Also just to put everyone at ease skills are a work in progress system so don't worry too much if the IC goes up and they're not 100% perfect. I'll likely be tinkering with them for a bit

Ah don't worry about it boss, I've been in enough of your rps to have absolute faith in your ability to grandfather it in. ✌

I stand by living in the toolshed, I already envision that one night she hears something like munching or someone going "Om, nom nom dis tasty." a bit too loud and finding a small green lizard sitting in a patch of flowers eating a fern with a vacant look in his eyes.

Then being shooed by a broom wielding Nibby.

More rather, a giant spiderress that appears to be part tree woman with a shovel.

I've never been in a text-based RP with a customized skill system like this, so it's really cool to see! Thank you for your effort in doing this for each of our characters!!

@Zeroth I'm imagining Old Man Goh's house might be close to the Smithy so he gets some residual heat in the part of the house closest.. but maybe not. purely curious, does he like to grab his meals at the inn or cook for himself at home? I can imagine him enjoying the slow life and he might know Ingrid as well.

Accepted! Happy to have some kids running around town too. Skill lists we can develop together, I'm trying to keep the syntax consistent for referencing during the RP more then anything. Feel free to add anything you think is missing. 'Dangersense - Protect Ward' is ward as in student. If the kids were in trouble nearby, he'd know.

Slash Resistance II
Blunt Resistance I
Cold Resistance I
Passive: Dangersense - Killing Intent
Passive: Dangersense - Protect Ward
Inert Magic - Killer Glare
Swordsmanship (Precise)
Wayfaring - Plains
Fishing
Swimming
Crafting - Trapmaking
Trapping
Jack of Trades: Odd Jobs
Training: Swordsmanship
Leadership
Detect Deception
Detect Intent
Sneak

Being close to the smithy would be fine--he'd probably enjoy wandering over there to admire the craftsmanship from time to time. He would cook for himself, though it would be very basic: Rabbit caught fresh from a snare trap, some wild onions and herbs plucked on a walk, and some dry rice from a big sack he keeps in storage all thrown into a boiling pot, that kind of thing. Self-sufficient stuff you'd expect someone used to roughing it to eat.

I think he'd know Ingrid, and given that the idea was that he'd been in the village for perhaps 5-7 years, I was going to do a little write up to add to his character sheet that was basically his "first impressions" of most other characters and NPCs.

Would the following proposal be suitable for Skills? Feel free to change any names:

First Aid: Self (He knows how to stitch and bandage himself up, disinfect his own wounds, reset his own bones, etc, but he's not a trained doctor or experienced in treating other people like Nibby)

Passive: Identify - Technique (The ability to understand--not copy--someone else's combat skills, for instance if he saw Rallis at target practice he'd deduce something like "Hm. He crouches low and aims through the target, instead of launching the arrow up and over. He's a game archer, then, not a soldier." Or he might recognize that someone's a student of a prominent sword style just by the stance they take up.)

Inert Skill: Instant Movement (High speed, no telegraph, multiple directions, greater distance)

  • Inert Skill: Blink Step (High speed, no telegraph, one direction, medium distance)

    • Active: Quick Step (High Speed, telegraphed, one direction, short distance)

Essentially, the above would be your generic "move real fast" technique any good swordsman should have. Quick Step just covers about 2 meters, but if one knows what to look for they could predict it and it basically moves in a straight line. Blink Step is where it gets to "flicker out of sight" levels because it uses the enemy's blindspot, and Instant Movement just improves on the whole package while being usable from any bodily position, such as standing still, without giving the movement away.

I like how the most important connection on my sheet so far is Squig, oh I forgot to mention his best friend is a lil larva he calls Squig.

Speaking of connections, how bout we forge dem connections while we all wait in the meantime?

Scratch that actually is there a name for the realm as a whole that the inhabitants of this place call? If not for now I guess Hearth is a good name as any. Or some conjugation of Hearth.

Taking into consideration that Nibiria lives alone, works on commission, and doesn't visit town, since she lives on the land - spider webs are good for catching critters - she wouldn't have any connections out the gate, save for a few regular
patients from the Hamlet.

Even with Wormy sleeping in her toolshed, she's seldom to visit it, since she grows mostly herbs that are potted indoors, and uses her Earth Magic to dig and till her veggie farmland outdoor.

Nibby is a lonely woman on purpose.

Part of me thinks I should've made a tavern owner instead, for some reason that role completely slipped my mind lol

Nothing stopping you could pursuing that goal in-character. After all, Nibiria is considered an Apothecary, but in the big city, she wouldn't be seen as anyone important, unless she trained and proved herself as a Pharmacist.

Who is to say, a humble blacksmith wouldn't take on projects as commissions, and use his money to open a bar as his passion, once inspired to?

This is what I've got so far. I took some liberties with worldbuilding here and there, so everyone--especially @Mae--feel free to veto or correct anything I've written out.

@MaePetty crimes, she can just good noodle "I'm not mad" people into admission or do stakeouts.

Actually figuring out something devious? She 100% needs a crime fighting partner who's the brains.

Probably not evolution, but temporarily gaining stats from special meals would be a gas. She just slams down some special booze and somehow becomes more intelligent.

edit: forgot about the last bit about military skills

Yea, she's had a noble and knight's upbringing. Military tactics would have been part of it. Getting them to stick, considering her air-headedness, was a great challenge to her tutors/masters.

@Theyra Accepted! Definitely worth working out if you have connections with [@Enkrypton] Nibby and @scrawls. Nibby creates medicines and like Zhar has a herb garden, so they'd definitely be aware of each other as the only potionmakers in town. And you may have met Boro recently as he's reopened the library, and Zhar might find some books there useful.

So developing your skill list now. What does Zhar's elven ancestry grant in his case? Do you have an affinity for nature? Also with a high Dex he shoul definitely have some skills relating to that, how do you imagine he spends his time?
Upgraded Skill - Stealth* (ancestry)
Locked - Innate Magic
Passive: Dangersense - Concoction Mishap
Passive: Magicsense, Sentient, bodily
Identify: Reagent
Identify: Potion
Research - Potions
Gardening - Herbs
Wayfaring - Woodlands

I think his elf ancestry grants him agility or grace with his actions, maybe? Maybe sleight of hand with his high dex or accurate with a crossbow? I imagine he spends his time when not making potions and reading is maybe playing with cards or taking walks in the forest. When not in town, selling potions and getting supplies.

@Dark Cloud *salutes* always an absolute pleasure doing with you. Also, Hearth is the name of the village, still working out a name for the inn ect.

@scrawls that's really kind thank you!

@Zeroth Those are great skills, add 'em up! If you can leave the explanation in a hider underneath so in 3 weeks time I remember which are telegraphed.

@Wayward Love his vow of silence. Considering him accepted but please fix his stats and request another review - should be a quick fix, right now you have three 2 stars and one of them needs to be Untrained [-]

@Theyra would sleight of hand be a sort of thieving ability? Feel free to add these:
Crossbow - Precision
Passive Charming - Etiquette and Grace
Gaming - Cards

It could, yeah, but he would not steal, so maybe he should not do that now that I think about it.
