In the 1930’s, Steel City was ‘the place to be.’
At least that’s what was on the welcome signs entering city limits... Steel City was generally associated with the metals it produced; however it was also strongly associated with gangsters and speakeasies providing alcohol following Prohibition. The Great Depression didn’t do the city any favors either. Many people turned to crime as a way to deal with poverty. In the sixth largest city in the United States, this fact didn’t do the citizens any favors. Something around twelve percent of adults were involved in the criminal activity sweeping over the major metropolitan area.
Everything changed when a police officer seemingly lost his life in a motorcycle accident. Within the first few months of 1932 several heroes would rise and gain fame in the newspapers. This included what was thought to be an undead man of the law, a man who manipulated smoke, and what could only be described as a man with mechanical arms. The Steel City Tribune made a fortune, and was rumored to be involved with some of the bigger criminal organizations making headlines on the regular. Nobody knew the members of the Copper Kids Gang were tied to the two deaths and the fire at Wayne Orphanage except for the Editor In Chief/Publisher of the Tribune, Walter King, who paid the orphans in pennies to make it happen.
Every so often a costumed madman would show up in the city looking to rob one of the larger banks in the States, or try to make a name for themselves taking down one of the heroes from the newspapers. It didn’t matter either way; the Tribune would give them a moniker. But what other secrets do the mean streets of Steel City hold? Crooked cops, mobsters, maybe an aforementioned costumed madman or two await our intrepid heroes!

If it hasn’t been mentioned yet, I’m basing Steel City on Chicago in the 1930’s. Skyscrapers, newsboys, gangsters, bootleggers, the whole nine yards…
The stats are mostly for the battling. While we're still telling a story from our heroes POV, the battles will give each scene more weight when we're put in situations we can barely overcome if at all. You'll control your characters once I set up the battles as well as the enemies you fight to a degree. If any fights are too one sided I'll post using the enemies more to level the playing field. I'm thinking with every 5 posts in-game when you earn a stat point and level up your health stat will reset. That should make it more fair when we're surrounded by half a dozen enemies.
Here's a breakdown of how the system works:
Here's an example of a stat card. Superman, although he should be a Level 15 or 20, is a Level 10 enemy with only a few of his powers and abilities shown in his attacks and defenses lists. This should show that even if you have a ton of powers, unless you place the stat points in attack or defense, you can only use the attacks and defenses listed while in battle. Superman is in the second strength class and in the second or third speed class. Had he been a Level 15 or 20 he'd have had the freeze breath and other classic attacks.
Here's another Level 1 stat card for a character in an older game...

So with all of that out of the way, you guys have all got an idea of what’s in store. I’m currently working on Level 1 stat cards for everyone. I finished the base card design for everyone earlier and now its just a matter of resizing images and throwing numbers into everything. Accepted characters can go ahead and repost their character sheets in the character tab. The list of accepted players/characters includes:
@Omega Man – Boy Blue
@rocketrobie2 – Living Apparition
@Blizz – Prof. Ironside
@Double – Lawman
@Clever Hans – Tom Fury
I should have the IC up and going before the weekends over. Just wanted to get more posted before I lose anyone in this RP cause some recent home repair issues have put me a couple days behind on everything. I’ll likely get a Discord going in case anyone wants to chat or ask questions about stuff. More updates incoming as well as GM Notes, maybe a basic map of the city, etc…!
