@Duckie no problem! I was concerned about overlap because of the orbs you had mentioned, not really them being sand, so I could have written that better. Your ideas seem interesting, but also a little all over the place. That's okay when brainstorming, but depending on the implementation it might not give other writers a chance to do much.

When I think of a support role, I imagine perhaps magic that strengthens others or maybe healing magic. You're describing offensive magic with a few other different ideas thrown in. I think you could go either way, but it would be helpful to narrow down your idea for your character. Some kind of desert fairy could be a unique approach, or maybe they are a more traditional fairy, depending on what you prefer.

I'd probably have to say no to sleep spells for the same reason I said mo to the siren bard, but there's a lot of potential here and we can certainly talk more about it.

@Zapdos No worries at all! And I was definitely thinking a sand/desert fairy of sorts. I'm definitely all over the place, I will say that. I guess I wanted to add just a few offensives, very minimal just incase there's a time she's alone (Example, scratchiness of sand simply grazing their skin as a distraction). Other than that, I really do think I may sit down and see what kinds of properties sand can have on the body, example maybe being salt/ sand but of course with magical properties. Kind of using the idea of salty properties increasing the rate of healing via a sprinkling of magic to boost it. I was also thinking of ideas pertaining to sand/sandstone to overall buff an individual's armour/skin? I'm not really sure how that would work.

Thank you so much for the advice, still a little scattered in terms of an entire image.

@Duckie I see, well you've got it narrowed down a little, I suppose. Sand isn't necessarily salty, but yeah there's definitely a lot of potential with the sand and desert theme. It could be symbolic too, not necessarily strictly literal sand being part of the spells e.g. warmth in a desert translating to a healing spell, perhaps.

Not a problem, I think you'll be able to think of a CS!

@Zapdos The Templar idea forms stronger and stronger in my mind already BUT, I've got yet another idea that might prove quite interesting and that I've been meaning to play for a while.

A vampire but not in the traditional sense. In a CYOA book I read vampire were people who's souls have been replaced by a demon. So, one soul goes on, other soul is destroyed but not in all cases. In very rare cases, a person's soul was very strong (lots of willpower) and instead of being replaced, they fused together. 2 souls, 1 body. They didn't drink blood but drank on the soul of the creatures.

The character I'm thinking will be a girl, young and innocent while her demon is the opposite but they co-exist. Each with skills that are opposites to one another. Two characters in one, basically. How does that sound? If it's a no-no, then I'll go for the templar.

@Timemaster regarding your vampire idea, I suppose it would depend on the idea's execution. What powers would they have?

So I always have so many ideas so wondering which of these might fit the party the best.

A Scholar among Foxes, a foreigner, something rolewise similar to a bard, but without the musical connotation that D&D often ascribes to them. magic is pulled from diverse sources of apocrypha.

A character who claims to just be a pilgrim, claims to be a simple person. perhaps extremely lucky or unlucky, depending on your point of view. knows much more than a typical pilgrim, well travelled. Townsfolk often say that the pilgrim can help with what ails you, but to not speak too loudly about it. (this character will probably need more GM talk, because of their secret, but might potentially be interesting)

I like the first idea - something of an underground scholar, gaining their magic through obscure books, if I'm getting your idea right? The second one would probably require more of my input than would be fun for you, so I can't recommend it for the RP.

@Zapdos At the start of the RP? She will have some weak healing magic and cooking skills and knows which part of the knife to avoid (stabby part) but that's it. Him though...well, considering that he's trapped in a body of a girl, he'll be tiny bit faster than someone who didn't train that much, stronger too but at the risk of putting too much strain on the body. Neither of them needs normal food and heal a bit faster than a normal human.

Towards the end, when they'll actually be strong adventurers? She will have strong healing magic and know how to fight with a weapon (depending on which other character made by other players would want to train her). He will faster, stronger and (not sure yet) either get some blood magic or persuasion skills (control the mind of a person for a few minutes).

The main thing is that while they're a vampire, he can't be in control for too long. She will be in control of the body until they finally learn how to co-exist and share control. As at the start of the RP, she'll be afraid of letting him have control for long periods of time.

