mess. Solace's attire tends to cover most of his skin from head to toe, the mask even having an opening mouth hole for when he has to eat.
The attire consists of a dull brown tone top and bottom, along with a olive green hood going over his head. The mask is made of wood, weathered and stains littered here and there.
Simply put, his attire is dull and basic, not much unique.. for now.
Under the garment, Solace has a fairly built body with muscles under his skin, though not muscular enough to look like a seasoned warrior. He is far from a typical heroic figure.
Personality:
Solace has lacking confidence on himself, consciously and subconsciously relying on the help of others to complete challenging tasks. Naturally, a task done alone tends to cloud his mind with doubt and concerns. It is a habit that has stuck with Solace for a long time, hardly going away. For now, at least.
When meeting people, Solace is kind and is willing to help whatever he feels he can, although the self doubt keeps the list of options in his head quite small. But as emotional and self doubting as Solace can be, he still seeks to improve himself so that he won't put the lives of others in jeopardy. This sometimes comes out as him treating others as his "teacher", the subject varying from small to big things such as "maintaining small talks" to "crossbow marksmanship". He is a student filled with both will and doubt.
Solace has one of his "episodes" sometimes, a rush of negative emotions and unpleasant memories of his past mistakes scraping about at his mind. While he used to ball up and wait till it passes, he newly found a way to channel such energy into a form of motivation with the help of his war drums.
Biography:
Solace grew up in a quiet town in the woods, a bit North to the Chocobo Forest of Edren. He had a different name, and a family to live with. They were a loving family- a father with a bit of temper and a good heart, a somewhat stubborn but kind mother, and a brother with a heart and will.
The town foraged and hunted for a living, peacfully resting in a form of almost a self sufficiency. They did sell some of the yields of their hunt for necessary supplies, but other than that there was little to no contact with the outside world.
A group of bandits, who got their hands on two Materia by sheer luck, set their eyes on this town. In one hand was a Materia that could spring a deadly sickness, and on another a one that could heal people of disease. They contacted the townsfolk disguised as travelling merchants, here to stay for some time.
Soon after the bandits' arrival, the town suffered from a sudden spread of disease. The so-called merchants started selling healing supplies at a very high price, until they had the entire town on their hands. After some time passed with this vicious monopoly in play, a small group of townsfolk rebelled against these bandits. Solace's brother was among the brave rebels, while Solace was too afraid to fight until the last moment.
Solace walked out to see the death of his brother. He had shriveled into a mangled corpse from prolonged exposure to the power of the Materia. Solace fired the crossbow out of a rush of rage. The bandit captain fell, dropping down the Materia to the ground. Solace didn't waste any time getting hold of those magic utensils to take out rest of the bandits. Solace left the town, shocked by the loss of his brother and his lack of courage to stand up in the fight and hopefully save his brother. Leaving behind his old name and a fallen town, Solace started a new life.
Solace learned better work of his crossbow and the beating of wardrums on his travel, helped by strangers who had warm hearts and the patience to teach him their ways.
The Materia of sickness was discarded, left to a knight Solace ran into while traveling Balmung so that it would not be abused by the wrong user.
Traits:
-Yearns to make deep bonds, yet fears approaching others for such deep bonds.
-Emotional, easily swayed by emotions and often into a negative feedback loop.
-Sweet? Tooth. Solace enjoys tea to calm down his nerves, and would be willing to share with you a warm cup of tea.
Relationships:
-A stranger who taught Solace how to properly operate crossbows in combat. His hometown used crossbows, but only for hunting wild animals.
-Another stranger who taught him how to play a war drum, and gave him one.
-Most of the townsfolk of Solace's hometown are dead, and the survivors think he died in the fight.
If anything, I think I might've made my character a bit too heroic, I might look at tuning things down a bit
