Deneir is a very good choice, and not a deity I often see people choosing for some strange reason.

In terms of distances, although I wouldn’t like to speculate on specific travel times the two are closer than you would think.

@MarraktI'm writing a paladin of Ilmatter, but I was wondering if this is too out of place. The Compassion god has his base followers in icy region but how would this work under Auril's control region?

No, that’s perfectly fine. Ilmater also has the portfolio of endurance, martyrdom and suffering, all of which I think are very thematic for a region locked behind an impassable blizzard and subject to neverending darkness. Not only that but I think that worship of such a god would probably be popular given the conditions they are living with. There are many different ways you could take this. You could have your character preach compassion to a people who have forgotten how to be compassionate in their paranoia and isolation.

Or you could lean into the endurance aspect of things in terms of enduring the conditions and the blizzard and all the problems the region is facing.

It’s a fascinating choice.

@Marrakt so for Background I was wondering if I could do something like mash Sage with Hermit with a flavoring of Criminal. So like start with manacles on my arms, maybe ragged holy vestments and common clothes. Very few gold.

But no features seem to fit all that well, as I'm going for a Cleric who was essentially expunged from the church after discovering something he shouldn't have and framed for a crime of which he did not commit. Possibly sent far north where the prostration of Deneir is not all that popular or to one of the prisons that no doubt lay somewhere in the mountains.

I'm just writing it down on a physical sheet atm cause I find it easier and once I'm done ill post the proper format.

I took Observant as my feat for Variant Human, just a flavorful one. As he is an observant lad. Also one of his traits is when a topic he is familiar with or well learnt in is brought up he talks endlessly and just doesn't shut up.

@Guardian Angel Haruki Yeah, my bad, I completely missed that they were in the book as well as Wild Beyond the Witchlight, carry on :D.

In terms of languages, I'd certainly recommend Dwarven as a good language to take in this area, and I'd also say Reghedjic (spoken by the Reghed barbarians of Icewind Dale). If you wanted to get a bit more exotic with your choice, you could also take Jotun (Giant).

For more inspiration though you could check out this link https://www.oakthorne.net/wiki/index.php/Languages_in_the_North.

Thank you!
I think I'll go with Reghedjic and Jotun (Giant) for the additional two languages. ^_^

I'm not opposed to the idea but I'd need to see what you have in mind before agreeing to it

Will we be starting in one of the Ten-Towns? If so, what is the town's name?

In all likelihood we will start in Bryn Shander.

I will be away for a few days from tomorrow until Tuesday, so there may be a delay in me responding to questions.

If possible, would we like to coordinate the structure of this party? I see we’ve already got a paladin, warlock, and ranger. I was thinking a wizard or cleric. What do yall think?

Name: Liamoira
Race: Harengon
Class: Ranger
Level: 1

Background: Investigator

Personality Traits: *Nothing is more important than life, and I never leave anyone in danger.
*It doesn't matter if the whole world's against me. I'll always do what I think is right.

Ideals: *Sanctuary. I know the forces at work in the world and strive to create islands apart from them.
*Promise. My life is no longer my own. I must fulfill the dream of someone who's gone.

Bonds: *I owe much to my vanished mentor. I seek to continue their work even as I search to find them.
*I use my cunning mind to solve mysteries and find justice for those who've been wronged.

Flaws: *I'm especially superstitious and live life seeking to avoid bad luck, wicked spirits, or the Mists.
*I believe doom follows me and that anyone who gets close to me will face a tragic end.

Following this I’d like more detail on the following:

Appearance:

Personality: Stoic and focused, Liamoira is ready for anything. However, she does have habits based on superstitions and can be a little...too serious at times. Despite her cold exterior, she still cares about the people around her.

Backstory: Once upon a time, Liamoira lived alone in Feywild. Her father abandoned her when she was young, while her mother had disappeared to an unknown fate. While she had no family, she was a part of a group of Harengons that she considered siblings of hers. There were five older siblings and three younger siblings. They were a tight knit group! ...That is until they decided that stealing from travelers was a great idea.

Liamoira disagreed and argued against stealing, but none would listen. And there was good reason: They lived a comfortable life from their crimes. They were even able to find a mansion and live a life there.

Liamoira decided to become an investigator because another investigator caught her and her friends, but did not bring them to face punishment after learning about their circumstances. Liamoira was inspired by this investigator and she followed him. She wanted him to teach her how to be an investigator herself.

So, he did. He also revealed that he knew how to traverse through the mists and brought her out of the Feywild.

During their travels, Liamoira found that she had a way with animals, able to calm them with a soothing word or touch. So, her mentor decided to teach her the ways of being a ranger.

During her travels, both she and her mentor encountered many mysteries and dangers within the mists. The most notable of all was when she and her mentor was in Ravenloft. The both of them recognized a demon, despite his illusion. He was manipulating the townsfolk to his own ends. Of course, the demon noticed and had her mentor arrested.

Liamoira tried to rescue him, but her 'hare-brained' plan didn't work. She tried to kidnap a demon's faithful and most important lackey in an attempt to try and get her mentor back through a hostage exchange. But she was nearly caught in the act. She had to flee and she is now wanted in Ravenloft for the crime of kidnapping.

After that, she made it to the Icewind Dales, the Spine of the World, in the Material Plane. There, she remained for years, growing accustomed to the ice and snow, surviving through the harshest of winters. She also puts her investigation skills to good use, helping those who were wronged.

Liamoira's Character Sheet

@Marrakt I believe my character is ready for your review. ^^"

A backstory involving both Agdon Longscarf and Strahd von Zarovich? Cool!

Are you sure you want her to have been in Icewind Dale for years though? Going years without advancing past level 1 seems a little odd to me.

Thanks!

I imagine her travels took place while she was an inexperienced apprentice. So, when she got to the Icewind Dale and stayed for years, she got her first level in Ranger and became an experienced guide and ranger there. ^^"