How does that sound?

@Timemaster I don't care for the mind control aspect, though that's just one part of the character as a whole so I don't want to give the impression I'm just judging just based off of that.

Besides that, I'm not sure the vampire possessed lady really differentiates itself much from just an average rookie healer/fighter. It's not like it's an OP concept, maybe it just needs to be fleshed out more. (Also I'm not sure what blood magic would be here.) Or go with your orc idea, that could also work.

Is that helpful?

@Zapdos The whole "I'm a pure innocent woman that belives killing is bad" vs "I'm a blood-thirsty monster that has seen billions killed, tortured in the worst ways possible" spiel also stroke a cord in me. Two personalities that are at odds with one another. Two people that are wholy different. From a story perspective, they'll both come to terms to whom they are now. They'll grow into a strong pair. They will start discovering that they're not as different as they think they are.

Yes, at the start of the story, they would be average. Maybe even weak (the human part at least) but that's the point, right? Have characters that are novices/a bit above that grow into real heroes or so.

Blood magic - control of a person's blood in different ways. Stopping it to flow for a few sec, forming blood into solid forms and flinging it at targets.

@Timemaster I like the characterization, so if that's the direction you want to go in, okay.

I think as long as the blood magic isn't bring used to control people (think blood bending from Avatar) it sounds good to me.

Name: Jason Miller

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Class: Mage (Kinda)

Appearance:

Jason is tall and lean, standing at exactly six feet tall. He does a lot of time doing physical labor on his family’s farm, and while he is not as big as his dad is, he still has a slender build with defined muscles that he is proud to show off. He spends plenty of time out in the sun, and thus has a tanned skin complexion. He has a boyish face, though he still possesses a firm jaw. He has a small nose, and large, expressive almond shaped eyes, which are a bright electric blue color. He has short dirty blonde hair which is always a mess, and frankly he likes it that way.

He dresses fairly simply. His family isn’t rich, so they don’t have nice clothes. Besides, fancy outfits are impractical for farmers anyway. To be honest, he spends most of his time shirtless. He’s seen books with pictures of how mages dress, and adapted the style to suit his own tastes. He wears a sleeveless light blue hooded cloak. He leaves it open all the time revealing his chest and abs. As bottoms he wears a pair of matching blue pants, that are held up by a beige belt. As footwear he wears a pair of sturdy beige boots that are comfortable to walk around and work in.

Abilities: Lightning Magic: Jason has an affinity for Lightning magic. He can summon lightning for various purposes. Including shooting electricity out of his hands, and delivering lightning punches. That’s pretty much the extent of his magic.

Farmer Skills: Jason is familar with all the ins and outs of running a farm. Planting and tending to crops, raising livestock, etc.

Cooking: Jason has learned how to prepare the food he grows on the farm.

Equipment: Hoe: When magic doesn’t work, Jason whacks enemies with his trusty farming hoe. Not as potent as an actual weapon, but it does hurt!

Personality: Jason is a farmer. He is often seen selling stuff at the local market, and does plenty of work on his family’s farm. He actually doesn’t hate farm work. It’s exhausting work yes, but at the end of the day there is nothing more satisfying than a job well done.

Jason has a fascination with magic. He greatly appreciates good displays of magical power. It started as a curiosity about the subject. Ever since the disappearance of his brother, grew into a desire to gain power for his own needs.

Jason is brave, daring, and extremely determined. He can be very impatient, wanting to get stuff done as soon as possible. As such, he will often charge straight into danger, and often prefers to zap first and ask questions later. As such, he can be reckless and get himself into danger if he thinks he is right. Jason is also very blunt. He says exactly what he thinks no matter who he hurts. He lacks patience for people he deems to be slow.

Jason can be very stubborn, and it’s difficult to get him to admit when he’s wrong about something. He can also be hostile to people who have different opinions than him. He doesn’t like to accept help for things he knows he can do on his own. He’s confident in his own skills, and believes he can handle his own problems himself. The upside to this though, he doesn’t give up easily when things get hard. He also has no problems giving help to others when they need it.

Biography: Jason was born into an average family. The family worked on a farm. His father did all the physical labor that running a farm involves, his mother sold the stuff they produced on the farm at the market as well as ran the home, and Jason and his twin brother, William were expected to help out around the farm. They lived a fairly average life. Jason and his twin brother were very close. The two played together all the time, and got along great. They rarely fought, and when they did have a disagreement, they made up fairly quickly. Jason’s parents hated magic. They believed that relying on a dangerous and unpredictable force could lead to nothing but trouble. For a while, the brothers shared those feelings.

One day, while the boys were playing one day, away from the eyes of their parents. In their playing, William got hurt. He tried diving into a lake, and ended up cutting himself on a rock. Jason panicked. His brother was hurt, he had no idea how to make him not hurt anymore, and more importantly he didn’t want to have to tell his parents that his sibling got hurt on his watch. Fortunately for them, an older gentleman happened to be passing through. He saw what happened, and helped out. The man was a doctor. He used mysterious magic and his own medical knowledge to fix the boy right up. After that, the boy’s opinions on magic changed.

Life continued on after that, but now something was different. Now Jason was fascinated with magic. It had saved his brother, and now he was curious about what other things it could do. Whenever he had free time away from doing farm chores, Jason did all he could to learn about magic. He read every book on the subject he could get his hands on, and at night would practice spells. He wanted to learn the mysterious magic that man used, but at some point discovered he had more of an affinity for lightning magic, and soon changed course. He wasn’t sure what he was going to do with this power, but it was still cool all the same.

At some point, William left to go on his own journey. He wanted to become a knight, and help out his country. Jason stayed behind to help out on the farm. For a while the brothers exchanged letters. Then, the communication stopped. Now, Jason is going on an adventure to find out what happened to his brother, and possibly learn more about magic in the process.

Name: Mildew Larue

Age: 16 [time of death], 56 [ghost age]

Species: Human…but dead

Gender: Female

Appearance: Her skin is a translucent blue, sickly and pale looking while her hair is a similar shade of bluish-white, long and wavy. Where her eyes are supposed to be are instead two glowing lights in the vague shape of eyes.
She dons a simple white dress. She has a thin ragged (and transparent) form, as if she was recently ill.

Mildew Larue was known as the black sheep of her family. Those 40 years ago, before her untimely death, she was quiet and reserved, never speaking unless spoken to. At least, that’s all she remembers.

She was diagnosed with pneumonia and died the same year. How she came to be a ghost is a mystery, though a few days before her death, there were whispers of a dark necromancer lurking near town.

When she had risen once more, she was even more shunned than she was while alive. The people she had once loved feared her, so much so that they hired an exorcist specifically to push her far, far, away.

Afraid, alone, and hurt, she had retreated to a lonely crypt.

Now, to celebrate her 40th death-day, she has emerged, sure that the ones that hated her were now also dead and seeking something to do.

Strengths
She can be incredibly stealthy. Not speaking when spoken to came with its perks- through listening while alive, she had learnt many secrets when other thought those secrets were safe to be shared.

Although she cannot interact with objects of the physical world, she can interact with that of the mental world. If she tries hard enough, she can delve into the mind of others, ‘possessing’ them for a short while. However, she cannot keep this up for long and will be forcefully ejected in an exhausted state if done for too long a time.

Weaknesses

As a Dark ghost, any type of water enchanted by Light magic will harm her. If doused with such water, she would disappear, pulled back to Limbo where she rightfully belongs though defies anyways. This goes with any other Light magic enchanted weapon, which can harm her unlike other weapons.

She cannot interact with physical objects and therefore cannot hold a weapon. This practically makes her useless in physical combat.

Abilities

Mildew can phase through walls and turn invisible, as goes with most ghosts.

If she tries hard enough, Mildew can shape her form to how she sees fit, I.E forming her hand into a blade. Mind you, this won’t normally do any damage to the physical body, but will harm other apparitions and beings made of magic.

here’s the ghost cs
